Bonus art for this commission of my VtM OC, Gael, by @arc-tu-rus! Seriously, you’re so cool for creating a “found footage” version of the original. 

This piece was inspired by Paul Maheke’s Levant, which I had the pleasure of viewing at the Tate Modern. A single light illuminating the blurred movements of an abstract body in space, captured in the image for a brief moment before fading away, really screamed ‘Gael’ to me.

Her whole life she’s been an outsider, invisible, and living on the fringes of society. Now that she’s in the limelight with the Winters, all she wants to do is to retreat into the shadows and remain unnoticed again.

Gael was born at the crossroads one fateful night after a drug deal gone sour. Her only recollection was a fight breaking out and getting thrown into the middle of it before losing consciousness. The next thing she knew, she had awoken in a ditch by a desolate roadside, covered in blood and dirt, and consumed by an insatiable hunger. Following that would be her first kill, and it wouldn't be her last...

Bug, you are so, so, SO TALENTED!! It's insane how much I'm in love with this piece. The vibe and mood of it—oughhh—giving me the shivers 😩🤌🖤

As a runner for the Winter Family, a coterie who seized control of Amsterdam’s underworld by quick and brutal force, Gael has a knack for getting herself into trouble—only to wiggle her way out of it time after time.

What is my little Ravnos baby up to here? Is she hallucinating or is this real? Where is she and who is she? These are the questions I wanted to pose to the viewer, who is placed in a somewhat voyeuristic position in this private moment.

Thank you Ana for being so open to experimenting with this concept! I’m really in love with how it turned out—the hazy darkroom, the disorienting and unsettling mood, and the ambiguity of the situation.

Gael was so cool to draw! The pitched idea mentioned this blurry + grainy effect and I was looking forward so much to finish rendering and applying effects, I truly have fun with these things :D
