Gavin Johnson is the Captain of the Royal Guard, rising to the position after his older brother, David, was elected to the Council. Although his start into the military was rocky, Gavin has proven himself to be a capable leader. Unlike his older brother, Gavin was a unplanned surprise, ten years later, but his parents were still happy. Most of his childhood was spent in his brother's shadow, especially as military strategy and skill was not something that came natural to Gavin. He spent almost 4 years in the Academy, almost dropping out twice, and only managed to score an Army position because of his family name. Still, Gavin worked hard, moving his way up through the ranks and eventually becoming Commander of the Army under his father's time as Captain (so yes, at one time, there were three Johnsons within the 5 highest ranking military officers). Then, the Atlanta City Council bombing occurred, shaking the Royal Guard to its core, especially as its own members were involved in the planning and execution. Wracked with guilt, Captain Xavier Johnson "committed suicide", leaving David and Gavin to pick up the pieces of a falling-apart military and family. At this time, Gavin became Commander of Special Operations, as the only person David trusted to keep order. Under David's command, the Royal Guard went through major changes for the better. Gavin inherited this well-rebuilt military when he became Captain, as David became Councilor. To most characters, Gavin is the father figure in the Palace, and can befriend almost anyone he comes across. He is married to Marcie Olson and has two kids with her, Gretel and Hansel, but also adopted his best friends' daughter, Grady Yensey, after their untimely deaths defending Queen Adele.

Gavin Cohen was born in New York. Queens, to be exact. And that’s where he lives, it’s where he goes to school, it’s just not always where he works. For that, he takes the train wherever he’s gotta go in New York to play some gigs. He’s trying to make it as a musician and he’s starting young, he knew the odds were stacked against him but playing anything was helping. So it was a huge win when he got a gig at Dumbo Hall. And an even bigger win when he met Audrey Hope. Even meeting her boyfriend Aki didn’t dash that win, in fact, it might have even made it better.
