I'm glad it was Gavin that told Smithy, cementing the fact they aren't just best friends, they're brothers.

Nice use of Coldplay in 6x11. However, I don't think even that scene can help me erase the Sutcliffe wedding vow renewals from my mind. That ring!

Christmas Eve 2024, Carol's at St Andrew's
It doesn't seem possible that it is Christmas Eve. Christmas does seem to have snuck up on us. There are trees and lights here, and I think I heard jingle bells in Coles yesterday, but the whole razzmatazz thing is not really in train here or anywhere on our travels such as it usually is at home. Coles are insistent on the TV that I buy a ham the size of a small country, we settled for a very nice basted and stuffed joint of pork in a small box. We note that Love Actually is on Stan, as is 'Its a Wonderful Life.' Well, that's TV sorted. 'Gavin and Stacey' is on a paid channel, so we might have to wait till we get home for that, so no spoilers, please. Our Christmas Day shopping complete, all in, including Coles finest mince pies, veg, ice cream, SB, a feast let me tell you, tallied about £40. Bargain.
Manly was heaving today, and such a contrast to the town we left in October, which, of course, was still springtime. Now, it has emerged like a butterfly from a chrysalis. Manly is now vibrant with life and colour. The cafés open and spilling out onto the streets, the Corso, previously an empty street, now with a bustling street market selling trendy craftware. Young folk everywhere, milling around any outlet like moths to a light bulb. We described it as Clapham by the Sea. We bought a pie.
This evening, we caught a ferry into Sydney to celebrate Christmas at St Andrew's Cathedral for four lessons and carols. Like Liverpool, Sydney has two cathedrals; St Andrew's being the Anglican one. The service was extremely good, starting in the traditions of time immemorial as the lone chorister sings the first verse of Once in Royal David's City before the choir processes up the nave and the congregation joins in. The music was excellent, led by a very competent Director of Music who coaxed all of us to belt these familiar carols out. The building itself was quite remarkable. Firstly, building work began in 1819, which is just 31 years after the first fleet sailed into Sydney Harbour. When all other aspects of building a new city urgently needed attention, they built a cathedral as well. Its first architect, Francis Greenaway, had been transported for fraud!Secondly, it is a faithful but smaller replica of a Norman European Cathedral, built 1000 years before in the Perpendicular style similarly used in Canterbury, Winchester, and York. To put a perspective on timing, 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing,' was penned by Charles Wesley, who died just at the time of the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788. This is a young country that has come such a long way in such a short time.
It was surreal to attend a carol service wearing shorts. The vicar in his opening remarks apologised if it was a little warm in the cathedral, but they had left the doors open all day hoping to cool it, and fans were installed to move the air around. Compare this to last Christmas and our attendance at a similar service in Gloucester Cathedral. We froze.
Leaving the service we strolled back down George to see celebrations in the square by the old GPO building where a massive Christmas tree had been erected, and festivities with band and choir were leading community singing of seasonal songs. Very jolly.
We then made our way to Circular Quays and the Fortune of War pub, the oldest in Sydney, which first served beer in 1828. A great atmosphere, served by Irish barmaids, and drinking Byron Ale. Great end to a most enjoyable day. We walked home, passing houses in dark streets, gardens bedecked with Christmas lighting, loving the atmosphere here, our second time here at Christmas.
ps. We had our first mince pie of the season today.

Despite being British, I have never watched Gavin and Stacey. So, me and my mum decided to watch it all, you know, considering The Finale. We were hoping to finish it in time for today. We are currently at the start of S3.
How long do you think I can avoid spoilers? 😂

I haven't seen the movie yet but follow Rob on Twitter and he explained that Margot Robbie is a huge fan of "Gavin and Stacey" and specifically asked for him to cameo in it. LOL :D And I think that's awesome and can't wait to see the movie soon.

it is so embarrassing to be sincere and serious about gavin & stacey so I won't do it on twitter even though it's a solid sitcom FIGHT me but I have two things to say:
it should have ended just before the proposal and please, everyone on the internet, there should not be a fourth series!!!! It's not interesting to see what the outcome of it is. maybe those characters do get married later, in that universe, offscreen, but we don't need to know about it. I don't ever want to fully understand how nessa and smithy feel about each other. I LOVED seeing them as a team who got on well, co-parented effectively, felt affection and love for each other. it satisfied the part of me that is an absolute sap who lives for warmth in comedy but coupled with a proposal, the ambiguity that makes them so interesting is almost gone. whether smithy says yes, no or some version of 'I have to think about it' is irrelevant because it was amazing when they were on the same page but (excuse the awful metaphor extension!!!!) they didn't know what book it was. I love them maturing into a team while retaining that spark, some sort of incredible sexual compatibility - but not being so conventionally in love. it's funnier, more interesting and strangely sweeter. or I’m wrong and I’ll change my mind tomorrow. but I’m right about series 4. also please un-jumble this paragraph in your mind because I can’t be bothered to fix it
the second thing is about the balance they always managed to keep between having these fat characters who ARE sometimes genuinely disgusting, who eat loads, who can be lazy - every stereotype - and crucially the comedy counterparts, the ones you’re often laughing at, to gavin & stacey as the straight men, and yet they’re the characters you root for. characters everybody in-universe and out loves and whose inclusion in the show never made me feel bad about myself as a fat person. the outright rejection of fat phobia in this episode felt really special to me because it's always been one of my favourite things about the show but not something people mention about it anymore.
(another quick thing I love generally about it is that everyone laughs and shares looks with each other and finds things other people say funny. weirdly rare.)
and a third thing which is obviously they should have censored the song, for fucks sake. WHY?
tl;dr the proposal is too literal and everyone on twitter calling for another series is wrong and doesn't understand anything. which I already knew because they all want to know what happened on the BLOODY fishing trip
please forgive me for this post and remember that I am still a cool person

A collective post of everything I watched on Netflix in 2020
I finally found the watch history function on Netflix which I wanted in order to reminisce over the TV/film I watched over the last year, including the good and the bad. I’ve included a little round-up of my thoughts for each, as lockdown has got me with plenty of time on my hands. If anyone has watched any of the below feel free to give me a message- happy to discuss anything!
Travelers (season 3) - this was an unforgettable show with some great characters and definitely put me through hell (in a good way), I am a David x Marcy shipper for sure!
IT Crowd (season 4 & 5) - my favourite comedy show ever, and I mean the UK version
Explained (random episodes) - interesting bite-sized episodes on a variety of topics
Sherlock (season 3 & 4) - it kinda went downhill from season 4...and doesn’t help that there is no season 5 in sight
Unforgettable - must be pretty forgettable cause I couldn’t remember watching, a typical revenge plot romp I think
The Mind, Explained - same as for Explained above, except more pyshcological
You (season 2) - binge-worthy! I love to hate Joe Goldberg.
Don’t F**k with Cats - wow, this was disturbing but so gripping.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle - geniunely a good remake and rather amusing
Sex, Explained - as for Explained but a little more intriguing ;)
The Stranger (season 1) - full of suspense and a good binge watch but ultimately full of plot holes with an unsatisfying conclusion
Gavin & Stacey (season 3) - a classic which I only started watching in 2019
Sex Education (all of it) - comedy gold!
Unbelievable (limited series) - very harrowing, an emotional rollercoaster based on a real-life rape case
Atypical (all of it) - light-hearted and fun to binge
The Sinner (season 1) - it was okay... wasn’t spectacular compared to other similar dramas I’ve seen
Love Is Blind (season 1) - cringey but satisfying
In the Shadow of the Moon - I hardly remember this one :)
Dunkirk - a stand-out historical movie
The Stepfather - typical killer stepfather plot but rather enjoyable
The Super - an interesting premise, but not that super
Saw VI - all gore not much plot
Doctor Who (random episodes) - no words needed :D
Louis Theroux and Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends (random episodes) - I love his style of interviewing - what a man!
The Revenant - a lot of... well, not much
Nightcrawler - it was decent, but something was missing which I couldn’t put my finger on
How To Get Away With Murder (seasons 1-5) - probably my biggest new watch of the year, a rollercoaster of suspense, drama and murder, another season to go...
Ocean’s Eleven - fun but cheesey
Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare - creepy faces and an interesting ending
Eli - it started one way then went another, I wasn’t convinced
Star Trek (2009) - I couldn’t really get into this one...
In the Tall Grass - a lot of running around in grass
Bloodride (season 1) - i loved this, a quirky idea, i binged it
Apostle - intense, a satisfying religious cult horror
The Platform - great idea, not sure on the ending
What Keeps You Alive - what happened in this one again?
History 101 - didn’t watch many episodes :P
The Prodigy - a decent child possession horror
Into the Night (season 1) - really enjoyed this, a highlight of the year for me, hoping for a season 2
It - pretty chilling and creepy, but a tad cheesey
Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - the first one has a brilliant dinosaur fight scene, the second one has too many plot holes and inconsistencies to take seriously
Knowing - a Nicholas Cage sci-fi/apocalpytic classic, pretty decent
Stranger Things (random episodes) - i tried to get my bf into the show but sadly he still isn’t much of a TV fan
Miranda (random episodes) - such fun!
Black Mirror (seasons 1 & 2) - another one i introduced the bf to, i got a bit further with him on this one, the very first episode being the highlight
The Last House on the Left - a decent remake, but nothing outstanding
Dark (season 3) - this, my friends, is one of the greatest shows of all time. want a timey-wimey story where everything is connected and has an amazingly satisfying conclusion? this is the show for you!
The Silence - a bad ‘A Quiet Place’
Geostorm - i’m a fan of disaster movies but this one wasn’t in the same league as some of the greats
Panic Room - a mum and kid hides in the panic room when a group of thugs break into the house, it was enjoyable but not all that memorable
Prisoners - a very long film with some enjoyable parts but overall unsatisfying
Girl on the Third Floor - it was okay, i can’t remember much of it
The Woods (season 1) - another Harlan Coben adaptation- not as good as ‘Safe’ or ‘The Stranger’ but still a gripping thriller
Time Trap - a fun time-travel film with some interesting turns of events
72 Dangerous/Cutest Animals (random episodes) - just ‘cause i love animals
Slasher (all of it) - some very gory deaths, especially in season 3. quite disturbing but keeps the suspense up throughout.
2012 - a guilty pleasure of mine, realistic or not
Kingsman: The Secret Service - a fun spy film, will be looking to watch the second one soon
Blackfish - this was harrowing, it really made me think, but overall i’m on the side of tilikum
Unsolved Mysteries (season 1 & 2) - watching some of these my jaw dropped, love theorising on this kind of stuff
Down to Earth with Zac Efron (season 1) - Zac is great in this, he seems so chill and literally ‘down to earth’
The Call - I love this film, seen it 3 times now
Contagion - very relatable right now, interesting to see the parallels with todays situation
Next in Fashion (season 1) - i didn’t get too far with this, i found it a little superficial
Searching - another of those internet web-cam based films. decent but not memorable.
Non-stop - another Nicholas Cage classic, this time a suspense thriller
Freaks - as the title suggests this one was rather weird, i didn’t quite gel with it
The Perfection - wow, that was an experience. definitely memorable, even if some characters make questionable decisions...
Extraction - not usually a fan of action-type thrillers, but i actually enjoyed this one, plus it has Chris Hemsworth in it!
Line of Duty (season 2) - full of suspense, a great build-up in the first 5 episodes, but the way they tied it up really grated on me
Insidious - watched this one with my sister. a genuinely good horror film on rewatch with an amazing cliff-hanger
A Quiet Place - another one watched with my sister. labelled a horror but its more sci-fi, either way its a classic. bring on the second film!
The Dark Tower - disappointing mostly.
Gladiator - i’d never seen this before and now i understand the hype- what an epic movie!
Criminal UK (season 2) - didn’t disappoint following the exceptional first season
Venom - a fun comedic marvel film, definitely need to watch more from Marvel in the next year- i need an order to watch them in as don’t know where to start
Our Planet (season 1) - chill David Attenborough to put on in the background
The Equalizer - a great action revenge thriller plot with a badass Denzel
Merlin (random episodes) - who doesn’t love a trip down memory lane with some nostalgic bbc merlin?
A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) - pretty scary remake
The Witcher (season 1) - rewatched in order to familiarise myself again before season 2 - i didn’t realise how funny the show was until this time round, gotta love Jaskier!
American Murder: The Family Next Door - this was haunting
The Haunting of Bly Manor - phenomenal, emotional, creepy, heartbreaking - i much preferred it to Hill House
Abducted in Plain Sight - seriously, how naive are the parents in this? i could have a rant for hours about this!
The End of the F***ing World (seasons 1 & 2) - very bingeable, Alyssa makes me laugh too much, i love how relatable the show is
Fractured - didn’t expect much from this consipiracy-type film but it kept me guessing right till the end
The Ripper (limited series) - very intriguing, but the mysogyny in this was shocking
Inconceivable - a typical mother looking for her baby revenge plot but still entertaining
The Midnight Sky - i’d heard rave reviews for this but was disappointed by a lacklustre plot which was sacrificed for award-winning cinematography
Killer Women with Piers Morgan (season 2) - a pyschological interview series which looks into the mind of murderers, rather interesting
May the Devil Take You - scarier and jumpier than i thought it would be!
So 2020 obviously gave me a lot of time to watch a s**t load of stuff and looking back at it i feel like i got a decent amount of my watch-list ticked off! And obviously this is not including shows watched on other media so there’s that too (a special shout-out to the William Hartnell era of Doctor Who which I watched this year on BritBox). In all, 2020 has definitely introduced me to a few new fandoms and progressed my love for others.

The Sister Cast: Russell Tovey and Bertie Carvel’s Best-Known Roles
https://ift.tt/31KaCcX
Written by Luther creator Neil Cross, The Sister stars Russell Tovey and Bertie Carvel as acquaintances connected by a long-buried, dark secret. The four-part paranormal thriller based on Cross’ 2009 novel Burial, sees Nathan Redman (Tovey) and Bob Morrow (Carvel) tussle with their conscience when the past re-emerges and threatens to upend the lives they’ve built. Tovey and Carvel star alongside Amrita Acharia as Nathan’s partner Holly, and Nina Toussaint-White as Holly’s friend and a police officer investigating the disappearance of a young woman (Simone Ashley).
Leads Carvel and Tovey boast a long and healthy back-catalogue of stage and screen parts. See below for five of their most recognisable roles to date.
Bertie Carvel: Magician, Adulterer, Headmistress, Murdoch, Agatha Christie
Jonathan Strange – Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
Carvel was dream-casting for the role of mercurial magician Jonathan Strange in the 2015 BBC One adaptation of Susanna Clarke’s rich period-fantasy Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (a cracker for fans of 19th century lit and astonishingly worthy of its 1000-odd page length). He was paired perfectly with Eddie Marsan as the withdrawn and bookish Mr Norrell, against whom Carvel’s Strange appeared even more, well… strange. Carvel played the character as part Dr Frankenstein, part Lord Byron, with his own sense of mischief and unpredictability. Magic.
Miss Trunchbull – Matilda the Musical
Roald Dahl’s villains are legendary, and on stage, Bertie Carvel made the antagonist of Matilda the Musical unforgettable. Plumped out with padding, a hump, warts, a wig and a weightlifter’s belt, he didn’t play the terrifyingly sadistic headmistress for laughs, but got them anyway. Carvel won an Olivier award for the performance, and was nominated for a Tony. In the upcoming film version of the Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin musical, Voldemort himself, aka Ralph Fiennes, is reported to be picking up the Miss Trunchbull role.
Simon Foster – Doctor Foster
For a brief period in 2015, a Bertie Carvel character became the most-hated man in the country. As the cheating husband of Suranne Jones’ titular character in BBC drama Doctor Foster, he became a dartboard target for wronged women everywhere. Smug, arrogant and apparently conscience-free, Simon Foster’s extra-marital affair with Jodie Comer’s Kate was all anybody talked about.
Rupert Murdoch – Ink
Carvel won a coveted Tony award for his role as media mogul Rupert Murdoch in Ink, a play by Quiz and This House playwright James Graham, set against the backdrop of the late sixties as a young Murdoch buys UK tabloid newspaper The Sun.
Zachariah Osborne – The Pale Horse
One of Carvel’s most recent and prominent screen roles saw him join the twisted Sarah Phelps-Agatha Christie universe. In two-part adaptation The Pale Horse, he plays Zachariah Osborne, a car mechanic who becomes obsessed with the idea that he and lead Mark Easterbrook (Rufus Sewell) have been cursed by witches…

The Undoing Review (Spoiler-Free): Classy Thriller With An All-Star Cast
By Rosie Fletcher
TV
New British TV Series for 2020: BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky Dramas and More
By Louisa Mellor
Russell Tovey: History Boy, Werewolf, Slacker, Gamer, Everyman
Rudge – The History Boys
Both on stage at The National and on screen for the 2006 film adaptation of Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, Russell Tovey played Rudge, one of a group of sixth-formers taking the Oxford entrance examination in the 1980s. Alongside Tovey, the play’s cast has included Dominic Cooper, James Corden, Sacha Dhawan and Matt Smith, all of whom went on to very big things.
George Sands – Being Human
Supernatural drama Being Human was never quite the same after the series three departure of the original cast (well, not the original original cast, which had Andrea Riseborough as Annie, didn’t have Poldark’s Aidan Turner as Mitchell, but did have The Crown’s Claire Foy as George’s ex-fiancée Julia). Russell Tovey was there from the start as werewolf George, the beating heart of the Bristol-based flat-share.
Steve – Him & Her
Russell Tovey made a terrific pair with Sarah Solemani (who’s written the currently-in-production BBC drama Ridley Road) in low-key BBC comedy Him & Her. Becky and Steve were loveable slobs whose inertia meant their sitcom’s action never left the confines of their filthy flat. No matter, because they were subject to an onslaught of grotesquely comic visitors, from Becky’s sister Laura (Kerry Howard) to upstairs neighbour Dan (Joe Wilkinson).
Kevin – Looking
Celebrated HBO comedy-drama Looking was hailed by many critics as the male, gay answer to Lena Dunham’s Girls over its three-season lifespan between 2014-2016. The series won well-deserved plaudits for its funny, touching and frank portrayal of the lives of gay men living in San Francisco, navigating career, love lives and family. Tovey played video-game genius Kevin, the boss and sometime love interest of lead Patrick (Jonathan Groff).
Daniel Lyons – Years and Years
Without spoilers, Tovey’s character has a heart-wrenching and gripping storyline in Russell T. Davies’ Years and Years. The six-part BBC series follows three generations of a Manchester family from the present day years into the future, where modern politics, the economy and division over immigration have all worsened in the UK. It’s a powerful drama, and Tovey is right at its heart.

Spooky drama The Sister airs at 9pm on Monday 26th, Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th on ITV.

Get To Know Me Tag Game
Tagged by: @baberoeeee (thank you!!)
Birthday: 12th July
Zodiac: Cancer
Height: 5’3” (I’m baby?)
Last song I listened to: Supercut by Lorde (I’ve only just started listening to her but omg she’s so good I’m in love)
Hobbies: Reading, lil bit of writing, watching films, looking at holidays that I can’t afford on minimum wage, procrastinating, being an idiot
Favourite colour: I don’t really have one, but I guess if I had to pick then maybe blue??
Last movie I watched: Dead Poets Society (don’t touch me I’m not okay). 100% would recommend you watch this if you haven’t already. I watched it yesterday and I’m gonna watch it again tomorrow.
Favourite book: How to Stop Time by Matt Haig, and Never Greener by Ruth Jones. Both are absolutely genius. I’ve been a big fan of Ruth for a while (Gavin & Stacey, Stella etc) and knew straight away I would love the book (spoiler alert: I do). Matt Haig’s book is one I discovered while walking around my local bookshop and I quickly fell in love with his book. I would 100% recommended both books to anyone, especially if you want a good love story with heartache for all characters. Haig’s book also gives you a lot to think about (especially time and how we have no control over it), so it gives a good mixture of love story and what’s realistic,
Dream job: Either cabin crew (air hostess) or a travel agent. Anything to do with holidays really.
Meaning behind my url: I’m really just a huge thot, and at the time I made my url I was on the Liebgott boat, but I’m always gonna be a Luz girl.

Nina Sosanya (Love, Actually, W1A) as Asher
Sylvester McCoy (Doctor Who) as Aezethril the Wizard
Tom Rosenthal (Friday Night Dinner, Plebs), returning as Brandon Berrenger
Vas Blackwood (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), returning as Pirate Reece
Some thoughts
As Brandon Berrenger is returning, I wonder if Scott will be involved in his rescue again.
I guess Pirate Reece companion (I can’t remember his name) isn’t appearing.
The video game quest thing, sounds interesting. So that rock monster in the trailer is part of this episode. It’s great that another Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) from Dr Who is voicing a guest character.

also what other tv shows have you watched that were good? i need something lined up for when i finish cm 🧍♂️
I’m not one that goes and finds new shows to watch after I’ve finished what I was watching so I’ve practically binged the same few shows for the last few weeks, ha.
The classic UK sitcoms are my favourite to watch; programmes like The Royle Family, Friday Night Dinner, The Inbetweeners and Gavin and Stacey have been on my list to re-watch over and over again. I don’t think you could find anything that tops those specific shows in my books. I’ve been slowly going back through CM but that’s simply for the Spencer content and nothing more than that because I’m missing his very cute, very soft face. In reality show world, I’ve been watching the celebrity version of GBBO that’s on the television at the moment and I’ve also been watching The Circle UK (although I’m watching them via catch-up because I’m usually on call with my friends when it’s on so I miss it and I end up seeing spoilers when I wake up in the mornings). xx
