I “inherited” a trove of powdered pigment from my father, Harry Hansen. He used them in his encaustic paintings. This is such a treasure for me and feeds alchemical leanings...I’ve really only used this bright orange and the black, I just used, in the sunrise painting I was working on a couple of days ago. They always sit in my work space within reach. I acquired them well before he passed away but well in to the depths of the dementia. I carried them with me out to Arizona and back again. They have been contained in the box pictured...as precious as any other treasure. Only recently, upon stumbling across cold wax medium, have I been willing or had the courage to use them. I wish I could convey the joy that this cadmium orange brings me...it makes me a giddy, proud and adventurous.
