I am SO curious about #3 - how does Iverelle feel about Duskwight culture and Gelmorra? How did growing up there affect that? What's their relationship like to other varieties of Elezen?

Breakin’ this down but by bit, Iverelle is in fact very proud of being a Duskwight. There are small things about who she is she’d simply never give up—from superior hearing, to the practice she has navigating the underground systems that she called home, Iverelle is happy with being a Duskwight, and considers herself no different than any other out there. Unfortunately, compared to other races… Duskwights kind of lack in written culture, except “oh they’re bandits sometimes and can be rowdy” (Pointing at the dancer quest line, and msq). There isn’t much to go off of, unfortunately, but I do believe she’s proud of her heritage. One of her favorite hobbies, as well as being one of her biggest ways of showing affection, is taking people to some of the old ruins she grew up in, which were built to be self sufficient compared to the massive city that was Gelmorra itself. She adores taking said people on tours, and letting them try and follow the same paths she grew up following. She’s proud of how she grew up, she’s proud of being a Duskwight, and even if she DOES need glasses extremely badly (and will never admit it), she’s certainly not going to gripe about that aspect of growing up.

Of course, being a Duskwight in a family of Duskwights means she has some. Opinions. I’m going to expand a bit in the last little question, and go beyond just other types of Elezen—but, starting with that, her interactions with others are really… non-hostile until made that way. She doesn’t view Wildwoods any differently than she views Duskwights, despite growing up hearing a LOT of “it’s their fault our city fell” from her dad. Ishgardian Elezen are on a WHOLE different playing field in her eyes, she has no clue how to really… interact on the topic of being Elezen. Like, with a Wildwood there is the whole “we both are from Gelmorra, your great great great… grandparents just left when ours didn’t,” but Ishgard? Who different ballpark. This extends to Elezen who aren’t from Gridania at all. Of course, she’s always happy to see and interact with other Elezen, but it’s less important to her than the connection she’d get from another Duskwight who may also have grown up in old ruins.

Now. You did mention how growing up in Gelmorra impacted her views on the old city and Duskwight culture, but I wanna elaborate on something that has been in my head a lot: Iverelle. Does NOT. Like the Shroud. It does not help that she lives there with her wife. She doesn’t like the Elementals at all, and that spreads into a general wariness and a sense of unease whenever she’s in the shroud and Gridania especially. There are… worse places to be, yes, but all in all, she doesn’t quite love it. Yes she spent a lot of time there growing up whenever she explored beyond the ruins. Yes she detests it at times. Complex woman.

SO! Tl;dr: she’s proud to be a Duskwight and to have grown up in Gelmorran ruins, and despite how odd her early years might of been, from a lack of any real education to spending time playing in rather… dangerous areas, that’s one part of her past she’d never change for the world. One of her childhood wishes was always to learn more about Gelmorra, actually! Things like Palace of the Dead were always a treat for her for that reason—Issom-Har, in particular, is one place she’s always wanted to delve into (meaning she’s most definitely quite friendly with Rolandaix, that one npc that wants to restore Gelmorra lol). In regards to other Elezen, she’s more than happy to talk about things like Gelmorran history, and Duskwight culture, with Wildwoods—but this eagerness to discuss falters a bit with other Elezen with whom she feels she has no common ground. She just wants people to know about her home! She wants to learn more about her home! She also kind of wants more of Gelmorra to be explored than just wannabe treasure hunters going through the Palace of the Dead. Yes, she loves it, yes, she wants other people to take a bit more care. Come on. If the place is cursed and haunted by ghosts, maybe it's a good idea to. Dunno. Leave it be. Or at least be a bit more conscientious.

Spinning off 2 from the WoL culture and geography questions - you've mentioned before that Beef is originally from Aerslaent, but can't return there. Where does she consider "home" these days and why? Does any part of her still long to return there after everything that happened?

this is actually a very interesting question for me to tackle, because i feel like beef struggles with the themes of finding a home quite a bit even now

i guess the short version is... probably limsa is the closest thing to home for her now. it was founded by sea wolves fleeing aerslaent, so there are some common cultural roots that she finds comforting. plus it's a piratical seafaring nation with a fishing guild, as well as the two combat guilds she feels most closely aligned with (marauders and thieves), and also the premiere dining establishment in all of eorzea, all of which are things she feels drawn to.

that being said, in a way she still feels rootless, like home is still somewhere out there just out of reach. maybe it's what comes of being the traveler--feeling like home is always elsewhere.

i'm not sure how she'd feel about the prospect of going back to aerslaent tbh. on the one hand she probably still doesn't really Remember much of anything about her homeland, for good or for bad, but on the other hand she probably at least has her suspicions about certain things. either way i think going there would be very... enlightening for her. (i want her to go there so bad it would be so bad for her please she needs to suffer some more)

So this got me thinking about a Zee AU where she doesn't leave to Eorzea before the Garlean attack on her home. An AU where her aether overflows and she becomes a walking bomb. Becoming possessed with anger and frustration with every attempt to save her family going horribly wrong. Basically an AU where she learns she cannot rely on her healing and her magic, but where she makes her body her biggest weapon against her enemies. Thank you so so much for the tag @iron-sparrow this was so fun to do for Zee since she is very much about healing others, and protecting with her white magics. I don't actually have any AUs for Zee yet so a villain arc being Zee's first one is so fun to me! And its fun to think of Villain Zee's dynamic with my other villain ocs, Kask'ov and Belle! (They would not get along still bu in verrrryyyyyy different ways than they wouldn't get along with non-villain Zee)

No Moral Compass

You are cold, analytical, and you strive to be as objective as a person of flesh and blood can be. Either don't understand the concepts of good and evil, or you understand it perfectly and think it's a load of bull. Some may call you selfish, some may call you unfeeling, but you're just doing what you believe will yield the best results, plain and simple. Why bother with petty ideals of right or wrong when you can do what will actively help those you give a fuck about? Your goals may be selfish or noble or anything in between, but you will not let anyone make you feel like garbage for going after them. You couldn't care less about what people brand you as. You just care about getting shit done by any means necessary.

This is an odd one, since Tsubaki tends to have very strong morals in-game. It's what makes her so similar to the twins. Though, there's just enough similarities to make me wonder about a timeline where after the five-year time skip, she didn't end up with the Scions, and instead fell in with a bad crowd in Limsa Lominsa.

The bits about doing anything to achieve her goals? Especially for people she gives a fuck about? That's very Baki. She's relentlessly stubborn once she's put her mind to something, and once she decides she cares about you there isn't much that can change her mind. Even if this theoretical crew does some less-than noble things in the long run.

you have a goal in mind, and others brush it off right away... why does everyone always tell you to follow your dreams when it's actually their dreams that they want you to follow? your memory is weak, and your conviction is even weaker on days when you're reminded of how alone you really are. it's hard to go on without someone pushing you forward... is this what life is? a cycle of monotony, fueled only by the desire not to trouble anyone too much with your passing? it would be nice to have something, or someone, to spur you on. i hope you find them.

Okay so her place of birth isnt home to her, it hasn't been for a long time and she's never gonna consider it that way again, but she also doesn't feel like gridania is her home either. It's certainly the place she did the most growing up and spent the most time, having grown up in the south shroud, but like. It never felt like she really belonged there. People did eventually warm up to her and her mom but it wasn't her place y'know?

I think too she's a bit similar to etrii in that there are many places that have been a home to her, rising stones, waking sands, I think most prominently house fortemps in ishgard. But those places were never permanent, and ishgard has. Well. A lotta oops we hate dragons and they also aren't nice to au Ra big surprise! House fortemps has people that she's very close to, but I think after haurchefant died she just. Couldn't. Edmont always has a space open to her but it would hurt too much and she can't do that to herself.

I think much like etrii and I think iverelle too if I remember the post, home is her loved ones. Being with them, wherever they are is what brings her peace and comfort and so that's where she belongs, always.

I kinda forgot too that in my mind she's got a house in la noscea, I think she likes being near water. But it being a house doesn't really make it a home, it only really is when she convinces the people she loves to be there with her for whatever reason. Like them sneaking in during the middle of the night to tell adventuring tales, or inviting her kids to stay or like getting the scions and her friends to come over and like cooking for them. And etrii helping her make her warm rock oops I should tell my good friend gailiag about that thought

thank you @gailiag for the tag! this was really fun to consider and work on, and it gave me an excuse to gpose again lol. it took me a while to decide if this fit Iverelle well or not--I always thought that Iverelle was the type of person who would always and forever do the right thing, and even in her worst versions of herself (like in a villain ending), she'd be doing it because she believed herself just. But, then I remembered one of Iverelle's key factors: She believes in the good of the people around her. She believes that her suffering is justified, therefore she will continue to suffer it until her final death, because it is worthwhile for the sake of the people she loves. She would shoulder every burden imaginable, if it meant the people she loves would never suffer. But what if she gave up on people? What if misanthropy and nihilism won over, and Iverelle decided that not only was her suffering not enough, but that people around her didn't deserve her righteousness? What if she decided enough was enough? After all, Iverelle has a certain friend who she could turn to, should the two of them decide this is the best course of action. She's never truly alone, after all. And all of her fights and all of her duels with Zenos, it's changed her. She knows he's not wrong, in claiming she's nothing more than a beast hunting for greater prey. What greater prey is there than all who roam the star? She would do it, then, turn against all who once stood with her, for the greatest challenge imaginable, for the greatest thrill. She'd give her detractors everything they wanted. She'd prove them right.

But don't worry. Iverelle's unwavering belief in the good of people is unwavering for a reason. She loves people. She believes in people. She knows that for every bad person out there, there's a hundred good people. She knows that for every opportunist who would profit off of the suffering of the masses, there are a thousand who will work to improve the lot of not just themselves, but those around them. Even after all the abuse she suffered growing up, Iverelle knows there's still good out there, and still good people--and so, it is worth it to take another step, as exhausting as it is.

sooo my static decided to replace me with a friend of the raid lead's during my month of dealing with hurricanes and gnarly infections and no internet and other various horrors with zero communication from them except to drop the hammer despite them knowing what i was going through and so i need to clear m4s before them At All Costs out of spite

i've already powered myself into phase 2 but i am also at the whims of party finder so if anybody who has already cleared has the kindness in their heart to contribute to my cause of being temporarily evil and petty i will be posted up on primal for the entirety of the day until i clear, even if i have to go all night until reset. amount of chests doesn't matter all i need is the sweet, sweet rush of being able to post a pic of me having cleared in their server while they've only just gotten to phase 2 transition in their month without me. i am even willing to give you some gil or smth as compensation for your time
