Quote
This is the new frontier of fetishistic desire around transition — mixed up with genuine emotion, hatred of being a woman, desire to be a dominant man, sexualizing the pain, fear and confusion around a desire to stop transition. In some ways, this is the natural path of sexually confused teens and young adults growing up in a porn culture, consuming violent sexual messages since childhood. It is a queer kink subculture ripe for grooming, abuse, and sexual harm. If history is an indicator, the presence of this subculture on Tumblr is an indication of its eventual spread.

Sometimes I think of myself as a woman, sometimes I think of myself as not having a gender. And sometimes I feel masculine, but not a man. But how is all of this performed? Does this mean that one day I'll wear flowy dresses and lipstick and the next I'll wear cargo pants and boots? (The answer to which is neither; I'd much rather wear pyjamas all day.)

While I love the central theme of "Copeing with looming death" in Fantastic Mr Fox, and I read Ash as more of a comentary on neurodivergence than on gender, i still adore thsi essay and it's look at gender in this film.

note from OP:
I'm just theorising again that a choicefully non/private/small transitioning enban may have reasons tied to their perception of gender performance. If it is a performance, then why pointlessly change? If no performance could capture it, then why try? If being binary is fun, why stop the fun? It could be apathy, hopelessness, fun, etc.

victor saying his costume was meant to present both male and female and yuuri asking minako to teach him how to move like a woman because he's struggling to connect with male sexuality. this show is full of gender
also yurio leaving before victor announces who's the winner because he knows yuuri won, and thinking he failed and that he can do better while his performace was praised

I'm back. Self hateing can be a bitch, but i want to try go back to this. thx for reading!
Movies
Tumblr media
SaltBurn (2023) Dir. Emerald Fennell
I watched this movie high and drunk on New Year, and I think it added to it the wried factor that the flim proudly wants to see as. Thought a month after watching and being able to actully sit on what the movie was trying to say, as well as all the discouse that came with it, i would have to say it only an ok movie. I did like how he movie look and many of the actor gave good performace, but like other then, it felt like the movie never went far enogh with it idea it wanted to present and more or less felt like it was following the trend of eat the rich movie rather then actully haveing anything to say about the ideas of wealth. And beacuse of that muddling of themes the outrangeuose scenes that the movie dose present, they come off less like an exploration of themes and more like they got together and was like "Omg wouldn't it be crazy if x did that" 4/10 (also highly recomomed Yhara Zayd video on the movie, )
Tick Tick Boom(2021) Dir. Lin-Manuel Miranda
I rewatched this moive with friend and i still pretty good. Alot of the songs are really good especially the last, I think it the best one in the soundtrack. Not much else to say 7/10
Shows
Tumblr media
Pokemon Concierge (2023)
This show was so cute. It was just something light that i would put on while eating breckfast before work. I mainly watch it for the anmation as I it by the same people who did the Rilakkuma and Kuora, which is another light sweet show I enjoyed! Over all, it very short sweet and cute! (6/10)
Tumblr media
Better Call Saul (2015) S1
I really like breaking bad and as well as El Comino as think both are so good are exploreing the idea of manhood. But dispit me love both of those i've always put off watching better call saul, mostly because back when the frist season came out I hear it was only ok. After watching it I did think I was very intriguing but also kinda slow, which I kinda get why, it seem that there setting up alot for the later season, but I still found a bit of slog to get thought in comparsion to breaking bad. But i also really am interested in the ideas of justitce and the law which they seems to be setting up. Thought with the last episode of the seson I kinda just thought it was ok, like oh that it? I am looking forward to watching the other season but I am no real rush to watch it (7/10)
Books
Tumblr media
I Don't Which Is Love by Tamamushi Oku
I'm trying to read more manga, and i saw people talk about this on tik tok and thought it was very cute and it was......ok? It was kinda cute?? I thought I would like it since it yuri but i think the harme part of it ruin it and relised i hate harme no matter what gender, which is more of me not liking a trope rather then there being actul anthing wrong with the manga. Over all it was fine, very cute art, i dont think it's for me (2/5)
Tumblr media
The Bunker Diary by Kevin Brooks
Omg this fucking book. It been on my tbr for years and I read it in two session and thought it was very good dispit being a book aimed at like 14 year old and I say If i was 14 I would be traumatised by reading this. I like how dark the story was and how it wasn't afraid to hold back from any subject which I general do like in media aimed towards children and teens. I would recommend it if you want to read something easy while still being interesting (4/5)
Songs I love:
Mama Boy-Dominic Fike
Dear Diane- Diners
Tom's Diner-Suzanne Vega
I Love You- Fontaines D.C.
Kites- N.E.R.D (Kendrick Lamar, MIA)

Artist Research - Daisy Collingridge
Tumblr media
After doing the Filoconstructions workshop, and bringing my textile work into a more sculptural atmosphere, I wanted to do some research into artists who focus more in a sculptural area of textiles instead of fashion. Therefore I chose to conduct research on Daisy Collingridge.
Tumblr media
Daisy Collingridge is a British mixed media artist who combines textiles with photography, sculpture and performace. She describes her work as “an exploration and celebration of the human form... harnessing a tactile and haptic quality of softness and colour”. She studied BA diploma in Fashion Design from Central Saint Martins, London from 2010 to 2014.
I think her work is incredibly interesting in terms of expression and texture. I really like how the softness of the fabric on the surface resembles the soft surface layers of people's skin, but by layering the fabric and making it so structured it also represents the integrity of the human body. The way she portray masculine and feminine elements of the body are also quite peculiar. It's not the usual way gender is portrayed in modern day art, and I find the way it is disrupted very relevant to the theme of my project.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Collingridge is fascinated by what is happening at present internally within the body, and also how the average person has no true concept of what they look like on the inside. Daisy's work aims to provide a perspective of this. Her work consists of hand dyed jersey fabric, primarilty in shades of pink, ochre, yellow and orange. The primary techniques used in Daisy work are stitching and quilting, she uses so many layers of fabric its almost unrecognisable as quilting. These techniques are used to tranform the soft, flimsy physicality of fabric into a structured and rigid medium. The layers of fabric and stitching are meant to mimic the muscle tendons and fibres of the human body.

Nat Randall
Nat Randall’s work The Second Woman explores gendered power dynamics in the everyday. Through repetition the show highlights differences and consistencies in gender performance across ages, professions and borders. The work also demonstrates the symbiotic and reactionary relationship between gender, performance and power.
Tumblr media
(Randall, 2017).
The female performer is a constant and by introducing a new male participant with each show, the archetypal male/dominant, female/submissive dynamic is subverted. The set is her domain, she has rehearsed there and performed the show a number of times, he has never been in the space before. She must react and respond to him, but is in control of how the show progresses. Further, because the female performer remains, the male participants are viewed in relation to each other and common elements of performative masculinity appear. The artist says,
“Femininity is historically associated with performance, and masculinity is historically associated with authenticity. Obviously both genders are performative…And yet in the show, because the male-identifying participants are portrayed in relation to one another, what you begin to notice over time are the generic characteristics of their presentation.” (Randall in Stone, 2019).
The use of cameras to live record and mix shots of the show as it unfolds, especially close-ups of the performers’ faces, allows the audience to more closely analyse and dissect the subtleties of performed masculinity as it responds to performed femininity. The fact that the entire crew of the production is non-male identifying strengthens the discerning focus of the audience onto the reactionary behaviours of the male performers rather than the female performer.
Through casting local female performers and male participants for each of the international showings, The Second Woman reflects the audiences own unique gender performance characteristics back at itself. Similarly, by having several locale specific international versions of the show, which is itself repeated over and over, each audience is forced to view their own iterations of gender performance and related power dynamics in a global context. The show acts as a lens through which the viewer is confronted with their place in acting out and perpetuating those dynamics in their everyday life.

No, really. I think the Todoroki household seems rather traditional, plus Shouto was ridiculously isolsted from everyone else, so I wouldn't he surprised if he had very 20th century ideas on gender and sexuality. Really, he's parroting Endeavor because he didn't know there were other options, and it never came up anyway because he didn't really have any friends to be attracted to and Endeavor probably insisted that the time for wives and children would come after, and he needed to focus on his training. So he never really asked himself if he wanted to be with a girl or a boy because neither was a possible option atm.
Overall i headcanon him as bisexual, but he gets crushes so rarely you wouldn't know unless he told you or you spent several years with him, enough to see him be attracted to at least two (2) people. I like to think he mostly only likes Izuku though, who is also bisexual and helped him figure things out, but in a very no homo kind of way. As in "haha i'd love to have a boyfriend" "me too" "damn good luck" "you too" and then they go home.
Still, it takes him a while to understand the real world and he ocassionally makes a random mysogynistic comment without realizing, which makes Bakugo furious because he can't stand the face of stupidity, even though Shouto is quick to apologize and willing to learn. Still, Bakugo drags him into this feminist literature book club he has with kiri and mina to see if he can get some good ideas into his stupid half and half head. No, shouto, women aren't """"fragile"""" and underestimating them means you won't be giving your best performace. Everyone is the competition and removing half the enemy from the equation might blind you to all these other people you have to defeat. You gotta commit murder against everyone equally. You also need to respect people's pronouns, if you don't call Tsu by fro/frog/frogself or whatever it is this month Bakugo WILL blow out your intestines from the inside. For not taking things seriously.
