Overcoming ANY illness at any age is often an insurmountable feat that few come out of with very little problems. My experience with being diagnosed with Guillian-Barre Syndrome when I was 10 left me with very little physical scars but many emotional ones. Not so much anymore but in my teen years it was a nightmare. It was hard to keep up with my friends, I had lower back pain and all I wanted was for it to go away. I experienced nerve pain on the daily and it beat the life out of me.

I think about that experience everyday and being a personal trainer, I’m constantly reminded of everything that I had to overcome. Walking, talking, dressing myself....everything that we take for granted every. single. day.

The awesome part is that I’m able to use my experience as a learning tool for others to gain motivation from for their own fitness goals. When I train people, I can be abrasive but I’m not a slave driver. I asked you to do one sit up not hike the Alps in sub degree temperatures. It’s really about perspective. Either you see your situation as permanent with no way around it OR you see your situation as an opportunity to capitalize on and change things for the better. What’s your choice? Be sure to make the right one. You’d be surprised at what you can learn about yourself.
