I guess I’ll give a spoiler warning for this audio just in case.
Spoiler alert for GED Audio’s, Raking Leaves with your English Roommate. Link at the bottom.
So, I listened, well, I’m still listening, just paused it so I could make this post before I forget it, to GED Audio’s latest audio. It’s a standard roommates to lovers confession video, but something happened.
After the confession there is just a pause and he says, “Would it be al l right if I.” And the standard script goes with a kiss, but instead he asked to hold the listener‘s hand. My brain just kind of stopped and I think I blushed. It was completely unexpected and so wholesomely intimate that my cheeks actually got warm. It’s not something generally found in RPs. Usually I love listening to adorable flustered guys, but this time I got flustered by the usually flustered guy! 😳
If you like easily flustered and/or British VAs definitely check out GED! He’s incredibly sweet and adorable!

Reading This Week 2024 #6-8
sits here. i have been behind on this.... once again... i think i just have to accept that i do these when i do these.
Finished Week 6 (Feb 4-10):
Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift (skimmed/read the spark notes for class discussion, won't be reading more)
Undoing Gender by Judith Butler (read Chapter 6 "Longing for Recognition", currently won't be reading more)
The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin, narrated by Rob Inglis (started the same week, audio book was lots of fun)
i love Tenar...... i think it's really cool that the way the Earthsea books are working is that even tho Ged is a reocurring character, we get a new child perspective for each one
Orange, Vol. 4 by Ichigo Takano, translated by Amber Tamosaitis (started same week)
truly TRULY the love triangle/rivals in this are so primed to be read polyamorously it had driven me crazy. just form a triad, you all like each other
about 10 other smaller things (articles, short stories, excerpts) that i shall not be naming individually bc this post is already too long
Finished Week 7 (Feb 11-17):
Burnt Shadows by Kamila Shamsie (started in Week 6)
this book flips is like reading a multigenerational family drama with each section involving the slowly growing tension of knowing what horrific historical event/conditions they are about to live through
Venus by Susan-Lori Parks (started same week)
The Way of the House Husband by Kousuke Oono, translated by Amanda Haley (started same week)
“Experiential Gender” in Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity by Julia Serano
“Black (W)holes and The Geometry of Black Female Sexuality” by Evelynn Hammonds
"Unsexed: A Zero Concept for Gender Studies" by Kath Weston
"Of Catamites and Kings: Reflections on Butch, Gender, and Boundaries" by Gayle Rubin (these four i read for a class that i lead the discussion four so while they fall under the category of articles i'm not mentioning right now, i felt they should be included for that reason)
a shit ton of student papers
6 smaller things (articles and abandoned books that i'm skipping for same reason as above)
Finished Week 8 (Feb 18-24):
Story of a Brief Marriage by Anuk Arudpragasam (started same week)
very in-depth descriptions of bowel movements in this
Orange, Vol. 5 by Ichigo Takano, translated by Amber Tamosaitis (started same week)
so cute! once again i am advocating for them to just form a poly triad
He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan (started ages and ages ago...)
you've already seen my frantic reblog spam about this. i'm glad i finally finished reading this. the quarter 3 of it was kind a low point but i think it really captured me again by the end (however, i think the like... FINAL two pages are really scream "remember! that this is technically inspired by some real history!" in a way i found unneccesary and kinda too me out of the satisfaction of the end). i think the ending worked for me because Ma was really underused (i know it would have made the book kinda bloated but i would have loved a chapter or two of her perspective holding down the fort and dealing with internal politics while Zhu was away doing war things....), so her role in the finale was what really solidified it for me. this book drove me crazy in a great way, i think so many people should read She Who Became the Sun and then this sequel
Witch Hat Atelier, Vol. 11 by Kamome Shirahama, translated by Stephen Kohler (started same week)
the panelling in this manga is simply so fucking good. read this. its so cute
Orange, Vol. 6: Future by Ichigo Takano, translated by Amber Tamosaitis (started same week)
i don't think this volume was necessary lol... i did not need to know how Suwa and Naho got together in the future where Kakeru died, it was better as implications
Ongoing Reads:
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree (read another chapter)
i am so sorry to my girlfriend who has to deal with me complaining about this book i am reading to her after every chapter... i am glad she is enjoying it regardless
The Farther Shore by Ursula K. Le Guin, narrated by Rob Inglis (about halfway through)
The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien (basically read the preface material so far)

Percy Jackson headcanons, because the brainrot has returned for its revenge.
“That’s not canon!”
To you. I know him personally.
Arospec pan, asexual
Agender, goes by xe/they/it/she/he pronouns
Sally is in some way descended from Phoebe. She has vaguely prophetic dreams, scarily good instincts, and clear sight
This is why Percy is so unsettlingly accurate when it comes to dreams and subconscious predictions/instinct
They’re an ISFP
Percy and Sally are Puertorican-Brazilian, xe’s been trilingual since a child, though it took some time to separate the three, since they were spoken in tandem around the house when xe was little.
Before Gabe, the apartment complex they lived in had an old Mexican lady next door to them, who mostly spoke Spanish. Her name was Aitana, but Percy and Sally always called her abuela Aitana. Percy was quiet around her at first, but then she asked then about their hyperfixation at the time (poisonous plants), and they were off.
They lost contact with her after Sally married Gabe and they moved, but a little after Gabe ‘disappeared’ they went to try and find her at their old address. She was thankfully still there, hugged them both, and they caught up. Now she babysits Estelle and gets invited over for meals.
Sally’s dad was Brazilian, her mom Peurto Rican. Her dad had an older brother already in New York, who was the uncle that raised her.
Percy loves rain and the ocean, and rainy days at the beach. Though sometimes the ocean loses its appeal since, yk, greek myths and stuff
Smells like rain and a breeze coming off the waves. Like the actual real thing that no man made scent can replicate.
Got xeir GED during xeir junior year. Xe’s gone on many a rant to xeir mom about how fucked the school system is, since xe would have taken at least two more years to graduate if xe stuck with the system and instead graduated early! (“That contradicts ca-” *gunshot*)
Struggled with classes and school and homework, but blew through tests like nobody’s business (once they got them in audio format).
Thinks better when pacing, sometimes energetically.
Snaps their fingers next to their ears as a stim
Drumming on things, stomping, chewing, and messing with one of his homemade flour stress balls are some of its stims.
Loves Glass Animals, partly because their stuff slaps, partly because ✨audio stims✨
Lots of vocal stims/echoing things that sound cool
The biggest sensory issue xe has is smell, and just below that sound. There are scents of certain candles, or foods, that xe just can’t stand, and there are some days where everybody’s voices just grate on xeir nerves.
5’8” at best, because it’s funny.
really elaborate doodler
draws on their arms
loves foggy mornings, and is an early morning person
Definitely works with kids in the future, maybe teaches kindergarteners (specifically kids with disabilities)
Am I projecting a lot of my own neurodivergence onto him? Yes. Am I also throwing some of my saltiness at the American education system in there? Also yes. Can any of you fuckers stop me? FUCK no.

Audio
(Audio belongs to WOE.BEGONE Industries LLC)
Transcript:
Chris, Ryan - Mike Walters. He’s the new guy,” Hunter said. “Nice to meet you,” they said almost in unison. Aaaand this is awkward. Sorry guys, we already have a Chris and Ryan on WOE.BEGONE. These were not they. Clearly, the writers of reality did not take into account the fact that putting more people in my life with these exact names would make it harder to tell my life story in the form of a podcast? They didn’t say their last names either, and I didn’t ask because that would be a weird thing to do. So I’m gonna call ‘em... Blorpo and Donder. I really hope they don’t become important enough that I regret that decision.
[cut]
“Personally it was to get away from my old friends,” Donder said. “That means drugs,” Blorpo said. “Yeah, basically. Nothing too hard but the whole situation was making me live wrong and it was starting to make me really unhealthy. I’m getting too old to live like I did when I was 25,” Donder said. Blorpo didn’t tell his story, which means it was either too boring or too dark for the conversation. “Do you like it here so far, Mike?” Blorpo asked.
[cut]
“This asshole got a golf cart on his first day. I don’t know why.” Donder pointed his thumb at Blorpo. “Because I was a game warden for two years before I came out here!” Blorpo said. “Not all of us get here fresh off a GED.” “No need to get all testy, Blorpo,” Donder said and took-Okay, I-I, I already hate this. It was funny but I’m already tired of saying Blorpo. What if he’s Flinch and I have to keep saying Blorpo for like 10 more seasons? [mockingly] “I like the show but one of the characters is named Blorpo and I just can’t take it seriously anymore! Two stars!” I don’t know what that voice was. How about... Chance and Shadow. Chris is Chance is Blorpo and Ryan is Donder is Shadow.

wynnyfryd:

Gorgeousgreymatter:
...Eddie's dm voice is suspiciously the exact same voice he has after he deep throats Steve and now Steve cannot unknow this he can never drive Dustin to dnd again
rainbownerds:

lettersinthesand:

Buff Muggin:
Steve rolls 2 nat ones and Eddie is just like “…that’s 1 in 400 odds, what the fuck? Uh… you have… an ability that lets you reroll ones. Go again.”
Nix [Resident Eddie Kinnie]:
LMAOOO
Gorgeousgreymatter:

NAME: Simon Kelly Tolch
NICKNAMES: Si
FACE CLAIM: Skyler Gisondo
AGE: 26 (November 3)
SPECIES: Hybrid: Were/Human
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Questioning ; He/Him
SEXUALITY: Queer
ALLEGIANCE: Dissenter
OCCUPATION: Recording/Audio Engineer ; Podcast Producer/Editor
SCARS: Various ones here and there from just life
TRAITS: Sharp ; Loyal ; Sociable ; High Strung ; Indecisive ; Tactless
Last Season on Faerune:
Simon’s mother had only been fifteen when she found out she was pregnant with him, something that she wound up being kicked out of her home for. She bounced around here and there, until finally a friend’s parents decided to take her in so she could at least have the opportunity to finish school. She wound up dropping out when Simon was two, and later going on to earn her GED.
From the time Simon was three he and his mother lived in a trailer park just outside of Faerune while she worked two jobs inside of the city. One as a waitress at the diner and another as a dancer at the Shrinking Violet. This usually meant that if Simon wasn’t at school he was hanging at the diner in a corner booth, being watched by someone else in the trailer park, or simply being left alone at night til his mother got home.
When Simon was 8 his mother died from a severe lung infection that had started out as ‘just a cough’ with no money to see a doctor; it quickly had gotten worse and within a short period of time she’d passed. He was taken and placed into the system, going to two foster homes before finally landing in the home of Yvette and Nora Cavazos at the age of 10. The two women fully adopted him at 11, allowing him to keep his birth mother’s last name.
Both Yvette and Nora came from families that had been in the feywild even before the battle that had destroyed the Seelie Court, and had come from generations of wealth accumulated over the years after the construction of Faerune. In other words, they were old money. Having been born into near poverty and suddenly being thrust into the world of the extremely wealthy was a major shock, even for someone his age. Over time he was able to adjust in most ways, but still never fully felt like he belonged in either world.
The second, and perhaps even bigger change, came when Simon was around 12, and while experiencing those natural changes of puberty, he also shifted for the first time. This was something that came as a shock to both him and his adoptive mothers, as his mother had been human, and a father had never been listed on his birth certificate.
After some research over the next year-ish, Simon was able to find a name that matched, one of a few guys she’d slept with around the same time at some parties or after games in high school, and the only one that was mentioned to be a werewolf. He went in search of him, coming across someone with the same last name and thinking maybe he might be able to help him. It was through Lucas that Simon learned who his father was, and that the man had died years ago. Even though he would never get to meet his father, he now had an uncle that could tell him about him, as well as help him navigate the whole werewolf thing.
At 16, Nora was diagnosed with cancer, and after almost a year went into remission. Unfortunately, it came back and this time she lost the battle, passing away on the day of Simon’s high school graduation.
After graduating, Simon attended the university getting a degree in Audio Production and Engineering, and turning what used to be a garden shed in the backyard into a recording studio. Partially for himself, but mainly for other artists in Faerune to come and record at.
At 23, tragedy struck again, this time when Yvette was coming home from a holiday charity event, and her car wound up wrapped around a pole during an accident caused by an icy road.
Once the son of a teenage drop out with no family and little money to their name, Simon was now the heir of two of the wealthiest families in Faerune.
This Season on Faerune:
Simon is strongly against the takeover by the Unseelie Queen, while he can understand that this isn't a black and white issue, he also sees the dangers of an authoritative government that looks down on other species or groups of people because they are different from their own. Sure, she hasn't kicked them out or started rounding them up, but she's keeping them trapped and already establishing things like curfews and restricting any speech that is anti-her rule. If it wouldn't result in his death or 'mysterious disappearance' Simon would very much be vocalizing his feelings in public.
His feelings about the Unseelie rule is what caused things to go bad between him and Lacy Hauser, the other accusing him of never actually caring about her, and not caring that she and Colton were now safe from their father with the dome up. This of course isn't true, but Simon can't just think about one person's feelings, even if he cares about them, over the thousands who are also affected, many of whom are also people that he cares about. Despite how things ended he does still care about her and misses her, though he avoids her as much as possible, believing wholeheartedly that she hates him.

Waiting for Godot - Broadway - November 24, 2013 (Opening Night) (Lanelle's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Aidan Gemme (The Boy), Billy Crudup (Lucky), Ian McKellen (Estragon), Patrick Stewart (Vladimir), Shuler Hensley (Pozzo)
War Horse - West End - February 27, 2014 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  MKV (HD) CAST: Sion Daniel Young (Albert Narracott), Josie Walker (Rose Narracott), Alistair Brammer (Billy Narracott), Alex Avery (Captain Nicholls), Steve North (Ted Narracott), Tom Hodgkins (Arthur Narracott) NOTES: Multi-cam pro-shot broadcast live to cinemas as part of National Theatre Live, Includes interval interview and documentary.
War Paint - Broadway - March 11, 2017 (Preview) (SunsetBlvd79's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (SD) CAST: Patti LuPone (Helena Rubinstein), Christine Ebersole (Elizabeth Arden), John Dossett (Tommy Lewis), Douglas Sills (Harry Fleming) NOTES: Beautiful HD capture of the Broadway transfer. Some changes for Broadway from the previous Goodman Theater production. Excellent performances from the entire cast with clear picture and great sound throughout; very good video. 2 DVDs. A War Paint - Broadway - April 29, 2017 (Matinee) (NYCG8R's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Patti LuPone (Helena Rubinstein), Christine Ebersole (Elizabeth Arden), John Dossett (Tommy Lewis), Douglas Sills (Harry Fleming) NOTES: The master gets caught during Face to Face. You can hear someone say “TURN IT OFF”. Blackout during that part. Wasted - Southwark Playhouse - 2018 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Matthew Jacobs Morgan (Branwell Brontë), Molly Lynch (Anne Brontë), Natasha Barnes (Charlotte Brontë), Siobhan Athwal (Emily Brontë) We Are The Tigers - Off-Broadway - March, 2019 (StarCuffedJeans's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Lauren Zakrin (Riley Williams), Wonu Ogunfowora (Cairo), Jenny Rose Baker (Kate Dalton), MiMi Scardulla (Reese), Kaitlyn Frank (Annleigh), Cathy Ang (Mattie Wheeler), Celeste Rose (Chess), Zoe Jensen (Farrah), Sydney Parra (Eva Sanchez), Louis Griffin (Clark) NOTES: Starts at the beginning of "I Just Wanna" and missing part of "Mattie's Lament." The theater was really full tonight so there are a good number of heads in this video, but they are worked around to the best of my ability. This is a super small theater (less than 160 seats) and at times the cast members were definitely singing to the camera and honestly giving their best performances because of it. All of the things on the upper level (the bathroom, the pathway, and the kitchen) are captured perfectly, and the zooms on the lower level (the living room and bench) look good as well. Obviously because this is a murder mystery kind of show the lighting can get a little bit dark, but my camera handles low lighting incredibly well. This is honestly the best video you could expect from this venue We Will Rock You - Germany (Cologne) - August, 2005 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Alex Melcher (Galileo), Vera Bolten (Scaramouche), Brigitte Oelke (Killer Queen), Martin Berger (Khashoggi), Michaela Kovarikova (Meat/Oz), DMJ (Brit/J.B.), James Sbano (Pop/Buddy/Bap), Harald Tauber (Teacher), Willemijn Verkaik NOTES: Multicam proshot We Will Rock You - Utrecht (The Netherlands) - October, 2010 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: John Vooijs (Galileo), Marjolein Teepen (Scaramouche), Pia Douwes (Killer Queen), Paul Donkers (Khashoggi), Floortje Smit (Meat/Oz), Ruud van Overdijk (Brit/J.B.), Rutger le Poole (Pop/Buddy/Bap) NOTES: Good capture. Heads in the way, but also a lot of good close-ups. Dubble DVD! We Will Rock You - West End - February 11, 2003 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Tony Vincent (Galileo), Hannah Jane Fox (Scaramouche), Sharon D Clarke (Killer Queen), Alexander Hanson (Khashoggi), Kerry Ellis (Meat/Oz), Nigel Clauzner (Brit/J.B.), Nigel Planer (Pop/Buddy/Bap) The Wedding Singer - Broadway - April 1, 2006 (Preview) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Stephen Lynch (Robbie Hart), Laura Benanti (Julia), Matthew Saldivar (Sammy), Kevin Cahoon (George), Rita Gardner (Rosie), Amy Spanger (Holly), Richard H Blake (Glen), Felicia Finley (Linda) NOTES: Includes pictures of outside of the theatre and playbill. This was before the changes were made to the production. Blackouts throughout the show. The Wedding Singer - Off-West End - March 1, 2020 (Matinee) (Closing Night) (Highlights) (queenofthedead's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Kevin Clifton (Robbie Hart), Rhiannon Chesterman (Julia), Ashley Emmerson (Sammy), Andrew Carthy (George), Sandra Dickinson (Rosie), Tara Verloop (Holly), Jonny Fines (Glen), Erin Bell (Linda), Lori Haley Fox (Angie), Andy Brady (David Fonda), Nathan Ryles (Harold Fonda), Jordan Crouch (Donnie), Aimee Moore (Tiffany), Simon Anthony (Shane McDonough), Paris Green (Donatella), Vanessa Grace Lee (Donatella’s Mother), Morgan Jackson (Mookie), Ellie Seaton (Crystal) NOTES: 38 minutes of act 1 of the closing performance, unobstructed. Welcome To The Club - Broadway - April 8, 1989 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Avery Schreiber (Milton), Bill Buell (Gus), Jodi Benson (Betty), Marcia Mitzman (Carol), Marilyn Sokol (Arlene), Sally Mayes (Winona), Samuel E Wright (Bruce), Scott Waara (Kevin), Scott Wentworth (Aaron), Terri White (Eve) NOTES: Filmed during previews. Well filmed from the balcony. Mostly a full stage shot. Some generational loss. Wenn Rosenblätter Fallen - Oberhausen - June 13, 2016 (Rumpel's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Pia Douwes (Rose), Anton Zetterholm (Till), Annemieke van Dam (Iris)
West Side Story - Hollywood Bowl - July 19, 2016 (SJ Bernly's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Jeremy Jordan (Tony), Solea Pfeiffer (Maria), Karen Olivo (Anita), Matthew James Thomas (Riff), George Akram (Bernardo), Drew Foster (Action), Jose Moreno Brooks (Chino), Anthony C Chatmon II (A-Rab), Kyle Selig (Baby John), Mike Schwitter (Big Deal), Jeff Smith (Diesel), Kevin Chamberlin (Krupke), Jennifer Sanchez (Rosalia), Erica Dorfler (Consuela) NOTES: This concert version of the show is abridged with shortened scenes, simple costumes, and no sets or choreography, but Jeremy, Solea, and Karen are absolutely phenomenal with soaring vocals and emotional performances. Very well captured with no dropouts, no obstruction, and no washout. The stage is filmed directly most of the time; the screens are occasionally filmed, usually when the actors are not onstage. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. Includes curtain call and playbill scans. West Side Story - Leicester Curve - December, 2019 (queenofthedead's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Jamie Muscato (Tony), Adriana Ivelisse (Maria), Carly Mercedes Dyer (Anita), Ronan Burns (Riff), Jonathan Hermosa-Lopez (Bernardo), Isaac Gryn (Action), Damian Buhagiar (Chino), Ryan Anderson (A-Rab), Alex Christian (Baby John), Dale White (Big Deal), Michael O’Reilly (Diesel), Beth Hinton-Lever (Anybodys), Darren Bennett (Lt. — Nevermore (Supernatural #1), by Keith R. A. DeCandido
so I’m pretty sure decandido is writing more along the lines of a too-cool-for-school dean rather than a secret-english-major dean. which of course is incorrect.
it’s canonical that dean reads—widely—so the simpsons comment actually makes more sense if you read it as dean trying to throw sam off the scent. deflecting. take the focus off of him. this is dean’s typical self-deprecating behavior.
dean = dumb:
you gotta remember that dean grew up in a “household” that didn’t prioritize his needs, let alone his education. his job was to babysit, bodyguard, and follow orders. so dean likely has a lot of internalized feelings about his intelligence. he constantly refers to sam and john as geniuses.
I did some math and if dean had stayed in school he would’ve graduated at 17 in the spring of 1997. which means he got his GED sometime between then and when we first meet him in the pilot, 8 yrs later. it takes, on average, 3 months to get your GED.
but I can’t imagine dean having that much downtime between hunts. but I can imagine him finding one of those GED textbooks—probably at a thrift store while shopping for flannel—and carrying it around in his duffel for...a year? reading it on motel beds, his practice tests mixed in with pages of lore. or while driving, an audio cassette version playing in place of music.
dean never does any of this when john is around. he’d tell him he’s wasting his time. what do you think you’re sammy or something? focus on the job. dean is a tool. a blunt instrument of destruction. you don’t need book learning or a GED for that.
sam = smart:
in phantom traveler (spn 1x04) we learn that, away from his sons, john actually brags about sam going stanford. he knows that normal non-hunting people would see that as an accomplishment. bragging is playing the proud dad card. just a normal guy, who’s more than happy to help you with your pesky ghost problem.
it also smacks a little of jealousy to me. john knows sam’s smarter than him (likely dean too) and we’ve seen plenty of instances where he’s withheld knowledge from them. as a means of control, yes, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s just to be petty as well. father/author/god and all that.
but it also occurs to me that sam was probably their researcher from the get-go. holed up in the motel of the week, waiting for john and dean to return from a hunt, with nothing else to do but click around the internet on his second-hand laptop.
and maybe dean calls him. from payphones and later burner cells. it’s to check in but he says it’s for directions or to confirm information. and sam wants to help. and he also finds that he enjoys the research. it’s a hunt of it’s own—but without the visera. and the payoff is being able to contradict john.
by the time sam’s old enough to really hunt, full time, he’s already cemented himself as the winchester researcher. and it works. sam’s the database, dean is the soldier, john the general.
all this to say, I think dean is lying about “eddie albert poe.” in their line of work authors like poe—an iconic purveyor of supernatural tales—is likely part of their day-to-day lore.
and since poe is taught in a lot of US high schools, he’s definitely going to be on the GED. so I don’t buy that dean hasn’t read “the raven” or “the tell-tale heart” or “lenore.” not for a second.
