if they said “ i’m happy” on every single track would you still complain? or is it just annoying to you bc they’re expressing sadness?

Just seeing this now but as i said in my post abt the "genre: sadboy" album, them expressing their sadness is not the issue. The issue is that they're flat out saying "i'm sad" and not trying to write anything remotely creative. The entire point of the sadboy thing is expressing real raw emotion, which a lot of people can relate to and understand to an extent. There's complexity to emotions and to the events that sparked them and a good songwriter can express emotion in a variety of ways, using all sorts of expressions, metaphors, similes, etc. I'm not saying all songs have to be deep, but when you're choosing such deep and honestly interesting topics to sing about (such as hardships they've endured, the way they felt in the moment, the way they feel about it now after it all passed) then you have to be able to rise up to a certain level of songwriting
