ever a tender soul, vera munson listened to soft rock and flowery, sunshine pop music. in the van on the way to school in the morning, she'd turn the radio dial up to high and sing to her son, "starting the day off right." one of her favorites was tin man by america, and she would always remember to turn her head towards eddie and serenade him the line "but oz never did give nothing to the tin man that he didn't, didn't already have..." she'd harbored some guilt over his unstable childhood when they'd moved around with his dad, so before he'd hop out of the passenger side, she challenged him to make a friend that day. sometimes, ed would be a smart mouth and mention he had plenty of pals.
vera would smile down at his brown eyes and smirk. depending on the morning, she might off-handedly comment that no one ever had enough friends or one more pal wouldn't hurt him none. but some mornings, that smirk would turn wistful, and she'd gaze down at her boy for a second longer than she otherwise would. her soft words would hit eddie right in the chest as she said: "you got a big heart, kid. maybe the biggest heart i've known. don't be afraid to open it up a little wider for someone else. you never know who might need that... have a good day, sweetheart!"
at the stupid age of eight, eddie might laugh at her or roll his big eyes, but always, always, he'd blow kisses back at his wild mother and wish her the best day right back. "go drive somebody else crazy, lady!" he'd shout while trotting off to school with an impish grin eclipsing his round features. for the rest of the day, those words and those lyrics would play through his head, and on more than one occasion did he get put in the corner for humming aloud during class.

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (1992)
CLASSIC MOVIE MOMENTS
In this film the men were off to war and baseball wanted to keep their sport alive so they decided to make a major league of female ball players with the mind to end it when the men were back. Placing women back in the role of housewife.
Many brave and strong females fought for their league. Even after their fathers, brothers, husbands and sons came back home and unfortunately some didn't make it back
This movie was directed by the late great actress/director PENNY MARSHALL that fictionalized the actual ALL-AMERICAN GIRLS PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL LEAGUE OR AAGPBL
In the gifs started the tryouts where Mae (MADONNA) and Doris (ROSIE O'DONNELL) tried intimidating farm girls Dottie Hinson (the spectacular GEENA DAVIS) Dottie's little sister Kit Keller (LORI PETTY) and daddy's girl and tomboy Marla Hooch (MEGAN CAVANAUGH) but when Doris threw her best pitch at these girls. Dottie caught the ball with her bare hand. She did what she did and took no questions afterwards.
This movie boasted an incredible cast of ladies plus the ICONIC TOM HANKS as the drunken coach that at first didn't give a damn about ladies playing baseball.
All were fantastic but this movie for me went to the talented and beautiful GEENA DAVIS as Dottie Keller Hinson. Her character played for one year. Had a flirtatious relationship with the drunken coach but then went home to her husband after he returned home from war. While Dottie's sister Kit whom always felt second best to her sister found her calling as a professional baseball player when she defeated her sister's team THE ROCKFORD PEACHES (once her team until she was traded) bringing victory to her new team THE RACINE BELLES.

There's that meme out there that's like "you grow up wanting to be Lydia and then end up being Delia when you're an adult," but uhhh I took a look at my life and went "oh I'm actually Barbara." Though honestly, once a goth nerd, always a goth nerd! 😂 My mom could have been Geena Davis's doppelganger in the 90s (and still could honestly), so really it was a matter of time before I put together a Barbara Maitland look!
When this dress is completely finished, I'll finish up the write-up that I started on this, but until I finish handpainting the daisies, here's where we're at for now. I was able to get almost the entire way around the skirt and because I had previously smashed together 2 Amazon dresses making one very swooshy, full wrap dress, I used safety pins to cover the unpainted sections of the skirt. Thankfully in the demos, she wears a cardigan, so I was able to cover the fact that I also haven't finished painting the bodice for the evening. It was actually pretty chilly at Wondercon, so changing into a cosplay with a sweater was ideal!
If you made it this far, here is a very silly photo of me trying to get my badge lanyard off while unbeknownst to me my friend snapped photos

 Editors’ Choice:
In honor of the one year anniversary of our briefing, we picked some of our favorite fics posted during this week in years past. Be sure to share your favorites we didn’t include!
and if you wonder about the spell i’m under (it’s your love) by mikaylawrites | Rated T | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | “You don’t look so bad yourself,” she purrs, her fingers reaching out to unnecessarily adjust his belt buckle. “And I think you’re gonna win tonight.”
He groans, both because of where her hand is and because the superstitious side of him can’t tolerate that kind of talk. “I’m gonna need you to go outside and turn around and spit.”
“Don’t need to,” she tells him, “because I know I’m right.”
A night at the Academy of Country Music Awards with country music power couple Josh Lyman and Donna Moss.
Friendship, Rings, and Heartstrings by JessBakesCakes | Rated G | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | Sam feels sort of like a whack-a-mole at the arcade with how quickly and intensely the epiphany hits him. Maybe this is it. Maybe they’ll finally get it together. Behind all the flirting and banter is an incredible devotion they have to each other; one that possesses them to eat only a bite of a granola bar for nearly twenty-four hours or to hop on an international flight with whatever nonsensical items would fit in a backpack. He’s seen it for years now; he’s just been waiting for them to see it too.
Help Me Hold Onto You by jeaniecregg | Rated G | C. J. Cregg/Toby Ziegler | Complete | In which CJ has a bit of an existential crisis...
Hell Is Other People (But Not You) by McKat | Rated T | Will Bailey/Sam Seaborn | Complete | Sam’s visiting the White House when they go into a Crash.
He and Will get stuck together.
Maybe there are worse places to be.
 Champagne by arborealstops | Rated G | C. J. Cregg/Kate Harper | Complete | “I got you a present.”
please linger near the door by cmbing | Rated T | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | They’re definitely not dating when there is a presidential dinner and they don’t think to invite dates. Instead, they assume they’ll go with each other. Him in a black tux, her in a red dress. Their arms are interlocked as they enter the ballroom, and Donna even goads Josh into dancing with her. It’s friendly, nothing more.
They’re just having sex. That’s it.
the weight of love (in your arms) by joshllyman | Rated T | Josh Lyman/Sam Seaborn | Complete | He steals a glance at Josh and sees that his face is carefully blank, intentionally wiped of all emotion.
“Just tired?” Sam asks quietly, and Josh looks up at him.
Josh shakes his head. “Something like that.”
   Misc:
Happy birthday to Kim Webster, who played Ginger!
