As much as I love Cross, I prefer her in GNG so as far as GDW goes, I gotta pick my girl Lydia. My doggo wife tbh. I love her SO much.

my favorite male character

John. Always John. Forever John. I don’t care if he dies fairly early on in GDW, his presence within the series as a while is pretty damn powerful, especially the episode and chapter(s) with his death. I have never, EVER cried for a character dying in the way that I continuously cry over John each and every time I watch that episode.

my favorite book/season/etc

Do arcs count? Because I think I’m gonna have to answer this with story arcs since I have not read the manga properly since it’s not translated, and the anime is only one season. So, I’m gonna say the Kaibutsu/P4 arc. It’s always been my favorite ever since I first started watching GDW back when I was 12.

my favorite episode (if its a tv show)

Episode 9. I know I’ve talked about this before. It destroys my heart, makes me sob uncontrollably, but it leaves SUCH an impression on me. It’s one of my most watched episodes and always will be.

As far as the anime is concerned? That’s going to Weed. Y’all can fight me in the pit.

a character I just can’t sympathize with

Hougen, easily. They tried to give him a tragic backstory and make you sympathize with him with Genba died but… it didn’t really work. I felt bad for all of 5 seconds and that was it.

a character I grew to love

Tbh I’m actually gonna say Lydia for this. I did not like her when I first learned about her but M A N she heckin grew on me. What a good doggo.

In Chronicles of Ohu, one of the best fanfics of ANYTHING I've ever read, Chutora gets hurt really bad like Genba did in GDW and turns bad and ends up doing a lot of unspeakable things. The crew manage to catch him and get him sleeping and they watch him for a while then leave him in the cave but Smith stays behind and smothers him and pretends that he choked to death on his own. It's such a powerful chapter and just incredible. They all agree to never speak of Chutora again, explaining why it's like he never existed in GDW. Knowing how close Smith and Chutora are canonically makes it even more gut-twisting.

As Toube pins Jaw to the ground and finishes him off, the blood splatters all over the cave and dogs watching it. 

Hougen and Genba are smiling, Kite and Buruge are stoic while Kamakiri turns away in disgust. It’s odd to see Kamakiri disgusted with the blood splatter on him because he killed the dogs (especially Hiro’s father, Yukimasa) by himself. Maybe that’s because Kamakiri can’t stand the blood messing up his beautiful fur but then again, he’s full of shit.

Upon seeing Akame who had scalped him on a previous encounter, Genba goes berserk from a nasty reminder and attacks him in a rage. 

Genba: Hah...You're right in that. It's my mission to bring your head for my brother. 

Akame: This time you won't survive only with the loss of scalp...

Genba: RAAAWWRRR!!!! DAMN YOU!!! *charges at Akame in a rage*

The first appearance of Genba

On top of the tree, Akame at first mistakes the spotted Great Dane for Hougen until he finds that this Great Dane had floppy ears which Hougen doesn’t have. It turns out this Great Dane with floppy ears is Genba, the younger brother of Hougen who arrived to take over Gajou.
