Fun fact: that mad rat purgatory mod wasn't just my first time modding MRD, it was my first time modding a switch game, and also my first time making a mod in general

Also I only got the game like a week ago :P

IDK I was bored and after seeing no one had modded mad rat Monday into the game yet I thought "this is way out of my scope I'm still basically just a kid who's never modded anything before and don't know anything about how this game works" but I was bored so I gave it a try anyway, it was about as complicated as I thought it was going to be but I was so bored I kept pushing through anyway and somehow figured it out

This game's modding scene is basically nonexistent, and therefore there's basically nothing in terms of documentation as a result, I only found 2 others who had tried it, some guy on reddit who only edited the data files in a hex editor (who I only found after I published the mod) and a guy on gamebanana who made an Undertale voice mod, I had to figure out everything on my own but shoutouts to Undertale voice guy for including what programs they used to mod the game in their mod's dev notes (that I only found after already getting and using 90% of them) and for linking the last program I needed to finish decrypting the audio, I credited them on the mod's gamebanana page

The only reason I managed to do this is because I already knew how to extract files from a switch game dump (it's easy just grab switch explorer off of github) and I know how to search Google to find what kind of programs I'd need :P

I dunno why I felt compelled to share the entire story behind the making of this mod but uh there you have it I guess, you can search the mad rat modding tag on my blog and scroll to the bottom to see a detailed run through of everything I did leading up to finishing the mod if you're interested

Also, feel free to send an ask or DM my way if you want to learn anything about modding this game! So far I've got music, sounds and character dialogue names all figured out, and dialogue figured out to a decent extent though I've got more experimenting to do there, either way, I'd be happy to help out anyone interested in also modding the game! Do note this is only for the switch version, I've got no clue how to install mods on PS4 but theoretically with a PKG editor it can be modded in just about the same way too

File with a .VPK extension contains data – contents of a computer game which may be a map, material, model, scene, motion system or game’s add-on – the so-called mod. How to associate the file with an installed software?

Judgment: Pierre Taki Restoration Patch by Canzah

This is an unofficial patch for Judgment, or Judge Eyes as it's known in Japan, meant to restore Kyohei Hamura's original appearance and Japanese voice to the likeness of the actor that portrayed him in the original, launch version of Judge Eyes in Japan, Pierre Taki.

To explain the reason for this patch existing you'll need to understand the history of what happened with production of the game. Originally, famous Japanese actor Pierre Taki portrayed Kyohei Hamura, who is a very important character in the game. The game came out in December of 2018 in Japan, and mere 3 months after that in March of 2019, Pierre Taki was arrested for possession and use of cocaine. This resulted in what is known as "cancel culture", where all companies and employers of Taki started to erase his contributions out of existence, SEGA being no exception to this. The game was immediately pulled from store shelves and digital storefronts, preventing anyone from being able to buy the game outside of second hand used copy market. In July of 2019, the game was re-released in Japan as Judge Eyes: New Price Version, with the major change in that version being the replacement of Pierre Taki as Kyohei Hamura's actor, whose model was changed to a generic thug not based on any actor and all his voice lines redubbed by the unfortunately less than stellar performance from a Japanese voice actor Miou Tanaka, known primarily for voicing generic "grunt" characters. And, as expected, the western release of the game was based on the aforementioned New Price Version with Pierre Taki removed and replaced. Because I stand against both censorship and "cancel culture", I've decided to create a patch for the western version of the game that would restore Pierre Taki as Kyohei Hamura's actor in the game. Upon discussing the idea with Slow and Timo, we decided to pool money together and order the now rare and expensive original Japanese version of the game with Pierre Taki's inclusion, upon which I took the necessary files from it and created this restoration patch for your enjoyment.

All appearances of Kyohei Hamura in the game, be it cutscene, gameplay, voice or even UI and credits related are now portrayed by Pierre Taki. Patch is for the CUSA13197 release of the game, and confirmed working with DUPLEX release, running on a 6.72 jailbroken PS4.

This mod does just that, it replaces the remixed music from Kiwami with original PS2 tracks from Yakuza 1. In few rare instances where certain tracks didn't exist in PS2 Yakuza 1 (Lau Ka Long's theme, Amon's theme) we have used their equivalent variants from Yakuza 3 which are the origins of Lau's and Amon's unique themes that Kiwami remixed. All the tracks are naturally properly looped, with 1/1000 of a second precision for seamless loops and transitions. Volume levels are likewise normalized to be as close as possible to Kiwami's volume levels so that they aren't jarring.

Furthermore, the mod includes Yakuza 1 Kiwami Licensed Music Restoration Patch as it doesn't interfere with the PS2 music in any way whatsoever, so you do not need to install it separately. Feel free to read the separate readme for the Licensed Music Restoration Patch.

The mod is for the EU CUSA07615 release of the game, confirmed working with DUPLEX release.

Naturally, this will come out for PC version too, just like Licensed Music Restoration Patch.
