Don't Recall [Hanzo and Genji Shimada]
➜ Hanzo Shimada x Reader x Genji Shimada
➜ When you confess to Genji and it goes horribly wrong. His older brother is there to pick up the pieces.
➜ Angst, unrequited love, bullying, class indifference, suggestive content. Let me know what I've missed. Maybe two parts...
➜ a/n: I also write for Overwatch 😊 hope you enjoy. Based off the Song Don't Recall by KARD they are an underrated kpop group with Latin inspired music. Please go check them out!
✧ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✦✧✦ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✧
It was Valentines Day, a day where in Japan, girls would give different treats to their crushes or loved ones.
This Valentine's Day, You finally had mustered up the courage to confess to your crush.
Genji Shimada.
Genji was a player, and it was not something that was a secret, many girls had come and go, trying to win over the youngest Shimada male.
You see, the shimada clan was one of the, if not the most powerful clan in Japan. They were not a family you would take lightly.
And you had to have a crush on one of the sons.
Genji and You were pretty close, walking to class sometimes, eating lunch together and going to the arcade afterwards. You considered yourself a close friend to the male.
So today, you held a box full of goodies with your families crest on it, and your heart full of courage, hoping it would go well.
You decided to wait until the last class of the day, seeing Genji sitting in his usual spot with girls on both sides of him chatting him up.
He spots you with a smile, waving you over, "Yo! Y/n!" You wave to him as you walk up to him and place your box infront of him.
He tilts his head before his eyes widened, he quickly went to open the box, seeing different goodies and baked treats that you'd spent hours making with your mother the night before.
"H-holy shit! You made all these for me (n/n)?" He says and you nodded happily.
"Yep! All of them are different foods we-" You get interrupted with a harsh shove to the ground. You land on your back, a pained groan leaving you.
"Tch. Well you gotta wait in line. (L/n) you aren't the only one today."
You looked up and saw Ayaka Watanabe. She was apart of one of the most prominent families in Japan as well, and has had her sights set on the Shimada's for years.
"Besides...Genji didn't you already accept mine already?~" She says, gesturing to the expensively decorated box sitting behind the male.
"W-well...I Mean I can have more than one-"
"You told me you weren't accepting anyone's today!" You said, bringing yourself stand and brushing your uniform off.
Ayaka scoffed, "He probably told you that because he didn't want commoners like you confessing to him. We all know why you reaalllyyuh want Genji." She says, snatching your box from in front of Genji. She started to walk towards you, and you started backing up.
"You just want to raise your status. Tired of being a poor, low class skank who can't get shit." She starts. "You hang around Genji because you know he'll buy you whatever you want and can't afford. Does his dad even know you exist? Do you know his dad will spit at disgusting people like you?"
She backs you up against the classroom door. You look behind her at Genji, hoping he would rescue you from her tirade. But he was looking away.
"Lets be honest. (L/n). Genji was only with you to get one thing." She says with a sadistic smirk, pointing to your skirt.
"And now that he has me. He doesn't need you anymore." You hear the sliding door open and Ayaka takes her chance to push you out the classroom.
She then throws your box behind you.
"Face it Y/n. You're a commoner. Stay one."
The door slams closed, leaving you in the hallway, surrounded by your fellow peers.
Whispers quickly swell in the hallway.
"Oh, I heard she was confessing the Shimada boy today.."
"Isn't he dating Ayaka though?.."
"Yea that was her who shoved her out.."
"Poor her..."
"She should've know better than to fall for a wealthy boy..."
You felt tears well up in your eyes as you slowly stood up, grabbing your box. The treats still in tact but it was horribly bent. You sighed heavily, choking back the sobs that were trying to fight their way through.
You quickly made your way through the hall, ignoring the whispers that circled around you.
You just wanted to make it outside.
You needed to get out.
You felt the tears streaming down your face as you went out the door, you knew that this led to the roof. A quiet place where no one would be at after school ended.
Getting up the stairs, you slowly walked over to the farthest bench and sat down, finally letting your tears flow.
God rejection hurts, but being rejected and embarrassed was like a double-edged sword. You wish he would've just told you he had a girlfriend, but that was your friend, he was a player.
And you should've known better.
You finally allowed your sobs to come out, tear ducts bursting like a dam. You sounded pitiful. After all, you're crying over someone you knew you couldn't have.
It didn't help that your wails masked the footsteps that were coming towards you.
It wasn't until you felt a hand on your shoulder did you nearly jump out your skin.
"(Y/n)-San, are you alright?"
You whipped your head around to see Hanzo, the eldest Shimada brother staring down at you. He had worry plastered all over his face, not a rare expression for you.
Hanzo and you had some Archery classes together, his father and your mother apparently were classmates in school. So sometimes after lessons they would talk leaving you and Hanzo together.
He was the more serious out of him and his brother.
You wiped your face and sighed as the male sat beside you.
"Yea..just..upset..I made this and have no one to give it to..." You say gesturing to the box, deciding to hide the truth in a lie.
Hanzo takes it into his lap.
"I understand. I have no one to spend Valentines Day with. Girls all flock to my brother, or are too afraid to speak to me." Hanzo says sadly, opening the box. He then turns to you as If asking 'May I?' You giggle softly and nod to him.
You watch as he chooses a bon bon and plops it in his mouth. You then see his eyes light up with wonder. "This is amazing! Did you make these yourself?!" He asks in amazement and you nod.
"Mhm, I sure did. I spent a whole day with my mother making them.." You smiled as you watch him try many treats from the box.
"I must request you to make some for me.."
"Well I can show you..." You suggest and he stands up quickly.
"Well it seems we are both free today, so you must show me today!" Hanzo says proudly and you stumble over your words as he pulls you up.
"B-but-" "No buts! I must know the secrets of these delicious candies!"
He then grabs your hand and flashes a quick soft smile.
"Besides, we can keep each other company on this Valentines day."
✧ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✦✧✦ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✧
You sat nervously outside as you heard Hanzo inside talking to his mother and father. You knew the two of them were strict on who Hanzo could hang around but not Genji, which explains why you heard Ayaka inside with the male. He must've brought her over to Introduce her...
Your heart pangs but you shake your head. You have your own activities planned.
You once again got spooked by Hanzo peeping his head out and gesturing for you to come in.
Quickly following him, you looked around at the grand expanse of his home. The Shimada's were incredibly rich, so you should've known it was gonna be huge.
Hanzo guides you to a room where a man and a woman were both sat, talking amongst themselves.
Hanzo cleared his throat to get their attention. "Mother, Father. This is-"
"(Y/n) (L/n), I know her from your archery classes." His father spoke. You immediately bowed to the male. You heard him chuckle before speaking once more.
"Rise up, (Y/n), no need for formalities."
You sit up straight, ears burning from embarrassment.
"Go ahead you two, spend all the time you need in the kitchen, but just come back when you are finished."
You both nodded and were about to head off until his fathers booming voice cut throught again.
"Hanzo."
Hanzo turned to see his father handing him a card.
"Take Miss (Y/n) somewhere nice."
✧ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✦✧✦ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✧
"Where Hanzo, Mom?"
Genji asks, walking in after a long trip to the arcade. He glanced at the clock seeing it read 9:00pm. School got out around 3, and his practice ended at 5.
"Oh, he's out with a friend. He should be coming in soon."
Genji scoffs "Him going out? With who? Who wants to go out with the stick in the mud?"
"And that's when my mom came in and saw that I was covered in chocolate!"
"Oh? I knew she was upset with you.."
"Oh definitely!"
Genji watched as his brother walked in Hand and Hand with Y/n. His best friend.
On Valentines Day.
He was frozen when the two walked by, Y/n just giving him a wave and a smile while his brother gave a smirk.
"Lets go to my room until you'd like to go, I want to know more about you."
"Of course! I want to know more about you too!"
"W-wait!" Genji managed to get out, going up to catch up with them.
"Are you guys a thing now?" He asked, and the two of them looked at each other, then looked at him.
Hanzo chuckled looking at his younger brother, "maybe, we are just seeing where this goes. Y/n is a wonderful girl."
Genji rolled his eyes, "Mhm. Well I hope you know Y/n is MY best friend! So you better not hurt her."
"Genji!"
Hanzo laughs at his brother, "oh I won't brother dear..after all." He steps towards his brother with that same annoying smirk.
"You already did that for me..."
Genji's eyes widened as Hanzo pulls Y/n away continuing his conversation with her.
Leaving Genji to think about how he had lost his best friend to his brother, and how it was all his fault.
And how he couldn't allow this to happen.
Not at all.

throwing thoughts to the wall here. I've been pondering a lot about Beatrice's gown specifically in that Outside of the meta world it seems to also represent Kinzo's very specific ideas of who/what Beatrice is. spoilers for the entirety of Umineko below the cut:
for one, I'm pretty sure it has the Ushiromiya one winged eagle on it ? which implies that Beatrice Castiglioni didn't own it originally. maybe it was tailored and made for her, or maybe she never even saw it in her lifetime. but regardless it is supposed to represent her, despite the fact that she met Kinzo in very simplistic clothing that does not bear Any similarities with the expensive and intricately embroidered fabric of the gown. a human woman has been raised to the level of The Golden Witch and thus is clothed accordingly
this grows more obvious with Kuwadorian Beatrice, who was raised and isolated to fill the role of her mother. she was given Beatrice's name and told all her life she was a reincarnation, and the dress was to honour the woman in question. but again, Kinzo has made her wear that gown. his view of Castiglioni, as an impossibly powerful witch who brought him back to life, defines his daughter's life and never challenged. ergo becoming the one surviving account of what Castiglioni was like. she wears that heavy, warm and ridiculously fancy gown on a regular basis—after all, Rosa didn't find her on a particularly special day. the ruffles on the skirt resemble the curtains of a stage; Beatrice is made to act as an exaggerated memory of her own mother.
then, there's Sayo. in her interpretation of Beatrice she already had an outfit—one that she wears when she's acting as her on the gameboard. one that she probably bought/arranged herself and takes great joy in wearing. however, when she solves the epitaph, her self expression is tainted and written over. like before, Sayo is made to wear the dress her mother wore. for what ? for Kinzo ! Genji, Kumasawa, and Nanjo made her wear that dress, the dress that contains Kinzo's warped perception of Castiglioni, just so Kinzo's redemption can come to fruition !
all they thought about was Kinzo and HIS guilt and HIS redemption and HIS sins and HIM and HIM and HIM. and they never took Sayo into account beyond how she would be Kinzo's successor, how to fit her into the gown and wig, how she could give Kinzo peace of mind in his final moments. and NO ONE, during the long process of getting her into the layers of this dress, putting the wig on her, making her wear blue contacts to emphasise this faint resemblance, EVER thought about how learning about her heritage might negatively affect Sayo.
I think it says something that she doesn't seem to wear this gown ever again on the gameboard. Sayo spent the years after what had been done to her picking her autonomy back up by any means necessary, so of course she goes for the outfit she chose herself, instead of the physical embodiment of the role she was pressured to play in.
#umineko#meta#<- it's part analysis part fanfic if I'm being honest#beatrice the golden witch#umineko spoilers#this all started because I started thinking 'haha it's kinda like the rose bride dress in Utena'#and then I spent the next five months trying to make the resulting thoughts comprehensible#maybe I'll be able to say more once I do a proper reread. if you have additional thoughts then please say so

So, I started watching Hell's Paradise..
IT'S. SO. FREAKING. GOOD!!! ( Ramble under the cut! Spoilers and possible grammar mistakes ahead!!! )
I'm only on, like, episode seven, but I'm really enjoying myself!!!
Starting off with my boy, my man, my loverboy nonchalant Gabimaru!! His design immediately drew me in the first episode and I find his writing very good so far. A man, who was grown and groomed into being this emotionless killing machine only to dream of going completely against that all because of his love for his wife? SIGN ME UP!! I love how conflicted he is and how much those conflictions are weighing on him. How, because of how he was raised and what has happened to him, he's been treading this line and constantly tipping over the edge of "I'm a heartless, empty killer who's only purpose is to kill" and "I want to live a peaceful, normal life with the one I love/I don't want to kill anymore". The symbolism, how his character's portrayed, those small moments of vulnerability that shows how he differs from your typical cold killer and is actually just this morally broken guy who was raised/influenced by an actual monster; the head chief. ( Who, by the way, is literal nightmare fuel. I don't usually get creeped out easily by stuff in anime's, but the way Mappa went about drawing him is just..terrifying.. )
OH, AND HIS FIGHTING IS MMMM SO ADDICTING TO WATCH!! >.<
Next up is Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, or Sagiri for short. I want to first off get it out of the way by say that she's drop dead gorgeous. Imean, look at her!! No seriously, look-
As someone who absolutely adores strong female characters, it was no surprise that I fell in love with her! She reminds me a lot of Yona as she goes against what the norm was at the time and decided to become a swordsman despite everyone telling her she's better suited as a wife and mother simply because of the fact that she's a woman. ( Which irked me every. single. time. it was brought up btw ) I love how the author is going about her and how she struggles because she feels guilt for even the most evil of people simply because she's an empath--something that is often considered a womanly trait in the eyes of the people, especially men, of that time--but doesn't go too far with it and make her seem weak and useless because of those struggles. I like that, even though she hesitates and sometimes gets help from others ( mostly from Gabi from what I've seen so far ), she gets the job done and doesn't sit there and call for help like some damsel in distress and actually uses her strength!!
My love for her was explained pretty simply in episode six when Genji pointed out how she has the talent to be able to flip flop between being dominant and powerful like a man, but still holds the sense of gentleness and care one would only find in the heart of a woman. I love that quality about her in the same sense I love Mitsuri Kanroji's quality of being able to be cheery, feminine, and delicate despite being involved in such a 'manly' and grizzly job that being a demon slayer is.. AHHH IDK HOW TO EXPLAIN IT ANY FURTHER, I JUST HOPE YOU GET WHAT I MEAN!!
Next up is the vixen, Yuzuriha of Keishu. I haven't seen much of her yet, but I love her design and overall appeal. Although, she puts up this front of being this carefree, seductive airhead, you can tell there's just so much more to her and can't wait to see it. ( Although I feel like when she does show her true colors, it'll be when she finally betrays Gabimaru and Sagiri like she implied she would.. )
( Also this little stunt she pulled in this clip had me in a chokehold for a hot minute. Like MMMMM LOVE IT WHEN HOT WOMEN DO HOT WOMEN THINGS!! )
Toma and Chbei are next up! When I first saw Chōbei, of course my mind immediately went to, "Oh shit, it's bakugo!" lmao- His fighting style is cool and his backstory is heartbreaking. Past that though, I'm undecided whether I like him or not..
Like, his backstory was tragic and had me feeling bad as a sad backstory would. It was also amazing in the sense that it gave me more understanding on why he became the way he did and how his mentality was shaped because of it. I find it cool that he has a knack of adapting to any situation too! ..And that's also why I'm so conflicted when it comes to him..
That leads me to bring up Toma, who I immediately fell in love with as soon as I saw his character design. ( I have a thing for men/boys with long hair, mkay? Don't judge me.. ) I haven't really wrapped my head around his character yet ( like his brother ) but it's obviously that he sorta idolizes Chōbei, so much to the point that he didn't hold any gripes towards him when he thought he was going to leave him for dead--which is my main dislike about Chōbei right now.
But yeah, if I had the chance, I'd still date them no questions asked- *smack*
I find Gantetsusai and Fuchi funny and cute together and overall find a good so far. I especially like Fuchi. He's a quirky little guy 😚
( And this height difference kills me. Like LOOK AT HOW LITTLE FUCHI ISSS )
And finally, we have Nurugai and Tenza, who is ranking up to be my 2nd favorite pair in this entire show! Putting aside that Nurugai literally evokes my gender envy, I love her and Tenza both individually and together! I love Tenza's kind soul, how he scouted out Nurugai because he wanted to help her after finding out why she was sentenced to death row! I find it such a highlight of his character and it makes me love the contrast between his brighter self when compared to Nurugai, who's more gloomy and has been traumatized into adapting this matured mindset.
Bonus points for being the only two to not immediately get into it with each other when on the island as well! It really was a breath of fresh air! Oh, an extra points for making me smile like an idiot- 🥰
So far I'm in love with this show! Idk yet where it falls on my anime rankings, but it's definitely high enough up there to spur me to write a drabble or five about this show! Can't wait to watch more in my spar time!!

Okay, so if you feel comfortable! Can you write am AU (Genji never was murdered) where Hanzo marries fem!reader in an arranged married due to their families status? And when they're finally alone, reader just goes straight to the point and asks when he'd like to produce their heir.
Maybe reader seems a little unapproachable because she's covered in diamonds and jewelry due to their wedding and she has a more carefree personality!
Just fluff and a little funny story!
It's almost 2am as I upload this, let's not talk about my dwindling sleep schedule coming back. ANYWAY, I enjoyed writing this and I hopefully you enjoy reading!
Hanzo x Fem!Reader
Word count: 1514
You knew it was happening, you knew for years what was going to happen, and everything inside of you despised it. Your parents drove it into you each day, ‘nurturing’ you into the perfect wife.
“You have to be proper!”
“You have to wear make-up like this.”
“Ladies don’t do that!”
“Stop slouching! Straight back and head high!”
Each and every day.
It tired you out, it wasn’t what you had in mind for your life and marrying one of the Shimada brothers was certainly not on the list.
You knew of their history, what they had done, who they were, and the thoughts alone would always send a chill down your spine. Your destiny was set in stone, there was no way out of it no matter how much you protested. If that’s how it was to be, then you were going to have some fun regardless of what’s in store.
Disobeying your father was one task you had done countless times. Sneaking out at night to party, or even to watch the starts on the beach front. Anything to take your mind off of the days coming. The one day you had dreaded for months. It was approaching, and quickly.
You hadn’t even met your future husband, only word of mouth got you the information you wanted. A few pictures here and there but you hadn’t actually been face-to-face with him, only a name, Hanzo Shimada. No matter the begging and pleading to see him before the wedding, you were always met with a resounding “no.”. It irked you, and part of you wanted to leave to go find the man you were going to marry.
“You will see him a few days before the big day.” Your mother said.
All you could do was groan and leave the room, heading upstairs and flopping down onto your bed, releasing a scream into your pillow.
Being kept in the dark like this was annoying but there was nothing that you could do about it, except hope that your husband wasn’t a total asshole.
—
As time passed, your routines got more severe, more demanding. Practising walking, dress fitting, how to be a proper wife.
It was borderline torture, or at least it felt like it. You were too tired to even think straight, but eventually the day arrived where you were to meet your future husband.
It’s like your mind woke up, finally awake from the tiredness of the routines. Your parents were almost shocked at you when you rushed into the car. Finally! The moment of truth! Your heart was racing as the car started, pulling out of the driveway and going deeper into Hanamura.
You were like a kid at Christmas, giddy to the point of throwing up.
“Will you calm down?” Your mother spoke out from the front seat of the car, head turning slightly.
“Sorry!” You weren’t, and you were pretty sure your mother knew too as a small smile crept onto her face before she turned back around.
There was the slight anxiety coursing through your body as the car approached the Shimada castle, hands shaking in your lap. The season was perfect, cherry blossoms falling in the slight breeze, clouds littered the sky but weren’t threatening rain, and with the Shimada castle behind the trees, it was practically picture perfect.
As the car slowed down, a group of men approached, dressed in all black suits. Intimidating was the first word that popped into your head, and despite their small smiles, it didn’t change that first opinion.
“Behave, [y/n].” Your fathers voice was stern as he turned to look at you, eyes glaring deep into your own. You nodded quickly as the car door opened and a hand offered to help you out.
Hesitantly, you took the hand, getting out of the car and facing the man in front of you.
“[y/n]. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.” He spoke out, a small smile on his face as he looked you up and down. “I have heard a lot about you.”
“Likewise.” Was all you could muster. You had seen the photos of him but by god was he a lot more handsome in person. “It is nice to meet you also, Hanzo.”
“Come, allow me to show you around.” With his hand still in yours, he pulled you along gently and you followed beside him.
His hair was done up, slicked and black, golden silk ribbon draping over his back, bouncing slightly as he walked, talking to you as if he had known you for years. His stride was confident, strong arms by his side except for the one holding onto you. The short kimono shirt of his hung loose on his shoulders, yet his muscles were still prominent behind the fabric. Every part of him was screaming at you to touch him, yet you refrained. It was your first meeting. In the next three days were you to marry him.
“I would introduce you to my brother, however, he is currently running errands.”
You snapped out of your thoughts, looking at him, cheeks flushed warm. ”I’m sure I’ll meet him soon.”
He chuckled in response to your expression. “You haven’t been listening to anything I have been saying, have you?”
“That obvious?” You look away, the embarrassment rising.
“Yes, but it is cute, seeing you blushed like this.” His hand came up and gently caressed your cheek as he turned you to face him.
Your breath caught in your throat as you locked eyes with him, the anxiety of marrying this man had disappeared, and in fact, you were looking forward to it.
“There is still so much to show you.” His smile was warm as his hand left your cheek. The pair of you continued to walk around the building, talking as if you were old friends, while the adults, your parents and his, were talking in another room. Talking about your wedding day.
And it came quicker than you had expected. It felt like you were in a daze for most of the day until the final few hours when the party was coming to an end. You had yet to meet his brother, but your attention quickly shifted back to your now husband. His eyes were on you, watching you for a few minutes, admiring your beauty. His hand held your thigh under the table, giving a it gentle squeeze.
A playful smile embraced your cheeks as you looked at him before looking back around the room. You had realised a while back that other family members hesitated to approach you. Maybe the Shimada you had married was intimidating to everyone else until Hanzo whispered into your ear.
“Don’t worry about them. You look beautiful.” His breath was hot against your ear, sending a chill over your body. “It’s all this jewellery.”
“That… That would be my mothers doing.” You whisper back to him.
He nods in response. “A little overboard, I won’t deny that, but-”
“Please, I’m glad I’m not the only one to think that.” You laugh quietly and Hanzo joins you, small creases at the corners of his eyes. Oh how you could look into them all day…
“But-” He continued, “I still find you the most exquisite thing in the room.”
You could feel the heat rising inside of you, cheeks flushing hot as you look at the man who only chuckles in response.
“Let’s leave, shall we?” He offers a hand as he stands up to which you take, standing beside him. A few members of the party whistle towards you and Hanzo as you walk away and out of the room, the music slowly quieting down as he leads you to the car that had been waiting outside.
His hand never left yours even as you reached the hotel, his grip only tightening as you reached the elevator. The moment the doors closed behind you, his hands were all over you, pulling you close to him and kissing you passionately. His lips were soft against yours, hair tickling you as your hands tangled in his hair, pulling out the silk ribbon and letting his hair rest on his shoulders.
As you pull away, gasping for air, you speak out. “I suppose this is when we make our heir, huh?”
Hanzo laughs, shoulders rising and falling as he does, a faint blush on his cheeks. “You’re funny.”
You smile at him, pulling him down to kiss him once more before the doors open. His hands pull you up, carrying you as he walks down the hallway.
“Lets have some fun first…” His voice was low in your ear as he fumbled with the keycard to the room. He kissed you again, lips locking to yours as the door opened. He stepped into the room with you still in his arms. “We have all night…” He kicked the door shut, not breaking any contact. Soft gasps and giggles were barely audible from behind the door, slowly leaving earshot.
Perhaps my parents won’t mind waiting a little longer…

You said once that Heian is a story rich with Tale of Genji intertextuality as it is Tsukihime intertextuality. From someone who hasn't read it, what other instances of this in action can you expand upon?
I might been missing a few pieces since it's been a couple years since I read Heian and a few years more for The Tale of Genji, but these are the parallels that stood out to me.
1/
I guess I should start by explaining what I meant in my previous post. So, The Tale of Genji is a heavy long-runner series covering from the circumstances behind Hikaru Genji's birth to the major events of his son's life after his death. And the major early chapters of Hikaru's life are about him courting many different women in an attempt to ultimately choose his wife.
You probably know that Hikaru Genji is a controversial figure. This is true in the story, to the people of the time, and even more so to the people of our time. And the main source of Genji's discourse is his arguably main wife, Murasaki no Ue. What's important to understand about Hikaru is that despite his divisiveness, Murasaki Shikibu's narrative voice always described him as the perfect man. That character is her ideal no matter how much the characters and readers disagree. And the first chapter, the one before Hikaru's birth, establishes that he is the perfect man because his mother Kiritsubo no Koi was the perfect woman. Lady Kiritsubo dies between the first two chapters and that's when Hikaru's quest for a wife begins.
One of the relatively early wife-candidates-of-the-week is Fujitsubo. Her gimmick is straight-up samefaceing. Fujitsubo is the perfect woman because she's somehow a palette-swapped second coming of Kiritsubo. Hikaru obviously wants her but his father obviously also wants her because she's Lady Kiritsubo 2, and it's the dad who gets her because he's the emperor while Hikaru is an illegitimate prince not in line for the throne. With their social status preventing a real relationship, the 18-year-old Hikaru Genji started his relationship with Fujitsubo's 10-year-old niece Murasaki, in whom he saw the budding image of a future new Fujitsubo (Kiritsubo 3?).
Tsuna's backstory in FGO Heian is pretty much all built on references to this character trio. Tsuna came across a woman described word-for-word as "beautiful enough to be taken as the Emperor's wife" and instantly fell in love with her but couldn't actualize this love due to social class differences. Later Tsuna meets Ibaraki, recognizes the woman's face on the younger girl, and is nice to her because he likes seeing "that face" happy. Tsuna's and Ibaraki's relationship can be interpreted as a non-romantic version of The Tale of Genji's main couple, but I can't shake off the grooming undertones that come from its inspiration, and even if I could, the idea of Ibaraki being used as a proxy for her mother is still creepy regardless.
2/
One important thing about The Tale of Genji is that it's the oldest novel we know of, so its earliest chapters were instrumental in popularizing novels as a format. For context, The Tale of Genji had a periodic release format, with each chapter being published as its own separate scrolls, so later chapters were published after the public had read the previous ones and their social impact was already tangible to the author.
One of the most memorable sections of The Tale of Genji (meaning more memorable to me specifically than generally notorious) comes in one of the middle chapters, I'll guess around chapter 25. In this scene, Hikaru Genji catches his wife Murasaki reading a novel. Hikaru parrots the time's popular opinion Genji-spawned novel trend: that prose is literature for dumb people and that only poetry has real value. Murasaki, as the character with the author's name would, verbally tears him apart with a big speech explaining what prose can do that poetry can't and how this new form of literature has just as much potential and value as the poetry classics.
In one of the first chapters when Kintoki's party is crashing at Murasaki's house, there's a similar conversation, where Kintoki tells Murasaki (author) about the things that a writer can do that a warrior like him can't, raising many similar points to Murasaki (character).
3/
Nagiko got a short section giving out her Tale of Genji opinions. It's mostly a repeat of her comments at her debut event's epilogue, but it is there. The whole motivation for her boss fight is that she loves the books' cheery and vibrant depictions of romance despite Hikaru being an unbearable character (based and correct).
Could be related to Hikaru Genji having too many love interests, in contrast to Sei Shounagon's very "one and only" views of romance.
4/
Speaking of a character's whole motivation in the plot, let's talk about Murasaki's. She's a funny character that gets a lot funnier with full context. The Heian Singularity/Lostbelt is set in a time when Murasaki Shikibu had already published many chapters of The Tale of Genji and caused a major cultural phenomenon. The whole capital was crazy to know what would happen next and this pressure gave her immense writer's block. So she fought in the Holy Grail War, risking her life for a chance to wish for the perfect conclusion to Hikaru Genji's story. She lost but Babbage gave her new motivation to write with her own hands the perfect conclusion that her perfect man deserves.
So? What's the conclusion Murasaki writes for Hikaru without any magical interference? You see, The Tale of Genji in its final form is comprised of 55 scrolls, each released separately as one chapter. The 42nd of these scrolls is Hikaru's death chapter. After 41 chapters deriving world-changing popularity, how did the genius Murasaki Shikibu close his story? With boldness and commitment to the bit. See, to Murasaki's authorial voice, Hikaru Genji is too hot and perfect. So hot and perfect that his death is too monumental of a tragedy to be possibly put into words. Thus, Murasaki published an entirely blank scroll and in the next one, Hikaru Genji was inexplicably dead.
Hikaru's death is my favorite thing about the Tale of Genji, not only for getting rid of the worst boy but mainly for the narrative power move that is still as insane writing for today's standards as it was back when it was published in the first novel ever. But this moment of genius is also a perfect thing to turn into a writer's block joke. Easily one of my best contenders for Sakurai's funniest joke.

IBA - INSPIRED BY ART
(HANZO X FEM!YOU)
I Care About Him
(IBA from: @azu21 - Thank you darling for the idea, I hope you like it! ~)
Summary:You're a new agent of overwatch, it has been good five months since you arrived, picked by finger by the only ones Jack Morrison and Vivian Soujourn. With the time, you notice a man that is always walking with Genji, but far away from him... He was lonely and quite. It bothers you, you knew something.
(artist: couldn't find it, sorry :-:)
*Ana Amari is sitting in her desk in her room, reading some old papers about the null sector and Talon, she heard a knock, without taking her attention, she said... *
Ana- Come in...
You *slowly open* Ana...? Are you busy?
Ana- *Look at you and smile* Hi, darling, how are you? Come! Tak a sit, I'm just reading some old files.
You - Okay... *go to her desk sitting in front of her* I want to ask you about this man... The one who always walk with Genji.
Ana- Hanzo? *chuckles* Why you don't talk to him?
You- I want to, you know that I want to know everyone better in overwatch...
Ana- But?
You- He seems... Not really social...?
Ana- *sighs* He pass through hard times. He's a gentle man, smart and talented, but... Is very hard for him to get together with the rest.
You - Is that because of something?
Ana- You know why Genji is half robot?
You- No...
Ana- Hanzo was forced to do that with him, manipulated. They're brothers, y/n.
You- Wha...?! *suprised* He...! He did that with his own brother?!
Ana- Forced to. Genji forgive him, but Hanzo still needs to forgive himself. Imagine, have to grown up only obeying, no mother and no childhood, only to be the next Shimada's leader, have your own father murdered and later, be forced to kill your own brother. Genji told us his story, we embrace Hanzo here to he understand that he can be forgive.
You- Oh... That's why he is always with Genji.
Ana- He is a broken man, y/n, we can't imagine his pain and still lives on the past. You should try to talk to him.
You- Something about him makes me care about... I... Feel something so sad about him.
Ana- *chuckles* You really have the gift, don't you?
*Later in the corridor, you were walking to find Jack about the new mission that would be in a few weeks. You spot Hanzo coming in your direction in small steps while reading something in a digital tablet, he pass by you and you turn around*
You- Hi, Hanzo!
Hanzo- Hm? *He turned surprised* Oh, hello... Can I help you?
You- Just want to ask how are you doing *smirk*
Hanzo- I'm good... Thank you *he seems a little confused* You... Are the new agent, right?
You- Yeah, it's me. By the way, have you seen Jack somewhere? I can't find him, i need to ask something about the mission.
Hanzo- I can try to help you...
You- He didn't told me with who I'm going to be with, my duo.
Hanzo- Ah... It's actually me.
You- What? Really? *chuckles* Lucky me! ~ thanks! See you later! *you turn around walking away*
Hanzo- Lucky...? *smirk*
Genji- Brother! *appears at the corridor walking in his direction* Do you know you're duo?
Hanzo- Yes, I just talk to her, actually.
Genji- Heeer... ~ Hmmm hehehe! *Give him a slap on his arm* I know who is it!
Hanzo- *smile* You check the files again, don't you?
Genji- No, Ana told me earlier. Didn't need to. So! Y/n, right?
Hanzo- Yes.
Genji- You lucky bastard! *laughs* She's the nicest.
Hanzo- She looks to young...
Genji- What?
Hanzo- I don't know if I can get along with such a young girl.
Genji- Young... How young you think she's?
Hanzo- Like... 17?
Genji- *laughs* She have my age!
Hanzo- What?! She looks so... 16 or 17.
Genji- Don't be nervous in stay around her, she's nice, smart, mature... Pretty and sexy...
Hanzo- *sighs*... Genji, I'm not going to date anyone. Or fall in love.
Genji- You suck.
*At the reunion room*
Jack- *walking in front of a huge screen* Everybody read the file, I believe. We detect a signal not far away, from Null Sector, is coming from the north, we believe that they may having a hidden base somewhere, we'll let 5 duos in the territory to find where this signal is coming from. The rest of us will be in touch far and near...
Soujourn - Is not the first time that we detect this signal from the north... We need to act now and figure it out.
Cass- Captain, today I have a mission with the Shimada's bros here in five hours, is there any update?
Soujourn- It will be sent it to your system's in a few minutes.
Hanzo- It has being sent it... *reading the file on the tablet*
Soujourn- Well... I would like to send y/n together for her abilities to this mission, but we need you for this one Cassidy.
Cass- No problem, ma'am *smirk* So the Hashimotos are making a mess in Kanezaka again.
Genji- Kiriko and tracer is there has being two weeks, we need to act.
Hanzo- The updates are not good... Captain, by any chance, can we go earlier?
Soujourn- Yes, any time. The ship is ready.
*outside the room, after the reunion, you walk to Hanzo talking to Cassidy about the mission. Cassidy notice you coming and finish his conversation with Hanzo walking away*
You- Hey, partner.
Hanzo- *he turns and smirk* Hello.
You- I came to wish you lucky *Give him little taps on his arm* I'll be waiting for you! Hope we can get along easily ~
Hanzo- Yes, me too *smiles and hear someone calling* Oh, I have to go! It was great to meet you! *he walk fast going to the ship*
You- *take deep breath* Why I'm so worry?
Ana- You two make a great duo~
You- *little jumpscare* Jesus, Ana...great duo? Really? *smile*
Ana- Yes, I mean in many ways... Romantically...
You- *blush* Ana! I barely know this man!
Ana- I know what I'm saying *chuckles* I know you both very well~ *walk away laughing*
*in the ship*
Hanzo- *looking at the updates again*...
Cass- Hey, partner... *Look at him reading* You're a really systematic with missions, aren't ya?
Hanzo- I'm worry about Kiriko and her mother... I hope both are safe.
Cass- Doesn't she hates you?
Hanzo- *Look at him* Who? Kiriko? *sighs* Yes, but... I don't hate her, she's my sister.
Cass- He got some big family issues... *whispers* Well! I've heard from a sparrow that you're in a duo with my sweet pumpkin y/n.
Hanzo- Sweet... Pumpkin? You're dating her?
Cass- Nope, but I wish! *laughs* You're lucky.
Hanzo- *laughs* Is she that amazing?
Cass- The sparrow said that you'll not fall in love, never. She'll make you change your mind. She's cute, sexy, funny, everything good in one woman. Do you have any type of woman, archer?
Hanzo- *chuckles feeling shy* N-no, I do not... I... I'm focusing on the mission, actually.
Cass- No type of woman? *chuckles* Come on, big man! You're handsome and smart! Women loooves that! You should try to live again this type of things.
Genji- PS; He's a virgin.
Jack- *holding laugh* Oh fuck...!
Hanzo- *take a deep breath closing his eyes* So... This is the sparrow.
Cass- *Still looking at him* How the fuck is this man virgin?! *Look at Genji* I though he had a lot of women!
Hanzo- *hide his face behind the tablet*...!! No! I did not had a single woman...! And it's ok! *take a deep breath blushing* There's nothing wrong in be virgen.
Cass-... *go back to Hanzo* So you... Play?
Hanzo- What?
Genji - HAHAA!
Jack- Leave the man alone, Cassidy! *laughing*
Cass- I have to know! He's weird! So... Hanzo... Do you like...? *make movements of masturbation*
Hanzo- *blushing* Ca...! Can you stop?!!
Cass- Yes or no!
Hanzo- I won't answer! This is absur...!
Cass- YES OR NO 3 2 1!
Hanzo- YES OF COURSE!
Genji- HAHAA HAHAHA...!!! *Inhales* I'm dying!!
Hanzo- Shut up, Genji!
Cass- Everybody does, Hanzo, you dumb *slap his head laughing* This is ain't a tabu anymore or a dirty secret. Y/n will be your first.
Hanzo- Can't you stop?! *super shy~ super shy~*
*a week later, they came back*
You- *find Reinhardt* Rein!
Rein- *hold a mug of coffee and smile* Oh! Haha! Hello, my friend!
You- They came back from the mission, right? Hanzo, Cassidy...
Rein- Yes! I only saw Hanzo going to the infirmary, all hurt! The doctors are not here today, but he said that he knows what to do.
You- He's hurt? I'll check him! Thanks!
*Getting into the infirmary, you saw Hanzo bandaging himself in the middle of the room, his top body of full naked and you could notice his wounds o his back, arms and face. He notices you and look over his shoulder*
Hanzo- Oh, hello *he turns to you finishing to bandage his arm* Something happened?
You- *look at him up and down worried* I should be asking you that...
Hanzo- Ah this? *he chuckles looking at his bruises* I had to fight with the gang, Kiriko was... *he realizes you ere worried with him, making him confused* I...I had to beat up some bad guys, that's all.
You- I guess they beat you up back *you walk to him holding the bandage on his hands* Let me help you.
Hanzo- But I win...! *you turn him back to look at the bruises on his back, but he felt a awful pain in the ribs, but didn't let you notice* I...won, i'm ok.
You- Yeah, but still got bruises and did you break something? It seems like you can't keep your back straight *starts to touch his torso trying to find something, but when you press both side of the ribs...*
Hanzo- ARGH...! *he hold your hands* Sorry...! *he let it go*
You- How many ribs?
Hanzo- Maybe...three? *laugh nervously* You don't need to worry, I'm...! *you go find something like a pain ointment* I...what are you doing?
You- Got it *you go back to him with a cream* You should lie down.
Hanzo- Actually, I prefer like that... *you start to carefully put the cream in the hematomes and ribs area* ... you got soft hands for that.
You- I don't want you to feel more pain. *sighs still worried*
Hanzo- You barely know me, why helping?
you- First, you're my partner now, second, you're hurt. Aren't we friends?
Hanzo- Friends...? *he smirk* I guess we are.
*you bandage all his torso and stand in front of him looking at his face bruises*
You- They are mean in hurt such a pretty face... *you hold it getting in your tip toes*
Hanzo- *blush noticing how close you were* It's not hurting anymore...
You- Can you try to sit down? *you make a puppy face*
Hanzo- Why she wants to take care of me so bad...?
*he sigh and pick up a chair having difficult to sit under the ribs pain, but he do it for you. You stand pretty close, between his legs, what makes him completly nervous and shy, you make him look up to you while you also pass some pain cream on the hematomas*
Hanzo- *swallow dry looking away*
You- Is something hurting in your face? Nose? apple cheek? Something?
Hanzo- Just the cut in mu lips... *he said shyly*
You- Oh, didn't notice that... let me see. *you gently hold his face looking at the cut* Is not that bad.
Hanzo- So awkward... but I can't lie, is good to be taken care of by someone like her.
You- Maybe... *she step away getting a clean cloth and going to the sink soaking a little bit* Just a cleaning... *you go back to him, holding his face with one hand and the other cleaning the wound*
Hanzo- *his eyes get stucked in you for a while* Are you a nurse?
You- *laughs* No, I'm not...why?
Hanzo- *smile* Wanna be my nurse?
You- *look at him in surprise and laugh shyly* What? Why's that?
Hanzo- I don't really trust someone to take care of my wounds... but, you're good.
You- You like my profissionalism?
Hanzo- Yes, I do *chuckles* Should've know her before...
You- What is he doing? *you hold a smile* He keep looking at me...
Hanzo- Ah... I've heard that Cassidy calls you "pumpkin"...do you have something with him?
You- *chuckles* No, we don't... he may feel something, but he's like a big brother to me.
Hanzo- Right...*smirk* Aaah...As a partner, wanna drink something later?
You- Not before you heal *gave him little taps on his cheek and wawlking away*
Hanzo- Not alcohol...maybe a coffee.
You- *smirk and looking at him* Well...but you have to lie down.
Hanzo- Whatever my nurse says, I'll do it *smile*
You- Stop~ *you laugh shyly putting the cloth in the sink* Wanna help to stand up?
Hanzo- Yes, please.
*You go to him letting him put his arm under your shoulders, you wrap one arm around his torso trying not to touch the ribs area and he gets up in pain*
Hanzo- Aw...! *he growls feeling a strong twinge lefting all his weight on you*
You- Oh shit...! Wait! *You felt your legs failing* You're heavy! *Start to push him with you to the infirmary stretcher* Ok! Try to support yourself here!
Hanzo- I'm so sorry…! Oh…! *He lose his balance and tries not to make you fall to the ground, so he pull you aside let you fell in the stretcher while he was on top with his hands supported on the stretcher looking straight to your face in shook* So sorry! *he blush*
You- *suprised* Well...I didn't fell to the ground, thanks... *blush*
Soujourn- Hanzo, are you go...*she enters the infermary seeing the awkward scene* Ok...what the hell is happening? *she hold her smile*
Hanzo- Vivian! I...! *tries to get up but feels the pain* Dammit!
You- Captain! Can you help me with him, please? He got some broken ribs.
Soujourn- Ok *chuckles picking up Hanzo and he sat on the stretcher* You don't need to make a excuse for the situation, y/n.
You- Wha..? No! No no no! *laughs nervously* It was a accident!
Soujourn- Haha! Accident? Pretty soap opera scene to be a accident! *chuckles* No need to hide...everyone knows already.
Hanzo and you- What?
Soujourn- What what? *smirk* You two have a...connection. Specially Hanzo! Genji told everyone that you always looked at y/n.
You- He wha...? *blush and look at him*
Hanzo- I...! I-I! No! *lauhging nervously* Is not like that! I ju-just...!
Soujourn- And he said that you're a awful liar. *cross her arms and smile, he shut up looking to the ground completly blush* I'm just saying this to let you guys know that we let those thingd happen between co-workers. Love is never a fault, there's no need to hide from us.
You- Bu-but...*swallow dry* Yeah...ok. *look away*
Soujourn- Hanzo, I need you to rest and heal your ribs, I'll let y/n supervise you *wink and smile stepping out of the room*
*A awkward silence*
You-... *take a deep breath* So...
Hanzo- I'm sorry.
You- For what?
Hanzo- Look at you like a damn stalker... *hide his face on his hands*
You- Oh no... no no, there's no need to apologize...*smirk* Is kind cute.
Hanzo- What? *look at you*
You- Depends in wich way you're looking at me. How do you see me?
Hanzo- *swallowed dry, he could not lie or pretend this time* Well...Always sees you as a beautiful attractive woman, smart, independent, strong... *take a deep breath* I promised to myself to never felt attracted by someone. But...you appeared! *laugh nervously* Is...kind funny.
You- *smirk and blush* ...coffee later?
Hanzo- *surprised and smile shyly looking away* Aaah...yeah, sure.

(Prompt) it's presentation day at school. The topic: the first media that awakened sexual thoughts in the students. Teacher!Jack ends with even hornier students in his class.
Usually, the students of his class were already pretty horny, what's with desperately wishing for his cock and prayign they'd be the ones fucked this day, masturbating and studyign to better pleasure him, but today it was even more pronounced.
The first student to present the video was D.va, and she showed a video of a petite asian girl being absolutely rammed, fucked mercilessly by a large white man. Fro minutes on end they watched that video, all the students getting hornier and hornier, before Hana smiled and turned it off. "And that's when i discovered what sex was~" she winked at the teacher before she moved to her seat.
The next presentation was Amélie's, the french woman being utterly shameless as she projected a video on the screen while she talked about stumblign on some "personal video" in her mother's laptop, watchign ti by curiosity, and suddenly understanding what the noises she heard comign from her parents' room were.
It continued like this for the entire lass: Brigitte, Emily, Genji, Olivia, Mei... most of them had found a porn video at some point in their teens, which had made them discover what sex was and started realizign they wanted it to. A handful of girls hadn't been awakened to sex by videos, but by magazines, lingerie ones for a good number of them, seeing all the model poses, in all these sexy underwear, had made them want to be sexy too.
Only a couple of them, like Hanza, Pharah, or Luciana, hadn't had their awakening by either of thesE. For Luciana it had been a seedy rap video, for Hanza (and a couple others) it had been reading the more erotic parts of books, or finding some forbidden romance/sex stories in some library shelf or others... but everyone had brought a copy of these media.
By the end of the clss, after beign exposed to so much sexual content, so much fucking, so much sex, all the girls were stupidly horny, so desperate for their teacher's cock that they collectively begged him to fuck them in a giant orgy.

Genji headcanon with doodle and a makeshift au concept!
(CW: unknown glowing green fluid coming out of mouth ,nose and eyes, death, near death, brief mention of childbirth)
Starting out this before I get into the story of it, out of the three characters you can summon the spirits in OverWatch Genji's is very different from the other two, while Hanzo and kiriko expel the spirits from their bodies Genji almost absorbs his or let it take over his body.
So now headcannon time!
Wild dune hanzo's mother was pregnant with Genji there is unforeseen complications which led to Genji being born very prematurely and to the unfortunate death of their mother. Genji should have died from this but his dragon physically didn't let him, his dragon used whatever power it could to keep him alive and help him survive. And from power used to keep Benji alive from such a young age him and his dragon have a much more intertwined connection and a much stronger connection than any other shimada before him. This at the same time however made his dragon appear smaller when summoned leading people to believe he wasn't as powerful as his older brother or his father. Little did anyone else know the reason his dragon was smaller was because more of the dragon's power was being used to physically make him stronger rather than to keep a larger form for the dragon.
Once again Genji's dragon would help save his life when after being almost killed by Hanzo he should have died before OverWatch got to him, but once again Genji's dragon used whatever power it could to make sure he didn't die, his dragon kept him alive and had been keeping him alive trying to help him survive through his entire time in blackwatch. And due to ever building anger for what happened his eyes were glowing red due to the power from his dragon ( Im pretty sure I had mentioned that before in a different head cannon post)
Eventually wants his body had fully gotten used to the cybernetics and had healed physically his eyes stopped glowing as much, this is because his dragon was now able to focus its magic or whatever elsewhere more attack focused rather than purely trying to keep him alive. And after his training with zenyatta he was able to much better control and work with his dragon and start to unlock his true capabilities.
Back to pulling from in-game stuff, Genji during his ultimate glows the entire time. Primarily with glowing mist or smoke emitting from his eyes along with lightning emitting from his skin. He is able to go faster and hit harder than he would normally. Additionally whenever he Ults Genji's expression in mood is furious and raging the entire time, he has a full blown snarl on his face.
LOOK AT HIM HES SO ANGY
Even more so when actually attacking! (Also don't mind him being massive and tiny in some pictures, i was in a custom game with a friend)
So I imagine whenever he fully summons his dragon for an attack unless he's summoning it like he does in the dragon cinematic where it's out and about doing its own thing, it physically possesses him partially! You still have most of his mental control but it's more fuzzy he's pretty much backseat driving in his own body, as the dragon has taken over complete control has essentially gone "you take a break buddy I'll take it from here" which means he ends up being a lot more powerful during attacks like this, but at a cost afterwards.
Doing this is very draining because the dragons were not meant to take control of the human bodies of their hosts, they can live with in them and be a part of them but whenever they are summoned and are going to use their powers they are outside of the human body in the physical world after being expelled from the human body. But not in this case, in this case it puts such a physical strain on Genji's body that whenever he fully does this it results in something like this after he gains control back.
(here is the trigger warning for the gore part)
He still has no idea what this green stuff is and no one from the clan was able to figure it out. And he hasn't fully summoned his dragon and gone into this form during his time in OverWatch so none of them have seen this side yet, but once they do not only are they freaked out by the fact that you just summoned a dragon and then started glowing and looked possessed but then afterwards started puking up this green stuff that they have no idea what it is.
And after they ask if he's okay once he stops spitting this stuff up, he says he's fine and he has no idea what it is. It could be anything from puke ,some sort of random goo that appears, he hopes it isn't blood. Either way Angela ends up taking a sample and does an extensive medical check up on Genji because she is very concerned about what she just witnessed happen. Even more so when she finds out that's the first time he's done that since his cybernetics, which is why it took so much more of a toll on his body than it used to, before he used to just spit up a tiny bit and maybe a bit would run from his nose but that was about it nothing ever this extreme has happened before.
And this is where it starts tiptoeing more into au territory.
One upside though is even after all this damage has been done to Genji's body, whatever injuries he would stains during this period of time that he's possessed and even injuries from before that are healed and fixed. If he got stabbed while possessed guess he's no longer stabbed because there's no trace of the wound ever being there.
And after testing they believe this green stuff he's throwing up is almost like an excess or the remains or remnant of whatever his dragon creates in order to heal his injuries. And since he has less body to heal it's got to go somewhere.
That's all I've got so far! Still working on the au part of this where it pushes the dragon healing his injuries even further, like maybe after a really bad fight where did you gets injured really badly and probably should have died again from his injuries but he was staying the injuries during the period he summoned his dragon his dragon set out to fix those wounds and somehow ended up doing more than he thought was possible. Resulting in him waking up and no longer having any cybernetics with his body being entirely regenerated to how it once was except for the fact he's obviously older than he was. So his body was like if he had never almost died to Hanzo and is if he kept living after that point. Obviously he freaks out quite a lot, leading to him involuntarily screaming when he looks in the mirror, hearing his cries some of the others including Cassidy run up outside the bathroom door asking if he's okay and what's wrong. He says everything's fine because he's still very much in shock and lies that there was something that fell and it spooked him and he would just be out in a minute and would be fine, cut to him coming out the bathroom now wearing his helmet along with all his normal clothes but with the addition of gloves, scarf, and a jacket on top of his hoodie basically covering anywhere is cybernetics would normally be showing.
He tries to be inconspicuous about it but that goes immediately out the window considering the fact he looks like he's dressed to be going out in a blizzard in the middle of summer in Gibraltar. And after much questioning he eventually admits that something is wrong and he doesn't know what happened, and then takes off his mask along with all the additional clothes leaving his hoodie and joggers and stuff. Which everyone else then joins him in the freaking out over the fact that not only are his scars gone that used to cover his face back and remaining fleshy parts but now his limbs are back?!
That's all I have I just thought it would be funny to imagine him freaking out over this, especially at one point where he's just like "god dammit I spent so long accepting who I was and coming to terms with my cybernetic body that this doesn't feel like me anymore I feel like I've been putting someone else's body again!!!"

Biolight, Kitsune, and the Sun(thoughts on the OW2 support heroes)
Okay. Rewatching the origin stories and cinematics of the OW2 exclusive heroes after playing them in game gave me a few thoughts.
Firstly, there's Niran aka Lifeweaver.
TL;DR: Niran was an incredibly smart rich kid with seemingly endless resources, a proclivity for disobedience, and distaste for perfection. Somehow, he basically made himself a god - being able to turn hardlight into real living matter - and is wanted by evil corporations so they can steal it. He also was Symmetra's roommate.
Pretty boy, super smart, super rich, loving parents, god powers.
Second, there's Kiriko.
TL;DR: Grew up with Hanzo and Genji (She should be in her late 20s-early 30s, if that's the case, but she's not) by her mother and grandmother, both of which having opposing views. Modernity vs Tradition. Instead of settling for one or the other, she blends the two in order to protect the people of Kanezaka from the Hashimoto mafia with her band of freedom fighters called the Yokai. She also has a fox spirit that makes her strong and keeps her young/healthy.
Pretty girl, natural leader, another ninja, loving parents, god powers.
TL;DR: Illari was groomed to be the greatest of the Inti Warriors, powerful fighters who used the energy from the sun to bolster themselves. She was slated to join the Inti after receiving her solar threading, but a blast of power during the ceremony destroyed the chamber and everyone in it - everyone but her. Living with the guilt, she refuses anyone's sympathy and continues striving to earn forgiveness for a slight she doesn't truly know was her fault.
Trained warrior but also prodigy, riddled with survivors guilt, loving community, god powers.
There is only one of these 3 I have no complaints about. Can you guess who?
Now, we get to the fun part, aka the part where I complain. Take everything I say with a grain of salt; this is my personal opinion that I am entitled to.
Yes, there is nuance and hidden details about every hero in Overwatch. As someone who has been following the games lore since way before the content drought, I am well aware of the hidden details. But when it comes to some of the new OW2 heroes, particularly the supports, does it feel like the new heroes have been relegated to "Mary Sue" status to anyone else?
With the exception of Illari, who is probably the best written OW2 support (Note: I specify OW2 support because the OW1 supports have good lore), the other two supports feel like they were made to be perfect and plastic.
Kiriko "I have the power of god and anime on my side" Kamori and Niran "actually a god" PruksaManee have this way about them that feels... too smooth. Niran was naturally ridiculously smart and somehow figured out how to become a god, I guess? How else do you explain crafting organic life from... nothing, basically? In fact, he is probably the most egregious example of what I'm referring to.
As for Kiriko, she is shoehorned into the story of Hanzo and Genji, made out to be a troublemaking child turned responsible adult... like Genji, just without the attempted murder, and has access to a spirit. The spirit thing is connected to an even bigger issue with the lore regarding the Shimada's dragons. No one explained what they are, and the fact they resemble hardlight doesn't feel like a coincidence. Is it supposed to be magic or not? At least in the case of Zenyatta and Rammatra's Iris, that could be explained by means of code. The spirits, not so much. Anyways...
A common argument I get in favour of their characters is "you just want them to be gritty and edgy." They don't need grit to be good. Yes, almost every hero in Overwatch has some form of grit, but it's not totally necessary to make a good character. Take Brig for example.
This is an example of a well written character with virtually no grit in her backstory. She's not a prodigy; she had to work hard for her skills. She has no god powers - no matter how busted she can be in game - and she didn't have to go through horrible traumas to get where she is. Yes, her father and godfather are both in the game and important to the lore, but that's not what makes her relevant and interesting. She feels distinct from them, and yet connects with them easily.
Her attitude isn't abrasive or annoying, her voicelines are consistent and fun ("Mace to the face!"), and she embodies her character type comfortably without being stereotypical. Brig feels her age, not overcompensating or a meme generator. And even beyond the squire archetype, she has shown a sensitive side in regards to art and poetry in the same way a tomboy would. While she is pretty (OW team make an ugly hero challenge: impossible), she isn't plastic like Lifeweaver and she doesn't look like a child the way Kiriko does. Brig is built like a young woman and probably one of the most realistic bodies in the game.
Brig is relatable.
Brig feels like me.
She is frankly a very well written character, both in and out of game, all while maintaining the futuristic fantasy of the OW2 world. You can make more characters like her without making them suffer some trauma or commit war crimes, Blizzard.

What are your thoughts on umineko now that you (i presume) have finished it- what are your feeling on the themes and the presentation of the characters?
It's hard to go into everything so I'll just try to cover the stuff I can think of now. Placing it below a break for an obviously spoiler-filled read.
Short answer: it's good all the way down, genuinely can't think of a single element that left a lingering bad taste in my mouth, quite frankly might have retroactively made some things I enjoyed in the past less good. Read Umineko.
(for posterity, I see that people use "Sayo Yasuda" as the catch-all when speaking about Beato/Shannon/Kanon/Clair/etc. collectively, so I'll be doing the same)
Truth and Fiction
I think what Umineko has to say about the importance of truth and the importance of fiction, especially as related to coping with trauma, is fascinating. Conventional wisdom is that, in order to cope with trauma, the best- and maybe only real- way forward is to acknowledge the truth, work through the resulting pain, and then you can actually begin to heal. And- in basically every case that springs to mind- Umineko goes "that's bullshit".
Like, as I currently scan through the cast: what good did being confronted with the truth do for Sayo, or Maria, or Ange, or even Natsuhi? Sayo would probably still be unbalanced but not go full tilt if she hadn't realized that the entire purpose for her extended existence was to to give Kinzo the opportunity to feel forgiven for raping his daughter. A 9-year-old stands to gain less than nothing from being told, in no uncertain terms, that her mother is just a Bad Person. Ange finally understood that by the end of Episode 3, but couldn't get over it and poisoned herself with the Single Truth. There is literally zero reason for Bernkastel and Erika tearing down Natsuhi's illusion that Kinzo gave a single fuck about her but their own cruelty. The thrust of Umineko in this regard is that, at the end of the day, your coping mechanism ends with you- it's not capable of doing any more or any less than you are capable of without it.
However, it also doesn't purport that the coping mechanism needs to be there forever. The epilogue with Ange suggests that, eventually, she no longer needed to have everyone at her side to give her the strength to keep going.
There's only one other story that I've encountered where a character chooses to continue engaging with their trauma coping mechanism and it isn't presented as a bad thing (rot13: Fnzhenv Synzrapb), and I think Umineko makes that point much more effectively.
Gender
I've noted a couple of times in my reading that seeing a not-insignificant amount of unconnected "BEATO TRANS" art and memes influenced the way I thought about the story at some parts, mainly once The Mystery Baby manifested in Episode 5. Taking that into consideration, I think the way Gender As It Pertains To The Story is handled maybe better than anything else I've ever engaged with.
Direct discussion is brought up exactly one time- when Will asks Lion if they're a boy or girl- and Ryukishi07 then trusts the reader to Understand The Implications of that. Which is actually a recurring thing in the story: the reader is never told, explicitly, textually, who Beatrice is, nor what happened on Rokkenjima, which is a pretty bold move to make in (what could be described) as a mystery!
(Actually, it's twice, since someone mentions that Zepar and Furfur are also indeterminately gendered, but it doesn't seem as relevant in the moment as Will asking about Lion does in that moment, although in hindsight, it obviously is)
I had mentioned that I was a little anxious about whether or not they would dig into what Sayo meant when they were dressing down Genji and Nanjo for keeping her alive- if they would hackishly reveal that the only part of their body that was damaged was their genitals, and that's why they considered themselves furniture, or if it was more abstract, knowing that literally everyone they felt any kind of love for was off-limits due to the incest. @random-tree suggested that another popular theory is that Nanjo- intentionally or otherwise (because it was the 60's)- performed "corrective" surgery on an intersex baby Sayo. Ultimately, I'm glad that the gritty details were never dug into; in the same way that the narrative condemns the people desperate to know the Single Truth as intellectual rapists, it completely sails around even raising the opportunity to do the same to Sayo's body.
Also, since I don't want to reblog it to avoid spoilers and it's most relevant here, please look at this artwork of Sayo; it's outstanding.
NEVERMIND THAT SHIT, HERE COMES SHONEN!!!
The first time Kanon drew his energy sword, I assumed that was going to be a one-and-done thing. Like, "haha we're doing a shonen fight scene for shits and giggles before we get back back to our cerebral murder mystery and battle of wits between Reality and Fantasy". And then every single episode had at least one extended sequence that could be slotted in to Shonen Jump without anyone batting an eyelash.
For however I come across writing big long screeds like this about the stories I engage with, I am a shonen meathead in my heart of hearts. I love watching characters power up out of nowhere because they have determination, I love watching villains get outplayed because they underestimated their opponent- OR DID THEY?, I love Battler and Beato doing the Erupting God Burning Sekiha Love-Love Tenkyouken to defeat Erika. I drink all that up like water, and the fact that it was completely genuine was such an unexpected delight.
I mean, shit, Ange's masterpiece as a writer is not-One Piece.
Ryukishi07 was a social worker (you say) who wasn't driven cynical and hollow
Knowing nothing about Ryukishi07 besides the facts that A.) he wrote Umienko (and Higurashi and Ciconia, which I haven't read) and B.) he was a social worker in his past, paints a tremendously impressive picture of the man. Being a social worker is a potentially soul crushing job, in a completely different way than that term is typically used, and to come out the other end and write something so optimistic speaks to his character.
Like, there is exactly one character I complained about as being a one-dimensional waste of time, and that was Kasumi, who was ultimately literally just a vector for Ange to come to terms with Eva. It would've been such an easy decision to make any of the adult Ushiromiyas also be one-dimensional nothings. Like, even Gohda has something going on: he a glory-hogging oafish dumbass, but he's genuinely passionate about cooking! And even the characters who are beyond redemption- in no particular order, Rosa, Kinzo, Erika, and Bernkastel- you can at least see some reason for why they are the way they are, even if they don't actually earn (or even try to get) forgiveness.
I also don't think I have ever been as emotionally devastated by the two-hit combo of "Maria's 'verbal tic' is actually Maria trying to cast a spell to make Rosa love her" and "Rosa bought Sakutarou and pretended she made it", so, props for that as well.
I could probably rattle off more things I like if pressed, and if there was anything in particular you'd like me to comment on I'd be happy to, but those were my biggest thoughts.
Read Umineko.

Genji and Hanzo for the niche ask, if you're still doing it.
Genji:
a song that reminds me of them: 'Life' by Mother Mother
what they smell like: Canonically he smells like walnuts from his armor polish! I imagine he also smells like choji oil, which is derived from cloves, so he smells surprisingly spicy! He also smells more coppery after a mission.
an otp: Gency! They've been my otp for like 5 years now!
a notp: Dvenji or Bunnyninja or whatever. They're buddies, don't make it weird.
favorite platonic/familial relationships: Zen and Tracer! Obviously his relationship with Hanzo is vital to his character, but I love writing his conversations with Zen and I also love how his dynamic with Tracer can have these multiple layers of mentor, peer, and subordinate.
a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with: Godddd the damage done by the 'I need healing' meme...the poor guy deserves better than that, but at the very least it made Genjis super self-conscious in game so that they're actually one of the most polite and supportive DPS's when it comes to healing, in my 5 kajillion hours as Mercy, at least. Also this fandom can be pretty awful about his accent/Japanese in fics... like worse than Hanzo's 'cowman' awful.
the position they sleep in: He overheats so easily but still he curls up! Prefers to sleep on his organic side rather than his prosthetic side.
a crossover au i’d love to see them in: *sobs that he doesn't have a StarWatch skin as a loyal enforcer to or valiant rebel against Infinite Seer Mercy* Also I've got to finish Blades and Broomsticks... and also get back on that Mermaid AU.
my favorite outfit they’ve ever worn: Sentai! Hennnnshin!
Hanzo
a song that reminds me of them: 'How to Disappear Completely' by Radiohead. It's hard to find a song that actually hits his growth over the years and his sense of duty and discipline, so I'm just going whole hog into the 'Hanzo Depression Zone.'
what they smell like: He doesn't smell all that good from all the Anguished Wandering he does--blood and sake is unfortunately a frequent scent. But when he can clean up he prefers dignified woodsy scents.
an otp: Yeehan, but also Bapzo.
a notp: Healing Arrow. Barf.
favorite platonic/familial relationships: Again, Genji's an obvious core to his character, but I also really like writing him having a good rapport with Satya. "I sense a kindred spirit..."
a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with: Can we please let 'cowman' die...
the position they sleep in: Side sleeper, slightly curled up, chin tucked in, arms folded--he even looks grumpy in his sleep!
a crossover au i’d love to see them in: Would actually be very interested in seeing actual Talon!Hanzo AU's.
my favorite outfit they’ve ever worn: Cupid Hanzo!! It took 84 years but it was worth it!!

💚✨ leave 5 facts about 3 of your ocs and pass them on to other people, asking them about an oc of your choice or let them choose what they want !! ✨💚
ayy, thank u 😭🤲💐
⠀1.⠀Knox has been deaf in one ear, left one, since he was 7 years old. This is because he was present during a shooting and the sound of the gunshots was what left him deaf.
⠀2.⠀His mother abandoned him and his father when he was a baby and his father died when Knox was 10 years old. This led to abandonment issues, if even his own parents had abandoned him, why wouldn't someone else do it? This is why he's afraid of commitment, and relationships in general, even friendships.
⠀3.⠀For the same reason mentioned above, he tends to distance himself from people and he does not allow himself to have relationships with people more than 3 times with the same person. It's because instead of waiting for someone to abandon him, he does it first.
⠀4.⠀After having been in several reformatories, he realized that this was not the life he should lead, but he didn't know what else to do. So he started studying philosophy with the purpose of finding meaning in his life.
⠀1.⠀Genji is the son of the leader of the yakuza. He also has an older brother with whom he does not keep much contact.
⠀5.⠀Although the relationship with his father was not the best of all nor the most exemplary, always on his birthday he goes to visit him at his grave, also for festivities such as Christmas or New Year. He usually sits on the grave and talks to him about his life or other times he just stays silent.
⠀2.⠀When he was 18 he ran away from home and changed his last name so people couldn't associate him with that shit. But the only person who knows about this is, in fact, his brother, which helped him erase his existing relationships with the gang.
⠀3.⠀The scar on his right eye was caused by his father. After an argument, his father threw a glass in his face, that burst against him. Not only does he have a scar but he is also partially blind, although nobody knows.
⠀4.⠀When Genji was a teenager he had a boyfriend, whom his father killed for a settling of accounts with the rival gang. Since then something in Genji's life changed forever, and his only engine is revenge.
⠀5.⠀After that he discovered that his father was doing business related not only to drugs but also to human trafficking. He will later discover that the man Zephyra killed was related to his father and. this part of the business.
⠀1.⠀Kaitlyn is not just a pretty face, her face IS her weapon and uses it to obtain information about the matters and people that are needed.
⠀2.⠀She may seem stupid at times, but she has an incredible memory that sometimes even gives shivers to the imperturbable Zahria.
⠀3.⠀She and Zahria are from rival gangs, but they have had a fiery romance for years, although facing the public they continue pretending they don't know each other.
⠀4.⠀Kaitlyn previously worked as a simple escort, although taking into account the number of men who went to see her and told her "secrets" she thought about making a business out of it and sold those secrets to other clients.
⠀5.⠀Everything she has learned has been self-taught, she never had much money and grew up in a troubled environment; but her biggest dream is to go to a real university, and have a happy life.
#I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THIS OMG#but well#Genji is one of my most beloved characters but I hardly talk about him ksjskaka#and Knox. well#the same#AND I LOVE KAITLYN SM#you can now wait for who is going to do everything possible to fulfill her dream#literally since they met everything zahria has done is for kait#she wants her to go to university and live her university life#whatever it takes 😭😭#oc: knox#oc: genji#oc: kaitlyn#oc extras#vinny.ocs

*Hanzo is watching Rumiko play the shamisen in Hanaoka in front of crowd smiling softly telling a story about two twins siblings who care for one another till one of them dies by trading places with them ending the story on a sad but bitter sweet moment in the story as the other twin lives towards the end of the story* Rumiko:*smiles sadly and sets her shamisen down for a moment* Thank you everyone its best if me and my son best be going. The crowd:*nodding wiping away few tears but smiles softly nodding before leaving the area heading back to their homes* Thank you. Rumiko:*smiles softly at Hanzo* Come along Hanzo, your father must be waiting for you. Teen Hanzo:...Why did you make that story sad? Rumiko:*looks at him and sighs* Well... Teen Hanzo:...Well? Rumiko: Let me tell you something this story is pretty old you know, yet the ending will be the same. Teen Hanzo: But why did they trade places why not run away from their actions!? Why did it have to be a bad ending? Rumiko: *looks at him and sighs softly* Not every story ends with a happy ending you know, like your father telling you the dragon brothers. Hanzo: It's just not fair... Rumiko: The story I told is about sibling who would care for each other to the point that one will die to save the other, it's not fair in the end. I've heard this story thousands of times though the end will be the same the twins were separated and reunited in the end only for things to spiral out of control... Teen Hanzo:*looks down very upset* But the one didn't have to die... Rumiko:*cups his face and smiles sadly* I know but they cared so much they cared so much they even by blood their also evil to in the end. Teen Hanzo:...But why? Rumiko: Every story has a history a warning, it depends on the person who takes this warning. Not every story will be the same brother against brother, blood against blood; war, love, power, lust, greed. These are all warnings. Teen Hanzo:*looks at her confused* But why tell that to the people where protecting? Rumiko: It's it let them know that the Shimada clan is on their side and how the Hashimoto won't do that, with the story of siblings it shows like how the dragons brothers with a different ending. In the end you and Genji are destine to do something greater though every part of me tells me you'll do more greater things. Teen Hanzo: What do you mean? Rumiko: *looks at him sadly and takes a deep breath before sighing* It means that you....Actually never mind I just worry for you and your brother... Teen Hanzo: *hugs her and hold her*Mother...Genji and I promise you we won't fail you or father when we lead the clan together! Rumiko:*smiles and hugs him back though she seems a bit nervous* I know you will.. Teen Hanzo:*looks at her smiling* Can we make sashimi together? Rumiko:*smiles softly and nods* Of course my hatchling, wanna race? Teen Hanzo:*eyes lit up and looks around for a moment and smiles* Yes! Rumiko: *smiles and pushed him a bit and starts running a bit* READY,SET, GO! Teen Hanzo: *runs after her*YOU CHEATED!! *Rumiko slows down a bit as Hanzo ran passed her which made her stop as she goes to a walk watching Hanzo continue to run having fun* Rumiko:*wipes her eyes drying a few tears away before sighing* I hope you and Genji stay safe and nothing bad happens...

Moicy (MoiraxMercy) Soulmate AU!
Been talking about this one for a while and the first chapter is finally up! Really happy to get it out, and big thanks to @lizziebylife who has some cute ass moicy merch.
So, hope y'all like it and lemme know what you think! It's pretty fun but there's some drama lol.
Chapter words: 3,300
Summary:
“You’ll meet someone as…interesting, as your tattoo.” Angela’s mother had once told her. And she'd believed her then. She'd held out hope, for several years, that her tattoo would burn and glow like a red-hot coal when they were near, and she'd meet that interesting person the Universe deigned as her soulmate. But as she got older, and the prime years of finding ones soulmate passed, that hope faded.
Now, Angela Ziegler was 29 years old, soulmateless, and with nothing tying her down to her hometown, decided to make the move from Zurich to Nightsound, Washington, expecting little more than a change of scenery and maybe a little less lonely of an existence, being closer to her friends like Lena and Genji.
Those expectations would change suddenly when Angela, on Lena's insistence, stepped into Coalescence Tattoo, and almost immediately felt the coal-burning heat she'd been waiting all her life for. There was only one problem: No one else in the parlor was experiencing the same.
--- A Soulmate Tattoo AU in which two soulmates are equally stupid.
