走過烽火大地、硝煙戰場，拍攝過無數震懾人心的畫面，許多人都把Steve McCurry歸類為紀實攝影師。喜歡人文攝影的他，三十多年前以一幅《阿富汗少女》（Afghan Girl）為世人所認識，不過近年卻履被踢爆作品過度PS，有失紀實攝影之稱。66歲的他表示，自己早不是攝影記者，而是一個Visual Storyteller，一名視覺系的講古佬。早兩年他來港出席展覽，再度說起自己的名作。

1979年12月，前蘇聯出兵入侵阿富汗，導致當地人顛沛流離，許多家庭越過邊界逃往巴基斯坦，在邊界地帶搭起了難民營。修讀戲劇的Steve McCurry，畢業後曾在報館做過兩年攝影記者，1978年正式展開自由攝影生涯，不久就來到了戰事爆發前的阿富汗，憑著過人的勇氣拍攝了許多珍貴照片。戰事爆發之後，他的照片受到國際媒體爭相採用，1980年更獲得象徵冒險精神的Robert Capa Gold Medal。

The boy consented, and one reads in his eyes the vulnerability of his acceptance. We see a fragment of festive time, a stilled moment extracted from a noisy, exuberant parade.
