you know im unable to shut up when i have any opinion on zelda (though i try and have thus far succeeded at not commenting on any other concept from the darn book)- i find most totk ganondorf concept art worse than what we got to insulting even (of those i have seen) ..... this one though
much more the one in the background than the one up front, still at least he has the collar and the weapon we saw in the first trailer of things that never happen in the end (like so much else)
#ganondoodles talks#zelda#it looks like he got actual shoes in the bg one#which i like#also the big flowing robe is jsut cool as fuck#i like old japanese aesthetic but i still dont think it fits at all in totk#like its so clearly done to other him from the gerudo despite wearing their symbol all over#idk it looks so much more unique and memorable#sorry but totk gan normal looks a lil boring though i like the pattern in the robe#and his deeeemon form looks more like they tried to do demise again but not quite#like yeah lets use the design things on the uncool and forgotten and possibly retconned villain#and staple it too the much more known one :)#like yes he looks different from the gerudo still and very much still japanese in this concept#but it .... just kinda looks more unique and interesting to me#like in an either go all the way or leave it kinda way#yes i am biased#i love both demise and gan#anyway- i am still a prisoner of art (cant draw weeeee)#(plus IRL stress with my parents and weather change thus migraine yippiiie)

I hope you don't mind me hopping in here to talk about beefy women but,
Because I just discovered her, if I may add Wrestler/Bodybuilder Jordynne Grace! She does not have a six-pack unless she is cutting and dehydrating for bodybuilding competitions, and has talked about how it's garbage to still have six-pack abs be the definition of fitness.
If you're looking to do big shoulders/tiny waist/big thighs/definition, remember that hourglass look comes from flexed lateral dorsal muscles and a twisted torso, not a tiny waist, and hypertrophy, inherently, is Flexing + Dehydration.
Rene Campbell is an EXCELLENT reference for that because you can See the difference in her definition when she's training and when she's not.
As someone who LOVES drawing Beefy flexed-out characters, it's important to know that in reality: If You're Not Flexing, It Don't Look Like That
If You're Not Flexing, It Don't Look Like That
Rene Campbell, World Champion Body Builder ^
ANYWAY YEAH SHAPES!! Beefy women can hourglass but do they?? No(t often)! Girls want a solid core to carry thighs that can crush a skull.
all my advice about using real athletes to learn drawing bodies beyond hard abs, and my particular pref being wrestlers, also applies to women btw. you can draw women who r strong and not an hourglass shape. fucking do it.
kris statlander, rhea ripley (look at her SHAPE), willow nightingale, ruby soho, these r just four off the top of my head that have obvious musculature and different body types. skye blue and julia hart have more slim cheerleader style bodies as well, i REALLY wanted to put emi sakura who is fucking STOUT (adoring) in this post but i couldn't find a good demonstrative pic, the list goes on
DRAW DIFFERENT BODIESSSSSSSS
#posting this here bc I draw Bane and Ganondorf often and I draw Gan in Flex Mode#but even though I do draw him flexed I am firmly in house Bane Should Not Have a Six Pack unless he's on venom klasjdlkajs#look at real people who do the things your character does etc#nothing wrong with aesthetic but also variety truly is the spice of life and your character lineup will shine if you take OP's advice#remember kids the hourglass is a lie created by theater and cartoons exaggerating proportions I am not joking!!!

Echoes of Wisdom Trailer Analysis: Part 1
I'll tell you what, a new Zelda game, especially one this year, was NOT what I was expecting. I was hoping for a teaser a la "the sequel to BotW is now in development," but to have a full on main-series game come out? That caught me completely off guard.
But I've got my bearings. And I like what I see. So let's break down what we DID see, shall we?
Our opening shot has Link in some ruins, looking over at what appears to be Soldiers (as in the enemy, a lesser version of Darknuts), which are a staple for Fallen Timeline games.
However, they usually aren't this color, restricted to red, blue, and green. And they usually have swords or tridents, not axes.
The axes are a new development, as are the black armor and white capes. Maybe they've taken on the red -> blue -> green -> black -> silver difficulty pattern that BotW and TotK had?
Moving on.
Link here has a dark blue cape with teal geometric patterns on the back. Tempting as it is to connect this to the Zonai with the recent game-
-I'm going to abstain for now, because Zelda games like their teal geometry.
Looking around, the ruins Link finds himself in are unique.
We have eye patterns on the walls and double helixes framing the door. We haven't seen any pattern like this before, to my knowledge.
Link rushes in, sword drawn. The floor is plain square patterns on cracked tile.
We get our first glimpse of the Hylian Shield
As well as a clear shot of his sword. Oddly enough, it's not the Master Sword, or anything like it—it looks too plain to be something final, like the Four Sword or Phantom Sword:
And yet, it still very distinctly matches Link's current aesthetic, with the teal geometry.
Honestly, it looks more akin to a beginning sword that needs to change, like the Goddess Sword of Skyward Sword:
It's basic, it's easy to look at, but it's distinct and memorable.
Immedaitely after the cinematic run, the camera snaps to an overhead view, in which Link attacks. So there's at least a little gameplay as Link.
We see Princess Zelda in her crystal prison. Nothing unusual so far, but she definitely has a new look to her, even if her dress is distinctly Toon/Oracles/AlttP style remade.
Then we pan down to Ganon. Fallen Timeline's beast Gan, as we're used to seeing him. So far, he seems to look the most like his ALBW iteration, with the spiked cuffs around his wrists.
Link enters the scene. Purple mist is there for ambiance.
The pattern on the ground feels...ornamental. It doesn't stick out much or have enough detail on it to be the usual big-bad-evil-ritual.
Link throws his cape away dramatically.
Again, we get a camera-snapped view in which Link's attacks seem very much in the player's control.
And blocking Link off from escape, we have a magical barrier, though this one is emitting particles.
It's almost like Ganon's torn the ground open for this.
Defeated, ready for phase two, Ganon dissipates into purple sparks, only to reappear and start his tennis volley.
And here's where we get our proper view of him head-on.
ALBW's Ganon is a bit easy to miss in-game, because Yuga takes him over moments after he arrives. But he looks like this:
This is not our Gan's design.
He has the bracers, yes, but his forehead gem isn't spiked, his eyes are red, not white, his armor is gold with red edges and has chest plates that look a lot like really old art of ALttP Gan:
But most interestingly, his necklace is different.
In every version of Ganon that looks like this, he's either had a skull at his neck
Or a gem
But our Gan has something new. Something that, given the eyes in the corridor, feels deliberate:
There's a menace in this branch of Hyrule's history that's known for three things: a horned eye, purple magic, and possession.
And I'm out of images. Part 2 here!

I don't understand how someone is able to namedrop Heather Mason but not Harry Mason. He's her father. They have the same last name. Got all your SH3 info from Dead by Daylight, didn't you, Squidward
"Silent Hill is based on Centralia" is a myth perpetuated by Gans' films.
The Silent Hill of the games was not based on any particular town. The most you could say is that Team Silent based 2's aesthetics on several locations in San Bruno, California:
Letter From Silent Heaven - Rarities - Old Neely Street
Also, the games imply they take place in Maine:
Silent Hill, Maine | Silent Hill Wiki | Fandom
...whereas the Silent Hill of the films occurs in West Virginia.
---
I have many problems with Full Circle theory, not the least of which being that it erodes Silent Hill's ambiguity by forcing it to define some set of "rules" on which it operates. It would also require every character's emotional journey to be one of redemption and wrap everything up in a neat little bow...
But even worse, the theory assumes the town itself is sentient. That it cares about what happens to any particular character.
It is not. Silent Hill merely behaves as though it is because it is holding up a mirror to the characters' psyches. To assume Silent Hill has intentionality is to assume it is a god of sorts, rather than a force that manifests one's thoughts and feelings.
Mirrors have no sentience. They cannot force you to see anything. It is your perception which changes what you glimpse in your reflection.
The 1999 Konami-published Silent Hill Koshiki Guidebook likens the cycles of the Otherworld to the stages of REM sleep. I think most phenomena in SH can be attributed to this process instead:
silenthillchronicle.net/shkgb.htm
Q: Why does the town suddenly become dark? A: Even in the nightmare world, there is a cycle. It becomes night (?) on a number of occasions as Harry moves about the town. In the same way, there are also many times when aspects of the town and its buildings change completely. For the sake of convenience, this will be referred to as the "right side" and "reverse side" in this book. These changes occur because there is a cycle in the world of Alessa's nightmares which envelops the town. In the same way that a person normally repeats REM sleep and non-REM sleep in regular cycles while he or she is sleeping, when the nightmare world approaches a deeper darkness (sleep), a phenomenon occurs in which light is almost completely taken away and the world shifts into an even deeper nightmare as the cycle shifts again. As for the "right side" and the "reverse side," in short, it isn't that one is reality and one is a dream; the fact is that neither is reality. Incidentally, the reason the "reverse side" takes on such an ominous aspect is that with her burned body, Alessa's endless nightmares were twisted and amplified by thoughts of the malevolent god. Her hatred and terror became nourishment on which the malevolent deity thrived.
---
What's more, not everyone who comes to Silent Hill is guilty of a crime. Cybil's worst crime was driving too quickly on the road at night. Harry's was swerving to avoid hitting a pedestrian. Douglas Cartland never should have trusted Claudia when he took on Alessa Gillespie's missing persons case. Henry Townshend picked the wrong apartment to live in. And, God forbid, Eileen Galvin once gave her doll to a homeless man.
If the Full Circle theory applies to every single character, then that paints a very dark and punitive portrait of the town, where even innocents cannot escape. It once again implies intentionality on Silent Hill's part, casting it in the role of a god.
However, if rehabilitation of wayward souls is the town's goal, it's going about it in an ineffective way. If both kindness and guilt are punished indiscriminately, with one's fate being as much a dice roll as a result of their choices, there is therefore no "learning" a lesson that cannot inherently be learned. Those who are doomed to enter the Otherworld through nothing more than bad luck can expect to be trapped within it forever, or perhaps die.
How does the town determine how many chances any given person will receive? One? Two? Ten? Five million? How can a person know when they've reached their last chance? How can these "rules" of the Otherworld's be learned if they're subject to arbitrary change depending on the severity of the crime and/or guilt experienced?
There are too many holes in this theory to make it watertight. Occam's Razor would instead contend that Silent Hill does not punish people. People punish themselves. The town merely gives them the tools to do so.
#silent hill#'silent hill takes place in pa' (games!sh takes place in maine) (films!sh takes place in west virgina)#(john cena voice) are you sure about that

---*.°⊰⊹.Gyaru: origins and basics*.°⊰⊹ฺ----
By:Jessi_fressita
hai :3 this little post is to learn about the origins of gyaru and what the basics used to be. I'll soon make the posts about the styles, detailing what each one consists of. enjoy! ↓
Gyaru emerged in the 1980s as bold young women who defied Japan’s traditional beauty standards. Inspired by Western fashion, they began dyeing their hair and wearing striking makeup, challenging conventional aesthetic ideals. Over time, Gyaru transformed from a simple urban trend into a solid subculture with its own unique identity, encompassing both aesthetics and lifestyle.
Although it faced a decline, its recent revival, fueled by social media and the rise of alternative fashion and subcultures during the pandemic due to excess free time, has reignited interest, attracting both new followers and veteran members who have embraced the movement once again. Gyaru is the most commonly used term but "Gyal" and "Gal" are also valid, all of them meaning: girl/girls.
There used to be different ways to classify gyaru: Age, skin tone and way of dressing. ‧̍̊·̊‧̥°̩̥˚̩̩̥͙°̩̥‧̥·̊‧̍̊ ♡ °̩̥˚̩̩̥͙°̩̥ ·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙·̩̩̥͙*̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙ °̩̥˚̩̩̥͙°̩̥ ♡ ‧̍̊·̊‧̥°̩̥˚̩̩̥͙°̩̥‧̥·̊‧̍̊
Age
Ko-Gyaru (School Girl Gyaru): Originally, this term referred to girls still attending school who embraced the gyaru style. Over time, as kogyaru became known for their unique twist on school uniforms, the term expanded to include any gyaru dressed in this fashion.
SutoGyaru (Forever Gyaru): This described adult women or school graduates who continued following the gyaru style. Over time, the term "Suto-Gyaru" fell out of use.
Skin tone
Ganjiro or Shirogyaru: The term "Ganjiro" translates to "white face" or "bare face" and was used to describe girls who either could not or chose not to tan their skin in solariums, maintaining their natural tone. Their style was simple, with less exaggerated clothing and makeup. Today, the term "Shirogyaru" (where "Shiro" 白 means "white") is more common. It refers to gyaru who wear simpler makeup and clothing. Notably, this term was also used in the past, but "Ganjiro" was more popular at the time.
Ganguro: This term derives from "gan" (顔), meaning "face," and "kuro" (黒), meaning "black." It described girls who frequently visited tanning salons, achieving a deep tan but not to an extreme level. Ganguro style is marked by intense tans, blonde or bleached hair, white makeup on the eyes and lips, and bold, sensual outfits that were unconventional at the time. Kuro Gyaru: The word "kuro" (黒) translates to "black" in Japanese. Previously, this term referred to a gyaru fashion style characterized by a darker, bolder appearance compared to other gyaru styles.
Manba/Yamanba: Today, it contrasts with "Shirogyaru," describing girls who aim for deeply tanned skin, vibrant clothing, striking hairstyles, and dramatic makeup. These gyaru often enhance their look with white eye makeup, darker foundation, stickers, white lips, and brightly colored hair adorned with floral accessories.

I don't want to keep discoursing on evilsoup's post, so I'll make a new home for this sub-discussion here. To reproduce the relevant bits:
@max1461 (me) said:
I find that a lot of anti-anti-civ discourse revives (or perhaps merely continues, since they never really died) the cheapest fallacies of Whig history. There's not merely an acknowledgement of the (true, I believe) fact that industry and modern medicine make the lives of their beneficiaries much better, there is an implicit de facto and sometimes almost giddy dismissal of the value of all that came before. You get the feeling reading a lot of anti-anti-civ commentary that people are itching to condemn anything and everything of the past, and more troublingly any way of life that they personally view as obsolete, just for the sake of it. Just for the discourse thrills. It's reductive and it's unpleasant to engage with.
@sabakos said:
Honestly I have to say that indoor plumbing and modern medicine is good enough that I'd gladly torch even more of what came before and gladly spit in the face of anyone who tried to complain about it. Hypothetically, if the Ancient Greek language had had to be lost for modern plumbing to appear I'd flush the last manuscript of Plato down the toilet and lose no sleep over it. Fortunately, it didn't, but if it did it wouldn't matter.
You can't name one thing that even comes close to billions of people not dying of cholera or starving to death. So it's not surprising that people are eager to shit all over anyone who tries.
@max1461 said:
This is fine but it's totally orthogonal to my point. You acknowledge that Ancient Greek did not in fact have to be lost in order to get modern plumbing, but then gloss over this as if it's a minor aside. No! My point is that internet Whig history enthusiasts sometimes seem to be out to shit on anything and everything that strikes them as obsolete even when it does not need to be lost for the benefits of modern life to be enjoyed, for reasons that seem to me more aesthetic than anything else. Surely not everyone does this, but it's a common enough phenomenon to get on my nerves.
@sabakos said:
It's clearly something that bothers you, so maybe you could give some examples? Because this is all very abstract and I have no idea what you're talking about - based on what you've said here I don't think I've encountered this sort of guy despite being ideologically very similar to how you describe them!
---
There are actually people who think Ancient Greek (read: Inuktitut, Gan Chinese, Oromo) has to die for us all to get indoor plumbing! This is not actually an uncommon shape of opinion for people to hold, in the world at large. There are of course two versions of this, one more harmful than the other but both destructive: "we have to stop wearing kimono and start wearing suits or the Great Powers will never respect us", and "you have to stop holding potlatches in order to become civilized like us".
The point is not that these claims suppose different values than you or I hold, the point is that they are wrong, factually wrong. Unexamined Whig history of the sort which, as I said, sneers at anything that gives off vague whiffs of being "traditional" is making a set of factual errors. It's also often used cynically (as in the second example above) to advance political ends, but that's not really what I'm talking about here. What I'm talking about are people who seem to have a reflexive distaste for anything that appears to them overly sympathetic to the old, any cause with preservationist or restorationist undertones, even when it in no way conflicts with people enjoying the benefits of modern technology. This kind of thinking does active harm in the world. Random tumblr users are of course not likely doing any harm by engaging in it, given that tumblr discourse obviously has no political sway. But it's still frustrating to see a stance that is both incorrect and harmful so casually taken up over (what I perceive to be) petty discourse bouts.
Sometimes, old things are fine, and wanting to keep doing them is fine. When people oppose this, especially on reflexive, aesthetic grounds, I think it is bad.
To be clear, I've never seen anyone in this conversation (you or triv) do any of what I've described here. But I do see it a lot and it kind of drives me up the wall.

im listening to some zelda music compilations again and i gotta say 2 things
damn does the hyrule warriors, aoc included, line have some bangers or what
and damn, if you ignore the absolut blast i was having fighting koga, does totks music on its own make me feel things the game never did, like i dont wanna sound like i keep hating on it but man the music is SO GOOD in ways the game didnt deliver on and when i hear it i just kinda drift off into what id imagine the game being like with music like this and then be sad about the real one like the trailer music alone is just GOD what it made me think theyd dare do with the story after turning what was largely considered THE zelda gameplay so on its head, now surely totks gonna be daring in terms of story, its the most logical progressio-
oh :(
#ganondoodles talks#zelda#totk#music gets to me on a level that no picture can#like when i hear the music i tear up!!!!#and yet the only times i got teary eyed when playing the game was whenever i fought koga bc i was so ecstatic to have him back#and the cutscene were gan does THAT face bc i laughed so hard about it i half cried#sorry gan#the cutscene before didnt phase me bc the story didnt hook me at all and i knew sonia was the dead wife trope#but i didnt expect that face from him and im pretty sure i burst out laughing despite trying my best to stay silent during cutscenes#anyway the music makes me mad bc its so good#some themes even have a distinct joe hisaishi feel to it and that on top of the ghibli aesthetic they borrowed from#but none of the good storytelling makes me so god damn frustrated sad#i fear the next game ngl

Eucalyptus, water lily, and daffodil for the ask meme! Dealers choice on ships.
THANK U CRANBY
Eucalyptus: What songs are played at you and your F/O’s wedding?
i made a playlist of some representative samples for my stardew triad just for u
Water lily: Do you or your F/O cry at your wedding?
everyone gets answers for this one!
dove, elliott, AND leah all absolutely cry. we are the fucking schmaltz family lmao
fiannondorf have such a like, Big Official Royal Wedding that neither of them gets especially Emotional until they’re alone. then fianne totally does cry; if gan does it is where no one sees. but he definitely does
🌰 does the classic groom-crying-at-first-look thing For Sure.
julian and leto both cry like motherfuckers. portia (obviously the maid of honor) makes fun of julian like she’s not ALSO crying like a motherfucker
Daffodil: What do you and your F/O’s wedding rings look like?
the stardew squad of course have their mermaid pendants; they each wear one
i haven’t decided what i want gerudo wedding jewelry to look like in my au’s Lore, but it may not even be rings 🤔
leto and julian have rings that look kind of like this but the birds are a raven and a bush shrike. also julian probably has a red stone in his, For The Aesthetic
dani and 🌰 - i feel like her outer pattern being on the inside of his ring is very Them, tho i’m not married (ha) to this specific pattern. i could also see them getting simple finger tats that go under the actual rings (my parents also have them, they’re very tasteful)

In which decade bloodborne set approximately? I know what this is fantasy and sir miyazaki likes to combine things from different periods but which will most likely be exact decade or multiple decades? I am starting a new hobby, creating historical garments. Today me and my friend were chatting, and i showed her edwardian combinations underwear. You can google it, such i piece of art. My friend also said how Maria would look beautiful in it. But i thought what it is too late for our lady huntress's life to wear it. So what your thoughts on period game set in?
That sounds delightful! Enjoy :)
I don’t think it’s meant to be any specific period with any exactitude. I wouldn’t look at it as a painting, anyway, where one could identify the lace and tell you what portion of the middle class wore this lace during what decade of Victoria’s reign. I think everything is very generally Victorian-adjacent, and not worth niggling over this hat is technically Georgian or this coat is technically Edwardian. The tricorne hat was supposedly falling out of favour by the Napoleonic wars, and yet it’s THE headpiece par excellence; while the Doll’s bonnet puts her a little further in the early/mid 19th. The Cainhurst silhouette is at once strikingly and bizarrely 18th century French, and also not at all. We also know BB borrows A TON from Christophe Gans’ hilarious cringefest Le pacte des loups which is much more overtly pre-(French)-Revolution in aesthetic/costumes.
So to me, there’s no hard and fast rule based on the overarching aesthetic, except maybe “Victorian-adjacent fantasy”. It feel as if the narrative team threw everything in there from Matthew Gregory Lewis’ The Monk (1796) to Stoker’s Dracula (1899) - this goes without even mentioning Lovecraft - and already we are far beyond the length of Victoria’s reign. The same goes for the architecture - while generally Neo-gothic/gothic revival, there is a ton of other European influence as well.
I made a post about this concerning Game of Thrones a little while back, which is to say some of the more brilliant art directors/costume designers will know exactly what they are sourcing overall and then allow themselves a creative freedom above that historically recognisable framework, so the visuals seem at once glaringly familiar yet not constrained to accuracy.
Tldr; you can dress ‘em up however you like.
in conclusion watch Le pacte des loups because even if it's a joke the costumes are great and Vincent Cassel is absolutely hammy in it. •‿•
#ask#still going through the ask box#painfully slowly sorry#bloodborne#ask the art historian who is definitely not a costume historian and definitely not specialised in anything pre 20thc.
