Finished the Gaplant Hrairoo! It's, uh, a bit less than the sum of its parts.
Looks good but almost immediately some of the problems begin to pop up. That ginormous gun is too big for the Gaplant's big 'ol gorilla arms to hold naturally. And those arms are pretty restrictive- you can get quite a bit out of the legs but between the arm design, the shields, and the shoulder pads this variant has the arms are fairly limited.
You can disassemble the gun down to a little beam spray gun (I think?) but it's a little comical versus the suits bulk lol
And your melee option is this: a solid hunk of navy blue plastic with no individual hilt piece and no suit storage. You do get two of 'em but... yeah. I am Not A Fan (and these are on the runners in the pic because I threw them out actually).
Fortunately, you don't need to use the hands to hold the gun!
The "tail" on the buttplate can hold the gun (a little loosely but it works pretty well). And, as seen here, you can pop it out and mount it on the shoulders. It looks pretty neat!
Here's our other big mounting option for The Gun inside the shoulder. With bonus shield-mounted beam cannons held in the hands for firing! I really do love how much you can do with this thing.
Unfortunately, we come to the other major problem here. The stand, or to be more specific the way it connects to the MS. The entire weight of the machine is held in place by a single polycap. It isn't up to the task. Balance the weight even slightly wrong and the whole machine swivels at the mounting.
Anyway, MA mode!
I posted a ways back about how much I like the torso's transformation and that very much remains true. There's essentially no replace parts nonsense with this, just a stowed v-fin part and two gray bits to hold the gun in place and then mount on the stand. You do need to disassemble it, remove some bits, and reassemble, but like it's an HG that doesn't bug me. Unfortunately one of the arms on my copy has a very loose connection in this mode but it's just the one so I think that's a QC error (and an easy fix tbh).
In the end, this is a kit with a lot of neat ideas but the bits between them are kind of subpar. If you're able and willing to put in the work it'll shine assuming you can fix that polycap connection (or that I messed that up somehow) but it really does need that extra touch.
I'll probably go back and give it some love eventually (and do the neat decals), but for now the process of trying to get good aerial poses and failing miserably frustrated me enough that he's gonna sit on my shelf in MA mode for a while.

The MAK-005S Gaplant Kai was a mobile armour used by the Earth Branch of the AEUG, Karaba, during the latter half of the Gryps Conflict and throughout the subsequent Neo Zeon War. Unlike its predecessor, the ORX-005 Gaplant, it was a non-transformable suit conceived as an atmospheric interceptor - an excellent means to challenge invading Axis forces. However, Karaba already possessed the excellent Zeta Plus series with which to establish aerial superiority, and as such only 20 units were produced. These twenty units would be deployed in rapid strike operations against (formerly) spaceborne Axis forces entering the atmosphere.
The regular Gaplant is one of those titans suits that I just see everywhere. We know that a lot of old Titans Stock was sold off by the Earth Federation (though to who exactly is a little unclear), and a transformable suit capable of long periods of atmospheric flight was always going to be a hot item. It makes sense that it’d have some further development with the fall of the Titans - though materials associated with them are politically inconvenient to Earth Federation itself, Karaba really isn’t in a position to be picky. The Gaplant’s just rather nice and straightforward. I will call out that I absolutely adore the wing binders, and just wing binders in general; they’re just a design feature I really like - a wing, a thruster, a gun all-in-one. It’s just a great economy of design and yet so stylish.
Armament-wise, the Gaplant Kai eschews the integrated beam rifles and beam sabers of the original Gaplant and replaces them with weaponry more suited to a mobile armour, namely Vulcan Cannons in the wings and some optional 12-tube missile launchers near the rear of the craft (not shown in the above picture). It also has some Diffuse Beam Cannons built into the wings. If it wasn’t for the fact that they can also function as regular Beam Cannons, I’d find fitting your interceptor with what are essentially beam shotguns an extremely ballsy move.
In case it isn’t obvious, I do very much like the Gaplant Kai conceptually - taking a Titans design and pressing it into Karaba’s service in the Neo Zeon War is just kinda rad, recognising the enemy was on to something and deploying it in the next war out of desperation. I like the Gaplant, so a variant on its design emphasising the mobile armour element is just lovely and I appreciate how much more specialised it feels - no longer a test unit, it’s Aerodynamic and suited to quick strikes. I’m of two minds about the colour scheme. One one hand, it’d be difficult to pick out against the clouds, so I can visualise it coming out of nowhere and attacking a surprised enemy. On the other, it’s just a little bit plain.

High Grade Gaplant TR-5 Hrairoo with Gigantic Arm Unit (AOZ Reboot Version)
Hoo man what a title. This was a really fun kit, and surprisingly the gaplant itself took most of the build time. The Gaplant itself, as far as I can tell, is a recolor of the original 2006 Gaplant TR-5 Hrairoo kit, complete with the almost intact transformation gimmick (which I did not do because I just like the big arms), and all the many many polycaps; probably my second least favorite part about this kit. Thanks to its age, the Gaplant itself cannot pose that well, but once you do get a pose it will be striking!
The arms themselves are plastic-on-plastic recreations of the Psycho Gundam arms, emphasis on “recreation.” These arm units were completely redesigned from the original Psycho Gundam High Grade and look and pose really damn well! There’s a double bend at the elbow, and each finger can bend at the base and the first digit. Unfortunately the finger joints at the base aren’t particularly strong, so getting them to *hold* anything is a chore at the best and impossible at the worst. I also just really like the shield binders off the shoulders, I just like shoulder connected armor :3c
My absolute biggest gripe with the kit (and is evident in a lot of Advance of Zeta kits so I’m told) is all the left over plastic
There is straight up two entire, nearly untouched Gundam Hazel B runners, A runners, a ton of left over Gaplant parts, etc. I’m not entirely sure what they were thinking with that, but it is a good source of parts for people who make customs. Maybe I’ll take advantage of that and try to make a Hazel Custom or something, or maybe I’ll see if there’s enough parts for a straight Hazel build

The ORX-005 Gaplant
With more incursions on Earth itself by Zeon remnant factions and other militant groups, the Federation sought a solution to the issue of MS mobility under gravity. While any mobile suit could make use of a sub-flight unit - such as the Dodai or Base Jabber - they were generally unreliable in combat situations, with rapid maneuvering potentially causing riders to lose balance.
Federation engineers began doing what they do best, and eventually produced the RX-78E Gundam GT-FOUR to serve as a proof of concept.
The machine - while plagued with issues - proved the viability of variable mobile suits, and was considered a success. With this success, the team was given the green light to continue development of variable machines.
The ORX-003 Domingo was one such machine, and would serve as the basis for development going forward. The Domingo stood at an impressive 25 meters in order to accommodate its transformation mechanism. It boasted an impressive mobile suit to mobile armor transformation time of under five seconds, but needed almost a full ten seconds to transform back.
The ORX-005 Gaplant saw its first deployment in UC 0085 as a joint project between the Augusta and Oakland research labs, incorporating lessons learned from the Domingo.
While the issue of unassisted flight was unimportant in space, the Gaplant was developed with space use in mind. Its MA mode was able to make use of the Active Mass Balance Auto-Control (AMBAC) system almost as efficiently as the MS mode, affording it extreme maneuverability.
However, this maneuverability came at a steep cost, and most pilots were unable to handle the intense g-force exerted on them in combat maneuvers. The Gaplant could only be handled by so-called Cyber-Newtypes, thanks to their enhanced bodies.
The Gaplant saw use during the Gryps conflict, where it was fielded by the Titans. At least two standard units are known to have existed at the time - piloted by Rosamia Badam and Yazan Gable respectively, with an unknown number of modified and/ or experimental units.
The Gaplant was also extensively experimented with by the Titans Test Team, resulting in a number of unconventional units, with some eventually falling into the hands of Zeon remnant groups. Recovered Gaplant prototypes were even modified and fielded by groups such as Karaba and the AEUG.
In UC 105, a group of hijackers used a Gaplant to approach and board Haunzen flight 356.
Known sightings of the Gaplant later on are rare. Notably, in U.C. 203, the wreckage of a Gaplant inspires Afranche Char to fight the Federation when it washes up on the shore of his home island.
The ORX-005 Gaplant was originally designed by Kazumi Fujita for the 1985 anime Moblie Suit Zeta Gundam.
This post was a request! Requests are always welcome!

So I've finally gotten around to finishing that mix of the RX-124 Woundwart and RX-105 Xi, I also used the Head from Alice and the backpack from the ORX-005 Gaplant as for the breaker parts is has the Funnels from the MSN-03 Jagd Doga on it's forearms (originally was gonna put them on the thighs but they anchored onto the arms), it has the RX-78-2's V-fin on it's chest to replicate the Minovsky flight attachment from the Xi, I put the RGM-96X Jesta's grenade pack on it's spine, used the GN-010 Zabanya's Holster Bits as wings attached to the backpack and finally used the Aegis's Beam Saber Oscillation blades as stabilizers on the calves. This is my first custom Gunpla so I'm sure it's not the best but I thought it turned out great

As you said yourself, you're a girl whos so normal about mobile suit designs, so i want to know, whats your top 5?
There’s no WAY I can choose JUST five, so have my favorite from each show I’ve watched so far!
First off, for The Witch From Mercury, we have the MD-0064 Darilbalde!
Next, from Iron Bloodee Orphans, we have the ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion Rebake! (I personally like the rounder shapes better than Full City’s sharp edges)
None of 0079’s suits SUPER stood out to me, so for that I’ll go with the funny name; the MS-14A Gelgoog
Now. Zeta had some good stuff going on, what with the RX-178 Gundam mk II’s original color scheme, the ORX-005 Gaplant, and the Psyco Gundam, but none of it beats out my queen the AMX-004 Qubeley!
ZZ had some even better stuff going on, with a second Psyco Gundam, and a better color scheme for the Qubeley, and a silly name (the Bawoo), but they’re all DEMOLISHED by the absolutely GORGEOUS NZ-000 Quin Mantha/Queen Mansa
Char’s Counterattack didn’t have as many going for it, but the RX-93 Nu Gundam did stand out to me!
And with the Char Divorce Quadrilogy over, it’s time to move on to the OVAs! Starting with War In The Pocket, which really didn’t have very many mobile suits, but! The RX-78NT-1 Gundam Alex, specifically when it had the additional armor, is really cool!
08th MS Team is about as bad in its variety, so naturally I’m going to go with the RX-79[G]Ez-8 Gundam
Now. MS IGLOO was. Rough. But y’know what? The RTX-440 Ground Assault Type Guntank is actually really cool, regardless of what was going on with. Everything else there
0083: Stardust Crusaders gets a lot of shit, for a lot of valid reasons, but good LORD is the RX-78GP02A Gundam Physalis a sexy machine
And I’ve hit the photo limit, so I’ll finish this in a reblog lmao
#this I say#mobile suit gundam#<-actually tagging this ask which I don’t normally do so people can find it later

Finished building the Ver.Ka Zeta Gundam.
A lot of Gundam alt-modes suffer from ‘clearly a robot in a funky pose’ disease. Especially other mechs from Zeta Gundam Proper. (In particular, the Gaplant is quite clearly holding its hands together in some shots.) But the titular Zeta in question hardly suffers from that at all. If I showed the ‘waverider’ mode to someone uninitiated, they’d be hard pressed to find the robot.
More miraculous however, is that fact that this model Kit not only is fun to build, but is also mostly rock-solid and has a transformation that is Actually Fun.

i think every flying type mobile suit should be painted in the zeta plus c1/a1 color schemes, some good candidates are:
bawoo (already drawn this up)
saviour gundam
murasame
gaplant
byarlant
union flag/overflag
🆗✅.
#side mission#two of these are seed suirs but i think they’d look cool#part of my standardized color scheme ideas#like with the zeon aggressor colors and such#asshimar doesnt count because i like it’s color scheme. and it has ties with aoz n such

If you were a pilot of any gundam, which one would you choose/which one do you think you would be assigned?
So this question has 3 answers
1: which *gundam* I’d like to pilot? Gundam Flauros (Ryusei-Go) from Iron Blooded Orphans
It can turn into a crab!!!
2: which mobile suit? The zogok, my personal favorite of the abandoned California Base suits
3: which suit would I be assigned?
The short answer? I can’t know for sure
The long answer… mwahaha
So the answer can broken into 3 main components
1: what universe Im supposedly a pilot in (and when)
2: who i side with
3: how good of a pilot am I
I’ll answer 3 off the bat and answer everything else accordingly. I am a decent pilot at best. Not *the* best, but not terrible. I’d at least qualify as an Ace Pilot (5 kills)
So 1 is a fun one because gundam has… a lot of different universes
This is currently the most accurate chart, just imagine the Witch from Mercury in the corner by the PD timeline
So let’s go down the line
UC
Earth Federation
So starting in the OYW (One Year War), the Federation got mobile suits much later than Zeon did, so my options are severely limited, especially considering I’m not part of the White Base. I have 2 options
The GM and the Ball.
I pray to god I get the GM.
There’s also the Guncannon and Guntank Massed Production Types I could pilot if I’m lucky
However after the OYW, the feddies created the Titans, and went through an experimental phase, creating suit after suit like the Hazel and Wondwart
The Titans would also make suits like the Hizack, Asshimar, and Gaplant, all of which are good contenders for being piloted.
Then the Titans got cut out and their MS stopped being produced and were all sent to storage or scrapyards. However the Feds were far from finished. They took the GM and make countless upgrades, making the GM II and III, the Jegan, and the Jesta
Now this is about where my knowledge of the EFF ends so I’ll move on
The Republic of Zeon
Now Zeon has a much more varied history, and I will be including Neo Zeon suits when it applies
So to start, Zeon had the humble Zaku, which then became the Zaku II. Later the suit was upgrades into the Gouf prototypes. Those are likely the suits I’d get if I joined in the early OYW
Now mid OYW is a fun one because Zeon did a LOT with aquatic suits. If I’m lucky I could land a Gogg, Zock, Z’gok, Acguy, or even a Hy-Gogg, though probably not the Experimental Z’gok seen in 0080 War in the Pocket
Towards the end of the war, Zeon introduced the Gelgoog and Rick Doms, which became their new mass produced MS
Although after that, Zeon dissolved thanks to all of their leaders fucking dying (The Duke was killed by his son, who was killed by his sister, who was killed by Char Aznable. Dozle died gloriously in combat)
However, thanks to Haman, Zeon rose again as Neo Zeon, and their army of transformable Gazas. I’d rather pilot a Ball than a Gaza, so I think that demonstrates how bad the Gazas are.
But that’s not all Neo Zeon did, as they also produced several other suits for their regular MS corps. Suits like the Zssa (pronounced z-sah, all one syllable), which I would gladly pilot. Look at her, who wouldn’t?
And Neo Zeons most infamous mass production suit, the Döven Wolf. The half pint Psycho Gundam covered end to end in beam cannons, with detachable arms that can grab into enemy suits, or swing beam sabers. Oh also, it has a psycommu system, which meant Neo Zeon had some damn FAITH that all their soldiers are innate newtypes
They also had the Zaku III, but that was kinda Generals only
Anti Earth Union Group
Rick Dias, it’s kinda their only mass production suit
I've reached my photo limit, so I'll just start directing to the Gundam wiki
And that’s all my UC knowledge
G Gundam
I’ve still gotta finish this one, I’ll get back to you on this
Wing
SEED
AGE
X
These are series I have yet to actually watch, so I’ll get back to you here too
Iron-Blooded Orphans
Gjallerhorn
Gjallerhorn isn’t very creative with its soldier suits, so I’d be stuck with a Graze, either the space or land variant
Tekkadan
Despite being a bunch of kids, Tekkadan has a surprising variety in their suits. I obviously wouldn’t be getting any of their Gundam frames, but I’d likely end up running a Landman Rodi, or a Shiden
Shidens are technically Teiwaz suits but Tekkadan uses the a lot
Turbines
They have Hyakurens. That’s it. Naze seems like a nice guy tho
Witch From Mercury
So this just depends on 1.5 things, whether I'm a student at the academy and which company I'm repping.
If I rep Jertuk Heavy Machinery, I'll be using a Dilanza
Peil Technologies would give me a Zowort
and lastly Grassley Defense Systems would give me a Heindree or Beguir-Pente
If im out of the school however, that would be a Dilanza Sol from JHM, a Zowort Heavy from Peil, or a Heindree Sturm from GDS. Im not providing the links, they're just variants of the aforementioned suits.
And finally, the Desultor (thanks JHM) if I side with the Earthian terrorist organization/freedom fighters: The Dawn of Fold.
If anyone knows more than me in anything I *have* talked about, feel free to correct or add anything!
I will be adding addendums once I've finally watched or read that particular piece of gundam media
Hope this answered your question! :3

MSG86: SIGNAL LORE
will be rambling about my potential characterizations for this AU here, gonna be listing down characters in two halves: Titans and AEUG.
Titans Test Team "VOGEL" - EFSF Penrose (Alexandria-class)
All Cyber Newtypes are from Augusta Newtype Labs, and will be denoted as ANT.
ANT-512 "Elster" - A former EFSF pilot and veteran of the One Year War. One of the EFSF's initial newtype pilots at the end of the OYW, she was sent to Augusta to be enhanced, later made to join the Titans Test Team "VOGEL" unit as a test pilot. Pilots a RX-121-2 Gundam TR-1 "Hazel Early Type".
ANT-317 "Falke" - A former Zeonic veteran under detainment by the EFSF following their victory at A Baoa Qu. Sent to Augusta Newtype Labs for experimentation and as a result has lost her memories during enhancement. Seeking the chance of having Augusta Labs' most potent Cyber Newtype, she was made commander of the Vogel Unit. She pilots a RX-124 Gundam TR-6 "Psyco Inle".
Lt. Ariane Yeong - A communications officer, MS researcher and unknowing Newtype test subject onboard the Penrose. Originally from the colonies, her aunt had brought her to enlist in the EFF military after the OYW, leading to her being chosen for the Titans in 0083 after the Stardust Rebellion. She does not realize the package of the Penrose - the mobile armor ORX-NT-0001 "Signalis" - was slowly attuning to her latent Newtype abilities.
Cpt. Adler - Captain of the Alexandria-Class ship "Penrose", secretly one of the initial Cyber Newtypes that was supposed to be part of the Vogel unit, but seeing his past life as an excellent ship captain of the One Year War, he was placed directly under the order of Bask Om to put an eye on the Vogel Unit's actions and tests.
ANT-921 - "Eule" (RX-107 Rosette)
ANT-194 - "Star" (RX-124 TR-6 Hazel II)
ANT-823 - "Storch" (ORX-005 Gaplant TR-5)
ANT-444 - "Mynah" (RX-121-1+FF-X29A Gundam TR-1 [Hazel-Rah] Full Armor)
ANT-023 - "Kolibri" (RX-124 Gundam TR-6 Haze'n-thley II)
ANT-481 - "Ara" (RGM-79EW GM EWAC)
AEUG - "The King in Yellow" Team
Alisa Seo - A former EFF veteran amd ace pilot that had served with the Cyber Newtype known as Elster prior to her enhancement. Seeking to uncover answers as to what happened to her former sister-in-arms. Pilots an older model RGM-79SPII GM Sniper II.
Isolde Itou - A young Earthnoid woman who used to be friends with Ariane. After her departure from Earth and the unraveling of the Colony 30 incident, she seeks to find Ariane as a form of penance for letting her join the Titans.
Erika Itou - The twin sister of Isolde and also a good friend of Ariane. Joined the AEUG after witnessing Colony 30. Tries her best to help her sister and find out what happened to Ariane. Pilots a refurbished RGM-79 GM Guards Type.
