From what I’ve seen, they edited the lighting effects to highlight some of the texturing that was already there. Hence, more reflection in the hair and eyes.

They’re weird though, like I notice them way more with my female Ryder than my male one.  They feel kinda arbitrary.

I mean it’s not the worst thing that could happen by far -- I still have my parents to use as a safety net -- but it’s just... making me upset.

When I was talking to various people about why I was afraid to come out, and cited the offensive jokes and in general her attitude towards wlw, a lot of them said “oh it’s just her way of trying to make you come out”

which....... is worse than her being straight up ignorant?  Like what, was she trying to make me upset to the point where I blurted it out at her like we’re on some stupid sitcom?  

She could have used that knowledge to keep her mouth shut and let me come to terms with telling her on my own but of course life can never be that easy when it comes to my mother.

Ugh.

D’awww! *hugs* I had an incredible week of gaming and laughing and watching shows on netflix like the troll hunter cartoon! Miraculous Ladybug Christmas Special Episode. I watched him play Rathced and Clank (so awesome!) and Gears of War 4 (co - op style!) and now he is so much enjoying Final Fantasy 15 he really is in love right now lmao! I love Pokemon Sun! It’s really fun! It’s was an emotional moment with my mom but we did have fun. We did enjoy each other’s company and my sister made it much more fun. Sadly my brother decided to spend new years eve with his friends (we all yelled at him lol) but all in all, I had fun. ^_^

It’s super funny! I laugh everytime. Like when we were hugging after it stroke midnight she was holding me and said “I love you my beautiful and wonderful DJ Fat Chip.” I ruined the moment by laughing! xD It was fun! xD Oh I am very excited too! I had thought long and hard about it. I really like my current user name because Serenity and Garrus are really my favorite characters. I could add my other ones but SerenityxGarrus really just stuck. And my husband came up with it so I didn’t want to loose it. Plus many people call me Serenity and it’s just fab lol xD I love that name. Wish I was named Serenity instead. :D) But my name works fine too... it’s better than what my mom originally wanted to call me... Im so glad she didnt. *shivers* xD

Isla Lavellan

I have been exceedingly lucky to have Isla brought to life so beautifully by these amazing artists. From the top down:

1. Her favourite thing to do when she has free time?

Isla is a ruminator. When she’s not busy with “chores,” like hunting for food stores, or general work for the Inquisition, she’s walking, swimming, dancing, singing, or just sitting wherever the music of her mind takes her.

She loves spending time with her friends. She spends hours playing cards with Varric and Blackwall, and drinking with Sera and Bull. Isla and Dorian will often just sit and read together, or if they’re tired of reading, chatting happily wherever they find each other. She practices melee combat with Cassandra and Cullen to hone her skills, laughing always. Vivienne likes to braid her hair and gossip tamely, and they discuss the circle and other political tidbits. Her time spent with Josephine and Leliana is almost always work-related, but they enjoy themselves nonetheless. Cole finds her from time to time and they enjoy sitting in the sunshine, or the shade.

Don’t worry, I didn’t forget our favorite apostate hobo. Solas is deeply intrigued by her, and he often joins her while she treks through woods and mountains.

2. How did she get her name?

Isla was named by her father, an elven merchant who grew up in Antiva. She has vague memories of him visiting her when she was very young, but he all but disappeared and she hasn’t seen him since her 6th name day.  

Isla, “eye-la,” means Island. She was independent even as a baby, stoic and calm, and her father saw her as an island on her own.

While pretty, it’s not necessarily representative of her disposition. Independent she may be, but she always wished for real affection from her father. 

3. How would she react if there was an impromptu bout of mud wrestling at Skyhold?

Is the bout organized, and two people wrestle at a time? Or are all the hooligans of the Inquisition just playing in the mud?

Either way, she would win all of the wrestling one-on-one’s, and she would love the general play of a whole group thing but at the same time she would be concerned about people getting hurt. Because of this concern, she asks Solas to stand by to assist with any injuries. He might scoff at first, but of course he can’t say no to her and it is a logical request. Plus then he gets to watch her roll around in the mud and he wont admit it but he finds it attractive in a Dalish sort of way. 

4. Would she rather travel or stay at home?

Isla has always been a nomad. She loves traveling and seeing the world. To her, home is where she hangs her scarf.

I’ve been working on how to translate Love Me Tender into Elvhen recently because I like the idea of an Elvhen inquisitor singing it quietly to their love interest. I’ve popped the translation down under the cut, although it’s a bit rough because I’m far from an expert at these sorts of things, and it doesn’t really translate exactly. The translation was done using @fenxshiral ‘s Project Elvhen, and was inspired by this post by @geeky-jez did a while ago where she translated and sang ‘You Are My Sunshine’ in Elvhen.

Carver pinched the bridge of his nose; the elder Miss Hawke knew exactly how to be a pain in his rear end even when she was not present, he could swear.

Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day: Dragon Age Edition

So yesterday was Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day, a day where we as consumers of fan-made content show our appreciation for those that take the time to write stories that extend universes, fill in gaps, and leave us wanting more. And since I am always a slut for good fanfics and making lists, I have put together a collection of my all-time favorite works of fanfiction. I decided to split up the fandoms, because having them all together in one post made Tumblr mad. I also tried to get them all done by the 21st, but the universe conspired against me. So I’ll be posting different lists for different fandoms throughout the week.

Ah, Dragon Age.... Will I ever be able to climb out of the dumpster that is your fandom? Probably not. Quick disclaimer: most of the descriptions for these fics come from an older post of mine on my old blog. I’m just too damn lazy to rewrite everything from scratch.

A much-needed vacation to Seheron leads to several lifestyle changes. Then Zevran shows up… quickly followed by the Grey Wardens. One of the first Dragon Age fics I can remember reading and an excellent read at that.

A recently unpossessed Anders throws himself at the mercy of the Prince of Starkhaven in hopes of a quick death. Sebastian has other plans in mind. Sebanders (Anderastion?) is a pairing I would have never even thought of until this incredible fic.

Lavellan’s daughter often gets into trouble but her wolf protector is always there to save her. One of the first Solavellan fics I read. The ending is bittersweet and gives me all the feels.

Hawke is invited to a fancy shindig and asks Fenris to help her with the finer points of high society. Which would work out, if only they didn’t want to kill each other.

Guide Me Home by Waiting4Morning

When Justice ups and leaves Anders, it leaves the mage with no memories of the past ten years. Now out of options, Hawke must drag the amnesiac mage back to the Wardens before the Templars catch him. This fic is beautiful you guys. If you love Hawke / Anders as much as I do, then this fic is for you!

Set sometime after Trespasser, a non-Inquisitor Lavellan finds a near dead Solas in the woods. Against her better judgment, she takes him back to her clan to care for him. This fic is on-going and is one of my current fave Solavellan fics.

Tell Me What the Wolf Knows by Madame_Snarf

A stifled sob escaped his lips, as he covered his eyes with his palm trying to not to weep. How could this be? What kind of cruel, sick joke was this? She unknowingly called out to him, unwittingly was drawn to him by reason of his being an outcast and then sought comfort in his image, even as a betrayer and trickster.

After the events of Inquisition, Solas finds a nice spot to take a nap. He is surprised to find that the memories the place holds contain a very familiar face. 

The Final Conversation by David Gaider

David Gaider, the former lead writer for Bioware and the writer for Dorian Pavus, recently posted this fanfic (which is pretty much canon fight me) about Dorian having a heart to heart with his estranged and recently deceased father. It’s very moving and because it’s David Freaking Gaider it’s also beautifully written.

Ehem. “The one where Lavellan runs a wildlife rehabilitation place and Solas is a secret magical shape-shifter who gets injured and brought in and falls in love with his rescuer.”
