Headcanon: Garth Marenghi and Gordy Lasure exist in the same universe.

I love the idea of these meta pieces of media that are basically linked through Richard Ayoade being part of the same universe.

Also imagine Garth and Gordy talking to each other, or Gordy critiquing the new 'Darkplace' film. They would spar with each other so aggressively.

Like, the animation is iffy and missing frames here and there, and the dialogue feels like a constant running reference to Jaden Smith that only people who know Jaden Smith will get, but honestly?

The pieces are there. They have the right ingredients. But they... didn’t put them together right. And it’s so dissatisfying. If it’s a self-critiquing meta-commentary on the anime genre, I’d rather it was an ironic, postmodern, kind of sarcastic ‘Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place’ affair where you both know it’s going wrong and enjoy the ride. Not this entirely sincere, played straight metamodern work that takes itself too seriously.
