Today we celebrate the Holy Martyr Christina of Persia. Saint Christina was from Karka d'Beth Slokh in the region of Beth Garmai. Her father, Yazdin, son of Mihrzbiroi, was the governor of Nisibis. She converted from Zoroastrianism to the Church of the East. She was killed for refusing to consummate her marriage to a nobleman, and was venerated as a virgin martyr. According to a Greek martyrology, she was beaten to death with rods. The exact date of her death is unknown, but it was probably during the reign of Khosrau I (531–579). Not long after her death, Babai the Great (died 628) wrote her biography in Syriac. Today only the preface survives. According to Babai, she was called Yazdoi "when she was pagan", but "in her new birth of adoption as a token of life, chose to be called Christina, a name that shall not pass". The Roman Martyrology describes her as follows: "In Persia, Saint Christina, martyr, who was flogged with rods and concluded the witness of martyrdom under King Chosroes I of the Persians." May she intercede for us always + Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christina_of_Persia (at Iraq, Karkuk) https://www.instagram.com/p/CptBX2hrXa0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

30 Days in Liberia: Completing the “Nymphaea” collection for my brand Guwala da Nele, LLC.
With the help of my university, the University of Colorado Boulder 's CU New Venture Challenge & CU-Boulder Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), I have successfully created a collection of garments in Monrovia, Liberia! Upon sales, I plan to come back to with local schools to ensure women and girls have access to computer literacy and STEM skills. I worked with a female tailor shop owner and bought my fabrics from a fabulous lady fabric store owner. I brought my sketches and muslin and these tailors perfectly executed my ideas!
This trip was so surreal. I have been dreaming of being a designer my whole life! I went to fashion school but didn’t take it as seriously as I should have but never lost my passion to make global change one seam at a time. This collection is close to my heart for it lead me to reuniting with my eldest sister from over 7 years since we have last seen each other! It’s given me a chance to see where my parents grew up, talk to people speak out languages and truly immerse myself in my culture. Though it was my first time in Liberia, it certainly wont be my last! I miss you already mama Liberia! See you soon :)
Stay tuned for the collection at the Guwala Da Nele Blog

I am Garmai Matthew, an undergraduate student and researcher compiling data for a research based documentary series called the Identity Project about 10-20 CU Boulder students of color tracing their roots.
Identity is a key component of a human being and what makes them unique. Being able to identify with a country or even a culture truly grounds people on something bigger than themselves. There are plenty of individuals on this campus who lack a sense of identity and the resources to find their ancestry and genealogy.
I want to challenge individuals who identify as being students of color and students who are involved in BSA, ASA, CSA & any CUE housed organizations to share their perspectives on genealogy and ancestry. This research will reveal if there is a need on this campus to have readily available resources for our students to discover themselves from a genealogical standpoint.
To be participate in the development of this research and series, please fill out the following survey ASAP!
