Girls Night | Garrett Garrison x Reader
QUICK A/N â so, i havenât written in over three years, but there is one garrett fic and i NEED. more content of this man. this was originally supposed to be uploaded to ao3 and ao3 only but i remembered old friends have that account so i will wait here until i can make a new account LOL. anyway, i hope you enjoy. be kind. its been so long since ive been here hahahaaâŠâŠ
After spending your days with few close relationships, your time in the overworld had changed that for the better. Now, you found yourself in a happy little group of six. Sure, the age gaps were a bit... humorous, but you were all like a little family. Of everyone, though, you were closest to the "Garbage Man" himself. You two had been close even before all the blocky nonsense. But that was it, wasnât it? Friends.
Garrett, Henry, and Steve were all off doing their "guy businessâ not that you had any interest in joining them. You didnât mind one bit, especially after Dawn had suggested you, her, and Natalie spend some time together instead.
"I mean, those three are always running off doing God knows what," she said. "Why donât we have a little fun, too?" She had a point. After hours of brainstorming some crazy ideas for a girls' night out, you all decided to stay in. You worked full-time jobs, going crazy late at night? Nah, not for us.
The night had gone by smoothly, lots of giggles, jokes, and gossip. Fun stuff, right? But it wasnât long before the conversation shifted to the guys. It all started with Natalie talking about Henry, how happy she was that heâd finally started to fit in and make friends. Dawn turned to you.
âCome on, Y/N. Youâve known Garbage Man for how long? How do you do it? The guyâs a total loser.â You stifled a laugh behind your hand. She was totally rightâGarrett was the biggest loser youâd ever met. And in a weird way? You really liked that about him.
âOkay, okay! Back when we were younger, he was likeâthe coolest guy ever. Iâm serious! Donât laugh!â
Dawn and Natalie were howling at this. They were both well aware of Garrettâs so-called celebrity status, how could they not? Itâs all the man talks about. But cool? Garrett? Really? You knew the guy was somewhat of a loser, but him being cool wasnât that surprising!
âWith the way he followed you around like a lost puppy back in the overworld, for a second I thought you two were a thing.â
The comment caught you off guard, your face going red as you nearly choked on your drink. Natalie and Dawn exchanged a quick glance before turning back to you. Their reaction told you everythingâthey knew something, and they werenât going to let you live this down.
âYou guys are totally nuts. He didnât know any of you, and we were in some random dimension, honest!â Wow, as if you couldnât seem more suspicious. Natalie rolled her eyes. âBut he sure did look cozy with Henry, you know, the kid heâd known for less than a day? And donât get me started on Steveââ
Okay. Sheâd got you there. You didnât have a valid argument. But honestly? Youâd never even considered your relationship with Garrett that way.
You were lost in your thoughts until Dawn placed her hands on your shoulders, snapping you back to reality. âListen, as much as I hate that self-centered dud, even I know he really likes you, Y/N. And donât get me wrong, I do love to play matchmaker!â
Natalie and Dawn giggled together like two high school girls scheming to get their friend to confess to a crush. You appreciated their enthusiasm, but wasnât this moving a little fast? Was it really that obvious to everyone but you
Lost in your thoughts again, you replayed every small memory you had with Garrett.
He was always doing things to get your attention or approval, trying to âprotectâ you when mobs approached in the overworld, getting you small gifts and trinkets when his wallet allowed it. But that was just friendly stuff, right? Stuff people do for friends theyâve known for ages, right? Well, sure, but Dawn and Natalie insisted it was more than that. Garrett wasnât shy, he would do those things for anyone. But the small things he did for you... those were things he hadnât done for anyone else.

Steve X Reader X Garrett - [Best of Both Worlds]
SFW, GN!Reader, canon-faithful writing and fun times all around
Steve hasnât had much action in his life, relationship wise. Always alienated in school, maybe had a few flings in adulthood, but people always sought him out for a good time rather than a real commitment⊠But then there was you.
Something about you, when you stumbled into the Overworld alongside your other roundling friends⊠You stood out, not in the way that Henry did but⊠Something else.
Dawn and Natalie were indifferent, Garrett was more than infuriating, but you were a surprising addition to the crew in the fact that you took a shine to him and his architecture almost instantly.
When he spoke you listened, even seemed impressed with his talent. No one else seemed to care about the time and effort that went into this world, most of it being done by his hand. It was nice to feel appreciated, to feel seen.
As a modern gamer yourself you took to the mechanics of the world almost instantly, Steve was almost flustered albeit impressed. He'd be in the middle of explaining something as simple as a crafting table with his usual gusto, and then boom! You'd just make one yourself. Tools? Easy. Armor? Easier! And mining... Hoo boy, he had to keep you from strip mining through an entire mountain, despite how much he'd love to join.
"You found iron already?! It took me forever to get out of the stone age!"
Since you weren't such a try-hard like Gar-Gar he was happy to nurture you and Henry's creative impulses, though the Garbage Man himself was rather jealous of how quickly you got a handle on things (and especially how you got ahold of Steve's attention. He couldn't tell who he was more jealous of, truthfully).
During a late night campfire session you even had it in you to ask about his life before the Overworld.
âSteve..?â
âYeeeees?â
âWhat was your life like before the Overworld..? I know you said it was boring and all, but what made you choose to stay here for so long?â
If you didnât know any better youâd think he was running from something.
He drew a deep breath in as he laid next to you under the stars, pursing his lips together. Despite being such a silly guy, you could tell there was a lot more going on underneath his braggadocios exterior.
âIn my world⊠Well, our world, I was very lonely. I knew no one would miss me, so I stayed here where I found purpose. There was nothing I couldnât do, nothing I couldnât build⊠The sky's the limit. You know how expensive it is to build a house in the real world, kid?â
His tone was joking but he wasnât necessarily wrong, it was a cruel world outside of the cubes.
âYeah, I know⊠Sucks not having more people like you around though. The real world sure could use a Steve or two.â
He chuckled, hands clasped over his tummy, but his laughter was short lived when he heard a fake gag coming from the tent you originally shared with Garrett.
âUgh, are you two sapheads gonna be up all night? Tryinâ to get some beauty sleep in here!â
Garrett had not been a fan of how close you and Steve had become over the course of this adventure. At all.
Leading up to the discovery of the portal, Garrett had been scheming of ways to ask you out without making it seem too obvious.
Your job had you fly out to Chuglass for a higher position in the company, but once you got there you found out the position they offered had already been taken somehow. This was after youâd already spent your savings moving and flying of course, so you were actively trying to save up so that you could get back home soon.
You swung by his store pretty often to sell some of your old junk, you knew he was lowballing you so youâd either have to heckle or concede to seeing one of your previously precious relics up on the shelf for double the price you sold it a week later.
Even so, this had become somewhat of a ritual for the two of you. As more of your boxes made the trip across the country youâd visit again, the cycle would continue. Although he was a stingy ass, there was an odd charm to him that you couldnât quite place. Something that drew you back to the store far more than the prices.
As you leafed through some of the used CDs he kept replaying scenarios in his head, trying to figure out how heâd go about asking you on a date.
âHey person who I argue with and resell shit from constantly, wanna go on a date? Not like you have many other guys to select from since most everyone else around here is a middle aged loon!â
âNo, no, thatâs terribleâŠâ He murmured right as you had pulled out a CD you were interested in.
You shot him a glare in response, presuming he was judging your music taste.
âNo, not you,â He waved his hand dismissively, shaking his head. Before the two of you could get into it, Hank walked in and the whole cube thing happened. There went his one and only shot of asking you out prior to this fiasco, and he blew it just like he does everything else.
It's not as though it got particularly better in the Overworld either, left and right he kept making a fool of himself.
While you excelled at crafting, mining, and combat, he was bumbling around like an oaf trying to talk to sheep and wielding buckchuckets. He'd never been more embarrassed, and exceedingly unwilling to admit it at that.
He wagered that he must look like a real dumbass in your eyes. A real Boo Boo the Fool. That may have been true to some degree, but unbeknownst to him it only endeared him to you more.
The lengths he'd go just to one-up you and Steve were comical, it was kind of cute seeing him act so cocky and then pout right after when it went awry.
You wanted to console him deep down, but you knew that would just make him feel justified in his petty antics so you refrained, wrestling back a bemused smile all the while.
Steve felt the same exact way, even if his macho exterior wouldn't allow such sentiments to bleed through.
I mean, when was the last time he had another man his age around? Even with Garrett's hidden indentions, Steve enjoyed their little banter and pseudo-rivalry. There was no competition really, but it was nice to see him try!
And, while the average observer may think Steve was annoyed or felt disrespected, it was truly the opposite. You may have recognized Steve from a different angle, but Garrett quintessentially met him on his level. Mano y mano, if you will. He saw him as a worthy competitor and acted accordingly, he didn't treat him like some dopey accountant who couldn't do anything for himself, no! He treated him like a man... Steve liked that.
With all of this in mind, it still didn't prevent tensions from rising. You and Garrett got into a spat that night at the campsite, since he conveniently liked to act up when you and Steve were having genuine moments together. The night ended with you switching to Steve's tent, MUCH to Gar-Gar's dismay, and the very next day a brawl broke out at the nearby village that caused you to separate from him, Steve, and Henry.
Dawn and Natalie tried to comfort you as best they could, Nat being pretty oblivious to the obvious romantic tension sizzling like hot lava chicken between you and the other two men on the team.
"I'm just worried about them, we left things off really shitty... Me and Garrett, then you and Henry... It's like we just can't stop fighting..."
"Ugh, that toolbag could start a fight with a baby if he wanted to. He'll get over it, and Henry... I just want him to be safe right now. I think... Well, I hope Steve can do at least that..." She seemed to be lost in thought as she helped you row the boat you crafted while Dawn read the map.
"There's a fork up ahead... We need to take a right..." Dawn murmured as she studied the details of the map, furrowing her brows at the big red section up ahead. Maybe the woodland mansion was past the mushroom forest..? Could be possible...
The ride was quiet for the most part, but while you and the girls were peacefully sailing the boys were fighting for their lives trying to out-fly the piglins. Sadly you had to miss out on Steve and Garrettâs midair kiss, but you never anticipated that youâd only reunite with one of them later in your journey.
Steve laid there motionless on the bed with Dennis curled up at the foot of it, the rise and fall of his chest being the only sign of life. He was healed, peaceful, and he looked so beautiful just lying there beneath the sun and getting some proper rest⊠His survival brought you peace, but he lack of a certain someoneâs presence was still very concerning.
After a while of you sitting at his bedside Dennis got up and began to lick Steveâs beard, the old man slowly stirring and eventually giggling at the ticklish feeling. âDennis! Itâs really you!â He sat up and gave his faithful companion some good scritches, grinning at the pooch. As he turned to you his expression softened, not necessarily in a bad way just⊠Different.
âAnd you, Y/NâŠâ
He looked like he wanted to say something more, but he knew now wasnât the time⊠The battle wasnât over, and he already knew what your first words to him were going to be.
âWhereâs Garrett?â
âGar-Gar, heâsâŠâ He trailed off.
Nat, who was seated next to Henry on his bed, looked over at you with a grave expression.
âI donât know,â Steve finished softly, casting his brown eyes onto the ground. âHe fought bravely, but the piglins had us surrounded. He⊠Sacrificed himself to save Henry and I. He lived and unalived like the warrior he was.â He nodded solemnly as you covered your mouth, tears welling up in your eyes. âN-No, it canât beâŠâ
He put a hand on your shoulder tentatively, he half expected you to shrink away but to his surprise you threw yourself onto him, crying into the crook of his neck and holding him tight. He hated to see you this way, but he also felt honored that youâd choose him as a source of comfort. He ran his calloused hands along your back doing his best to console you. He was pretty torn up about it himself, but he didnât want you to see that side of him yet. Garrett wouldnât want him crying over it anyway.
Dawn and Natalie did their best to be supportive while you were grieving, hell even Henry was trying to cheer you up. There was nothing they could do though, as the only thing that could sate your sadness was bloodshed and revenge.
You crafted yourself a pair of diamond nunchucks in Garrettâs honor, making it your mission to tear through every piglin in sight. In your rage youâd adopted some of Garrettâs mannerisms and cockiness, even stealing some frags from Natalie as you fought alongside her. It was annoying but you were going through it, and it was too late to argue with too many important things on the line right now.
With the raging emotions at the forefront of your mind, you didn't think to question sending Henry to go get the orb despite being the only child on the team. He was the only one not drowning in pork right now, so you kept up the good fight while he scaled the nether portal by his lonesome. Although it seemed the war had been won, a blast from The Great Hog sent Henry flying. The thought of losing another team member so soon after the other sent a pang of shock through your chest, but that wasn't going to happen... Not on Garrett's watch.
The Garbage Man swooped in valiantly, saddled beneath a Ghast using his arms to steer the beast.
For a second you couldn't tell who it was, but upon recognizing that pink tasseled jacket and long flowing hair it dawned on you that your brave knight managed to beat the odds and survive!
After him and Hank's brief reunion and acquisition of the orb. you called for him--nay--screamed for him, shouting his name until he landed nearby.
As the piglins crumbled around you he came running, hugging you first out of everyone else. He swooped you up and swung you around, laughing like a madman.
"I thought I'd never see you again..!" Everyone aside from Steve, who was busy finishing off Malgosha, surrounded you in preparation for the epic group hug that was about to happen. They wanted you two to have your moment first though.
"Y yo tu, which is... Me too, in Spanish," He placed a rough hand on the side of your face, caressing your cheek with his thumb as he gazed down at you lovingly.
"Te amo," You murmured softly.
"... Whuh?"
"Te amo," You reiterated.
He nodded, though still maintained a confused expression.
"That means I love you in Spanish," You raised a brow at him, your wistful smile curling into a frown.
"OHHH right, right... Yeah, love you too babe," He leaned down to give you an amorous kiss, his scruffy beard tickling your face as he held the back of your head firmly.
Henry gagged jokingly, Natalie crossed her arms and shook her head, and Dawn simply smiled and nodded. "Oh, I been knew somethin' was goin' on with those two."
Just when the kiss began to last long enough to get awkward, Steve arrived in what remained of his diamond armor, a solemn look on his face. He cleared his throat when he grew near, prompting you and the Garbage Man to separate. The two of you looked at each other and then at Steve, happy and yet... Almost guilty.
He smiled, it was pained, but a smile nonetheless.
"It's about time, you two... You always bickered like an old married couple," He glanced at the two of you as he knelt down to pet and sing to Dennis, a truly heartfelt farewell ballad. You and Garrett held hands the whole way through, but you knew things didn't have to end this way.
Garrett untangled his fingers from yours to approach Steve, the two of them locking arms like they did when they first met. "I respect your decision to stay, but out there I don't have too many, uh, friends my own age."
Steve shook his head, "Nah, you'll be fine. You have Y/N now," He gestured his head towards you, wearing an expression of defeat. Garrett had beat him in the battle to win your heart, fair and square... That's what he thought at least.
"Go on home Gar-Gar, you two can keep each other warm on winter nights, take Dennis to the beach during the summer, all that fun stuff..."
To your surprise, Garrett held Steve's face just as he had held yours, swiping his thumb in the same way.
"If you say so brochacho, but if you ask me... Every good movie series is a trilogy. Think about that," He released him, gaze lingering on the turquoise bloused male for a little too long before hooking an arm around your shoulder and walking towards the portal with you.
Natalie's parting words and yours from the campsite lingered with him as he watched you and the gang walk away together, the gears slowly beginning to shift in his mind.
"We could use some of that magic in the real world."
"The real world sure could use a Steve or two."
"Every good movie series is a trilogy. Think about that."
He took one last look at the Overworld, something told him this wouldn't be his last time here but for now...
"Ah, screw it. It's about time I craft something in the real word that I can call mine."
He ran after you guys and into the portal, nearly tripping into you and Garrett on his way out.
"Steve!" Everyone shouted in unison, crowding around him and suffocating him in one big hug. While the others pulled away you and Gar-Gar looked at each other knowingly, nodded, and then each planted a big wet kiss on each side of Steve's face--much to his surprise.
His face flushed as brightly as redstone, whipping his head back and forth to look at you both in disbelief. "What the--?! Y-You two... This whole time?!"
"I thought it was kinda obvious, I just didn't say anything," Henry shrugged and walked off ahead of everyone else, having no desire to sit here and watch all three of his mentors kiss at the same time. "I second that," Dawn agreed, staying by his side to make sure he didn't wander off again. "I... Honestly had no idea," Nat sighed, rubbing the back of her neck, lingering briefly before letting you three have some proper alone time in the mines together.
"Wow... For a second there I was scared I lost the two of you as friends, but now," Steve chuckled. "It seems I have both of you in a very different way."
"It was a hard choice for a while," You admitted, rubbing his belly gently through his unisex cyan shirt. "But then I realized I didn't have to choose at all. If you're building a house and can't decide between spruce or birch, just use both."
"Yeah, what they said... I didn't win gamer of the year by only playin' one character on the roster," He gave Steve's stomach a firm pat, grabbing the flesh and giving it a little shake earning a small "oof!" from the older man.
"C'mon you guys, lets go home."
As all of you walked off into the sunset without any real idea of whose house you'd be heading to, the future seemed bright for the three of you. Normally thinking far ahead filled you with a sense of dread, but after surviving the challenges of this life and the perils of another you realize that meeting both of these men at the same time in your life truly is the best of both worlds.

Minecraft: The Movie: The Fanfic
Pairing!: Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison x GN!Reader
Summary: Life in Chuglass was pretty normal, until one strang after noon changed it all...
Word count: 3,800+
Authors note: I said I was gonna do it. Unfortunately he is my baby. I'd let him hit 'cause he's goofy đ€Ș
Warnings!: literally a reader insert of the minecraft movie.
You're in the movie!
Don't read if you don't want the movie spoiled.
Y/N had moved to Chuglass a few years back, moving there after being named the sole benefactor to their estranged grandfatherâs house and bakery. It was supposed to be a new start, to get away from the past and live a modest life.
Y/N got by fairly well in Chuglass, continuing the bakery and making enough to keep the heat and lights on. The bakery was next to Game Over World, this run down old game store run by a man who was still trying to live out his glory days.
Garrett was an interesting man, always trying to come off as too cool and as if wasnât 1 late payment away from losing his store. Y/N felt a little bad for him, with no friends in their already small town. Y/N wasnât much better, but at least they got daily interactions with their customers, and they would consider Dawn to be an acquaintance. The most interaction Garrett got was from the online auction websites he used and any garage sales he went to.
One day, however, Garrett entered the bakery. As he scanned over the bread and other baked goods, Y/N emerged from the back, greeting as they would any other customer.
âWelcome in!â Y/N smiled.
Garrett gave a kind of awkward nod as he looked at Y/N, still looking around the store for a moment before speaking. âWhere, uhâŠwhereâs the old man?â he asked.
âYou mean (Grandfatherâs name?)â Y/N asked, raising an eyebrow.
âYeah, him. He usually helps me out when Iâm⊠a little low on cash.â Garrett adjusted his shoulders, obviously a little tense over the fact that he was admitting he was broke to a stranger.
Y/N leaned over the counter as they looked at Garrett, âWell unfortunately for you, my grandfather passed a couple months back, something you probably would have noticed if you had stopped by before.â
Garrett awkwardly cleared his throat, flipping down his sunglasses to cover his eyes to avoid the awkward eye contact before speaking, âOh, I'm sorry for your loss.â
Y/N just shrugged, âDon't be, I never really knew him. I just ended up with all his property and decided to move here to get a fresh start.â
Garrett nodded, looking down towards the ground even with his eyes concealed. âWell⊠I'm sorry for bothering you then.â As he turned to leave, Y/N spoke up.
âWait!â they said before Garrett stepped out of the bakery. âI don't have any extra money right now, but I can at least give you this.â Y/N reached into the pastry cabinet and retrieved a cupcake with pink and blue swirled frosting, stopped with pink sprinkles. Y/N reached their arm over the counter, offering it to Garrett.
âOh no, I'm good.â Garrett raised a hand up, declining the offer.
âCome on, take it. I made too many for today and it'll go bad if you don't take it.â Y/N said, still holding out the cupcake.
Garrett waited for a second before reaching for the cupcake, his fingers brushing against Y/Nâs as he took it. He once again headed towards the door, pushing it open and looking over his shoulder at Y/N, âThanks.â He said as he headed out.
Garrett began to walk back to his own store, before spinning around and popping his head back into the bakery. âWhat was your name?â He asked.
âY/Nâ
âY/NâŠâ He said in almost a whisper to himself, âIâm Garrett, it was nice to meet you.â Garrett pulled back, once again making his way back to his store.
Y/N smiled a bit, feeling happy that they got a chance to talk to Garrett, even if the whole exchange was awkward and he was only there to âborrowâ money.
Garrett eventually got ahold of the money he needed, but he started going into the bakery everyday before it closed. Always grabbing one of the cupcakes that were going to be thrown out at the end of the day. And secretly, Y/N always made sure there was exactly 1 left each day for Garrett.
~~~
It was around 4PM on a Tuesday, closing time for the bakery, and Garrett hadnât stopped by yet. Y/N closed up the store and packed the cupcake they had saved for Garratt in a to-go box, then headed next door to check on him.
When Y/N entered the game store, they noticed that the door was left unlocked, lights were left on, and there was no one there. Y/N looked around, trying to find any clues as to where Garrett had gone, they knew he wasnât one to leave his store unattended like this. As Y/N looked around, they found a note that looked like it was a few years old, left on the ground.
Y/N quickly read over the note, it was talking about some crystal, but the part that stuck out to Y/N was where it said âThere loads of treasure down here⊠but it's not worth the danger!â They knew that it must have meant the old mines. Y/N rushed out of the game store and drove across town, parking their car next to what they recognized as Dawnâs. Without any thought, they rushed into the abandoned mines, worried about what danger Garrett could have gotten himself into.
Stumbling through the mines, Y/N heard the yells of Dawn, Garrett, and 2 other people. Y/N rushed towards the sound, finding what looked like a glowing blue doorway. As Y/N stared in awe, they were quickly sucked into the portal and thrown through the air.
As they sat up, Y/N was confused to see fresh grass under them. When they stood, they saw a full, bright world made of block shapes. As Y/N scanned the area, they saw Garrett, Dawn, and the 2 new kids running over towards a pink blocky sheep. As Y/N was running over to join the group, the sun suddenly set and the moon was already high in the sky.
What the hell? Y/N thought.
Before they could move further, a barrage of flaming arrows came raining down over the clearing the group was in. Y/N panicked and ran over towards Garrett, the opposite direction that the others had run to. As Y/N ran, they lost sight of Garrett. Trying to keep away from the monsters that had suddenly appeared, Y/N jumped onto a small tree, running along the leafy blocks and jumping across them, hoping to find Garrett with the high ground advantage.
As Y/N jumped from tree to tree, they finally spotted Garrett as he emerged from a hole in the ground. Y/N hopped out of the tree and landed next to Garrett, making him scream.
Y/N grabbed Garrett by the arm, âWe need to get out of here!â they said.
Before they could figure out where to run to, they both froze as they heard a hissing noise from behind them. Garrett instinctively turned and punched the green creature. The monster began to pulse with a light, each beat being fast and faster. As Garrett tried to apologize to the monster, Y/N knew exactly what was coming next. Y/N kicked the monster back, sending it flying back. As it landed a few yards away, it exploded, the power of it sending Y/N and Garrett tumbling down the hill they were on. As they got us from the ground (for the second time today) they saw that they were surrounded by zombies.
Garrett and Y/N ran, finding a large tower that the others were standing atop of. The two ran towards the tower, fighting off zombies left and right. Garrett stopped for a moment, picking up a crystal cube from the ground and looking at it before it was knocked from his hands, the outer crystal shattering. Y/N grabbed Garrett by the arm, forcing him to continue to run before he reached down and grabbed the glowing center cube that was left. Y/N and Garrett reached the tower, both begging to be let in.
As they stood there, zombies began to surround them. The two tried to fight off the ghouls but were quickly becoming overpowered. Just before they could be ripped apart, the blocks of the wall behind them disappeared and both were pulled into the tower. The boy had pulled them to safety. As they all were running up the stairs to the top of the tower, an explosion destroyed one of the walls, letting in a horde of zombies. With everyone now on top of the tower it seemed like this would be the end, as monsters cornered them.
Suddenly, a man appeared who fought off the monsters, sending a few off the edge of the tower. Then, as if on a queue that only he knew, he pointed towards the sky as the sun reappeared, making the remaining zombies burst into flames.
The boy slowly approached the man, âWho are you?â he asked.
âI⊠am Steve!â The man said.
Steve explained that he needed the âorbâ (as he called it) back to save his dog, Dennis, and that the group wouldnât be able to go home because the earth crystal had shattered, meaning they would have to venture to find a new one before the portal back home would open. Steve promised to help the group find the earth crystal so that they could all go home, and began the journey by leading everyone to a nearby village for supplies.
As the group walked, Dawn introduced Y/N to Natalie and Henry, the two others in the group, and the new residence of Chuglass.
Soon, the 6 of them arrived at the massive village, filled with many blocky humanoid people. Steve explained the way of life for the âvillagersâ, as he called them, mostly focusing on their food. Y/N was intrigued, as someone who baked and had a knack for cooking too, they wanted to learn more about the foods they made.
âSo, you're a foodie, huh? Well, let me introduce you to my little corner of heaven~â Steve said, singing the last bit as he led them over to a shack with a giant chicken on top of it.
âYou ever wonder what happens when you mix hot lava and chicken? I did and you're about to find out!â Steve then flipped a switch, causing some type of contraption to move at the back of the shack.
Then, Steve started singing.
It was almost like a jingle for this place. Talking about how the lava chicken was crispy and spicy. It honestly was half bad, but Garrett felt otherwise.
âIâm a business owner too, but when I write a jingle I try not to make it sound like butt.â Garrett shrugged.
As the chicken landed on the counter, Steve ripped off one of the legs, biting into it and quickly recoiling from the pure heat.
Garrett scoffed and he told Steve to hand over the chicken leg.
âCareful brochacho, that chicken was just cooked using scolding hot lava!â Steve warned.
Garrett just shrugged and took a large bit out of the chicken, chewing it confidently. Steve nodded approvingly and began to lead the others more into the village. As everyone else turned away, Y/N saw Garrett as he tried his best to keep calm as the hot food burned his mouth. Y/N shook their head as he hurried behind the others. Y/N grabbed some of the chicken, finding it could be minimized like the blocks that Henry picked up.
Y/N trailed behind dawn, taking in all the sights of the village.
âWe should really get a map, I don't trust just running into the forest blind.â Natalie said.
âIâll look around and see if I find one here, but you go and ask Steve if he has one or where we can get one.â Dawn said, pulling Y/N with her.
When Natalie left and it was just Dawn and Y/N, Dawn spoke, âSo, what's the deal with you and garbage boy?â She asked.
Y/N was taken aback, âN-nothing? He just comes into the bakery sometimes and I was worried about him.â
Dawn rolled her eyes, âmhm, sure. And you're just being all protective over him and hes just getting all jealous because you work next to each other, right?â
Y/N laughed, âWhat are you talking about?â
Dawn sighed, âOh, come on! You ran in here worried about him and heâs acting all jealous because you're giving Steve all this attention while he's showing us around. I work with animals, Y/N, I know what it looks like when two animals like each other, and you two act just like peacocks.â Dawn laughs.
Y/N blushes, âWhatever, lets just find this stupid map.â
Dawn pulls Natalie back over to them as they talk to, what Dawn thinks, is a cartography villager.
âSo⊠we need a map.â Natalie tries to explain to the villager. The villager just grunts.
Y/N, Dawn, and Natalie just look between each other, unsure of what that could mean.
Before any of them can try to ask in a different way, an arrow comes flying past them, striking one of the villagers on the nose before he poofs.
Mass panic ensues. Villagers run for cover as the Piglins come marching in. Steve, Garrett and Henry emerge from Steveâs weapons stash, defending the village.
Dawn, Natalie, and Y/N run for cover, hiding behind a flipped table. As a piglin lunges at them, they kick the table at it and run towards some stacked up tools to defend themselves. Dawn grabs a shovel, Natalie grabs a hoe, and Y/N grabs a pick axe. The three fight off attacks left and right, trying to get away from the invaders.
âWe have to get out of here!â Y/N shouts,
âWe canât leave Henry!â Natalie yells back.
âHeâs safe with Steve, we just have to meet up with them at the woodland mansion!â Dawn shouts, directing them towards where the cartographer went.
The three run towards the river where the cartographer is already taking off in a boat.
âWait! We need a map!â Natalie yells towards the villager.
âWe need a boat!â Dawn says.
Natalie then breaks a wooden plank from the dock and places it the way Henry did, âBoat magic!â Natalie yelled.
The three of them and the villager watch as the block Natalie places in the water just bobs and floats away.
âI don't think thatâs how that works.â Y/N says.
âIâm sorry, I have no idea what I'm doingâŠâ Natalie says
âDonât worry about it, we have to go!â Y/N says, running back up the dock and towards the forest in the direction of the mansion.
~~~
Soon, the sun was already setting, and Dawn, Natalie, and Y/N were already exhausted.
âWeâre already lost.â Natalie said defeated, before swinging her shovel and hitting a zombie across the head. Y/N swung their pick axe and landed the end right in the head of the zombie, stopping it from getting back up.
âI had one job, to protect Henry, and I blew it. My mom would have never let this happen. I just wish I could have been a kid for a little longer.â Natalie said, sulking.
âTrust me, Nat, no one chooses to be an adult. But I hear you.â Y/N says, passing the zombie to Dawn for her to hit with her hoe.
âYea, you suddenly have all these responsibilities and have to give up on your dreams. You think I like having 15 hussles?â Dawn adds.
The 3 stop in their tracks as they hear growling. They turn around to suddenly see a wild wolf closing in on them.
Natalie screams and Y/N raises their weapon.
âWait!â Dawn says, âI think this one just needs some TLC.â She says as she grabs a bone from the ground and slowly walks over to the wolf. As she gets close, she kneels down and offers the bone to the wolf, who takes it. The wolf smiles, a collar appears around its neck, the tag reading âDennisâ.
Dawn is shocked, âDennis? Steveâs Dennis?â She asks the dog.
Dennis happily wags his tail and begins to lead them off into the forest.
âI think he knows the way!â Y/N says, following him as dawn and Natalie also follow along.
~~~
Dennis leads them to Steve and Henry, who they find passed out on the ground, Garrett nowhere to be seen. Dawn and Y/N work together to carry Steve and Natalie carries Henry, taking them to the giant red mushrooms to offer coverage as they wait for them to wake up.
Dennis leads them to the mushroom hut, where Y/N uses the supplies that Steve kept there to make some food to help Steve and Henry out once they wake up.
After a few minutes, Steve wakes up, âDennis! Is it really you buddy?â He says as he pets Dennis. Steve looks up and seeâs Henry is still unconscious.
âWhat happened, whereâs Garrett?â Y/N asks as they hand a bowl of mushroom stew to Steve.
Steveâs brows furrow as he looks down, âHe⊠He sacrificed himself for us. He didnât want Malgoshaâs army to catch us and knew it was the only way for us to survive.â
Tears began to form in Y/Nâs eyes, but they quickly wiped them away, turning away to look out the window.
âAnd⊠they got the orb.â Steve said, the sun getting blocked out as Malgosha used the orb. Y/N shook their head, clearing the grief from their mind before speaking.
âOkay, we need a plan to fight Malgosha. Weâll wait until Henry wakes up and then we have to prepare.â Y/N said.
Once Henry wakes up, the group gets to work, crafting supplies and readying for the fight. Dawn goes out and tames more wolves while Henry invents more armour and weapons, Steve gets the supplies, and Natalie builds them. Y/N learns to make potions, crafting potions of strength and healing.
Once everything was ready, they headed to intercept Malgoshaâs army, building dozens of iron golems and waiting for the army to attack. Once a single stray arrow hit one of the golems, it began.
The golems did the mass of the work, throwing piglin as they charged. Natalie and Henry charged into the battle, slashing and shooting the ones that got past. Y/N stood in the mountains, shooting poison tipped arrows and setting off TNT. Steve challenged Malgosha directly.
Henry knew he had to get the orb away from Malgoshaâs portal. So he used an ender pearl to get up to the top, and Natalie stopped the great hog from reaching him. As Y/N shot down more piglins from reaching Natalie, Dawn emerged from the forest with her pack of wolves, sending them out to attack.
As everyone fought, Henry climbed towards the orb, just out of reach. Before he could grab it, the great hog sent a shot towards him, knocking him down from the tower.
âHenry!â Natalie yelled out.
Y/Nâs breath caught in their throat as he fell, everyone was too far away to help him.
Just as the great hog lined up another shot to hit Henry as he fell, a ghast float came swinging in, catching Henry.
Y/N watch the float as it steadies. Piloting it was Garrett.
âYes! Go, Garrett, go!â Y/N shouted. Everyone cheered them on as they used the ghast to destroy Malghoshaâs portal, knocking the orb loose in the process. As the sun reappeared, the monsters began to burst into flames and the piglins started to zombify.
Natalie caught the orb as it bounced off the ground and Garrett and Henry landed. Y/N rushed to them and jumped up, wrapping their arms around Garrett in a hug.
Before they could even think about what they were doing, they kissed Garrett. The world felt like it stopped around the two of them.
Y/N pulled back and looked Garrett in the eyes, all he could do was smile and let out a laugh. Y/N let go of him and punched him lightly on the arm,
âDonât you EVER scare me like that again!â They said.
Garrett rubbed his arm where the punch landed and chuckled, âNot if that's how you'll react every time.â
As Steve defeated Malgosha, the rest of the gang celebrated.
Soon , everyone was at the portal, ready to go home. As the gang said their goodbyes to Steve, he sang a short song to Dennis about how Dennis helped him and how it was time for him to help Dawn. As they passed through, they re-entered the mines. As they began the walk out, there was a whooshing sound and footsteps behind them.
Steve had decided to go back, to conquer the challenge he had started a long time ago:
To be an adult and make connections with people in the real world.
The adventure in the Over World wasnât forgotten or a waste, though. Dawn opened up a real zoo, with Dennis as the main attraction, Natalie opened a self defense class, teaching the people of Chuglass to fight, Steve started working at Game Over World with Garrett and even started developing a video game, Block City Battle Buddies, that started the entire gang, and Y/N added more items to the bakeryâs menu, selling mushroom stew, pumpkin soup, and even Steveâs lava chicken, that was extra spicy. Henry even became more confident, inventing more things and making a successful jetpack.
âI guess life is going to change a lot, huh?â Y/N asked Garrett as they leaned against the counter of Game Over World.
âYeah, but itâs all for the better. Now I can say that I actually have friends my age.â Garrett chuckled as he draps an arm over Y/Nâs shoulder. Y/N rests their head against Garrett, looking over the bustling store, filled with the local kids and their friends.
âHey, what would you say to maybe moving in with me?â Y/N asked Garrett.
Garrett froze for a moment as he processed the question. Y/N straighted up, realizing that it was a very heavy proposition.
âI mean, itâs just a really big house! And I figure you living with me could help save you some money that could be used for the store and the game and-â before Y/N could finish, Garrett leaned down and kissed them.
âI think thatâs a great idea.â He said smiling.
Y/N smiled up at him, resting their hand on his chest before they both looked back at their friends as they laughed.
Birmingham | Tommy Shelby x Reader (Part 16)
Previous Part
Pairing: Tommy Shelby x reader
Summary: Some of (Y/N)'s past comes to light during the drive to Sheffield. Sheâs finally able to speak to her brother, and have the upperhand for onceâŠuntil things change on a dime. Thankfully Tommy's there to back her up. After everything goes down, her mum is the first thing she can think about.
Warnings: language, strained familiar relationship, psychological abuse, weapons, violence (typical to series), character death, mentions of drinking
Word Count: 3151
A/N: alright, yâallâŠhereâs the chapter. Itâs all going down here. I hope that it doesnât disappoint given this type of material isnât what I normally write. A big shoutout is in order for @peakyscillian , who helped me with the structure for a part of this chapter. Also bonus points if you can pick out the line of Garrettâs where I channeled Fitzgerald from The Revanent. Enjoy ! :)
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!
Comment/Message me if youâd like to be tagged!
(Y/N) kept her hands twisted tightly together in her lap as she stared out at the road ahead of her. With each second that passed, her grip got stronger. It was to the point where her fingernails were digging into her skin, but she didn't care. She needed some way to alleviate this nervous feeling that was bubbling up inside of her.
"Are you ok, (Y/N)?" she heard Tommy ask beside her. His voice made her look over at him to see that he was taking quick glances in her direction in between staying focused on the road. He must've seen the death grip she had on herself.
"Honestly...no," she answered, exhaling a long breath then. "I...my mind's not stopped since we've left Birmingham."
"What's going through it?" he asked, glancing in her direction once more.
"I can't stop thinking about what we're going to do. It's not quite the homecoming that anyone first thinks of," she responded, a bit of a nervous laugh bubbling past her lips after she finished speaking.
"(Y/N), if you're having doubts about being the one who..."
"No. It's not doubt about that," she abruptly cut him off the second she realized the direction his statement was heading in, "I'm the one who's going to do this. I need to...for my own sanity and for the hope that I can gain some peace moving forward. I will go about every day in a much calmer state of mind once I know he's no longer a threat to my mother or I."
Tommy slowed the car down and pulled over to the side of the road after noticing the shift in her voice as it faded out towards the end of her statement. He knew that her past with her family was complicated, but the extent of it had never been shared with him. Seeing her sink further into herself the closer they got to Sheffield made him realize that maybe now was the time to get the full extent of the story.
"Why're we stoppin'?!" Arthur called from the car behind Tommy's.
"Just stay in the car!" Tommy called back to him, killing the engine before he turned to look at (Y/N).
"What did we stop for?" (Y/N) asked a similar question to Arthur's.
"You seemed to be getting worse the closer we got to Sheffield," he told her his observation, "figured that maybe you'd need a moment."
(Y/N) was biting back her tears at this point. "I've taken one, so let's go, yeah?" her statement came out a little more forced than she'd hoped.
"Let's take another," he went against her wishes before continuing, "you said that you'd have a calmer state of mind once he's dealt with...what do you mean by that?" he decided to come right out with his curiosity, hoping that she'd trust him enough to share with him.
(Y/N) looked at Tommy for a few moments, deciding whether or not she wanted to open up and explain her past to him. Then she remembered him opening up to her about his past and what he was going through when they were at the Garrison. With a deep breath and a long sigh, she decided that he was someone she could confide in.
"As much as I hate to say it, I have not a good memory shared with either of my brothers," she started, seeing Tommy's eyebrows furrow together before she continued, "when my father took charge of the gang, he began to push the idea that a woman's place was outside the sphere of business. He brought my brothers up on that idea, so naturally they fell right into place with enforcing it. My mother...she was fine with it. It followed right in line with the Weller family's idea that a woman couldn't be the head of the gang, which was why my father took charge in the first place. But my brothers...they took it a step too far most times. They'd often take the psychological route..." she trailed off then, her voice giving out as different instances of her brothers making her feel inferior began to come to mind.
"Love, you don't need to..."
"No, I need to," she abruptly cut Tommy off, shaking her head as she squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, "maybe speaking about it will help alleviate the burden they've placed on me."
"Only if you feel comfortable," he told her, and she nodded her head before taking a deep breath.
She continued once she'd let it out slowly, "when I was younger it was the typical boys vs. girls, kid typed things. They'd tell me that I couldn't play with them, or that I couldn't be a part of the things they were doing. Clay pretty much stayed in that realm as he got older too; he'd tell me the same thing our father had instilled into our minds: a woman's place wasn't in business and that I had no need to be trying to insert myself into situations where I wasn't welcome. Garrett, on the other hand...he never knew how far was too far. He'd take every chance he got to put me down; to tell me that I wasn't good enough or that I couldn't handle anything. He liked to remind me that, because I was a woman, I was essentially useless to the family as a whole; that I'd never do anything for it like they did. He'd call me weak, he'd call me a coward...he would criticize me for staying inside and then tell me that I was making myself an easy target when I would go out. These remarks would get woven into almost every conversation we shared together, and it came up so much that I just got used to it," she paused, softly laughing to herself before continuing, "as terrible as it sounds, it was nice when he went off to war...because then I only had Clay to deal with, and he had other things going on, so letting me know my place in the family wasn't high up on his list."
"But then Garrett came back..." Tommy filled in the next part of her story when she took a moment to collect herself.
"He did. He came back even worse than he was before. His actions and ideas escalated, to the point where I had to run away," she took a shaky breath as her mind went back to the final days that she'd spent with her family. After a moment spent composing herself, she continued, "he and Clay were trying to make a deal stick...they thought they had the man to where he was going to agree, but he just wouldn't. So Garrett came up with the idea that he'd throw me in the deal as a sweetener, and after persistence from his end, the man bought it. I was to go with this man I'd never met because my brother decided that I was nothing more than a pawn to use in their business endeavors. I made it as far as the man's driveway before he had second thoughts and drove me back...he said he'd work things out on other terms. But Garrett wasn't happy about it. He thought that I was the one who made the man change his mind. He said that he would kill me if the business deal didn't go through in the end, because I would be the only reason why it wouldnât...I left that night because I didn't want to wait around and see it through."
By the end of her monologue, (Y/N) had noticed that she now had crescent shaped marks in her wrist as a result of how hard she was pressing her fingers into it. She sniffled and reached up to swipe away the tears that were welling up in her eyes before they could escape.
"I'm sorry, I...I didn't mean to unload all of that onto you," she apologized, finally looking at Tommy again.
"Don't apologize. I'm sure doing it helped you," he brushed her off, hoping that his expression was being received as sympathetic. Inside an anger was boiling up with each second that passed. He now had another reason why this man needed to be dealt with before the sun set.
"It did," she nodded, "it's just that now my mum's in his crosshairs because she's still speaking with me, and I won't have her become even more collateral damage from my decisions. That's why I need to be the one who does this...who finally frees us from his grips."
"You're sure of it?" he checked with her once more, still not wanting to push her into something that may be too much...and if he was being honest, he wanted to do it himself now.
"I am," she answered, an assured expression on her face.
"Ok," he nodded upon hearing her answer, "are you ready to go?"
"I am," she repeated her previous response, nodding slightly as she spoke.
Tommy only nodded before he started the engine again, waving his hand out the window to get the attention of his brothers before he maneuvered the car back onto the road. (Y/N) took a deep breath as they began driving again, feeling better after getting things off of her chest. She was still slightly nervous about what was going to be done in a matter of hours, but she felt even more assured that this was the right thing to do.
ââ
The car was parked down the lane from the pub that Garrett frequented. Tommy had decided that they would walk up so that things wouldn't be even more out of the ordinary. Arthur and John took the other men accompanying them to where they knew Clay would be at this time. They would all make sure that Clay and his associates would stay where they were while things played out.
"You ok?" Tommy asked (Y/N) as they approached the pub.
"I am," she nodded, taking another breath to calm the nerves that were bubbling up.
"And you have what you need?" he checked, referring to the revolver he'd given her before they left Small Heath.
"I do," she answered, her hand subconsciously going to where the weapon was situated in the waistband of her skirt, underneath the flowing part of her blouse.
"Ok," Tommy nodded, stopping and turning to look at her once they were a few steps from the pub's doors. "You can do this," he assured her one last time, his words making her nod, "and I'll be in the corner of the room if things don't go as planned."
(Y/N) nodded one last time and sent him a nervous smile before she turned and walked the few steps separating her from the doors. After another deep breath, she opened them and entered the pub.
The pub was basically empty. There were a few men scattered around the decently-sized room, drinking and minding their business. (Y/N)'s eyes fell on Garrett rather quickly. He was sitting in a stool straight in front of her with his back to the door. She could have easily done the job...just pulled out the gun and taken care of him without even being five steps into the establishment. But she didn't want it to go down like that. She wanted to speak her mind to him first.
So she confidently walked up to the bar, her shoes soundly loudly off the hardwood. She could hear Tommy enter the pub behind her and from the corner of her eye watched as he took a seat at an empty table next to the doors.
Without a word, she stopped at the bar and set her hands down on it. Instead of looking at him, she kept her eyes focused straight ahead. He'd recognize her soon enough.
Within seconds, he did. "It's awful bold of you to set foot in this city after all you've done," there was a smirk apparent in his voice...there always was.
"After all I've done?" (Y/N) countered, making sure that her voice was steady, "I just came to visit mum, Garrett. It was you and Clay who..." her steadiness cracked as she recalled that fateful day. Garrett noticed this and looked to capitalize on it, but she didn't give him the chance as she composed herself and kept speaking, "this is as much my city as it is yours, and you know that," she finished off with a glare.
Garrett chuckled at her comment, unbothered by her steely gaze. "Everyone clear out!" he called to the other patrons in the bar, who promptly heeded to his request. Tommy stayed tucked in the corner, where the darkness of the room hid him. (Y/N) stole a glance in his direction to make sure he was still there. "I need to have a word with my sister," Garrett continued, his grin still present. He waited until the room was clear to speak again, "you know I don't actually know how this is still your city since you bailed on it in the middle of the night," the cockiness was present once more.
"You of all people should know why I did that," she spat back at him, not having the tolerance for him to do this now.
"Why did you even come back here?" he disregarded her statement, "did mummy write you another letter telling you how oh-so terrible things are? Did she want you to come and save her?" he was talking in a mocking voice now.
She actually did, (Y/N) thought, but didn't dare say that.
"Why did you come back here, (Y/N)? Huh?" he continued to prod when she didn't say anything, instead keeping her stone faced gaze on him.
"I came to deal with something I should have a long time ago," she answered him, her words coming through gritted teeth as she tried to keep herself calm. She'd been waiting to do this for a while now, she didn't want to mess it up or jump ahead of herself.
"Oh yeah, what's that?" he asked her, his eyebrows raised. She wasn't sure if he noticed her movement as she slowly pulled her weapon from the waistband of her skirt.
"To make sure that you can't hurt me or anyone else ever again," she told him, keeping her words steady as she brandished the weapon, holding it up for him to see. Wasting no time in pointing it at him, she kept her hands steady and her grip relaxed. She couldn't let him see how she was really feeling.
A grin slowly formed on Garrett's face as he realized what was happening now. He didn't show one ounce of fear or shock at what (Y/N) had done. "You wanna show me how much you've grown now, huh? You go to fucking Birmingham and all of a sudden you think you know how to handle a fucking weapon?!" he started screaming at her, inching closer to her as he spoke, making her shrink into herself slightly. She held the gun steady though. "Fucking show me then! Use it on me!" he taunted, moving even closer to her.
(Y/N) gritted her teeth and kept her hold. No matter how much screaming she was doing inside of her mind now, she couldn't get herself to pull the trigger. She was frozen in her spot as all of the memories of the times he'd taken this similar tone with her flooded back again.
In a flash, Garrett grabbed the gun out of her hand, managing to do so before she could even react to him. She gasped at the feeling of the weapon, and the power, leaving her hands and tried so hard to maintain her composure as he flipped the barrel around to face her, grinning like a maniac now.
"See...you don't know how to do a fucking thing. You're still the same, pathetic coward that ran away. Still scared to do anything..." he trailed off, pulling the hammer of the gun back as he kept it pointed at her. His grin grew as he stared her down. "What am I to do now? How could I possibly let you walk away from this, huh?" his final word was accentuated by the sound of the gun clicking, which made (Y/N) flinch and squeeze her eyes shut.
What brought her back was the sound of his laughter. She opened her eyes to see him opening the chamber and spinning it, seeing the bullets that were loaded into it - in all but one of the slots. He then shut it and spun it once more, eyeing her up and down as he chuckled again. "Next time you plan on killin' a person, you best remember to load your gun properly, you fuckin'..."
A loud bang sounded out in the room, stopping Garrett mid sentence. (Y/N) dropped to the floor at the sound of it, covering her head as a last ditch effort as a ringing sound took over all of her senses.
"(Y/N)!" the voice was muffled, the ringing still taking center stage. "(Y/N)!" it called again.
She didn't know how long it was before she opened her eyes again. After blinking a few times, she found Tommy kneeling in front of her. She also felt a presence to her left, but she dared not to look in that direction; knowing exactly what, or rather who, it was.
"Are you ok?" he asked her, his voice more clear now. Concern was deeply etched into his features.
"I...I think I am," she stumbled over her words, nodding slightly.
"Let's get you up then, eh?" he suggested, making her nod again as she took hold of his outstretched hand and allowed him to slowly pull her to her feet. "Are you sure?" he asked her, his eyes locked onto hers as he tried to search them; to see if he could gain any underlying clues.
"Yes," she breathed, nodding again, "is he...?" she couldn't even finish her sentence without choking up.
Tommy knew exactly what she was getting at though. "He's dead."
(Y/N) nodded at this new information. "Good," she breathed, giving another slight nod. She took a few deep breaths before someone popped into her mind. "I need to go see my mum," she said then, just barely getting the words out before she stepped past Tommy and headed for the door.
If Tommy called out for her, she didn't hear him. She exited the pub and allowed her feet to take her down the streets without much thought. She needed to see her mum, and she needed to see her now.
A Thousand Years (vampire!Jack x reader AU) - Chapter 16.5
short(ish) lil happy thing :)
Chapter 16 Masterlist
After coming back from Cologne, Y/N was back at the airport almost a week later for a graduation trip around France, Spain and Ibiza with her friends. Sheâd been gone for a week and a half, with another three and a half weeks left to go.
Jack heaved a sigh of boredom as he rearranged the pantry for the fourth time since she left. His ears perk at the sound of his phone ringing, though heâs disappointed when he realizes itâs not the ringtone he assigned to Y/N. Instead, Garrettâs face flashes across the screen.
âHello?â âHey, mate. I need a favor.â âYes, please, give me something to do,â Jack replies, no shame in his voice as he indirectly admits his boredom. âWithering away without Y/N?â âTerribly so.â âRight, well, Ash and I are at the hospital; he found my musket from the Revolution and broke his foot with it.â
âHow did that happen?â he asks as he searches for a jacket (he knows he doesnât need it, but itâs a force of habit after wearing one for 27 years).
âI donât even know, honestly. But, anyway, Iâm wondering if you can help us around the house? Heâs really needy right nowââ âHey!â Jack hears the disembodied protest of Ash, along with some grumbling from who he assumes to be the doctor. âYes, absolutely. Anything you want me to do right now? Literally, anything.â âI want a burger and curly fries!â âAsh wants a burger and curly fries.â âGot it.â
Jack navigates his way through the hospital, a greasy paper bag in one hand and a bag of clean clothes for his friends in another. Ash would have to stay a few days since the butt of the musket really did a number on his bones, and Jack didnât mind; it gave him something to do. After delivering the food to Ash and handing the clothes to Garrett, he stepped outside to fetch a soda per the request of the injured man.
âAnd can we FaceTime Y/N later? I miss her.â âYou and me both, mate,â Jack laughed as he left.
As Jack picked through the sodas in the fridge, he felt a pair of eyes on him and turned to see a woman around the age of 40 staring intently at him from her seated position at a table. After paying, he saw her motion for him to come over.
âCan I help you?â âForgive me for staring, but would you happen to be an immortal?â
Jack looks very confused, wondering how on earth she figured that out.
âI just noticed from, well, your complexion, and how you seemed to ignore the food. And you also hold the bottle quite comfortably in your hand. Usually people hold it at the cap because itâs too cold. Forgive me if Iâm wrong.â
âNo, no, youâre right. Why do you ask?â
She smiles. âDr. Harper del Rosario, cardiologist,â she introduces herself, offering her hand for him to shake.
âJack Lowden, bartender.â âJack, wonderful to meet you. If youâre willing, I have a proposition for you.â
Y/N returns home a few weeks later, skin tanned nicely from the Spanish sun. She feels satisfied at the amount of crepes she had eaten and is eager to tell Jack about her trip. Lilyâs father pulls up to the house before getting out and helping her with her luggage.
âThanks again for the ride, Mr. Garrison.â âOh, itâs no problem, dear. You keep in touch okay?â âOf course!â âLet her go, dad. Sheâs probably itching to see her boyfriend again.â
They share a laugh before Mr. Garrison breaks the silence, âSheâs probably right. Anyway, hope to see you soon!â
âYou too! Bye Lily!â
She waves them goodbye before turning to unlock the door. She waves to them one last time as she shuts the door, sighing in relief at finally being back home. She loved her vacation and enjoyed it thoroughly, though she missed her cats and Jack.
She first decides to load some laundry, greeting the cats along the way. Once the laundry is going, she sets off to find her boyfriend. She comes back up from the basement, finding Jack working in the shady cover of the tarp in their backyard. She smiles and returns his wave when he excitedly moves his arms to greet her, throwing down his garden supplies and rushing inside after taking off his muddy boots.
âI missed you,â he says, kissing her lips with clear intentions of making up for lost time. After that, he stamps kisses all over her face, smiling when she giggles.
âI missed you, too,â she sighs, cupping his face for press another kiss to his lips. âBut where were you the other day? I tried calling you in the evening. I mean, I appreciated the text saying you were alright but I was still a little worried. What were you up to?â
âIâm sorry, I couldnât pick up,â Jack explains, âI was on the surgery table.â
âSurgery?â Y/N asks incredulously, pushing away from him to look up and down his body. From what she can see, thereâs no reason for him to get surgery. She crosses her arms as her eyebrows raise in further curiosity, âSurgery for what?â
âCome here,â he says, smiling and opening his arms for her.
âWhy?â Her tone is still frightened, though she does take cautious steps towards him.
âJust trust me.â
She stands in front of him, studying his features in suspicion. Her eyes travel down his torso and across his arms, again finding nothing out of the ordinary before stepping closer and wrapping her arms around his waist. Itâs when her head lands on his chest that she hears it.
Thump. Thump-thump. Thump. Thump-thump.
Tears are falling before she can become aware that theyâre in her eyes. Her mouth opens in gleeful shock, pressing her face into his chest more as if itâs a better position to hear the beating.
âWhat-what is this?â
âItâs my heart,â he whispers, pressing a kiss to the top of her head, one hand behind her head to hold her to him while the other is wrapped tightly around her waist.
âThe surgery was forââ âThey put an electric sleeve around my heart,â he says, âso now my heart beats again.â âAnd theyâŠhow did you even hear about this?â
âI ran into a cardiologist when I was at the hospital helping out Ash and Garrett. She asked me if Iâd do it because itâs some new treatment to prevent heart failure. They figured if they can get my heart beating again then itâs likely theyâll be able to sustain the heartbeat of someone whose heart is failing.â
Y/Nâs trying her best to listen, but all she hears is the steady thumping sound in his chest, along with the echoing vibrations of his voice as he speaks.
âItâs incredible,â she says, her ear still pushed against his chest.
âIt doesnât do much. Doesnât work to pump blood or anything,â he shrugs, pressing more kisses into her hair, âBut it beats. Beats for you.â
âJack!â
He rushes in when he hears her, appearing in the doorway with a look of concern.
âWhatâs wrong?â âNothing,â she says, shaking her head, âI just wanna listen.â
He smiles when she pulls the corner of the comforter away from the mattress, opening it up for him to lie next to her. He walks over, taking his shoes off as he goes before settling down next to her. He rests his head on the pillows and opens his arms for her to cuddle into his side, which she does eagerly. She fidgets around before finding the right spot and position to lay her head on his chest to listen to his heartbeat.
Her arms are tight around his waist, one of his hands strokes across her cheekbone as her eyelids flutter shut. Sheâs almost asleep in a minute, the lulling rhythm soothing her to sleep effectively.
He had plans to work on his garden and clean around the house, but he can save that for later.
Guys Night | Garret Garrison x Reader
i had gotten a request to write the boys side of my girls night fic, as soon as i saw this rq i dropped everything i was doing and begun writing LMFAO i was so excited to do this. enjoy ^^
Not having spent much quality time together as a trio since their days in the Overworld, Garrett figured Henry was just the right age for a proper âguysâ night.â And what does a guysâ night, appropriate for a fourteen year old, entail, exactly? Junk food, video games, and beer, of course! Well, juice for Henry. Garrett wasnât looking to get another slap on the wrist from Natalie.
Unsurprisingly, despite technically being the same age as Garrett, Steve had never experienced the joys of a guysâ night either. It was up to Garrett to host what he declared âthe most life-changing experience a man could ask for.â
âFellas,â Garrett announced, slinking his arms around the two, âOjalĂĄ no estuviera tan solo means âthis is going to be the best night of your lives.ââ
âââ
Henry found himself unusually excited for the night. Despite having made a few friends at school, he genuinely enjoyed spending time with Steve and Garrett, even if their idea of fun (or more specifically, Garrettâs) didnât exactly match his own.
Garrett had dug up a few vintage video games from an old box at the store, classics that Steve actually remembered playing back in the day. It was some typical fighting game, Garrettâs specialty, so it wasnât surprising he had something like that lying around. As Garrett tried to teach Henry the controls, the conversation gradually shifted to their social lives.
âSo, uh, Hank... you talk to any girls yet? Yâknow, especially after that whole jetpack thing made you the talk of the school.â Garrett grabbed a fistful of chips while Steve and Henry stayed locked in on the screen. He wrinkled his nose. Clearly this kid hasnât hit the typical drooling-over-girls phase yet, he thought.
âUhh, I guess not. I donât really care about that stuff. Iâve got bigger things to focus on,â Henry said with a shake of his head.
Garrett gave him a look like heâd just claimed the moon was flat. Sure, that kind of answer wasnât that weird coming from a kid like Henry, but nobody?
âSeriously, dude? When I was your age, I had, like, five girlfriends.â
âNobody was a huge hotshot like you were, GarGar.â
Neither of them knew if Garrett was telling the truth. The guy was a serial liar, but it was hard to deny that his childhood âfameâ was made up. This guy having five girlfriends was totally believable, crazy right?
Henry sighed as Steveâs laughter filled the room. He stood up, hands in the air in mock defeat, as STEVE WON flashed in bold letters across the screen. Without breaking his stare, he dropped the controller onto Garrettâs lap.
âWell, what about you now?â he asked. âArenât you and Y/N dating?â
That one caught Garrett off guard. Steve snorted as his character slammed Garrettâs into the ground again.
âWhat?â Garrettâs voice cracked. âNo way, kid. Y/Nâs just my bro. Realmente me gustan. Iâd never date a bro.â Garrett was a lot of things, but a good liar wasnât one of them. This conversation had him on edge, which only made it easier for Steve take his character down. Garrett wasnât even paying attention to the game anymore. He knew he was a terrible liar, painfully aware of it, actuallyâbut was it really that obvious?
Heâd had a crush on Y/N since the '90s, always too much of a coward to do anything about it. It didnât help that they constantly threw him into the âbro-zoneâ with everyone they met. Even though Henry wasnât looking directly at him, Garrett could feel it, heâd seen right through the bluff.
âYou sure? Youâre always flirting with them,way more than you do with anyone else. Donât even get me started onââ
âHank, donât act like you know more about getting chicks than I do.â
That shut him up.
tbh i have such a bad habit of making my fics small afff đ i might make another part and make it longer.. perhaps.
little garrett x reader drabble thingy because i want to write more for him but i have.. absolutely no ideas! feel free to request.
It had become part of your morning routine to swing by Garrettâs shop before work. The place was always empty at that hour, but you didnât mind. You liked the quiet, and the chance to hang out with your boyfriend before the day got hectic.
The soft jingle of the doorbells made Garrett look up from whatever little gadget he was messing with. His expression was softer than usual, which told you he wasnât feeling quite as crappy today.
You made your way over with a soft smile, leaning in to press a quick kiss to his lips. It was nice being with him, if only for a moment, letting go of your own struggles. You knew Garrett was going through a rough patch, but as his partner and best friend, you promised to help however you could, whether it was lending him money when it was easy for you. You werenât exactly rolling in cash, but you were comfortable enough to support the person you loved. And Garrett had promised that once things picked up, the two of you would finally have a house to call your own.
ââTe necesito carnalmente,â means âGood morning, babe.ââ He smirked as you shook your head. Spanish definitely wasnât your strong suit, if anything, Garrett knew more than you, even if his translations werenât always correct. But even you could tell that what heâd said wasnât quite right.
âI think Itâs âbuenos dĂas, nena,â Gar.â
âYeah, thatâs what I said.â
Birmingham | Tommy Shelby x Reader (Part 5)
Previous Part
Pairing: Tommy Shelby x reader
Summary: (Y/N) comes into contact with her family and then stumbles upon some of the Shelbys' business. Later on, Matthew receives a new title, and Tommy's got a choice to make.
Warnings: language, smoking
Word Count: 3501
A/N: things seem to be heating up now. Also, if you see any similarities to my other, finished series, To Be AloneâŠno, you donât. I promise this will be differentâŠtrust me. Enjoy! :)
Let me know if youâd like to be tagged in this series!
(Y/N) was starting to get impatient as the sound of the ringing tone continued in her ear. She wondered if the person she was trying to reach would even bother picking up. Why would she? she thought to herself, I only decided to leave without telling anyone where I was going. After the fourth ring, the call picked up. "Hello?" she quickly asked, wanting to kick herself for how desperate she sounded.
"(Y/N)?" the woman on the other line answered with shock evident in her voice. "(Y/N), is that you?"
"Yes, mum, it's me," (Y/N) responded, smiling as a sigh of relief escaped her lips. She'd been wanting to hear her mother's voice for so long.
"Oh, hunny, where have you gone off to?" her mother asked.
"I...I can't quite say," she was hesitant to give information for fear of who may be listening to the call. The call could be being monitored, or her brothers could have been present with her.
"Are you safe?" was the next question, and now her mother's voice had more worry laced into it.
"I am," (Y/N) answered the question definitively. There was no doubt in her mind that she was safe where she was now. "How is everything there?" she asked a question before her mother could get another in.
"Everything's fine. Clay's still bent up on where you disappeared to. Garrett's gotten past it, but Clay pulls him back in. Your father's also worried about where you've gone. I'll make sure to tell him that you're safe," she gave (Y/N) a run down on the family.
"And Mel?" (Y/N) made sure to ask once she realized that Clay's wife, and really the only other person in (Y/N)'s family that was friendly besides her mother, wasn't mentioned.
"Melanie's fine as well."
"Did she have the baby?" (Y/N) asked.
"She did," her mother informed her, "a baby girl." (Y/N) smiled at the news at first, but then her smile faltered slightly when she realized that her newborn niece's future would most likely turn out to be like hers...unless Clay had a son to pass his legacy onto.
"That's good to hear...what did she decide on for the name?"
"Marie. Like she said she was going to go with." There was an evident tinge of displeasure in her mother's voice, probably because Melanie had prevailed with what she wanted to name the child. Her mother felt that there were too many 'Maries' in this world already.
"Ah, ok," (Y/N) decided not to comment on her motherâs vocal tone, "I'm sure she's beautiful," she added, a smile playing on her lips once more.
"She's a darling," her mother agreed, "you'll have to come home and see her," she tried then.
(Y/N) hesitated before answering. "I can't, mum. I...I'll write to you," she assured her, hoping that the older woman would settle for her desired form of continued communication, "we can keep in touch that way."
"I'll settle for that," her mother agreed, the slight tinge of disappointment in her voice not going unnoticed by her daughter.
"I have to go now," (Y/N) decided against commenting further on the topic, instead choosing to wrap up the conversation.
"Ok, (Y/N). Please stay safe," her mother stressed, her care towards her daughter evident in her voice. Now if only her entire family felt the same way about her.
"I will, mum. I love you. Bye," (Y/N) said her final words.
"I love you," her mother echoed the sentiment before the call ended.
With a sigh, (Y/N) hung up the receiver and exited the booth. She then met up with Matthew, who was leaning against the closest building, and began her walk to the Garrison.
â
"Perhaps we should listen to what Mr. Shelby has to say...before we make our decisions," (Y/N) heard a man say as she entered the Garrison.
The scene that presented itself the second she walked through the door left her surprised. She didn't expect to come into a room full of men sitting around a table. Sheâd been asked to come in that night to help with stocking and arranging the books for Arthur. Seeing these men made the hair on the back of her neck stand. She hated the feeling of all the eyes being on her.
"(Y/N)," the sound of someone calling her name made her fall back onto the group in front of her. It was Tommy who was talking. "(Y/N), go to the back," he told her, the tone of his voice serious.
"O...ok, Mr. Shelby," (Y/N) quickly responded before she dropped her head from the strangers' gazes and walked around the group to head to the back of the Garrison.
"Who's that lovely bird?" she heard one of the unfamiliar men ask after she walked past, "ain't she a sight for sore eyes in this shithole of a town," he added, a grin evident in his voice as there was a chorus of agreements and chuckles from his men.
Before (Y/N) was able to turn and face the man who'd just said that about her, Tommy spoke up: "who she is isn't of importance to you. She's not why you came here," he said in the same serious tone as before.
"She's why I'd like to stay here," the man quipped, his sleazy comment making her skin crawl.
"Mr. Kimber," Tommy's voice was steely, his distaste for the topic evident. "Let me explain to you why this would benefit the both of us," he then moved the conversation back to what they were previously discussing.
(Y/N) continued to the backroom, where she found some boxes that needed to be unpacked. She decided that she would work on emptying them before going into the office to work on the books.
It only took her a short amount of time to get everything in the boxes stored away in their designated spots. She made her way down the hall to the office, straining her ears to try and hear what was going on in the main bar area but there was only silence in response. After sitting behind the desk, she pulled out and opened the books so that she could get started with the ledgers. It still felt a bit weird sitting in her boss' desk, but she was told by Arthur that she could, and she didn't necessarily want to be balancing the books on the floor.
Zoning in, she began working on making sure the ledgers looked correct and that the math was done properly. She was so focused that she didn't hear the person coming down the hall until they were standing in the office's doorway. "What're you doing in here?"
Tommy's voice made (Y/N) look up, and once she did, she stared at him with a slightly gaped mouth. She knew she had permission to be in the room, but the tone of his voice made her seem like she was trespassing. "I...Arthur told me that I could work here when I'm balancing the books," she told him, trying to retain her confidence under the rather intense gaze he was sending her. She'd been subject to a great deal of similar gazes from her brothers in the past, but being under this one felt entirely different.
"You're working on the books now?" Tommy questioned as he brought a cigarette to his lips, "I thought Grace was in charge of that."
"She is," (Y/N) answered him before elaborating, "Arthur's not good at any parts of the bookkeeping, so he's asked me to make sure that the math was done properly."
"Fucking hell," Tommy sighed as he dropped his gaze to the floor, "what use is he here then?" he muttered, more to himself than anything.
"He's good with making sure the customers are in line," (Y/N) stated, giving her other boss the benefit of the doubt. Tommy snorted at her statement, shaking his head slightly as he looked over at (Y/N) again. She was able to see the slightest hint of a smile on his lips, so she added another statement, "and he certainly makes sure that we only sell the best types of alcohol here...tastes all of it himself to make sure."
"Surprised he leaves any for the patrons," he quipped in response, his statement making (Y/N) laugh softly. He cleared his throat then before taking another drag from his cigarette. "I'm sorry you had to walk into that meeting out there," he said as he stepped further into the office. He moved over to the desk and stamped out the spent cigarette in the ashtray before he took a seat on one of the wooden chairs across from (Y/N).
"It's alright, Mr. Shelby," (Y/N) brushed his apology off as she went back to balancing the books, feeling rather comfortable with Tommy sitting across from her. "You addressed him as Mr. Kimber...was that the Billy Kimber?" she decided to ask, her curiosity getting the best of her. When Tommy didn't answer right away, she looked up from the book with furrowed eyebrows. "What?" she asked, recognizing the confusion on his features.
"You know of Billy Kimber?" he asked her, voicing his shock at the situation.
"Yeah," (Y/N) nodded, "my brothers tried to get in with him when they made a run in London. He didn't want to bother with some boys from Sheffield who had a distaste for playing by the rules," she shared the reason behind her knowledge.
"So he won't bother with me?" he asked, his one brow quirked.
"You're wanting to work with him?" now it was (Y/N)'s turn to be shocked. She couldn't understand why he'd want to do such a thing. He seemed so secure here in Small Heath. He had power over its people and was able to command respect; what more was needed?
"Something like that," Tommy shrugged.
"Play your cards right and he may let you," she told him, her statement making Tommy nod.
"I'll let you get back to your work," he said as he stood from the chair and walked to the door of the office.
"Mr. Shelby," (Y/N) called out before he was able to completely leave. Her voice made Tommy turn around and send her a look that let her know she could continue. "Do you know what you're doing? Toying around with Kimber and his men?" she asked, concern seeping into her words. Billy Kimber wasn't a man to be messed with.
"I do," he simply responded, slightly nodding his head to the side before he turned once more and exited the office. (Y/N) watched him leave, her brain still trying to connect the reasoning behind this move that Tommy was attempting. With a sigh, she chalked it up to something she shouldn't be worrying about at that moment and got back to work.
ââ
"Matthew?" (Y/N) questioned after she opened the door to her apartment and was met with him standing on the opposite side. "I'm not working today."
"I know," Matthew answered with a smile. "I wanted to ask you if you'd like to come out and spend the day with me?"
"In the park?" (Y/N) asked, her ears perking up when she heard his suggestion.
They'd been going to a place they deemed to be 'their spot' at the park on days where it'd still be sunny after her shift at the Garrison. There, they'd talk about a plethora of things, from their past to their ambitions...Matthew wanted something more than just being stuck in Small Heath. He found being with the Shelbys worked at the moment, but he wanted to springboard into the world of business and betting for himself and felt that this could possibly be one way to do so. (Y/N) had not much of a clue what she wanted to do. She was content here in Small Heath...she was content with working at the Garrison. Maybe that was because she knew that the life she had now surpassed anything she could have had back in Sheffield.
"Of course," Matthew grinned, his answer making her smile widen before she waved him into her apartment.
"Let me get changed," she said as she quickly made her way to the bedroom door.
"You look beautiful as is," he called after her, his words making her cheeks heat up.
"I'll change anyway," she brushed his compliment off as she worked on changing out of her simple house dress and into something more worthy of being seen wearing out in public.
Matthew's grin grew as she came back to the main room. (Y/N) looked away from him as her cheeks heated up again, not wanting him to see how she was reacting to him. "Ready to go?" he asked her then.
"Yes," (Y/N) responded with a slight nod as she composed herself enough to look over at him again. Matthew nodded before fixing his peaked cap so that it sat properly on his head. He then nodded to the door, allowing (Y/N) to take the lead before he followed in step with her.
â
There were people at the park but it wasn't too crowded, most likely because it was a bit overcast today compared to what it's been the past few weeks. (Y/N) and Matthew were relaxing up against one of the big tree trunks in the park. They were passing their time by talking about things they'd been doing. (Y/N) was especially excited to tell him about a lovely bakery that she'd found while she was out with Ada the other day.
"Did you have a special reason behind wanting to come here, Matthew?" (Y/N) asked when their conversation about local pastry places ended.
"I can't just ask you to come out and spend time with me?" Matthew responded, feigning shock and hurt as he brought his hand to his chest in a dramatic gesture.
"You can," she brushed his dramatics off before continuing, "today just seems special for some reason. I was wondering if you had something planned."
Matthew's grin grew just slightly as his eyes found (Y/N)'s. With a slight chuckle, he answered her, "I do actually have something special planned out," he told her.
"See! I knew it!" (Y/N) exclaimed in victory.
"I think I've finally worked up the nerve to tell you how I feel about you, (Y/N)," he admitted, making her victory cheers go quiet as she calmed down and looked at him.
"You what?" she asked for him to repeat himself, wondering if she'd heard him correctly.
"I want to tell you how I feel about you, (Y/N)..." he answered her question before he took a deep breath and swallowed his fears. "I wanted to tell you that over these weeks, I've been thinking about you a lot...about how kind you are, how driven you are, how you seem to light up at the smallest things. It's made me realize that I think I've fallen for you."
"Matthew..." (Y/N) trailed off when he finished his declaration, unsure of what to say. Her mind was going at a mile a minute and her stomach was now filled with butterflies.
"And I don't want to jump in and ask you to be my girlfriend right away, because that would be improper of me to do out of the blue. But just know that I have my eyes on nobody but you, (Y/N)," he continued, his smile growing as he spoke.
"This is crazy, Matthew," (Y/N) tried her best to articulate her thoughts. "I...I can't believe you've just said those things."
"Can't believe it in a good way or a bad way?" Matthew checked, starting to worry about the outcome this would have.
"In the best way," (Y/N) quelled his fears in four words. Her answer made him chuckle as the smile returned to his face. "You're the first person here that really worked hard to get to know me. You're sweet, you're funny, you care...and you're rather attractive, which certainly helps your case," she admitted, her statement at the end making both of them laugh. "I'd like to take that next step; to be exclusively with you," she told him then.
"That's such a great thing to hear," he stated, breathing a sigh of relief as his smile grew, "I will properly ask you to be my girlfriend when the time is right. For now, I wanted you to know how I feel for you and about you." (Y/N) only smiled in response as he moved ever so slightly closer to her. She felt her heartbeat pick up at his proximity. âNow that Iâve said thatâŠmay I kiss you, (Y/N)?â he asked her then, his voice dropping to just above a whisper.
(Y/N) bit on her lip out of anticipation before she nodded her head, unable to contain her smile. Matthew accepted her answer and leaned in, pressing his lips to hers in a soft kiss. (Y/N)âs hand went into his hair in her attempts to get closer to him, and his hand dropped to her waist to keep her steady.
They pulled away moments later, breathless as their smiles grew. âThat was nice,â (Y/N) stated as she tried her hardest to not act like a little school girl.
âVery nice,â Matthew agreed as he laughed breathlessly.
ââ
Tommy was stuck with a tough decision. The Cheltenham Derby was fastly approaching and he needed to bring someone along with him to make sure that his plans were actualized. More specifically, this someone needed to be a woman who would be coming along as his date.
It was common for men to have a woman on their arm at these events, especially if they were going into the suites. For this to work, for him to get into the suites, heâd need a woman who looked regal and held herself with class. Two women came to his mind when he laid out these criteria.
There was Grace. Grace would look good on his arm. He was sure that she would be able to pull off an upper class look when wearing something other than her ratted barmaidâs uniform. Heâd be lying if he said that he didnât find her attractiveâŠshe looked so unusual and stood out in a sea full of dirty men in a dark pub. Sheâd be a quick and simple choice of a woman to have on his arm.
But then their was (Y/N). He couldnât get (Y/N) off of his mind since their conversation a week ago. (Y/N) would also look good on his arm, very good actually, and she had something that he felt Grace lacked. Not only was she beautiful, a âsight for sore eyesâ as Kimber put it, but she had knowledge that only she could bring to the table. Sure, Grace was bright, but Tommy was sure that her expertise stopped at dealing with numbers and carrying out the tasks of a barmaid.
(Y/N) knew of KimberâŠher brothers had already tried to make a deal with him. If she remembered any bits of the attempt theyâd made, she could lend them to him and make sure that he didnât make the same mistakes. She could make his go at this powerful business man perfect.
Grace came back into his mind then. Sheâd be a big help in getting him into the situation, getting Kimberâs attention, and would most likely do so without much ask. Given (Y/N)âs history with the man he was trying to make a move on, this might be what would make a difference.
Letting out a sigh before taking a drag from his cigarette, Tommy tried to consider all possibilities. He tried to place the odds on paper so that he could see how they were stacked against each other. In the end, the decision was close. One particular thing outweighed the other in his mind, he just hoped that it would truly help his case like he thought it would.
Both of the women were in the Garrison today. This didnât necessarily help in making his decision, but it certainly would help him in asking them. The derby was fastly approachingâŠhe wanted to ask the woman he chose as soon as possible so that sheâd have enough time to get herself a dress sheâd feel comfortable inâŠif she agreed to join him that is.
Settled on his choice, Tommy stamped out his cigarette in the ashtray and stood from the desk. He left the back office in search of the woman heâd be bringing to the derby with him and hoped that sheâd agree to it.
