I've always wondered but did we get a clear explanation for what happened to the original Rio and Shark(the kids that died) I know that their not really important as Nasch and Merag but- were their souls simply erased from existence? Zexal can't just give me that and not expect me to not have theories about it. Say, the barian invasion arc was longer. Heartland is ravaged like arc-v. And imagine if Those two souls were back as Astrals with vendettas against Shark and Rio. They'd have reasons?
apparently Ryoga and Rio are descendants of Nasch and Merag? Nasch’s family crest is in a fountain in the Kamishiro’s mansion, that Ryoga uncovered when he discovered he was a Barian. Not sure the exact episode though. I’m not so sure if they died for real, but they “died” briefly and the souls of Nasch and Merag entered their bodies. It’s unclear whether or not they have memories from before the accident and, well, trauma is a thing, they might not have thanks to trauma, or thanks to having their memories erased because their souls were replaced.. it could be many things..

Any theories on when Sevens will get subbed or when the OST will be released?
Hm, can’t say for sure tbh. The track with the OP/ED was released mid-September about 5 months after airing but it wasn’t an official Sound Duel really.
If we look at Vrains, they’re first Sound Duel wasn’t released till over a year, like about 18 months, after the original airdate, but they got Sound Duel 2 in another 4 months.
Arc-V got their first Sound Duel in about 4 months after airing and Sound Duel 2 about 5 months later.
Zexal got Sound Duel 1 in about 5 months from air date and Sound Duel 2 after an additional 12 months.
The time usually spanned from 4 months to, like, 3 years (looking at you, arc v sound duel 4), but there isn’t a clear record on release dates aside from the occasional 4-5 month pattern.
Since the studio changed, I don’t know how they are handling the release of sound duels or if they’re even going to continue releasing them in this format. But if I were to guess, Sevens Sound Duel 1 will be released sometime around early April. A year would’ve passed since the show started airing, and assuming that each Sevens arc is around 13-ish episodes, the current arc will come to end at around 40 episodes, amassing enough soundtracks to justify a release. It might be a good time to enter a new season with a new opening/ending and completely new soundtracks too, but who knows.
As for subs, theres a good chance that an official Sevens subs will never get released. The company that is doing it is Crunchyroll (theyre subs are alright but they exist). So far, they subbed every show except Zexal and Sevens, and they also ran Vrains as a simulcast. The fact that they didn’t pick up Sevens for the 2020 Spring lineup and have yet to sub Zexal despite having the rights to stream the dub for YEARS, I feel like it’ll never come.
Sevens might not have a chance, sadly, but we still have some great fansubs available.

Do you have any ideas on why the barians faces are just so........unique. Also what do you think happened to that prince boy that Alito(past life) was super into. What was his life like? Did he become a spirit in barian world? I've always wondered and since I know you as that person with obscure zexal knowledge, I wanted to know what you thought.
Thanks you, although my knowledge of zexal (and ygo in general tbh) is rather limited compared to a lot of people in the fanbase. Like, it’s only barians for some reason.
For their faces, I don’t get what you mean by uniqueness exactly?
Their head is based on their hair in human form, and they are distinctively humanoid in shape unlike Don Thousand or the fearsome which generally take on the “insect” approach. The only (arguably) humanoid is kurage’s, but even that takes inspiration from the jellyfish.
With the Emperors and their markings/mask, there’s a couple of things to note.
I don’t think its that significant, but something I noticed is that the Emperors appeared in a certain order. I marked it with Sargasso because it sounded nice, but you could think of it as the beginning, middle, and end.
The first set of barians we get in full (as in their unhooded alien form) are Mizael, Alito, and Gilag in that order during the whatever arc. The next are Durbe then Vector revealed during the Sargasso Arc. Finally, we get Nasch and Merag during the Barian Onslaught Arc.
From here, you can catch a handful of similarities between each set.
Like I said, it could be a coincidence that their designs debuted like this. But Mizael, Alito, and Gilag were revealed within 5 episodes of each other. After that, it takes another 8 eps to get to Durbe and Vector, then +25 to get to Nasch and Merag. This means we spend a large amount of time (if you were watching this live, or on a weekly basis instead of binging) with a specific idea of what the barians are exactly.
Id’d argue that the first set is the most alien we get out of the Emperors. Humanoid, yes, but they’re mask make them feel distinctly less human. I think it’s because we get to know these character as humans first, so they’re barian appearance must be more different than the others or else it’ll create a dissonance. At this point of the narrative, the audience believes the barians are aliens. The past life stuff doesn’t appear until after the Sargasso Arc, so for the first 20-something episodes, Mizael, Alito, and Gilag (despite their behavior) must set up a more alien atmosphere than the others.
So during Sargasso, we get Vector and Durbe. You can argue that Vector is more alien due to his wings and claws, but look at his face compared to the first set. With the pre-sargasso barians, their mask makes them look like >:l constantly. Just a big >:l the entire time. They’re always angry and intimidating, and the animators have to work hard to alter this expression.
The lack of a mask on Durbe and Vector allows them to be more versatile in their emotions, especially Vector who has the most expression out of them all. And as they get more versatile, they get “more human” per-say.
It’s kinda a given that Durbe is one of the more bland designs in terms of the Emperors, but I think this works to his advantage. Durbe is the only barian we see as alien first, and then human. And as one of the last barian to be revealed, instead of something intimidating and threatening, we get this
That is something I would beat up and shove inside a locker, not something expect to be the leader and supposed most-powerful of the Emperors. He’s non-threatening, kinda cute, and this idea sets up the Mythyrian Arc where the audience finds out that the aliens aren’t truly aliens. In fact, they were human.
While pre-sargasso sets them up as foreign and off-putting aliens, sargasso shifts their appearance towards humanity.
Of course this means that Nasch and Merag have the most human traits out of the designs, and id argue yes-ish. When I said Durbe is bland, it doesn’t mean he’s not alien. He and Vector have a fair share of alien features in them. They’re pointed ears, the wings and claws on Vector, Durbe’s soulless and pupiless eyes, ect. They’re definitely alien, but not quite there.
Nasch and Merag, on the other hand, appear during the narrative when the audience knows what the barians are precisely. We KNOW that Shark and Rio are Nasch and Merag. Since we know they were human and they have nothing left to hide, they adapt the most traits of their human form. They don’t have claws or body deformations, and their “hair” is similar in shape and color to their human form.
Like, I’m not saying it’s difficult to guess which barian is which human (people who haven’t watched zexal can easily align them) but in terms of similarities, Nasch and Meraq hit the most traits between human and barian. The only notable difference is they take on the dominant hair color for their antlers and have more exaggerated features + their crown.
So in terms of why the Emperor’s are designed the way they are, my guess is that they were designed to be from order of appearance: more alien ---> less alien.
This coincide with how the audience should treat them. In the beginning, they were framed as one-dimensional evil aliens who needed to be taken out. But the more the story progresses, this viewpoint becomes muddied. Do they really deserve to die if their goals are so human and their circumstance so unjust? Nasch and Merag look so much like their human counterparts because that’s how the audience known them for over a hundred episodes. Aside from the familiarity, if we truly believe the barians need to die, then our Rio and Ryouga must go with them.
With their markings, some people said that Nasch’s markings look like tear tracts because hes a crybaby chicken man of his tragic past while Merag’s makes it looks like she has rosy cheeks (bc cold and ice y’kno). I dont’ have much of an explanation for Vector aside from appearing similar to Nasch, whom he envies for being the stronger Emperor. Durbe, idk. Looks like a cat
As for the prince, it’s unlikely that the writers had any story for him outside of his role with Alito in the past life.
However, it could be implied that the prince’s spirit reside within Alito’s Mythyrian Number and his role was to protect/restore Alito to his true self in the future.
That’s how I interpreted it, personally.

In my own headspace, I always found the sacred beast card cooler to make theories about when you take in the wider yugioh universe.
Their big fusion monster is part of the chaos archetype. *looks at zexal in the distance* maybe they were prototype egyptian god cards made with the "evil" chaos of barian world, because I'm pretty sure that the entire ritual summoning mechanic was basically ranking up for Xyz monsters but with regular duel monsters. Like "take two monsters and WHAMM, big boss monster"
Also they just look cooler than the egyptian gods tbh.
oooo, very interesting thoughts!!
Unfortunately, ive been a little blank in the head lately so i can’t write anything worthwhile atm but i like the idea of all the yugiohs being connected (the yugiverse??) and its not a new idea at all. The first three series are obviously interlocked, but I heard that zexal was the result of Z-ONE sucessfully wiping out all synchro monsters. So Zexal and Gx existing in the same universe isn’t a far-reach, and the same Chaos that made Don Thousand couldve played a role in the Sacred Beasts’ creation.
Taking a quick look, Don’s ancient form is a bit similar to the Sacred Beast aesthetic
Not exactly right, but there could be a case for it if you squint (*cough*and y’know, if don isnt a coward and takes off the rest of his clothes so he’d be 100% feral like the other sacred beast*cough*)
I must admit my lore concerning the Sacred Beasts and Egyptian Gods are rather weak compared to my knowledge on hmphmhm, but this is an interesting topic of discussion.
(Although I do prefer the Egyptian gods over the Scared beasts by a small magin. Love both of their designs overall, but the sacred beasts look so... bony and sick, i guess? I prefer my monsters with meat)
#gayalienspaceman#ask#ah my brain is uncooperative for thought-pieces right now#and im unfamiliar with a lot of gx lore#but cool nonetheless

-Its Ranting about Kotori hours- But I get what the show tried to do with her . A person who didn't duel in a Yugioh anime? Sounds stupid but it could work. Kotori must've been dealing with alot of mental problems tbh that weren't shown because ugh imagine giving actual emotional weight to our characters. Imagine how she felt, powerless to do nothing because it turned out to not be a "children's card game" everyone is dead and yet she can't fight back? Yes sign me up for that angst yesssss
yes, and the most interesting thing: she was one of the few to not “die” and she was there, watching from real close, in every single important duel, and all she could do was cheer up others. It’s kind of sad if you stop and pay attention to it because Kotori’s role in this show was being the emotional support pillar of other characters, without having barely any development herself other than.. romance (which makes things even worse IMO). She was a 13 years old teenager, very dependent on the approval of others, and written in a somewhat “whatever” way ー see Cathy, for example, another girl in the main character’s group that has had a lot of development and her whole personality wasn’t about being other people’s emotional dumpster or being hopelessly in love.. (have nothing against characters that are emotional dumpsters or hopelessly in love, but I do have a problem when this is all what there is for these characters)

Wild Theory being thrown out here but since future hope was made from Yuma's power- Doesn't that make it and yuma himself barian in nature? Is future hope a barian number? I know I shouldn't be talking about theories but I cant help but think. Yuma's chaos is different so maybe....just maybe, he is like, a barian god kinda. He and don thousand both represent two sides of chaos.
no, it makes sense actually. If I recall correctly, Vector once mentioned “Barian powers” and during the series “Chaos” is also mentioned a lot ー even though it seems like they’re the same thing? ー I’m not sure. If Astral is the envoy from Astral World, maybe Yuma is the envoy from Astral-Barian World? (Because these worlds became one again, it would make sense to have someone representative of both powers), because he has Chaos and also could control Barian powers?
think Yuma being a “Barian in nature” makes a lot of sense too, if he only started existing the moment Astral lost a part of himself in that duel ー and consequently, Don Thousand lost parts of himself too ー it would not be too farfetched to consider that Don Thousand’s essence is also part of Yuma (so.. Barian powers)
maybe Yuma’s Numbers are not Barian or Astralian, but something in between??? And I agree he and Don Thousand represent two sides of Chaos, but maybe Yuma is not a Barian god himself.. but who knows???

Okay but we needed more of Hope's personality. I dont even care if he talks. We just need more of him. Him appearing as a duel spirit. Kinda like Neos but better. And I just need me some more hope tbh. Imagine if all the Hopes had different personalities.. Hope - dad Hope ray - the estranged uncle Hope ray v - brother( cause chaos beings need to stick together) Hope ray victory - chaotic neutral Beyond the hope - grandparent friend. Hope roots - energetic younger brother
Hope is a sweetheart with a nice ass and cool armor and this is more than enough for me <3

Okay but like I have an idea. Mirai was actually somewhat a good parent. So I though it weird she always went with Kazuma on adventuring. And then it hit me. (Obviously I know this isn't true but ~imagine~) What if he was forcing he to go. What if Kazuma was just a piece of shit tbh
Mirai was a bad parent too. From the little shown, she treated Akari with the same contempt as Kazuma and showed her preference towards Yuma without any filter. And she looks much younger than Kazuma too. Putting her and her daughter together, you can’t probably tell they’re a mother and her child (creepy). Maybe Kazuma found her during his adventures, and maybe it was the other way around: she is the one suggesting them travel around places and leave the kids behind. Anything about Mirai’s own family is unknown, so it could be safe to assume she is a traveler/adventurer herself. Kazuma is shady and a shitty parent, but so is Mirai (except she looks a lot more manipulative) Kazuma seems like a good man, but a bad parent. Not everyone is suited for raising a child, and he is one of these people. I don’t think he’s forced anyone to go with him but he was a piece of shit for neglecting his daughter and only traveling with his younger child
