When dating a ND (not my own words. Affectionately stolen from a person on FB who responded to a post I made in a ND group about dating as a NT/ND couple):

Give them a lot like common courtesy, but on steroids. Examples: listen actively, not to answer, but to witness what your partner is trying to express.

Don't settle for unspoken expectations, take the time to ask for your needs gently and to understand what your partner wants.

Smile at odd little quirks, but be aware of laughing out loud. ND folks have endured a lot of abuse for their quirky but harmless behaviors.

Be patient when you don't understand, odds are your partner is trying really hard to be understood which is already stressing their patience.

Never forget what attracted you to your partner in the first place, write it down or tattoo it if you have to.

When you get irritated, remember that your partner's annoying thing now is probably a different manifestation of the very thing that you like most about them.

When you feel that you are doing most of the work, you are getting close to doing half the work.

Don't spend too much of your good times together worrying about how to be NT dating an ND.

Research in your alone time.

Enjoy every minute of the good times, because that will motivate you both through the awkward and difficult times.

i went on a walk alone

That wasn't the original intent.

I thought I'd do a nice/good thing, and go on a walk with my person. I gave him a 30 min time warning. He said he wanted to do it -- it's way out of my comfort zone, but it's a good thing to do. It's good for me to walk, and hell, I'd been inside all day.

Well, fuck me for trying. He had just started a brilliant conversation that would not be interrupted. He would have been "rude" had he stayed on the walk, preferring his phone conversation.

I guess, I'm thankful for the honestly. A walk with him, would have frustrated me. It would have defeated the whole purpose. It would have left me complete unfulfilled, and feeling like some afterthought. Some *thing* that doesn't warrant regarding.

I know that's dramatic. I know. But I just feel... uncared for. I know I shouldn't take in personally. But, I'm actually struggling, and I kind of needed this. Whatever.

No, not whatever. He mentioned going to the farmer's market, but I'm COMPLETELY tapped. There's no money anywhere, on any card. I can't go to the farmer's market, because that costs money. I've got a week until payday, and I'm not one of his little part-time friends that live in a room, or a dumpy apartment.

I wanted this to be a thing we could do for free -- something he literally does every other day, with other people, since all we'd done in stay in the house (the CA heat tho!).

I feel poor. I feel tapped. I feel alone, and to boot, this added not good enough to go on a walk.

Now, it's whatever. Dumb.

The walk wasn't for me, so I suggested we turn around. I walk back, let him in the house, and then decide, FUCK IT. I'm going on this walk.

It's 9:00pm, and 92 degrees out. There's a little breeze, and it's not *too* dark out. It's actually very CA nice, lol. (IYKYK)

I reminded myself that yes, I can take a walk by myself, and that walking is good. It reminded me that I'm capable.

Would I have liked for him to come with me? Sure.

Do I need him to come with me? No.

Will I do more walks alone? Likely. Will I always invite him? Yes.
