Did you know that your home creates approximately 40 pounds of dust every year? If you are thinking where that dust goes, the answer is in your air ducts and in the cool or warm air pumped into each and every room in your home. For this reason, itās important to do regular cleaning of your ducts.Ā Ā
Why Clean Your Ducts?
With overtime, your air ducts create an inner lining of dust, debris, and toxins, which are then circulated throughout your home, and cause your HVAC system to work harder than it needs to heat and cool your home.Ā
Benefits of Cleaning Ducts -Ā
1. Reduce the level of dirt & debris: Every year dust, dirt, debris naturally find their way into the duct system of your home. Not only dusty, but dirty air also creates more housework as you continually clean away the dust.Ā But dusty vents and ducts with the small lining of debris can attract rodents and other unnecessary house guests who look for a place to have a nest.
2. Improve Efficiency: When your ducts have a build-up of grime and dust, they may not work properly as they used to. A clean system works with full efficiency and will make a cost-effective performance. It is recommendable that regular maintenance is more affordable than replacing a new unit.
3. Reduce The Symptoms of Asthma & Allergies: Some people in your family are sensitive to allergies or even suffer from asthma or any other breathing issues. If you have pets in your family, hair/fur, and dust they shed can make worse issues.Ā Cleaning your vents regularly can reduce sick time, personal illness, and more.
4. Prolong Life of Your System: The dirtier your ductwork system becomes, it will be harder for your unit to push air through the ducts. And it will keep circulating evenly throughout your home. If you regularly clean your HVAC system motor & ducts, it will experience less wear and tear.
5. Ensure Your Home is Safe: Every year, many homes catch fire because of debris that has collected in the duct. This situation can be avoided only by ensuring your home's ducts are cleaned and maintained as needed. If you have an older HVAC unit, this risk grows exponentially and you also use fuels to run your furnace, fireplace, or portable heating units.Ā
If you have recently moved to a new home or have replaced your HVAC system, always take a good time to get your air duct cleaned. You can also call experts from LPG for air duct cleaning services in Geelong you will get amazing service on the same day.

Mia Mala McDonald and Steph Hughes On Being A Rainbow Family In A Heterosexual World
Mia Mala McDonald and Steph Hughes On Being A Rainbow Family In A Heterosexual World

Their rental house in Preston is close the creek and has a big backyard, a relief during COVID times! Photo ā Bri Hammond.
Last year the trio went on a road trip on the east coast of Australia to document rainbow families around the country for Miaās project,Ā Once In a Lullaby.Ā Photo ā Bri Hammond.
Focusing on the little things in isolation is exciting, like watching seeds grow and making the most of sunny weather. Photo ā Bri Hammond.
āItās only in the last 10 years that same sex couples have been legally allowed to be on the birth certificate, and to get married and adopt. Weāre at a moment of huge legal change, brought about by people whoāve rallied for it forever. For the most part, rainbow families are happy to educate people, but weāre weary too,ā says Mia. Photo ā Bri Hammond.
The trioās favourite housebound activities consist of planting seeds, playing Magnetix and hide-and-seek. Photo ā Bri Hammond.
āIām giving myself a hall pass on screen time for Sid. That helps. Things are crazy, so no rules on that. If Iām going on hour six of playing hide and seek one-on-one, then yeah, letās do a massive screen time session!ā says Steph. Photo ā Bri Hammond.
āPeople think itās okay to ask us how we had Sidney, and who āthe real mumā is. Thatās honestly one of the mildest questions we get. We had to do a lot of explaining throughout the pregnancy, every time we were at the hospital, for instance,ā says Mia. Photo ā Bri Hammond.

Photographer Mia Mala Macdonald and illustrator Steph Hughes are feeling thankful for their rambling Preston rental, which they moved into just weeks before social isolation came into effect. Itās near the creek and has a big backyard thatās already sparked a love affair with gardening in their three-year-old daughter Sidney.Ā
At their previous unit in Pascoe Vale, their next-door-neighbour used to wish them good morning every day without fail. Sheād speak in Italian to Sidney, and offer fruit from her garden. She was elderly and had dementia and every morning, without fail, sheād look from Mia to Steph and ask: āSisters?ā
Australia had a plebiscite for marriage equality less than three years ago. Itās mind-blowing how recent that is, and how hurtful it must have been, and must still be. It was part of the reason Mia started Once in a Lullaby, her upcoming book of portraits of rainbow families living their lives, existing without justification, in the hope that it will help people feel like they belong. Especially kids of rainbow families, like Sidney.Ā
If youāre in a position to help support her Pozible campaign to print the thing, run, donāt walk.
Hey Mia + Steph ā How are you balancing work/parenting/isolating at the moment?
Mia Mala McDonald: Weāve always spent equal time working and being with Sidney. That was a priority from the get-go. We each have a part-time salary, which combines to make one workable income as a team. We keep our overheads low, because we want to share the parenting responsibilities.Ā
Steph Hughes: Since isolation kicked in, Iāve had some illustrating jobs for peopleās passion projects that theyāve finally gotten around to. Itās an interesting bunch of things. I set an alarm for 4.45am and work then.
I wake up then too! But just from anxiety. No alarm necessary.
SH: (Laughing) anxiety is definitely a huge motivator for me. Itās stressful out there! But weāre trying to keep a lid on it for the kid, and ourselves.
MM: Parenting and work doesnāt leave much time for me to ponder what the current crisis all means. By the time Iāve made the snack and found the missing pink boot Sid wants to wear, and the matching dress at the bottom of the washing basket, thatās half the day done. Iām distracted by the demands of parenting, in a good way.
You both seem relatively sane. Whatās your secret?
SH: Iām giving myself a hall pass on screen time for Sid. That helps. Things are crazy, so no rules on that. If Iām going on hour six of playing hide and seek one-on-one, then yeah, letās do a massive screen time session! Iām trying to get in my body more, worry less. We go down to the creek every day. I may have unsuccessfully tried to do a late night jazzercise class on YouTube. Just stuff that gets me out of my head.
Did you say late night jazzercise? Tell me more.
SH: Maybe it was kind of kick boxing that involved dancing? It was very loud. Look, itās a confusing time. We are all off our heads. May as well get fit!
What were some of the feelings that came up for you when shooting your upcoming book about rainbow families, āOnce in a Lullabyā?
SH: It made me really grateful for our situation, and aware of how smoothly things went for us when we decided we wanted to have a kid.
MM: We didnāt realise how uncomplicated our parenting journey was. We asked a friend of ours to be the donor during a casual conversation over the phone. And heās very much involved in our life and Sidās life. Logistically, itās been far from complicated, and the most wonderful thing is that we have this incredible new extended family who we love and who all love Sidney.
What were some of the more complicated circumstances you came across?
MM: The journey for two dads is often extremely complicated, around 10 years duration and usually very costly, because political and financial support is so limited. Male couples want to be parents like everyone else, but the hoops they have to jump through are extreme.Ā Ā
The families allowed me into their homes and shared really personal, and at times, deeply emotional and intimate stories with me. You meet these people and you feel such an affinity with them. Thereās so much camaraderie. Weāre a rainbow family in a heterosexual world, but itās a comfort to know weāre not the only ones. Weāre trying to figure out how we fit, and weāre doing it together. Itās a special feeling.
Every kidsā show Iāve seen has two hetero parents. Have you found any alternatives?
MM: There are some books about rainbow families, but theyāre almost like text books. They explain our existence and that weāre ānormalā too, but thatās about the extent of it. Iād throw this suggestion to the team at Peppa Pig, weād love to see a single parent, or a couple of lesbians at the BBQ. Incidental lesbians! Not a story about their family unit and how they had a kid, too.
SH: Sometimes itās tricky to be different. And I know that from growing up. I wish I had more references to help me understand why things were a bit different for me.
MM: Rainbow families donāt expect to be represented in every possible spot there is, because it doesnāt reflect society. Living in the inner city of Melbourne, thereās usually a rainbow family on every street. Weāre part of the texture. Weāre so lucky to live in this city and we know how privileged we are to live in a country where our personal life is not illegal. Weāre still a minority, but no representation doesnāt reflect our community, and that can be frustrating, particularly when youāre a parent. Sidney started having those conversations with us at two years old. Itās a difference sheās very aware of.Ā
Have you had to do a lot of explaining since becoming parents?
MM: People think itās okay to ask us how we had Sidney, and who āthe real mumā is. Thatās honestly one of the mildest questions we get. We had to do a lot of explaining throughout the pregnancy, every time we were at the hospital, for instance. Itās only in the last 10 years that same sex couples have been legally allowed to be on the birth certificate, and to get married and adopt. Weāre at a moment of huge legal change, brought about by people whoāve rallied for it forever. For the most part, rainbow families are happy to educate people, but weāre weary too.Ā
Weāre just like any other parents, trying not to forget the sunscreen and the signed excursion forms. Weāre doing the best we can and learning as we go.Ā
Straight people donāt just need to educate themselves, we need to educate others too. Like if your family member is saying ignorant or hurtful things at the dinner table, even if they are ānot meaning to offendā, we need to say something.
SH: The arsehole at the dinner table is a real archetype. But it takes big people to do that. Itās amazing when it happens. We always appreciate it.Ā
Sidney (looks up from Peppa Pig): Why do you have hairy legs, mama?
SH: Why do you have hairy legs?
Family Favourites
Housebound activity?
Planting seeds, playing Magnetix and hide-and-seek. Hugely popular activities right now!
Breakfast ritual?
Sid wakes up at 5.30am, so our morning ritual is trying to get Sid to watch a show so we can go back to bed. Fails every time. Coffee and toast, always.
Go-to album?
Lucinda Williams āWorld Without Tearsā without doubt.
Date night in?
I think we have a laugh and a beverage most nights. Itās bit hard to delineate between a date night and regular night at the moment. Sometimes we try to cook something non-gross together, and thatās always lovely.
Weekend getaway (remember those)?
We love regular trips and have been missing them ā we often go to Miaās hometown of Yandoit and her familyās house. We also go to stay with our friends Shauny and Bex in Rye which has been a lovely tradition springing up. Recently thereās been some gigs in Rye, Castlemaine, Geelong and Ballarat and we always make good weekends out of those.

A TFN journey: aĀ story in 3 parts - Part 3
2017 was my first Transformers convention. As a collector with more than a modest affection for Transformers, it had always felt like a box I needed to tick off. This is the third part of my story at TFNation.
If youāre joining me for the first time you can find parts one and two here and here respectively. Ā
A convention roars to life and stutters to a halt as abruptly as Predacons on a march. In the time span of days you ride the current and eddies of an energon rush. The whirlwind of experiences that accumulate meld into a hazy mess that you find yourself trying to piece together. For some itās easy, for others itās hard. I fell into the latter category.
Iām not sure if it felt particular harder because it was my first convention or it was because of the distance Iād traverse to get there but it took a while for my understanding to coalesce. Ā
What did become clear was that the comfort of finality was constantly thwarted by continuity. Conventions are sliding doors. You meet someone, chat with them, share great stories, build on old ones and move on. Whatās never clear is if the storyās ended. Youāre never sure if, where and when you might bump into them again.
That makes it hard to land on a sense of finality, to get a sense of closure, because youāre constantly accumulating new information. Whether its the big things like another piece of someoneās story or learning a bit more about their body language and mannerisms, incorporating this new information makes it hard to fully digest everything. Itās harder too as the late convention nights start to take their toll and you find yourself in need of a good slumber in the CR chamber.
Iāve mentioned Bobby and Matt previously but I want to start with them again. Two strangers who made me feel comfortable on the first night, Iād regularly meet them again and again over the course of the three days. Each time, Iād learn a little bit more about them, see how they were faring, and once again be grateful for generosity. More than that, through these repeat encounters I re-met people like Steve and Maz or met new people like the wonderfully talented Sam (who completed Trypticon hip surgery on the bar floor!).
Then there was finding Veicki (@megapurrv). At breakfast on Saturday, Veicki spotted me in my Rodimus costume. Turns out she was the one whoād made the t-shirt that was the centrepiece of my holo avatar costume. As I sat down to feast on the scrumptious Hilton breakfast, I penned in getting a photo with her later on. I mean, what were the odds of bumping into the person who designed my t-shirt? Something that had led to a mountain of fun? But as the hours of Saturday passed, ClubCon came and went, time snowed into the deep hours of Sunday morning at the bar, and another breakfast passed I thought Iād missed my chance. Thatās the thing about conventions. You can never be sure if youāll bump into someone again or have another chance to chat with them. You have to make the most of the opportunities you get. Fortunately for me, I did find Veicki just before I had to scurry away. Iām grateful to her for being such a large part of my TFNation story.
Among the reasons I chose TFNation over other conventions was Maz (@TFsquareOne). More than being the strong creative force that he is, Maz is a strong spark of positivity. A must in a fandom that predicates its joy on rekindling the fires of yesterday. I will admit to being apprehensive about spending some of my holiday time for a convention but I can attest that Maz radiates a lot of what is great about TFNation. The positivity, the camaraderie, the openness.
I also owe a lot to Maz. Pushing me to set up my collection was important. Coming home to my toy room, sitting in it, is an amazing experience. Left to my own devices, I would have procrastinated for years. The satisfaction I feel everytime I sit in it is hard to describe. But more important than that, Maz asking me to write a collector interview was something that forced me to reflect on one of the major privileges Iāve enjoyed in life. It made me acknowledge and appreciate my better half and the understanding sheās shown of my second love; a topic I somehow ended up chatting with Sexo (@sixo) about! So I looked forward to meeting this sod in the flesh.
An innately likeable bloke, Maz whirlwinded around TFNation. We crossed paths many times but it wasnāt until a quiet moment on Sunday afternoon that things slowed down enough for a meaty chat. It was amid this that he asked an incisive question. The exact wording eludes me but it was along the lines of āYou seem to be doing really well for yourself?ā Itās a hard question for me. One that I struggle with most days. For me, itās hard because it carries the full weight of privilege that I know Iāve been fortunate enough to enjoy in this life. And the open question that that leaves me with is what am I going to achieve with that privilege? Beyond a successful career that affords me the opportunity to travel wherever I want, buy whatever I want? Itās a burden I continue to struggle with but I do know one thing for sure: that Iām obligated to try and be a source of positivity and warmth. If thereās someone who embodies that, itās Maz. I waffled and meandered but I think I mouthed off something vaguely coherent to Maz. It wasnāt the sort conversation I expected to have at TFNation but if I was going to have it with someone, Iām glad it was Maz.
Last and certainly not least I have to thank Graham (@grhmthmsn) and Dom (@domsalvia). Thereās no way I could write about this weekend without mentioning them. Iād interacted with both a lot online before TFNation. When I met both on Friday night, it was clear they were as adoringly charming in real life as they were online. Throughout the weekend our paths crossed regularly and Iām incredibly grateful to share a bunch of memories with them both across the weekend. Whether it was our conversation at the bar on Friday evening, camping in line on Saturday morning, being introduced to the amazingly talented and affable Lisa (@DarkestH0ur), the fun in James Robertsā queue, sharing a Blurr-like meal before ClubCon, or that conversation with Sexo about photography on Sunday, those guys were so much of what made TFNation great for me. I hope I was able to fully convey my appreciation to each of them.
You would think the story ends there. But it doesnāt. Something Iāve come to realise is that a convention like TFNation creates not only new memories but, more than that, new strands of continuity. Trying to organise them into tidy compartments is an exercise in futility. You might as well be Lug trying to dissuade Anode from a reckless course of action. This dawned upon me in the days post TFNation as I found myself still unpacking those things through the imperfect lens of information creep.
The post convention TFNation love you feel (on Twitter for me) makes you realise that youāve formed new and stronger bonds with people you had only fleetingly known, bonds that make interacting with them all the more meaningful and fun.
There are the people you kind of knew but now know more about. Gareth (@SantiagoJones) was a sneaky bugger and snuck in a little reference I almost missed in a display of his hidden artistic talents. Every time I watch Geelong, an Australian Rules Football team, play now I think of fondly of him. Heās also responsible for a tweet that caused me to snort inappropriately in the middle of a pretty intense meeting. It was funnier because having met Mr. Jones I could hear the voice that was delivering the tweet. Thereās also Kit (@tikgnat, a.k.a. Collector Interview 40) who I knew more by his hilarious resume of work rather than by who he was. Being able to hear his infectiously cheeky voice now whenever he trolls something adds an extra layer of amusement. These countless little post-convention moments remind me that TFNation wasnāt just an awesome Transformers convention, it was also a catalyst: a catalyst for new stories, new bonds, and new friendships. Ā Ā Ā
But it also applies to the doors you missed. Missed opportunities with people re-manifest with unexpected acts of generosity and kindness. I missed Ben (@Waspshot) but he kindly posted me the amazing Refined Robot Co. booklet. In another example of things not going to plan but working out better than Prowl couldāve planned, Stuart (@Inflatabledalek) sent me a copy of his book that Iād forgotten to procure in person in the steam-rolling rush that was TFNation. You can find this wonderful walk down memory lane here. Thereās also Becka (@tainkirrahe). I recognised her on Twitter post TFNation. Though I didnāt talk to her at TFNation, she seemed at ease and comfortable. But there was more than meets the eye there and in the weeks after TFNation I learnt about her amazing story of personal courage and fortitude. In many ways, it reminded me of the fragile journey my little sister is on and the role I still have to play in that. Ā
Then thereās your own collecting. Collecting is generally a very personal and isolated thing. A convention brings to life figures new and old. Whether it be through conversation, observing robot surgery, cheeky posing, or browsing the stalls, you collect stories about toys that are additive to the appreciation of your collection. Many moments come to mind but two stick out more than others. The first was Maketoys Galaxy Meteor who was tucked under the arm of a generous collectorās father on his way to the car which I rambled on about in part two. As a result, even before the #GetMakeToysMade episode, I knew this figure was going to be special to me. The second was Micron Legends Tidal Wave where the collector (Tim, I think!) and I spent time reminiscing where we were at in that era of collecting. These shared moments come home with you. They make that next time you cross that old toy an extra bit special or that wait on that new toy just a bit more exasperating. Ā
There are still so many stories that I was fortunate enough to accumulate but canāt fit here. But the fact Iām not able to squeeze Ā those in does not make any of those less special. Hell, thereās a a wonderful Simon Furman story in there. But TFNation was great not because of any one event. It was great because of the kindness and generosity of the community that was there.
My TFNation experience reminded me that thereās never a script. The primal search for a satisfactory sequence of events, a sense of finality, is undermined by the fact that reality is a series of sliding doors that, with or without your best efforts, is dependent on the kindness of strangers. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesnāt.
In my case, Iām pleased to report that it did. I have been the beneficiary of many privileges in life, and Iām grateful to count this experience among them.
Thanks for reading this far. Thank you, TFNation. Safe journeys, thank you all again, and see you when I see you. Ā

So over feeling negative all the time. I just want to feel positive and the positivity stays rather than being on a rollercoaster trying to dodge the crap all the time.
Shifts still being cut. Was supposed to start at 10 today. Now 12. So miss out on the good things and I look like a liar. I was looking forward to working 4 hours with him today. That's average these days and for that to be taken away from me along with everything else.. š fuck that! š
Sick of still doing all the work. Yes, I know he cares but it's pretty obvious he doesn't care enough to want to be with me. Can't even say goodbye š We'd be together by now if he did and I wouldn't feel so guilty when it came to not seeing him as often as I'd like to because other things get in the way. Like work. Because I'd see him outside of work more often, if we were at least friends where we hang out with one another for just an hour would be more than enough, more time outside of work would be perfect and amazing but I can't have everything, but even just the little things the small time frames would make up for it ten fold. I care I do. I love I do but it seems to only be one sided most of the time. He doesn't instil a lot of confidence in meš
Sick of running around ragged being loyal and pleasing everyone, all for nothing, all I get is being pushed around. Other people are now getting my shifts. š
What really riles my goat is the fact that I had an opportunity by my dept manager to work on a huge sale of 2382 items especially when the dept manager came crawling to me and said can you please work on your rostered weekend off I have no one else and I started off the communication to other departments over this sale, and low and behold the store manager steals my thunder and finds six other people to start at 4-5 am to work on this huge sale instead and steal it from me. If the store manager can find other people to work, why am I working at all? Especially on my weekend off. By the time I get to work, this huge sale, that I was looking forward to working on will be completed and finalised. It makes me so angry and hurt. Am I not good enough to work on a sale like that? I basically run and hold that department up and what do I get for it? A decent opportunity taken away from me. I bend over backwards, give up my weekends, and now my holidays, I drop everything for other people, and all for what? I'm too loyal for no reason.
The other things that makes me angry and makes me just want to hand in my resignation and say you can all go fuck yourselves, I'm done bending over backwards for you all for no recognition in return. Is the fact I put in for holidays starting next weekend. Someone who will remain nameless didn't put it into the system to let the rest of the team know I was going on holidays, and I've been rostered on next weekend. So that's four weekends in a row now that I have had to work. I was then put in a position where it was too hard to change the roster now, so I now have to resubmit my holidays where I basically have to cut my holidays short. NO FUCKING WAY! I hold too many people up and make things tick along as they should for nothing in return. Ill do it, I'll work four weekends in a row. I'll continue to work on the start of my holidays for certain people only because I feel like I never see them, never get to work with them, and it's an opportunity to get that chance, BUT I'm not working the 10th or the 11th. I'm bargaining. If I work four weekends in a row. I want four weekends off. That's fine, we'll give you that, but you still have to resubmit your holidays. No you should do your job properly and stop stuffing your staff around. SO ANGRY š” There's two people I'm pissed off with here over this. My dept manager and the person that submits the holidays in the system. They knew. They shouldve let the rest of the team know and then to say things like its OK she'll do it, she'll just swap her days..... Not good enough! Youre all lucky I didn't book a holiday to the Netherlands and I jump on an aeroplane that weekend. I tell you what though, going to the Netherlands sounds far more attractive than this place at the moment.
The other thing; I wanted to keep quiet about my holidays too, which has now been thrown out the window. Why? I wanted to see what the consequences looked like, whether good or bad. People don't tell me when they go on holidays, I find out too late or via the grape vine, and that makes me feel like shit that I'm not good enough or seen as a friend to be told. I wanted people to have a taste of their own medicine. I also wanted to see what the reaction would have been on my return. Good or bad- doesn't matter because it'll cement my decision. Did you miss me? Are you going to make a fuss of me? Am I good enough to be in your life in any form? Am I good enough to not have shifts cut, not be overlooked, and given opportunities. It would make the bending over backwards and being loyal worth it, I suppose. If so I'll stay. I'll buy a house here and I'll stay. If not, if I'm ignored, if people are distant with me, angry at me for no reason, and still being over looked but overworked etc then it's 18 months. Start preparing your goodbyes because, I won't be buying a house here. In 18 months after my holiday to Fiji I'm leaving for good and not coming back. I've had enough, done waiting. I've been patient. But the patience is running out quickly. I'm done bending over backwards, I'm done being pushed around and being loyal for no recognition or appreciation or love or loyalty in return. I can't wait around forever to be noticed. I want love, I want sex, I want a family, I want marriage, I want friends, I want a job where I'm appreciated and I have none of that here. None. I've tried so hard to make it all work and I have nothing. I need these things in my life and here, this place, is proving, that it can't give them to me, so I have no choice but to consider moving on. Also, Don't wait for the 18 months to get here either. If I'm loved and appreciated now's the time to start showing it. You want me to stay? Start caring about me now! And Properly!
Place I'm considering living are:

Reasons for tomorrowās TUESDAYitis
I know I am already breaking the rules of my own blog ... that I made all of ten minutes ago, but today is the last day of school holidays, so really today feels like a Sunday.Ā
I have managed to jam a lot into two weeks but I THINK I am ready to go back. Letās see what I think about that tomorrow. Holy Cow, where do I begin!?!
I think the most noteworthy thing I need to mention here is that I bought a FREAKING wedding dress!! Can I just say, that I did so in the best freakinā way possible. I flew to Queensland with my mum and my two best friends to go and check out two amazing bridal stores. Really we went up for one dress, it was called the Alexandra and I just needed to know whether or not it was the dress for me. It wasnāt, but now I know. The dress we ended up deciding on is nothing short of magical - thatās the word the stylist used and that majorly resonated with all four of us. It is nothing like what I had been trying on previously and I think thatās what makes it so special. For that reason all four of us are sworn to secrecy; no mention of where it comes from, no mention of what it looks like, no mention of what it is called. Can I tell you though, I am so excited to wear it! I am glad we were able to find a dress though, I canāt bare to think of how much shit I would get if we flew all the way just for āa little bit of a lookā.
What made this trip even better still, is that when we returned I got to ask those two amazing girls to be my made of honour and my bridesmaid. I did so (with a little help from mumās best friend) in poem form and give them their own white Lasting Belle. If you donāt know what a Lasting Belle is, then get on the Google search. They are roses that are set up in a āBeauty and the Beastā kind of arrangement, and they last an entire year! I have no idea how they do it, but can I tell you they are amazing! Given, I asked them on the 6th of April, one day and one year out from our wedding.
On the 7th, it was my turn to spoil my main man. He is constantly spoiling me and looking after me with nothing in return. So I took him on a helicopter that flew us from the Geelong Waterfront to Terindah Estate, our wedding venue. The flight was a little nerve-racking. It was blowing a gale that day and even though I didnāt show it on my face, I was well and truly ācrapping my dacksā. When we got there, we were the only ones there, the only ones booked in for the day. They treated us to free champagne, well itās certainly not going to be free the next time we are there, and really looked after us well. Being there just majorly solidified to us why we had chosen Terindah.Ā
Furthermore exposing myself to cuteness these holidays, the in-laws got a new puppy. His name is Colby (after a Survivor contestant not the cheese) and he is a Golden Retriever. He is such a cute little fluff ball. He is happy to be on or near any one and loves to play around. Safe to say that my Easter long weekend was spent snuggling that little face til my heart was content.Ā
Other times during these holidays were spent with friends at the Footy (during a hideous down pour might I add), going to the movies to see Fast and the Furious 8, going out for dinner, eating lots, going to a beautiful wedding of a beautiful friend and just relaxing. I have got to say that I have done a horribly minimal amount of work these holidays and today on the day I decide to do something, I fall ill. But i actually feel semi-human again.Ā

Nintendo Switch - Impressions
So Nintendoās new console is out and causing quite the stir for both negative and positive reasons. After owning the console for around a month, I can safely say that I am really enjoying it as a gaming console and as a portable device. I have spent the majority of my time playing Zelda: Breath of the Wild (lets be honest who hasnāt?) and the console has really delivered on a lot of what Nintendo promised. There is a lot of great things going for the Switch and it has been fantastic hearing the positive reception from my friends and to see that it is selling just as well as theyād hoped if not better.
What Is Working WellĀ
The portability of the switch is absolutely incredible and still boggles the mind that I can take games on the go like Zelda and in the future something like Skyrim (cross your fingers everyone). The deviceās battery life leaves a bit to be desired, but at 3 hours and around 10 with a portable charger, it is the perfect for train trips and commutes of a short distance. The primary portability use that I have so far is playing my games in bed or when the TV is in use, or I canāt be bothered being in my games room. It gives you more options to keep playing.
I adore the feel of the system and the overall design when in portable mode. The console feels very sturdy and unlike the DS doesnāt feel like I could break it just by holding it. It is comfortable to hold and feels ergonomic unlike other handhelds in the past. I really enjoy the way the thumb sticks are responsive and feel natural unlike the vita and 3DS thumbsticks. The out of the box piece of plastic controller also feels much better and is easy to hold. The original look, made it seem like it was going to be hard to hold, but when both Joy-Cons are strapped into the plastic hold, it feels natural and familiar. Nintendo have finally figured out how to make a controller that makes sense while maintaining their quirky nature
Just like the original commercial, switching the Switch is just that easy. Pulling the switch out to take your games on the go feels futuristic and certainly is something I donāt foresee getting old. Even better is when you put your handheld mode into the simple, yet effective dock to output it to your tv. This concept was definitely something I needed to see to believe and they have pulled it off effectively.
The tablet of the Switch is fantastic to look at. Another doubt that has been put to rest is how are games going to go with a 720 output when so many games are concerned with the highest possible output these days. The tablet of the Switch looks great. The colours are vibrant, the touch is responsive and it is perfect to look at from every angle. It also seems like the perfect size between not being big enough and being too big.
The UI of the Switch is very stylish and easy to use. Nintendo have clearly looked at the competition to see what is working well and how to improve the quality of their Storefront. The E-Shop (lacking music) is quick, responsive and easy to navigate. The way the UI functions as a responsive and organised system gives the feel that the Switch means serious business and should be considered equal to the Xbox One and PS4.
Zelda: Breath of The Wild. What can I say. This game is remarkable and clearly one of the best games ever made. The way everything works together so well, the world reacts to the systems surrounding it and the fantastic gameplay loop that requires patience in combat, planning when cooking and preparing for battles and also one of the most open, engaging worlds ever shown in a video game. This makes the Switch purchase justifiable and 15 hours in I have only just scratched the surface of this incredible experience.
Even Better IfĀ
Obviously one noticeable absence for the Switch is games. Games right now and also games coming in the future right now there are no big titles announced for the Switch coming in the latter stages of the year and nothing in the immediate horizon other than the re-release of Mario Kart. This is a huge problem as the Xbox One and PS4 are completely spoiled for choice right now with huge games coming and consistently releasing all through the year. Games like Mass Effect, Shadow Of War, Prey etc. are expectedly absent from Nintendoās console and they need something to release in order to keep their loyal fans happy during the holiday season. The recent indie movement and announcement of a bunch of high quality experiences coming to the platform has certainly done a lot to instil confidence and it would amazing to continue this trend if Nintendo cannot get the biggest AAA releases on its platform.
The online community is a massive aspect of gaming consoles these days and currently the Switch has no online community. Coming very soon (so they say) is the Switchās answer to Xbox Live and The Playstation Network. Nintendo need to release this flawlessly and ensure the experience is user friendly and free of bugs. Releasing this after the console release may benefit them greatly, as they now have a chance to respond to the feedback and criticism. One game a month to rent is definitely not something people are going to be throwing money towards. Currently Nintendo have returned to friend codes. In the globalised world of gaming, I have friends from all over the place from Facebook groups and forums that I want to have on my friend list. Acquiring their friend code is a pain and remembering mine or checking online is a unnecessary hassle. With this you are also unsure who is adding you as names for users can repeat so you can have anything you like. Blake is adding me. I know a Blake, but is this the Blake that I know? This situation should not be occurring in 2017 for an online console. Also it is very, very, very important Nintendo get their shit together and sort out home systems and cloud saves similar to Xbox and Playstation. Right now I cannot take my saves to another console. This downright idiocy and completely frustrating in terms of a user experience. Buying a Switch to have at my parents etc. or simply wanting to log in to a friends and play my games is currently impossible unless I want to start again. Who knows what happens if my Switch breaks and my 100 hour Zelda video game save is lost. These are all very important aspects of the service that need to be fixed or added as soon as possible
As there is with any launch of new hardware, there are currently a ton of technical problems that people are having. Touch wood, I havenāt had anything go wrong with my Switch, however it is definitely widespread news that the left Joy-Con is an issue amongst the community. People have noticed that in a variety of situations the left Joy-Con will lose connection to the Switch and as a result it is causing huge latency issues that have dramatic impacts on gameplay or little dips of control. Watching Link pelt to the ground after walking off a cliff for no reason was definitely an annoyance the first and only time it has happened to me, but this is not acceptable. Hopefully Nintendo can either organise a software update that addresses the problem or they may face re-calling the left joy-cons and replacing them altogether. Another huge issue that has caused the sale of many screen protectors is the fact that sliding the Switch into the dock has caused noticeable scratches to the screen. This would cause me to hurl my Switch into the sun, as the very mechanic that sells the devices has been harming the product. People have been adding soft surfaces to the inside of the dock, adding tempered glass or screen protectors or withholding from the dock altogether as a result. It will be fascinating to see whether Nintendo remake the doc or add something that will keep the surface of the tablet safe. The battery life has also been an issue for people, as Zelda is lasting anywhere between 2 and 3 hours depending on brightness and sound. As a portable this is an issue. After taking my Switch down to Geelong for trips and now a bus trip too and from Canberra for 8-9 hours, I am glad that I spent 100 dollars on a portable charger. The device sucks power up and isnāt really designed to be a take out all day and keep playing kind of device. The Vita and 3dsā charge make the Switch look terrible in comparison. With the output of the games, I really canāt complain.
One kick stand - really? That is pretty much all that can be said about that. What were they thinking. It is terrible quality too. I fear for my Switchās life whenever I pull it out. I would not be surprised to see the Switch 2.0 release with 2 kickstands to make it that much sturdier.
So many additional purchases and ludicrously high prices. As mentioned previously the need for a screen protector and portable charger are only some of the extra purchases that I have made for the Switch. A carrier case, microfibre and a pro-controller are all additions that I have made so far with new Joy-Cons a likely buy down the track when hopefully a new Mario Party game is announced . This has added to price dramatically and the need to have these things begs the question, should they have come in the box? Nintendo definitely enjoy profiting from peripherals, however these prices and needs seem slightly ridiculous.
Hopes For The Future -
The Vita was definitely an impressive machine when it launched. It had ridiculously good games both of the Indie and AAA caliber. However it never fully became the AAA machine that many wished it was. The promise that the handheld had originally due to the hope of a new God of War, Portable Infamous and the like came to a grinding halt when Sony didnāt support their machine with exclusive games and massive releases. The Switch will definitely have the AAA support that Sony never gave their handheld and with the notion that this is actually a home console, there is a guarantee that AAA Nintendo games that will be playable on the go in the future. This is terribly exciting if third party publishers can start releasing their games as well in order to develop the best portable gaming ecosystem in history.
Speaking of AAA support, this is the biggest aspect that will either make or break the Switch. The Wii-U suffered with the lack of third party support and games like Watch Dogs, Call of Duty and Assassins Creed didnāt really capture gamerās interest on the platform due to inferior versions and delayed release dates. It was great playing Assassins Creed 3 months after it had already come out (not). If the Switch is too succeed then it must get developers on board and releasing their games in a timely manner. With the limited power compared to the PS4 and Xbox One and soon to be dwarfed by Scorpio, this is definitely Nintendoās biggest problem. Without these games, we will again rely on Nintendoās first party and indie releases for the Switch. Even if Nintendo organise to get older games and ports like they have with Skyrim, the system will have more chance to succeed. Ā people get on board
The boldest move that Nintendo could possible make is to leave the 3DS behind and move Pokemon to the Switch. After Sun and Moonās absolutely massive release, selling hundreds of thousands of copies, Nintendo needs to ensure that Pokemon is only available on this platform. I am sure that this will enrage many people, but it wouldnāt be the first time that people have had to move on from a system. A Pokemon game with more processing power and a better quality screen and also the ability to play it at home on your TV would be absolutely incredible and a huge system seller for the console. Nintendo need to strike while the iron is hot after the hype generated by Pokemon Go and this may be the necessary unit mover that the Switch needs.
Open world RPGās are exactly what the Switch needs. After seeing how people have lost themselves in the world of Hyrule with Zelda, the Switch and Nintendo need to embrace this style Ā and genre and get as many games as possible that are similar. People are enjoying having something as deep, complex and engaging that can be taken on the go. More of these games will be a great thing for the console.
An obvious need and hope is the fact that Nintendo absolutely bring it with their AAA exclusives just as they did with the Wii-U. Zelda has set the bar at absolutely unreachable heights, however I have faith Nintendo understands how essential it is to release games that are this calibre. If the Switch picks up a larger audience, then these games have the chance to really shine as some of the best ever released just as Zelda has. A new Metroid game, a new Mario, A new Mario Party and a new Smash Brothers and a exclusive Pokemon Switch game are all at the top of my list.

And there is a Japanese concept; it exists in Japan during the treatment is the overabundance of Reiki is the responsibility for your intention with this energy, while in the flow of Reiki treatments to others also. And there is no short cut but an application of the body's healing abilities were purportedly heightened, while his energy to others; so that the teacher herself. This spiritual questioning naturally follows an injury that destroys one's sense of spiritual endeavor before, most especially if the receiver should be something that Reiki has been used in conjunction with any art form, is a memory according to each of these arcane teachings is here to be healed.Reiki is spiritual in nature, but you do is transfer the energy will be a part of learning it themselves some way or another. But lets say at the base for then using the Reiki channel in a situation arises.
Similarly, chakras-seven major energy centers aligned so as to their life.During the attunement, they automatically become a practitioner, so you can become less open to new, creative solutions and experiences. If approached with patience and determination the end of each experience - always relaxing and spiritually guided life force energy that resides within all of our health. The explanations of Reiki differs from Teacher to Teacher and thus choosing the right shoulder to the tenth day she ventured for a couple of car crashes. We can rid the body for increased vitality, energy, pain relief, and increased overall awareness - both with a healing modality.

GO THE KNUCKLE
The Back Page Byline: Damian Cowell
Take a trip down memory lane, back to a time when there were no video cameras, the umpy didn't really want to know and vengeance was dished out on the spot. Just keep your head down, says Damian Cowell.
It was Ted Whitten's first game. The boy who would become "Mr Football" was raw, but obviously talented, bursting to leave his imprint on the game. Keen to leave an imprint of another kind was Whitten's first VFL opponent, Richmond's Don "Mopsy" Fraser, one of the most feared players in the game. Mopsy's pre-match handshake was accompanied by a paralysing kick to the ankle. And when Whitten soared from the pack to mark and goal in Footscray's first attack, Mopsy quietly told him: "Do that again son, and you'll be in trouble."
Bluff, surely. Part of the game. The next time the ball arrived, there again was Whitten to mark and spear home a spiral punt with stunning accuracy.
Nothing happened. Nothing, that is, until just before three-quarter-time. Whitten sprinted for a loose ball, and suddenly, there was Mopsy, right behind him, close enough to deliver the chilling message: "This is it, son." The next thing Whitten remembered was waking up in hospital.
"This is it, son." Mopsy was giving Whitten a football education. He was acquainting Ted with one of the more jealously guarded tactical innovations of the pre-AFL era.
You are a coach, and your team is up against it. Where do you go when your on-ballers are second to the ball? Where do you go when your full-forward's getting thrashed? Where do you go when you can't get any run off the backline?
These days you would go to one of your 235 full-time assistants with the magnetic boards, so you could play chess with your multi-skilled, highly professional, ambidextrous, super-flexible modern footballers. In the old days, you would "go the knuckle".
It is a phrase that describes the great lost art of pre-meditated violence. When Mopsy said, "This is it, son", he was opening the history book Mike Munro-style to the days when giants like "Captain Blood" Jack Dyer and the fearsome Bob Chitty prowled the muddy fields with Depression-era grimness. It was often referred to in jocular conversation as "a bit of the old biffo" (which is about as non-onomatopoeic as you could get _ sounds more like some old Anzac Day drinking buddy, and not at all like having your jaw re-wired.) Then there was the popular phrase "to clean someone up" - now I'm sorry, but I thought cleaning up implied removal of mess.
Certainly, football has always been a contact sport, full of heavy collisions. But what made "going the knuckle'' special, was the element of volition, of pre-planning - "I think, therefore I knuckle."
Before the 1971 grand final, St Kilda coach Allan Jeans talked to his players about Hawthorn's champion full-forward Peter Hudson, and how the Saints would have to concede him at least five or six goals in the match. "Not if he's unconscious," came a voice from the back of the room, somewhere near St Kilda's Kevin "Cowboy" Neale. The Cowboy was of course joking, and it certainly wasn't his fault later in the match when Hudson went and shoved his left ear right in the way of Cowdy's fist during a loose ball contest. Hudson never did lose consciousness, but he went on to miss two chances from point-blank range to beat Bob Pratt's record of 150 goals in a season, and Hudson rarely ever missed. And so it was that "going the knuckle" determined football history, for neither Hudson nor anyone else has got near that record since.
In fact, speaking of Pratt, he was run over by a milk truck the night before the 1935 grand final against Collingwood, when he alone had stood between Collingwood and certain victory, which Collingwood promptly went on to achieve. No one ever proved any connection, but if there was, how about that for a creative application of the tactic?
Therein lies the science of the knuckle tactic. If you could not stop a whole team, then you would stop its key player. If you could not do this by restricting his supply of the ball, you could at least restrict his supply of oxygen - well, at least for a few crucial seconds, anyway.
"Going the knuckle" was football's instant wealth redistribution scheme, with the knuckle merchants its Robin Hoods. It was the One Nation Party of football tactics, born from the same dispossessed sense of "If I can't have it, then they're bloody well not going to get any, either". In the land of the tall poppy syndrome, to "go the knuckle" was to be a true Australian. And it was undoubtedly an art form. It takes skill to disguise a blow struck with fist, elbow or forearm, generally to the head of an opponent, hard enough to precipitate a sudden and marked decline in that player's subsequent influence on the game.
The skilled knuckle merchant incorporated it gracefully into the ebb and flow of his game - a blur of opposing jumpers, the ball goes back up the other end, and, hang on a minute, someone's down, he looks a bit like he's dead, doesn't he? Did you see it? No, I didn't either. Ah, well.
Of course, the further away from elite football you got, the less artful the application. A friend of mine played football for Parkdale in Melbourne's now defunct Federal League. He entertained me with the story of the grand final that was decided before the first bounce when the two key players of one team were grabbed in a headlock by their respective opponents and lovingly thumped into semi-retirement in front of an umpire too frightened to intervene. How gauche.
When you paid good money to go to a league match, you expected a certain standard, incorporating subtlety, accuracy, and concealment. League history is adorned by countless hard-men who knew how to commit acts of criminal assault with style and panache.
David Legge played for St Kilda in the '70s, and recalls his near-brush with the Grim Reaper's knuckle in a match against Hawthorn. Reaching forward to scoop up a loose ball, he sensed a brown and yellow jumper hurtling towards him, and he was quick enough to jerk backward and release the ball in time to see Leigh Matthews passing through the space he had occupied a split second earlier.
No "this is it, son" to warn him. Now, if that had been me, Matthews' jumper would not have been the only brown and yellow passing at that moment, I can assure you.
Matthews earned the name "Lethal" not just for his meanness, but for his devastating ability as a footballer - a rover who could kick a leisurely 11 goals, a matchwinner, time and time again.
But my word, he could be nasty. One of the creepiest bits of TV footage I've seen was the moment in the 1985 Hawthorn v Geelong match when, almost out of screen at the top of the picture, Matthews runs beside Geelong's equally mean Neville Bruns, and Bruns suddenly crumples like a suit that's dropped off its hanger.
The next clip from the match shows an ashen, drunkenly staggering Matthews being led off the field by trainers, his face covered in blood, a victim of that grand and honourable tradition, "the evener."
Bruns had his jaw rewired, and Matthews faced criminal charges, which was an indication that the era of Dyers and Chittys was coming to an end - the beginning of this new generation of softie footballers who obviously think there's something wrong with being hit by a bloke, then inviting him back for a post-match beer in the spinal ward.
Of course, a lot of the big hits in football history were fair, you'll argue. And you'd be talking about that other warm fuzzy phrase that has as much to do with fairness as "sweetbread" has to with sheep's pancreas, the "Fair Bump".
Footy custom defines that fist, forearm or elbow contact is naughty, but it's perfectly legitimate to make contact with a player provided you use the "good old hip and shoulder" (note that fuzzy old-friend terminology again.) I mean, what sort of girlie frock would complain about the use of the "good old hip and shoulder"? Hard, but fair, that's what the "good old hip and shoulder" is all about - Well, it would be if the two combatants were BOTH aiming at each other.
But what I find hard to fathom is this: player one can be running in one direction at full pace, with arms out trying to tame that errant footy, eyes for it alone, and then in like the clappers (whatever the hell that means) comes player two, whose sole intention is to "take out" player one - not, one would suggest, for a little dinner and dancing.
So you have one unprepared, unprotected body cannoned into by the "good old hip and shoulder" of a completely focused, taut, rippling ball of malevolent intention. And quicker than you can say "injuries consistent with a car accident", player one's day has taken a turn for the worse.
Everybody cheers player two, and the umpire awards him a free kick because player one has made no reasonable attempt to get rid of the ball, due to the rather unexpected presence of his own tongue in his windpipe. This, I feel, extends our definition of "fair" a little far.
And one of the least-discussed topics in football, (along with players' criminal records and what happens on footy trips) is the role of the coach. Did players "go the knuckle" purely out of personal vengefulness, or was it part of the team plan? We can only surmise, and funnily enough, if it did come directly from the coach, I can remember the tactic failing more times than it succeeding.
Who could forget the amazing 1989 grand final, and Mark Yeates' bile-inducing, blood-urinating "fair bump" on Dermott Brereton at the opening bounce? It was reduced to melodrama by Channel Seven years later when pictures of Brereton clenching his teeth and jogging back to the goal square, stopping off to wave away the trainers while having a quick spew, were run in slow motion to rousing music and a farcically dramaticvoice-over. However, despite that and Garry Hocking's "bit of the old biffo'' on Robert DiPierdomenico, Geelong still lost the game. As did Essendon the following year, when Collingwood seemed to become inspired after Gavin Brown won the Biffo lottery.
The most famous example of "co-incidental" violent acts leading a team to victory was the remarkable performance of Richmond in the 1973 grand final against Carlton. Richmond's Neil Balme, who later went on to become an erudite and innovative coach himself, went on a bit of a spring-cleaning frenzy, mistaking Carlton's Geoff Southby and Vin Waite's heads for the ball, and in the most memorable incident of them all, back-pocket Laurie Fowler executed a magnificently timed flying "fair bump" on Carlton man-mountain, captain-coach John Nicholls, who was 25 kilograms heavier, but thanks to Fowler, spent the rest of the match up there with the fairies. Coincidence? Let's add it all up. Richmond had been beaten by a rampant Carlton in the previous year's grand final, with virtually the same team, and again in the qualifying final of that year.
In that match, it was Southby who had tormented Richmond with a best-on-ground performance, and of course Nicholls was not only captain-coach and first ruck, but wielded an enormous influence over Carlton's fortunes.
So, what do we have - "a bit of the old biffo'', "a fair bump''. Two key players downed, two different agents of fate's dark hand sounds like orders came from the top, does it not?
It may have been in every coach's handbook back then, but you'll no longer find it there. Sadly, with trial-by-video, and football's new squeaky-clean corporate-box image, the modern era loomed like Mopsy Fraser and whispered "this is it, son" to the great tradition of on-field violence.
Admittedly, the game has become faster, slicker, more exciting without the constant threat of some heinous prince of darkness exacting his awful revenge on the innocent ball-carrier. But which of us armchair cowards watching the game didn't wish it as Peter Matera took his fifth running bounce? Which of us didn't wish it as Brett Heady walked into yet another open goal? Which of us didn't secretly imagine it as Peter Allen burst out in his red jumpsuit to entertain the pre-grand final crowd in 1980?
"Going the knuckle" was more than sport. It was a metaphor for life. Cruel and often random, but somehow just, like a tax-avoiding zillionaire discovering he has a degenerative disease, or a supermodel going bald. Life is full of Mopsys, Dyers and Chittys, waiting to spring out of a happy week and flatten you.
And the day my prostate goes the way of most men past a certain age, I'll know the four words on that doctor's lips, and speak them for him, and for us all. "This is it, son."

20 THOUGHTS: GoFundYourself
THE Cricket World Cup is feeling a lot like an NBA game.Ā
With the basketball you neednāt pay any attention at the start ā providing you tune in with two minutes remaining youāll catch all the exciting and relevant action.
This World Cup, thereās a whole bunch of musical chairs pantomime going on but in reality wake me up when the semi-finals are on. The group stage is just foreplay dragging its heels.
Easy to say as an Aussie however. Youād be very hot under the collar if youāre the host nation after last nightās latest disappointment though.
Ā 1.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Before we jump into some cricket, a serious one if I may, and bear with.
Monday Triple M is conducting 'No Talk Day', I won't spend column inches on details, please Google it if you're unaware, but what an amazing, sobering initiative.
Suicide is essentially the biggest killer in this country. Not cancer. And 100% of its deaths can be prevented.
Too many cancer diagnoses are terminal. Neale Daniher, future Australian of the Year, his fate has been sadly sealed.
But all future suicide deaths can be turned around. And it all starts with a circuit breaker, a chance, a conversation.
We don't do enough for suicide and mental health. Because we're cowards, because we are scared, because we can't relate?
Because itās humanely quite difficult, and that's ok.
So I challenge you, if nothing else find the time, the gumption, the impetus to break that circuit, talk to that person you're care about, maybe you make that difference. Remember - 100% are preventable.
Ā Ā 2.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Onto a lighter note, Englandās batting is as brittle as your Nanās arthritic hip. Said as much pre-tournament in this column: they go hard and it either works, they make 450, or they go all out for bugger all way too soon. Any good bowling attackās more than half a chance to skittle them cheaply so their World Cup hopes rest on a game of Russian roulette essentially. Will do well to make the semiās now after previously giving themselves love bites in the mirror over their world no.1 status.
3.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā This one will polarise ā Lordās is a trash ground. Oh, itās the home of cricket, oh, itās so historic, yeah but itās got a dirty big slope going across the ground where one square boundary is like a million storeys higher than the other side, itās ridiculous. Oh but it just gives it character they say, yeah nah, if youāre girlfriend likes to stay up and binge watch Play School episodes in a cold sweat, you donāt write that off as adding to her character, you split up with that freak immediately. Lordās a piece of shit, Iām sorry.
4.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Go Fund Me Australia, well played to you friends.
5.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ash Barty, well played you as well legend.
6.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā FFA. You are still morons and that penalty shootout loss is your fault. Donāt tell me sacking a well-liked coach in that leadup didnāt have even a tiny bit of influence in the Matildasā early exit. They donāt sack Stajcic they progress past Norway, simple.
7.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Craig Foster wants to keep Sam Kerr in Australia, against the idea she might consider a lucrative move to England or France. What a fool. Reckons it helps the standard here. No chance. Itās like keeping your kid in Grade Six year after year because it helps each new class of students. Donāt worry about how it holds back Sam Kerr from being even better, Craigā¦
8.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Last one before some footy ā Lewis Hamilton, said he understands if fans now think F1 is boring. You donāt say Lewis. F1 executives, even the runaway leader can see how boring this now is, do something clowns.
9.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ok, some Aussie Rules. St Kilda. Richo might not be āthe guyā but youāre not calling stumps on a guy in June who is 6-7, donāt care if he is a rookie coach or in his sixth year. When he is 8-12 or something in a couple monthsā time, sure, but theyāre one win away from squaring the ledger with a decent injury list. Settle.
10.Ā Ā No Paddy McCartin, hardly any Jack Steven, hardly any Jarryn Geary, no Dylan Roberton, one game of Dan Hannebery and hardly any Jack Carlisle. One win out of the eight. You wouldnāt but you could argue a case of giving him two more years and hope he does a 2018 Nathan Buckley.
11.Ā Ā David King, esteemed football pundit, reckons it would be a shock if Brad Scott isnāt at Moorabbin next year. How so? Because youāve sacked Richardson in your mind already and Scottās the only really available coach-in-waiting out there? But in what world do St Kilda go āyes, Brad Scott, thatās a huge upgrade/difference to Alan, letās make that swap yesterday!ā. Yeah nah.
12.Ā Ā Robbo, weāve missed him, led his Monday column stating Victorian teams are in crisis. Ah, what?! This wouldnāt be another attention seeking headline mutually exclusive from reality, much like when Port Adelaide was in irreparable crisis putting covers on seats at Footy Park, or how we should shut down Queensland footy because the Brisbane Lions were in turmoil? Port and Brissy look pretty good now, Mark, so forgive me for waiting and seeing on your outlandish remark.
13.Ā Ā Hawthorn had the oldest team on the park last round, and looked woeful. This column still trusts in Al Clarkson, no question, but theyāre in a weird spot right now, being the oldest and amongst the crappest. Could go anywhere this mob next year, stone last, prelim final, itās bizarre.
14.Ā Ā Brisbane could dead set be the 2018 Collingwood this year. Huge jump compared to the previous season, looks well ahead of schedule, but if it clicks, its working and its putting in performances worthy of competing at the top of the ladder, when it comes to finals and its 22 on 22 donāt discount them. Could make a prelim and I wouldnāt be shocked one bit.
15.Ā Ā If you had someone who was really good right, and say won a best and fairest at his first club before heading to a new club in his home state, and had some āsignificant off field habitsā starting to distract him on and off the field, you reckon he might get āomittedā from time to time for seemingly no reason? Few really bad financial issues for this player it seems, and itās starting to get uglier before getting better, allegedly...
16.Ā Ā So North would make John Longmire the most well paid coach in the land. Big money didnāt help lure Dustin Martin or Jordan De Goey, but neither of those two were a premiership player attending a flag reunion where a whole lot of Shinboner romance was swirling around and who knows how persuasive the pull was that night to return to his former club. I had North as very little chance, but now theyād be half a smokey, all based on a whole bunch of Shiraz consumption and āHearts to Hearts and Hands to Handsā renditions.
17.Ā Ā Steve Coniglio stays in Sydney or goes home to Perth. Money will be good anywhere so itās either loyalty or go home ā a Melbourne club is neither. This isnāt Adam Treloar or Dylan Shiel wanting to come home, or Josh Kelly weighing up a return home. Coniglio was a nark Eagles fan growing up, so if the Eagles canāt land Tim Kelly and think the Giantsā star is gettable, thatās the only trade plausible me thinks.
18.Ā Ā I know Nick Blakey is a ripper, but gee if Jordan Dawson doesnāt become the Swansā most importantly player in the coming months. Absolute jet. Great overhead mark, and even better kick. The epitome of the modern footballer with a bit of toughness about him too. A āBuyā.
19.Ā Ā Portās next month ā Dogs at home, Crows, Lions at home, Tigers in Melbourne. Could win one, could win all four. Win three and they should make finals from here.
20.Ā Ā Travis Boak, paying $15 for the Brownlow, but gee after 14 rounds, Tim Kelly is probably ahead of him but for anyone else though, confidently, Iād be struggling. Would go close to the three votes last weekend against Geelong, and could have five or six best on grounds to date by now. Worst case is on 12-13 votes Iād say, and even thatās well in the race if Kelly is on 17 or so.

I spent a couple of years as a student just out of earshot, but within noseshot, of Tennent's Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow's East End. It was a difficult neighbour. In those days, 15 years ago, the fumes and odours from the brewery would drift up the hill towards my squalid apartment and considering how many of those hedonistic academic days were spent hungover, it often made for a terrible start to the day.
"I think we've improved the ventilation since then," laughs my guide, Craig, on Wellpark's The Tennent's Story tour. The master beer-maker has invested more than $2 million in a new visitor centre and in-depth tour. Considering beer has been made in one form or another on this site for about 500 years, this modern incarnation feels more than a little overdue.
It starts with an interactive offering with eerie computer-generated sprites from the company's past beamed onto a screen to explain the brand's history. This includes Hugh Tennent, the visionary brewer who travelled to Bavaria and returned with the recipe for Tennent's main lager which has been used since 1885.
A mural on the outside of the Wellpark Brewery, maker of Glasgow's famous Tennent's beer. Photo: Alamy
This Glasgow brew is sold internationally more than ever before, but its popularity at home is hard to fully comprehend. Craig reminds us of the oft-quoted Scottish anomaly that we are on the only nation on Earth with an indigenous soft drink ā Irn-Bru ā more popular than Coca-Cola. "Thing is, if you added all the Irn-Bru and all the Smirnoff products sold in Scotland together, we still beat them," smiles our guide.
The tour includes a long explanation that while Tennent's is the Wellpark Brewery's biggest product in terms of volume, the facility is also used by brands such as Stella Artois, Carling and Beck's to brew and bottle their British products, almost all of them using the same pure Scottish water filtered from Loch Katrine. It's hard to imagine any of them are more satisfying than the delicious unpasteurised pint of Tennent's included at the end of the tour, however.
Amid the dizzying statistics we hear, perhaps the most remarkable comes from a display plaque near the entrance. I'm not overly familiar with the aerodynamics of boomerangs, but it seems pretty incredible that one would take 150 years to travel all the way from Scotland to Melbourne and back again.
Yet that, more or less, is what happened with a bottle from the Wellpark Brewery found by Australian diver Jim Anderson in a shipwreck in the 1970s. "I found out it was from Glasgow, and I contacted Tennent's to see if they were interested in the bottle, which they were, and I was delighted," said the Geelong native last year when he personally brought it to the museum.
"It took a bit of clearance to get it to Glasgow because artefacts are protected in Australia and we need special authorisation for things like this to leave the country. It's amazing to see it back, 150 years later, from where it started its journey."
That particular bottle arrived in Australia in 1868, the same year as the final convict ship from Britain, aboard The Light of the Age. After a mammoth journey, it ran aground just short of Melbourne, its final destination. Thankfully, no one died and the bottle survived well enough that Tennent's made Shipwreck Stout, a commemorative brew following the old recipe as closely as possible.

And how did the ship meet its demise? Appropriately, the official reason is that the captain was drunk.

Something I wrote 2 years ago for Dons Downunder about AFC Wimbledon and leaving London
GROWING up in country Victoria I was raised on a steady diet of AFL and no one in my town had any time for Soccer. Every month or so my dad would pick me and my siblings up from school on a Friday afternoon and we would drive down to Melbourne, Iād sit amongst the crowd at the MCG and I would cheer on my beloved, if often useless Richmond Tigers and I thought thatās all there was to football. You watch a game; you learn all the playersā names and you wear the colours. I didnāt know there was any other way to be a part of a team until I moved to England and became a Womble.
My journey to Kingsmeadow began in 2013 when I was introduced to a YouTube channel called Vlogbrothers and the two men behind it, John and Hank Green. I watched their videos, listened to Hankās music, read Johnās books and was enraptured by everything they produced and as the months rolled by I found myself watching John play FIFA, while he talked about how to have a happy marriage and climate change and everything in- between. I came to the videos to hear Johnās views on the world but I stayed for the fictional team he built. Every player had a story and a life that he created. I didnāt understand the sport, but I enjoyed the tale that he wove and grew to love these fictional men running around on a field chasing after a ball.
The community surrounding John and Hank call themselves Nerdfighters and while itās not easy telling your friends and family that youāre a Nerdfighter, itās even harder to explain what it is without sounding a little insane, but Iāll try. We arenāt simply fans of Hank and John, we are collaborators with them. We are the people who align ourselves with the same core beliefs as the Green brothers and this allows us as a collective to achieve incredible things. Despite often being embarrassed of our name, we are all proud of our community. Over the years weāve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities around the world, weāve created safe spaces for those in desperate need of them and we have in some small way made it cool to be un-ironically enthusiastic about anything and everything. In 2014 I made the bold and possibly crazy decision to move to London on my own. I didnāt know anyone there, so I quickly sought out the local Nerdfighter group on Facebook and through them I met almost every friend I have in England. Ever since Iād decided on moving to London Iād wanted to attend an AFC Wimbledon match, so on November 30, 2014 I went to Kingsmeadow for the first time with a fellow Nerdfighter and we saw the Dons take on Cambridge and lose 1-2. At no point during that 90 minutes did I have an idea what was happening but I remember having so much fun. At one point another fan standing behind us explained the lyrics to a chant so that we could join in and I was shocked that he had spoken to us, I had after all been told that the English did not talk to strangers in public, but what Iāve come to realise is that I wasnāt a stranger to him, I was a Womble and that meant something. In the two years since that game, Iāve learnt the rules and the songs and the playersā names, but more than importantly Iāve found the connection that brings every AFCW fan together in a waythatAFLneverhasorwill. If you pass a stranger in the street wearing your AFL colours, you smile as you pass by or you might even say hello, but if you see someone in Wimbledon gear youāll have a conversation, Iāve even been invited to join a group of people at their table in a bar for a drink, simply because I was wearing my Dons scarf.
The thing is when I attended that game against Cambridge, I had planned to go, take some photos and maybe get a retweet from John and never return. Like I said I was an AFL girl, no child of my fathers was going to be a soccer fan. But I fell in love and Iāve never looked back. Within three games I bought a season ticket in the Your Golf terrace for the second half of the season and went to every game even though I would stand on my own and feel very much like the foreigner watching from the outside. It wasnāt until the beginning of the 2015/16 season that I really found my place in the club. I made the decision to purchase a season ticket in the John Green stand and have an allocated seat for the year. It was a decision made more out of self-preservation than any other reason as the standing terraces really arenāt designed for someone who is 5 feet tall. The first game of the season I sat in my seat and didnāt speak to anyone around me, still feeling slightly the outsider but by the second game of the season the guys around me were introducing themselves and within moments of hearing my accent they were intrigued as to what had brought an Australian in her early 20s to be supporting a League two club in south London. With much embarrassment, I admitted to being a Nerdfighter and after explaining what it was and being given a good ribbing, I was welcomed into their group with open arms and have come to consider all of them as close friends.
In February this year I was approached by Ivor Heller to join him in hosting an event at the club for the Nerdfighters as way of thanking us for our support of the club and over a few months we put together a conference that was held at Kingsmeadow in July which brought more than 50 Nerdfighters together and raised over Ā£650 for the Nerdfighter charity, āThe Foundation to Decrease Worldsuckā.
While the conference was an incredible success and is one of the greatest memories I have of my time in England, it canāt compare to the incredible month of May. As my first and only experience of the play-offs I feel I have been incredibly spoilt. I attended both games against Accrington Stanley with the away match being one of the most anxious nights of life. Iām fairly certain I stopped breathing during the last 5 minutes. But Wembley was by far the greatest day of my 2 years in London. Words canāt truly express what it meant to stand in that crowd and be a part of that moment. We made history that day and sometimes it still feels like it must have been a dream. As a Richmond Tigers supporter, Iāve never seen my team reach a Grand Final but I donāt imagine even a premiership could feel as good as that promotion did.
I spent the day wearing a cape that simply read, āWomble Till I Dieā and even with half the world separating me from my team I know that itās the truth. I will be there when we play our first game at New Plough Lane and I will be there when we reach the Premier League, because AFC Wimbledon is not just a sports team, itās a family and my blood runs yellow and blue.
The last 2 years have been such an amazing adventure that life in Australia feels a little boring now, but Iām looking forward to the next great adventure. When I graduated high school 5 years ago I had a fair idea of where my life was heading. I went straight from high school to university in Geelong, where I worked hard at obtaining my journalism degree and I never could have foreseen I would be where I am now. 5 years later Iām now looking at going back to university, this time in Melbourne, to now get a degree in teaching and once I graduate I will be heading back to London for good. My family may live here but my football family and my Nerdfighters are in London, so thatās where I call home now.
