Tale: GATE part 3

A few hours passed and still they were not making good progress. Now Kurata was the one driving and Xio was still in the passenger front seat, still holding the baby in her arms. She was now feeding it with a formula H-12 gave her, allowing it to go peacefully back to sleep.

"Wow man, If I didn't know any better, I'd say you'd make a great mom." Xio looked at Kurata and actually blushed at the compliment. However, Kurata thought she was insulted and quickly panicked.

"Ah! Sorry man! I didn't mean to undermine your manhood or anything! You're as manly as they come!" Now Xio was insulted but she didn't correct Kurata as turning this into an argument might upset the baby she was holding. She instead sighed in disappointment.

"Just keep driving dumbass."

"Ah, yes sir... *sigh* thought is it really driving since we're going so slow."

"We could go faster but are you willing to take responsibility if these people get car sick?" Kurata then looked at the rearview mirror to see all the people there were currently inside the MGDB-4. Elderly, kids, pregnant women, and the injured were all there, they couldn't walk anymore so Xio gave the order to allow them to rest here until they got their strength back. A child looked at Xio in awe and even smiled and waved at her, she giggled and waved back at them.

"Besides, even if we speed up, the already tired horses pulling the villagers' carts will get left behind because of us."

"Ugh, I know that but still..."

"Quit your bitching, will you? Since when has complaining ever achieved anything good?"

"But still..." Xio then wacked Kurata in the back of the head but in doing so disturbed the baby so she had to rock it gently in her arms again.

"Just keep driving you fucking idiot."

"Ugh... yes boss... Huh? uh, Sir, are those crows circling something in front of us?"

"What?" Xio, then activated the enhancing lens mode on her helmet and was able to see in the far distance that there were indeed crows circling something. Xio then looked down to see a girl in a gothic dress on her, crouching on the ground, and smiling directly at them.

"Fuck, that is not a good sign."

"What do you mean?" kurata then got out his binoculars and looked through them, he quickly smiled and started blushing the moment he saw Rory.

"Oh wow! A goth-Loli! Jackpot!" Kurata was so excited that he looked at Xio in joy, only for his smile to fade when he faced her. Even under her helmet he could tell she was looking at him with disappointment and disgust.

"Wha- what? Can't fault a guy for his tastes, I'm a Loli-con!"

"... Isn't that just a cute way of saying Pedo?"

"Ah... no... uh... I mean... well no its... you see the difference is... uh.... um... huh... oh my god I'm a disgusting human being."

"Ugh, your damn right, you fucking freak." Xio then turned on her radio while Kurata started having an existential crisis about his fetishes.

"H-2 and H-5, can you hear me over?"

"We hear you, boss. Why did we stop?"

"We got an anomaly in front of us, possibly hostile. She's wearing some kind of gothic dress, she's got a big fucking axe on her shoulders, and there are crows circling her. She's got messenger of death written all over her and I'm thinking she's here to kill all the villagers. But this is just a theory, so go up ahead and check what her deal is."

"Copy that boss, moving up now." Thankfully it didn't take long for Kaneki and H-5 to move on ahead and in view of Xio. Once they got close enough, they started slowly approaching and raised up their rifles. Xio was watching closely to ensure that if Rory tried anything she would order everyone to activate the turrets on their MGDB-4's. However, one of the village kids started speaking and pointing at the girl. Xio quickly switched her translation collar so that she could understand the boy.

"What's up kid? What's wrong?"

"Big Brother! Why are those men raising their strange wands at the Apostle's big sister?"

"Apostle?"

"Yup! She's an Apostle of a god, though I can't remember which one. She's a good big sister who helps good people and punishes bad people. Please tell your soldiers in black armor not to hurt her! If they hurt her, she'll think they're bad people. but you're not, you saved us so you're good people!"

"Ah, shit! H-2 and H-5 be advised, I got some info from the locals, they're telling me that this girl is apparently an Apostle of some kind of God. She works under a banner of divine justice so if you fuck with her, she'll rip you apart. Lower your weapons and just try to talk to her. Over."

"Ah, copy that boss, over and out."

"Wooh, thanks for the save, little man."

"Big brother, what's Shit and Fuck mean?" Xio's eyes widened in horror at the sight of a young kid cursing so innocently. The older people in the MGDB-4 were shocked by this too and looked at Xio. They had looks of minor disappointment as they didn't want to be TOO angry at her since her men helped them escape but they still wanted her to know the shame of teaching a young boy something so awful. Xio then tried telling the boy he couldn't say those words as clearly as he could while Kurata was looking at her confused still having no idea how she could speak their language so fluently.

"Uh hello can you hear me?" Kaneki and H-5 did as Xio ordered and put their weapons away while also switching their translation collars to their native language. Rory just kept sitting there for a little while continuing to look at the cars before shifting her view to Kaneki.

"Yes, I can hear you, you're standing so close to me after all."

"Ah, sorry ma'am."

"It's no worry, please pay it no mind. Now down to business." Rory then stood up and brushed the dust off of her dress.

"I would like to know who you are and where you are taking these villagers?" Kaneki and H-5 then looked at each other, it seemed from Rory's choice of words alone that Xio's guess was right on the money. However, instead of confirming if they were wrong, H-5 ended up asking the wrong question.

"What if we don't want to tell you?" Rory then smirked and let the spear end of her axe fall hard onto the ground allowing the axe blade to raise in the air.

"Then I'll have to take them from you." Kaneki and H-5 backed off and raised their rifles, meanwhile Rory still just stood there and smirked deviously at them.

"You're not hurting these people!" Rory then looked at them confused which ended up confusing Kaneki and H-5.

"Hurt? Isn't that what you're trying to do?"

"What? No, we're trying to get them to safety."

"Oh? I thought you were bandits trying to take these people from their homes and sell them to slavery." Kaneki and H-5 then looked at one another and decided to relax knowing that Rory being a threat was just a misunderstanding.

"Huh, we thought you were some kind of harbinger of death that came to kill the villagers."

"A harbinger of death? Well, I am an Apostle of Emroy who is the god of death so technically you are correct. But I have no intention of harming innocent villagers, I only kill the wicked and sinful who dare forsake the sacred gift of life. Those are my enemies, so long as you never sink as low as them, I will be in your care."

"Oh, well in that case we're just going to head to our home base at Site-GATE. It should be fortified enough to keep these villagers safe from the fire dragon. So you don't need to worry about their safety." Upon hearing the words 'fire dragon', Rory was shocked again.

"A fire dragon? That's impossible, it's not supposed to wake up for at least another 50 years." Kaneki and H-5 looked at one another again, this was clearly something the higher ups needed to know about. If the fire dragon wasn't supposed to be awake, then that means it's an anomaly and the Foundation needs to do something.

"Well in that case we better get these folks to Site-Gate right away. So will you allow us to pass, ma'am?"

"Hm..."

"Uh, Ma'am?"

"What is your name?"

"Oh! Uh, I'm Sasaki Kaneki."

"And I'm Inoue Kaito."

"Interesting, never heard of such names. I am Rory Mercury. Now that we have introduced each other it's been decided."

"Wha- what? What's been decided?"

"I'll be coming with you." Rory then walked past Kaneki and Kaito toward the MGDB-4’s.

"Ah! Wait what?"

"Ma'am you can't come with us!" Rory then made the spear end of her axe stab the ground again this time with extra force to crack the floor and display her annoyance with the two MTF units.

"I thought I told you my name is Rory, please call me as such."

"Ah right."

"Furthermore, why exactly can't I come with you?"

"Ah, well... uh..."

"It's because you're not injured!"

"Oh, yes! You see we're already struggling to get these civilians to safety, we can't just take in one more person, it will all fall apart!"

"I'm truly sorry Rory, but please understand we have to prioritize the villagers."

"Oh, I see the issue here, you're under the impression I'll be a burden."

"Wha- well no Rory we just-"

"Well, you rude gentlemen, I am here to help you protect these fine people. Besides I'm curious to see what this Site-GATE is if it's the home of you strange travelers. black armor that covers everything, even the face, strange weapons in your hands, carriages that move without horses, I want to know how it all works. So, I'll be coming with you."

"But Rory, you can't just decide that on your own! We need-"

"Hey! Kids get back here!" Kaneki and Kaito then looked toward the MGB-4 to see a bunch of the village kids running joyfully toward Rory.

"Apostle big sister!"

"Big sister, are you coming with us?"

"Are you going to come with us to keep us safe from the fire dragon?!"

"Why yes I am, in fact these fine gentlemen said I was allowed to come along." Kaneki and Kaito were left speechless.

"Really?!"

"Big brothers in black armor! Can big sister really come?!"

"If we have both big sister Apostle and big brothers in black armor, that fire dragon will stand no chance!" The kids continued cheering and praising both the MTF units and Rory leaving Kaneki and Kaito standing there in silence. They then looked at each other with defeat, neither of them needed to take off their helmets to know they had similar expressions right now.

"Are we really going to break the hearts of all these little kids?"

"I'm pretty sure if we keep saying no to her, she'll just kill us."

"Yeah, and I have a feeling she'll be like SCP-682, even if we shoot her head, the worst it will do is piss her off."

"Ugh, hold on I got to report this to H-1, though I think she's just going to say that we'll figure it out when we get to Site-GATE."

"... God... Never thought I would miss running around fighting anomalies that could kill me in a second if I'm not careful."

After Xio received word that Rory would be coming with them she didn't say she was against it, but it was clear under her helmet she was fuming with anger. To make things more awkward Rory decided to sit on Itami's lap who was sitting in the back of the MGDB-4. Itami tried to keep her off him at first but stopped after Kaneki told him not to.

"Hey Itami, that girl is a harbinger of death, if you make her mad, she will kill you. So don't do anything to make her uncomfortable ok?" Itami was shocked by this, but he figured Kaneki wasn't kidding so he sighed and just sat there while Rory giggled joyfully, getting comfortable on his lap. Kurokawa was looking at Itami in disappointment, Kaneki was looking at Rory in disappointment, and Kaito as well as Xio were giggling at the sight of Itami in distress. However, Xio quickly noticed that Kurata was looking at Itami in envy, he then noticed Xio looking at him and groaning in anger. He then quickly slapped his face and looked forward again to drive while sweating in fear. Xio just grunted in disappointment as the drive continued in silence.

Somewhere in the back of the line the carriages were going extremely slow due to the horses being tired after walking for so long. Worst off the carriages were full so there was barely any room to ride on them. Most of the villagers were simply just walking, despite the fact that they were moving at an extremely slow pace they were all still extremely tired. A mother with her son was walking along the road. She was so tired, and her son was so thirsty. Suddenly she noticed one of the MTF units and smiled. Xio and her men were helping the village earlier so she was sure this one would help too.

"Ah! You there, excuse me."

"... What the fuck do you want?" The woman was startled by H-18's sudden hostility, but she held onto hope it was only his language that was rude.

"Uh, my son is thirsty and we're both very tired. I was hoping you could help us."

"I ain't a fucking humanitarian bitch! You carry your own weight or else you'll fucking die out here."

"Wha... but please! We can't walk anymore!"

"Yeah, bitch?! I missed the part where that's my problem!" The boy then started crying and the mother quickly leaned down to try to comfort him, however in mere seconds, her son wasn't in front of her anymore. To the mother's horror the H-18 had punched her son hard in the face making him fall and causing him to spit his own teeth out.

"Shut the fuck up your worthless brat!"

"You hit my son! You monster! What is wrong with-?!" Suddenly the mother was in the air for H-18 had punched her in the stomach. His punch was so hard that not only did it make her fly in the air but once she fell to the ground her spine shattered and she started puking blood.

"Ugh, worthless fucking rodents." H-18 then looked around and saw the villagers all looking at him in horror.

"What the fuck are all you rat's looking at?!" The villagers quickly looked away and kept on moving, now being motivated by fear. However, one villager made a fatal mistake and tried to run away but H-18 shot him in the middle of the field before he could get far. The rest of the villagers didn't bother watching, they just kept silent and tried to keep moving. However once some of the villagers were out of H-18's sight they quickly started talking.

"What the hell was that?"

"I don't understand, I thought the soldiers in black armor were here to save us."

"Damn it, have we been tricked?"

"What’s going to happen to us?"

"They're probably going to enslave us when we arrive at their fortress."

"Well maybe it won't be so bad, so long as we obey it should be better than dealing with the... FLAME DRAGON!" Everyone looked up and it was true, the flame dragon was right there flying over the sky and looking right at them. It quickly swooped down and ripped through several people while eating the rest whole. Now all of the villagers were running in fear while the MTF and JSDF units quickly started firing at the Dragon.

"Fuck! Boss the Fire dragon is here!"

"God damn it all units! Shoot that damn lizard straight to hell! Activate the MGDB-4 turrets!" All units did as ordered and started firing on the dragon while driving around to keep it confused on where to attack. The JSDF units were quick to help as well, they were all either in one of the vehicles or on the ground trying to get the civilians out of the way. However, that was not the case for all of them the Foundationist's like H-3, H-11, and H-18 they just pushed civilians out of the way and were even laughing at the sight of some of them burning to death.

Xio noticed them and glared in anger but quickly shook her head as there was a much bigger threat to worry about. She then looked back to the dragon and was glad to see it was in pain due to all the shooting. The JSDF rifles weren't doing anything, and the Foundation rifles were only leaving minor dents on the scales of the dragon. However, the turrets on the MGDB-4's were doing quite some visible damage. It was able to blast through the scales and even left some holes in the dragon's wings. However, the damage was not enough to make the Dragon actually suffer or be afraid, if anything it was getting more and more pissed off. The Fire dragon then flew up in the air and opened its mouth to breathe out more fire.

"Fuck! Throw your grenades now!" All the MTF units in the vehicles or who were close enough to the dragon did as ordered and threw their missile grenades. As the name implied rather than just falling where they landed, they flew toward the dragon, and it was instantly bombarded. The Villagers were shocked at the sight but assumed it was some kind of unique magic. Lelei was especially excited to see it, though her expression didn't change, instead her eyes sparkled with excitement. The JSDF units on the other hand were left breathless at the sight, they had never seen grenades that could fly towards an enemy. Itami was especially shocked at the sight but then Kaneki hit him on the back of the head.

"What are you doing? Keep firing!"

"Ah right sorry!" The Dragon was now bleeding everywhere with all the explosions, but it was still up and alive, in fact it looked even angrier than before.

"No, the eye!" The both of them then turned to see Tuka wrapped in a blanket and shouting at them, Kaneki quickly switched the mode of his translation collar to reply.

"Ma'am! Get back! Let us fight the dragon!"

"You don't understand! You have to shoot its eye!" Tuka pointed at her eye to further drive in her point, however before Kaneki could report it Itami grabbed his own radio to call his JSDF units.

"Everyone! Aim for that bastard's eye!" Soon all the JSDF units did as Itami ordered and started firing at the Dragons face while the MTF units were still aiming at random parts of the dragon. This surprisingly ended up working out for the better as the Dragon was unable to protect all its wounds exposed by the explosion as well as its eye. It did make sure to prioritize its eye and thus left the rest of its body exposed. Eventually out of frustration the Dragon just started running away and flew into the sky once it was a good enough distance away.

"Is... Is it over."

"Whew... Good thing I didn't have to use the Panzerfaust." The MTF's who heard this looked at Katsumoto in shock which quickly turned into silent anger.

"You had a rocket launcher this whole time and you didn't use it?"

"... I mean... these things are dangerous, you know."

"MORE DANGEROUS THAN A FUCKING FIRE DRAGON?!" The MTF next to Katsumoto then slapped him on the back of the head out of anger.

"Alright that's enough! The battle is over but not the conflict! Let's get these people back on their feet and get the hell out of here!"

Xio was now out of her vehicle and started walking around and giving out orders on who to help and with what. Kaneki and Itami were actually right beside her with Kaneki acting as her extra eyes and Itami as her voice for the JSDF units. While she was doing this, she was still holding the baby which was crying, and she was trying to calm it down.

"Ah! My baby! That's my..." A distressed woman ran toward Xio but as soon as she saw Xio's armor she was shocked. She saw H-18 cripple that woman earlier and break all the teeth of her son, so she was instantly under the impression that Xio was no better.

"Oh, I remember you, glad to see you made it, here you go ma'am." However, to her shock Xio was handing her baby back to her, in a gentle manner so as to not disturb the baby no less. The woman then took her baby back and looked at Xio, still slightly confused.

"Uh, thank you."

"All in a day's work ma'am, be careful now." The mother nodded to show more thanks, she then lifted the top part of her clothing to nurse the baby. Itami tried watching but Xio, who knew what he was trying to do, pulled him by the collar and made him follow.

"A woman nursing, even in public, is perfectly natural, don't go making it perverted."

"Hmph... Yes sir. I'll be sure to apologize to her later."

"... I wasn't really expecting you idiots to be so nice and kind."

"Oh yeah? Are we surpassing your expectations?"

"Don't get ahead of yourself Itami, we still have to get to Site-GATE and there's no guarantee our superiors will approve of pardoning you and your team." Xio kept walking however she then heard a loud thump behind her. She and Kaneki turned around to see Itami bowing to them.

"Please make it a guarantee, Sir. I'll do anything to ensure the safety of my team and these villagers."

"Ah! Get up you idiot I'm not a god or some shit like that!" Itami then got up, but he was still looking at Xio with the expression like he was silently pleading with her for the lives of everyone here.

"Ugh, if you're really serious then be sure to say that to my superiors once we get back. The Foundation is always willing to extend mercy to anyone who proves their worth." Itami bowed to show his thanks but afterwards scratched his head in defeat. He knew the only thing he personally was good for was running away.

After most of the work was taken care of the JSDF units were in the middle of the field praying for the dead villagers. The villagers and MTF units were looking at them in confusion as none of the JSDF units died so there was no logical reason for them to grieve. Kaneki wanted to do the same but couldn't waste time as Xio was still giving out orders to help people.

Afterwards the JSDF and MTF units got back to helping the villagers as they were getting ready to hit the road again. Meanwhile, Rory was with Lelei as the two of them were walking around and watching the JSDF and MTF units helping the villagers however they could. Lelei especially took notice in that the JSDF were only doing grunt work while the MTF units were spreading medical supplies and tending to the injured. Kurokawa was also trying to help but the medicine she was using wasn't working as fast or effectively as the ones H-11 and H-12 were using.

"Strange, they were together when they picked up the people of my village, but they act nothing like one another. The Soldiers in Green and the Soldiers in Black I mean."

"Indeed, it's almost like the two groups are from completely different worlds."

"Even stranger, only recently the Soldiers in green started to help. Earlier they just sat with binds on their hands and feet. Like they were prisoners, but now they're helping the villagers and Soldiers in Black Armor like it's second nature to them."

"Really? That is odd. But that's just all the more reason to go to this Site-GATE everyone keeps talking about. I never thought in all my life span I would ever be surprised again. Yet here I am experiencing new things that would make even the gods confused."

"Fuck off bitch!" However, the two of them then turned their attention to H-18 who was harassing yet another woman.

"You monster! I saw it! You used my husband to shield yourself from that monster's flames!"

"It's not like he was good for anything else you dumb fuck!" H-18 then slapped her across the face making her fall to the ground. The woman looked up searching for someone to help her but all she saw was scared villagers and MTF units who were laughing at her pain.

"You useless rat! I'm gonna bash your fucking face in!"

"N- no. No please! I'm pregnant!"

"Really? Then I'll rip your fucking fetus out and make you choke on it!" In the next second H-18's head was gone leaving the MTF units who were laughing before now in shock.

"What the fuck?!"

"You would do something so vile as kill an unborn child while it's still in the wombs of a defenseless mother? You are beyond redemption and deserve nothing both death in the name of Emroy!"

"Fuck you bitch!"

"Kill her!" Both MTF's tried to fire but Rory jumped high in the air forcing them to aim up and shoot at her. However even their AP bullets couldn't pierce her axe as she used it as a shield. She quickly landed on one of them and sliced their head off, the other tried to gain some distance before shooting again but Rory threw her axe at him, and he ended up getting stabbed by the spear end right through the heart. Rory then grabbed her axe and smiled at a good harvest for Emroy however when she looked back to Lelei she was horrified to see her, and two other villagers being held hostage by MTF units.

"Drop the fucking axe you stupid bitch!"

"Drop it right now or we'll kill these fucking rats!"

"You really think we won't you dumb fuck?!" Rory glared at them in anger, but she did as the demanded and dropped her axe. However, she quickly smiled as she could see what was behind them.

"Huh? What are you-?" Lelei then raised her staff to the face of the MTF holding her hostage and in an instance his head exploded.

"What the fuck?!"

"Kill this blue haired fu-" Before the other MTF unit could finish his head was stabbed by the spear end of Rory's axe. However, neither she nor Lelei was fast enough to stop the last one from killing the last villager. They would have been forced to watch an innocent die if Kaneki hadn't shot him in the head in time. Kaneki then ran over to Lelei.

"Ma'am! Are you alright! Did they hurt you?!" Lelei's expression didn't change, instead she just hugged him in silence. Rory smirked at sight, however her smile faded when she saw Xio, H-3, and Itami running toward them.

"What the fuck is going on?!" Lelei let go of Kaneki and he looked at her in confusion wondering the same thing.

"Your men attacked these innocent villagers, so I acted accordingly. If that troubles you-" Rory, then raised her axe right at Xio.

"-then you're free to join them."

"... You fucking-" Xio stopped H-3 from grabbing his pistol, Xio then saw the Village chief who had just shown up to see the situation and smirked as this was a perfect opportunity.

"No need, they were killed by the fire dragon after all." Rory was confused by what Xio was saying as well as everyone else, H-3 on the other hand was completely shocked.

"Wha- boss?!"

"You all saw it. The fire dragon ripped them all to pieces, but we already scared the bastard off so there's nothing that can be done."

"Tha- that's bullshit! This fucking bitch killed them so do your damn job and-" Xio then raised her fist right to H-3's face and her hidden blade extended to toward his neck.

"You heard Rory, if you have a fucking problem, then take it up with her." H-3 raised his hands in defeat, he then looked at Rory who smirked at him. H-3 grunted, backed off, and walked away.

"Hm... But yeah, the fire dragon definingly killed them all so there's nothing that can be done, right H-2?"

"Uh, yes Boss!"

"Right Itami?"

"Uh, yes Sir."

"Right Village Chief?"

"Uh... of- of Course Lord in Black Armor."

"Right Rory?"

"... I don't lie for anyone's sake so if someone asks, I will simply nod with the rest of you and say nothing."

"Good enough for me, Itami! You should probably get your guys to help these villagers since I don't think they'll want any help from my guys."

"Uh sure... but I think Kurokawa is running out of medicine."

"Feel free to use H-11's suitcase, he won't mind."

"Ok then, where's he?" Xio then pointed at one of the decapitated corpses, sure enough his Foundation Medical case was still in his hand. Itami went pale at the sight of his corpse, he agreed that those soldiers deserved to die for what they tried to do but that didn't calm his stomach at all.

"Oh, by the way tell her she's going to need this too." Xio then placed X-11's head in Itami's hands making him lose all of his colors.

"The visor on the helmet is a computer screen, it will tell her what medicine she needs from the case." Xio then walked away and patted Itami on the shoulder for good luck. Itami sighed in despair as he knew he was not only holding a decapitated head, but he was going to have to get the case from H-11's dead hands. As Xio walked off she saw that Kaneki was still trying to see if Lelei was ok. From what she heard; Kaneki was actually 16 which was only two years younger than the permitted age for enlistment into the JSDF where he was recruited. She didn't really know what age Lelei was but if she was the same age or close to his age then it would really make her smile.

"Wait Lord in Black Armor! Please wait." Xio then stopped to see the village chief of Coda village running towards her.

"Hey, chief you can just call me Xio, I'm not a lord, I'm just the boss."

"Uh, but isn't that the same thing?"

"Ah... Anyways, what do you need?"

"I'm mainly just confused. Why are you ok with your own men dying? I mean I understand it's foolish to argue with her holiness but still. It's strange for soldiers of the same banner to not have any sort of bond."

"I'm actually wondering that as well." The two of them then saw Rory walking toward them, the village chief was a little spooked by her presence while Xio was still calm.

"I have no intention of apologizing for killing your men. I'm just confused on why you are willing to lie to your superiors. Is it really for my sake or was it something else?"

"... Those guys were Foundationists."

"Foundation... ists?"

"It means they don't value the lives of others; I do. So naturally despite us both having the same superiors, they were my enemies." Rory and the village chief looked at one another in confusion.

"Look, it's complicated to understand, so I'll just get to the point. Some of my superiors are also Foundationists so it's possible Site-GATE won't actually be the salvation I promised you chief. If anything, it's going to be like a coin toss. On one hand my superiors will probably protect your villagers. On the other hand, they could very well make your lives a living nightmare. "Hm... I'll have to talk with the other chiefs about this. I'll tell you our decision later." The village chief then walked away, leaving Rory and Xio alone.

"What about you Rory?"

"I don't mean to offend, but I don't need your protection."

"I wouldn't underestimate Dr. Egao, he doesn't need physical strength to overpower his victims."

"I'm not afraid of some corrupt lord. Besides, if the Villagers decide to continue to this Site-GATE of yours, someone will need to protect them all."

"... Does that mean I can count on you to get everyone out of there if Dr. Egao decides to kill everyone."

"... You seem truly scared of this Dr. Egg-aeo. Are there any superiors you can trust?"

"Pfft, ahem, it's Egao, and yes actually. There's MTF High Commander Yōsai and Administrative Staff Member Kai."

"I'm not familiar with those titles but by the sounds of it, they sound higher than this Dr. Egao."

"Technically they are but Dr. Egao knows how to pull the strings in his favor. He's also got two 05 Council members on his side; he's basically blessed with the hand of god."

"A man can claim to be blessed by god with all the riches and power of the world, but he too will tremble when confronted by the wrath of a true god."

"Is that a gospel of Emroy or something?"

"No, just something I made up on the spot when I killed a corrupt lord 400 years ago. I was proud of myself for saying something so divine sounding that I like to quote myself everything I come across as a corrupted ruler that deserves nothing less than death."

"400 years?! How old are you?" Rory pouted in annoyance, walked up to Xio, and flicked the forehead of her helmet.

"You shouldn't ask a girl her age, especially if you want to marry her." Rory then smiled seductively at Xio. Xio was a lesbian but there was no way she would fall for a little girl, or in this case a woman who looked like a little girl but was actually more than 400 years old. But the real tie breaker was-

"I'm already married." Xio raised up her hand, took off her glove, and sure enough there was a ring. Rory was shocked by this, but her expression quickly changed to disappointment. However, Rory then noticed Itami who was walking past them, looking exhausted and had a black eye from Kurokawa. Rory smiled, ran up to him, and grabbed him by the collar, and dragged him to Xio's MGDB-4 so she could sit on his lap again. Xio sighed in disappointment, she now had a rough estimate of Rory's age, but it still looked wrong for a little girl to be with a middle-aged man.

"What?! Leave them to God?!" The village chief was done talking to the other villagers and village chiefs and they ultimately decided to leave the elderly, injured, and their children. He ended up breaking the news to Xio.

"I know it sounds cruel but thanks to that damn dragon we only have so many carts now. We just can't afford to carry the injured with us. At least their children and families are staying with them. I know you said that coming to Site-GATE was no different to a coin toss and... Well... If you're willing to take them with you, then I'll be praying to the gods that the coin lands in your favor."

"... Leave it to us, may we meet again Village Chief." The village chief raised his hand for a handshake, but Xio hugged him instead. He was deeply confused by the hug but accepted it and gave his goodbyes to the MTF units, the JSDF units, and the injured villagers. Afterwards the villagers got their supplies, carts, and left; meanwhile, the JSDF units ran to the edge of the field and started waving them goodbye.

"Aren't those Soldiers in Green a little too nice? Why the hell would they be so willing to help villagers like us?"

"I'm mainly glad they're a lot nicer than those Soldiers in Black."

"Yeah, that still shocked me, I saw how one of those bastards left that poor boy without teeth and his mother without a spine after only two punches. Then they both got eaten by that fire dragon... may Hardy show mercy."

"Yet the other Soldiers in Black didn't take revenge when her holiness cut them down."

"Did you expect them too? It's basically suicide trying to kill an Apostle."

"Well, it's also suicide to kill a fire dragon yet they managed to make the monster flee in terror."

"I was actually there when her holiness cut down those black armored bastards and when their Lord showed up he was... surprisingly fine with it. Almost like he hated them."

"... Man, what a bunch of weird fellows, all of them."

"Must be knights or lords or something. It would explain why they have the luxury to be nice to strangers and are perfectly ok with watching each other die. Nobility can be very scary; be grateful we were born commoners."

"Ha well said, praise Miritta!"

Itami, Xio, and Kaneki were now facing the remaining villagers which were either the injured or their family members who chose to stay with them. Xio ended up being the one to step forward since she was the Captain of the MTF units and since she had a translation collar.

"Alright everyone, we're heading back to Site-GATE. Now that our numbers are lower, we'll be able to get there before the day is over."

"Big brother in black armor, will we really be safe at Site-GATE?" Xio then hesitated to speak as she knew the moment Dr. Egao saw them all he would give the order to have the villagers used as target practice. He would then regulate Xio and her team to D-Class as punishment for bringing civilians to a Foundation Site. Xio was betting the villager's safety entirely on the mercy of MTF High Commander Yōsai and Administrative Staff Member Kai but even that wasn't a guarantee.

"Sure! Just leave it to us!" Xio was shot out of her train of thought and looked to her left to see Itami with the translation collar. She then looked to her right to see a disappointed looking Kaneki shrugging as he had no translation collar. Xio sighed in annoyance, she was glad to see spirits of the villagers raised but she'd prefer it not being based on false hope. Xio then stepped forward before Itami could say anything else.

"Yeah, we'll do everything in our power to keep you all safe, housed, and fed, but please, if anything goes wrong. Run to Rory, she will keep you all safe." All the villagers were confused as they turned toward Rory who was smiling at them all. The younger ones including that one kid that kept calling Xio "big brother" nodded while the adults were confused on why Xio was so invested in keeping them all safe.

"Alright then! Let's start going to Site-GATE!"
