Free Electric Bikes are a Thing. Maybe. I just wrote an article on GearLab arguing that if you factor in the costs of a car and you replace your car miles with an electric bike, buying is essentially free. Well sorta. You can read more in my story Free Electric Bike? Why a $1500 eBike is Practically Free - One of my goals in life is to get more people on bikes. Why? There are a lot of reasons, but mainly it just makes it a lot more fun to get around. And it is a great for of "accidental exercise."

"Google literally has one job: to detect this kind of thing and crush it. The deal we made with Google was, "You monopolize search and use your monopoly rents to ensure that we never, ever try another search engine. In return, you will somehow distinguish between low-effort, useless nonsense and good information. You promised us that if you got to be the unelected, permanent overlord of all information access, you would 'organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.'"
They broke the deal.
Companies like CNET used to do real, rigorous product reviews. As Housefresh points out, CNET once bought an entire smart home and used it to test products. Then Red Ventures bought CNET and bet that they could sell the house, switch to vibes-based reviewing, and that Google wouldn't even notice. They were right.
...
Google downranks sites that spend money and time on reviews like Housefresh and GearLab, and crams botshittened content mills like BH&G into our eyeballs instead.
In 1558, Thomas Gresham coined (ahem) Gresham's Law: "Bad money drives out good." When counterfeit money circulates in the economy, anyone who gets a dodgy coin spends it as quickly as they can, because the longer you hold it, the greater the likelihood that someone will detect the fraud and the coin will become worthless. Run this system long enough and all the money in circulation is funny money.
An internet run by Google has its own Gresham's Law: bad sites drive out good. It's not just that BH&G can "test" products at a fraction of the cost of Housefresh – through the simple expedient of doing inadequate tests or no tests at all – so they can put a lot more content up that Housefresh. But that alone wouldn't let them drive Housefresh off the front page of Google's search results. For that, BH&G has to mobilize some of their savings from the no test/bad test lab to do real rigorous science: science in defeating Google's security-through-obscurity system, which lets them command the front page despite publishing worse-than-useless nonsense.
Google has lost the spam wars."

The best tents for camping to buy in 2023, according to reviews
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kickoff to camping season is coming up and you may be considering a new tent to start your adventures.
Whether you are a seasoned camper or just a novice, a tent is a essential for an overnight trip. These camping tents come in an array of sizes and materials to provide protection against the elements and place to sleep in the outdoors.
However, there are a ton of tents on the market, making it a real challenge to choose one.
To help narrow down your decision, these are some of the most recommended tents you can buy, including models from Coleman and The North Face.
The North Face Wawona 6 Tent:“The roomy interior has plenty of standing height, easily sleeps a family of 4 and two dogs, and has an adequate number of pockets for storage and organization,” GearLab says.
MSR Habitude 6 Tent: “Setup is a breeze, utilizing a hubbed pole design and color-coded clips (no pole sleeves to fuss with) to erect the 83 square feet of sleeping space,” GearJunkie says.
Mobihome 6-Person Tent: “This spacious tent is great for families or small groups, and with a few fast steps utilizing the “special hub system,” you’re ready to roll at your campsite. In fact, one adult can successfully set it up on their own,” Travel + Leisure says.
Coleman Skydome Tent: “It’s relatively simple to set up, it’s got a spacious interior, and it’s affordable,” Outdoor Life says.
Eureka Copper Canyon LX 4 Tent: “This big, boxy tent has nearly vertical walls and reaches seven feet at its peak, so we could stand up, walk around, arrange our gear, and change clothes without bumping into the walls or ceiling,” Popular Mechanics says.

Shoutout to @sillynightmarearbiter for the idea for this
So you’ve picked (back possibly) up Azur Lane, I get it, pngs are cute, it’s a generous gacha and the gameplay is refreshing for the usual turnbased gachas, it’s a home run in every way shape and form- You’re in deep (or at least you wanna try and be) but there’s one small issue, everyone is telling you BiS (best in slot) gear that takes OpSi or Research to get, research takes months and you need BiS gear to farm OpSi in any way that doesn’t take decades so what gives? Must you slog and suffer in the mines? Oomfie im here to tell you that 90% of people in this game who give decent advice have also been playing this game forever, the low level scene is alien to them- but fear not! Your beloved oomfie Smugg will pass you the deets on how to gear up your pngs like a pro without having to spend a decade looking up cheap strats, gimme a couple paragraphs of your time and you’ll be c6ing and meta 15ing in no time at all
Let’s start with a bit of a preface, this will take grinding- a lot of grinding, 10s of thousands of oil of grinding, the road to heaven is paved with violence but- rejoice, unlike old AL you no longer have to do it yourself! If you’re doing something that you can leave your phone on and press a button every once in a while by all means do it! I grind during viddy gaems, while I’m cleaning, anytime I’m not actively using my phone (which isn’t all that often ngl but) I’m always on the grind- you don’t need to go crazy and stupid like me but you get the idea. Enough cock rating, time for a taste test
Chapter one- baldi’s basics
I’m sure you’ve noticed certain ships share certain slots, every ship has Auxiliaries (shortened to auxs), Most ships have Main guns (shortened to mg), most Vanguard (vg) have torpedos (torps), and a whoooole lot have Anti Air guns (AA), Carriers (and light carriers) have Dive Bomber (DB), Torp Bombers (TB) and Fighters (don’t shorten this one idk why), a few of these share a BiS (remember best in slot, this one will be said a lot) so we’re gonna go over shared first
Torpedos :) -
Torps are classified in two different ways, either you’re willing to manual (control your funny little kansen) or you’re not (auto)- I will tell you now, top level play of this game is auto mostly, with a bit of manual for the hardest stuff you can find, don’t get caught up on the silly stuff, both are challenging in their own right if you know what you’re doing- For auto torps you’re going to want mags (magnetic), and I’m sure you’ve all heard the name Quintmags
Tumblr media
the crème de la crem, but tragically they’re locked behind gear lab, which takes OpSi, which takes good gear. I’m sure I know what you’re all thinking “oomfie if quintmags are the best don’t we just rarity down, the gold mags are easy to get” I like where your going with this but hold your horses, rainbow quintmags have much better tracking then their gold cousins, what you’re gonna want are gold quadmags
Tumblr media
They’ve got one less torp but are waaaay more likely to hit because they have a much more favorable spread (the angle at which they fire, will be used with a lot of weapons), best part? You can get them from IB tech boxes (and divergent chessboard warchives d1 if you’re really fiending), try and get as many of these as you can because these are your best friends till you get your quintmag. Now for manual; when you manual there are two types of ways to play torps, either you play passively and try to hit as many torps as you can if your boats aren’t particularly torpedo inclined, or you do a strategy called “face torping” where you find some good ships with excellent torp (shimakaze, ayanami, noshiro, jintsuu, Duca, naganami etc) and hood your torps till you’ve got them all saved up, wait for skills to proc if you need them (like helena or ayayas for example), then run up on the boss and nuke the fuck out of them, for passive play style the 533 is only outclassed by its gearlab counterparts
Tumblr media
While for face torping 610 quads (or quints if you played during shimmy event) are the way to go

Ok so this is a post I’ve been excited to share for a while. This is my new @gearlaboutdoors Kalleq and quite simply it’s the best paddle I’ve ever used....and I’ve used a lot of different paddles over the years. I’d heard a lot of good reviews on Gearlab products and finally took the plunge last xmas. Greenland style blades have many advantages compared to the more traditional euro style blade you will no doubt be familiar with and these inc: much less stress on shoulders/wrists, almost silent in the water, in my opinion superior power delivery, far more versatile, more comfortable for all day paddling and generally a more satisfying tool for kayaking. The kalleq is a work of art and the craftsmanship feels similar to the time & energy that would go into something like a samurai sword. It really feels like you have to earn its respect and with every paddle stroke you grow in confidence and it is a hugely rewarding experience. Moreover, after horrendous RSI in my wrist from last years paddling the effortless glide of the Kalleq in the water has been extremely gentle ( the ergonomics are amazing ) yet offers unparalleled power delivery. The ability to both back off and use just a little surface area to explore the shoreline or the opportunity to dig deep and utilise the entire blade for covering vast distances of open water is just superb. I used this paddle most days in the Arctic and so far I simply cannot fault it. The paddles are tailored to your size so head over to @gearlaboutdoors and check out their latest range of paddles & gear to learn more about this awesome company. A full review will be featured on my website soon #gearlabpaddles https://www.instagram.com/p/B-zdnywgQoT/?igshid=qbw7z3abzq5x

The Slip Clutch
For years, GearLab ™ has been gathering crowds at Maker Faires, Art Galleries and Conventions. One of the things we love most about it is the seemingly magical attraction that brings together total strangers to work cooperatively , exploring gear interactions and kinetic art.
However, when the group of strangers includes small children, at some point during the day there would come that moment…
