Motta, a professor of Health Law, Policy, & Management at Boston University's School of Public Health, conducted the study with his sister, Gabriella Motta, a veterinarian at Glenolden Animal Hospital in Pennsylvania, and Dominik Stecula, a political scientist at Colorado State University. The team set out to "put numbers to the anecdotal stories we'd become familiar with over the years," Motta told Ars. But, they were surprised by the findings on two levels: first, "We were shocked to uncover just how prevalent canine vaccine hesitancy is," and second, "to observe just how powerful CVH can be in explaining why some people might choose to not vaccinate their pets, and hold positions that undermine universal rabies vaccine coverage." Motta was also taken aback by the responses related to "canine autism," which he, too, noted was not a valid diagnosis. "On the one hand, perhaps this shouldn't be so surprising—these numbers match up fairly well with our previous research, as well as other public opinion polling, benchmarking the number of Americans who believe the same about the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccine," he said. "Still, to see that so many dog owners misapply concerns about a human diagnosis to their pets was, in my view, pretty surprising." Motta and his co-authors wrote that the findings raise worrisome questions about the health of pets who may not receive life-saving vaccinations, like those against parvovirus. It also raises concerns about the potential that rabies vaccination coverage in the US could dip below the 70 percent level needed to prevent the deadly disease from spreading to humans from dogs, which are responsible for 99 percent of human rabies cases globally. Last, they also worry about additional stress and disease risks to veterinarians and their staff. For now, the study is just the beginning of the work to quantify and understand vaccine hesitancy among pet owners. Motta says he and his co-authors had for years seen anecdotal evidence that Americans were becoming hesitant to vaccinate their animals, but, he said, "To our knowledge, no one had made an effort to attempt to quantify this phenomenon."

Milano: jazz, soul e funk con il combo Ok Bellezza

Per l’ultimo appuntamento del mese della rassegna “il jazz a mare”, organizzata da Mare Culturale Urbano e Rest-Art/Novara Jazz, martedì 29 novembre sul palco di Cascina Torrette si esibirà il gruppo Ok Bellezza. Come sempre, l’inizio del concertò è previsto alle ore 21.30 (biglietto di entrata simbolico pari a un euro).

Gli Ok Bellezza sono un combo jazz/funk/soul strumentale attivo dal 2014, nato inizialmente come duo (con Nick Stimazzi all’organo hammond e Nicola Tentorio alla batteria) e poi trasformatosi in quartetto con l’ingresso nella formazione del chitarrista Alessandro Borgini e del percussionista Sebastiano Sempio.

Il genere musicale di riferimento è il cosiddetto soul jazz, evoluzione pop-elettrica del jazz che è si sviluppata negli States a partire dalla fine degli anni Cinquanta e che unisce l’energia del soul e del funk alle raffinate armonie e alle variegate possibilità espressive tipiche del jazz. 

Le influenze stilistiche del gruppo, che ha all’attivo l’album “The Goods” (pubblicato nel 2018), spaziano dal jazz al blues, dal latin jazz al funk fino al rhythm and blues. A Mare Culturale Urbano, il combo Ok Bellezza eseguirà brani originali e standard tratti dai repertori soul jazz di alcuni dei più noti esponenti di questo genere musicale, tra cui Jack McDuff, Boogaloo Joe Jones, George Benson, Charles Earland e Groove Holmes. 

La rassegna “il jazz a mare” proseguirà nel mese di dicembre con altri tre appuntamenti: martedì 6, a Mare Culturale Urbano si esibirà il Monk trio, formazione composta da Martino Vercesi (chitarra), Carlo Bavetta (contrabbasso) e Mattia Frigerio (batteria); la settimana successiva, il 13 dicembre, sarà la volta del duo costituito dalla vocalist Gabriella D’Amico e dal contrabbassista Cristiano Da Ros; infine, martedì 20 dicembre riflettori puntati sui ritmi elettronici dei Crushed Curcuma.

Summary→ While going backstage to talk with Serena, Sugar instead finds Jessi getting ready for the Warblette’s set. The two continue their usual flirty exchanges before deciding to make a wager between them for the night.

JESSI ST JAMES

It was still about an hour until their performance would start,  but they were already there. Jessi had done her vocal warm up and had now taken to perfecting her make up. She was always confident that they’d be winning, but after their last win her spirits were even higher. She was applying some of her sparkly eye shadow when she caught Sugar’s eye in the mirror. Usually people who weren’t part of the group weren’t allowed backstage before the performance,  but Sugar played by her own rules and everyone was well aware of that. Her lips curved into a grin and she placed her palette on the counter, spinning around. “Hey there,”

SUGAR MOTTTA

Battle of the Bands was always one of Sugar's favorite days. Having them biweekly made her appreciate them all the more once they rolled around. Overall Sugar was looking forward to the night, because the Warblette's win from the last Battle was still a high she was riding. Unlike the previous week, Nicola wasn't there that night, which left Sugar to her own devices. She had decided she would go see Serena backstage before the Warblette's set started, but when she found Jessi St. James instead, Sugar didn't mind. In fact, as soon as Jessi turned herself around, a smile graced Sugar's lips and she gave a small wave, "Hey yourself, St. Dreamy," Sugar casually replied, her gaze on Jessi's own. There was something inciting and exciting having the unofficial Warblette's leader have her attention definitively on Sugar. She took some steps forward, her heels lightly clicking on the floor as she did so, "Your makeup looks amazing tonight." Sugar tried to keep an even tone as to not come off as much of a fangirl as she somewhat felt, "The sparkles compliment your eyes perfectly."

JESSI ST JAMES

“Well I used to say it sparkles like my personality,” Jessi replied with a grin. Back in the days everyone had wanted to be Gabriella from High School Musical,  but she had always preferred Sharpay. Surely, the girl had overdone it here and there, but she had been talented, good looking and determined, things Jessi had seen in herself. “You’re here early. Came to see me?” She then teased as she leaned back in he seat. “Everyone else id be accusing of spying for Pamela Lansbury,” She then added with a laugh.

SUGAR MOTTA

Sugar gave a breathy laugh and eye roll at Jessi's teasing. She had been around Jessi many times before, but it wasn't until recently that they had actually gotten around to talking to each other. It had surprised Sugar how much she enjoyed the back and forth they had, "You guys never have to worry about that happening. I always stick to where the talent is." Sugar promised as she stood more in the middle of the room now, "I was looking for Serena just to see what she was up to, but found you instead. I'm totally not complaining though... hopefully you're not either."

JESSI ST JAMES

They had been flirting lately. and Jessi wasn’t complaining. She was still beating herself up over her crush on Rachel and to see that she still got the ability to make other woman swoon definitely helped boosting her ego. “Au contraire,” She then grinned. “I’m glad you came to see us before the show,” she turned her head to the side then, pointing at her cheek. “How about a kiss for good luck?”

SUGAR MOTTA

Sugar tried very hard to keep her smile from getting too wide as Jessi spoke. She had met many people of all different levels of fame, but the Warblette's were a group near and dear to her heart. That made Jessi be all the more of a thrill to talk to, so at the mention of a cheek kiss Sugar's eyes widened a bit, but she got her composure back quickly, "For the sake of snagging a win tonight," Sugar agreed, bringing herself closer to Jessi and bending forward to be face level with her. She placed a her lips on the soft skin of Jessi's cheek in both a confident yet timid manner. She pulled back only a moment later with a satisfied smile as she straighten back up though didn't step back, "You know that now when you guys do win, you'll kind of owe it all to me, right?" She teased, deciding to keep their lighthearted, flirty tone.

JESSI ST JAMES

Jessi kept the grin on her face as Sugar places a kiss on her cheek. It was nice, this carefree flirting they were doing and she enjoyed the other woman’s company. Sugar was easy to talk to and somehow always managed to put a smile on Jessi’s face. “I will keep that in mind,” She then replied with a grin. “I’ll definitely treat you to one of the cocktails named after me, regardless of the outcome. Fair warning though: it’s known to make you dizzy. Much like the original,” she pointed at herself with a grin.

SUGAR MOTTA

Sugar put her palms against the counter top, her lower back resting against it as she stood next to Jessi. She giggled in response at first, enjoying their banter, "I have zero trouble believing that something named after you is majorly intoxicating, Jess." She pointed out. Jessi was less high strung than Sugar had always assumed about her based on how well trained the Warblettes were and what Serena would say when annoyed by her perfectionist ways. But Jessi was had a playful side to her that was previously unknown to Sugar. It made her want to actually get to know Jessi St James instead of continuing to view her from afar, "But what do you say to maybe upping the game a little? You know, for fun and to maybe motivate you to win a little more."

JESSI ST JAMES

Jessi didn’t need more motivation than getting to beat Rachel, usually that was of course. Sugar’s suggestion had her intrigued though, she couldn’t deny that. Besides, Jessi St.James was always up for a little challenge and a bit of a game. She grinned as she turned her chair so she was looking at Sugar once more. She picked up jet lipstick from the counter and turned a little further so she could see herself in the mirror as she applied it. “I’m all ears,” She the replied, glancing over at Sugar.

SUGAR MOTTA

Sugar was trying to keep a cool, calm aura about her as she stood next to Jessi. It wasn't impossible to do, but it was strangely difficult at the same time, "If you manage put on a show that totally outdoes your last performance, then I'll take you out for a Hampton's getaway at the penthouse we own." Perhaps the bold nature of Jessi was rubbing off on Sugar in some way, because she herself was surprised she suggested it. Yet she knew she meant it all the same. She wanted to test the connection she and Jessi were developing, and a trip like that would certainly be a way to figure it out, "I'll even take you even if the Warblettes lose. The determining factor will be just how weak in the knees your performance leaves me and the rest of the crowd. But fair warning, I'm super great at reading the energy in a room."

JESSI ST JAMES

Jessi couldn’t quite help the grin that spread over her face once more. She’d been to the Hamptons before, her Das had even invited her every now and then after her parents had gotten a divorce. It was something entirely different to spend a weekend there with a friend though, especially one with whom you had chemistry. It made her stomach tingle a little and she finished applying lipstick, placing it on the counter. “Well. You’ll find out just how determined I can be.” She then replied with a grin. “Better find someone to hold onto when I make sure you’ll go weak in the knees.”

SUGAR MOTTA

To fight the overwhelming urge to squeal with excitement, Sugar bit her lower lip instead. That did not stop the smile tugging at the corners of her mouth, however, but she didn’t care about that. It seemed doubtful Jessi would either, “Dont make promises that you can’t deliver, St. Dreamy,” Sugar teased, everything about her indicating that she knew the singer wouldn’t disappoint. In an effort to match Jessi’s suave attitude though, Sugar lifted a hand and tapped on her own cheek this time, “How about a  kiss to seal the deal?” The fact Jessi just put lipstick on should have deterred her from asking, but she didn’t care. If she were to spend the night with a set of Jessi St. James’ red lips stained on her skin, it would only make it that much better really.

JESSI ST JAMES

Jessi found herself grinning as she saw Sugar‘s smile. She decided that she liked that look on her and what she liked even more that she was the reason for it. When sugar asked for a kiss back the grin on Jessi’s face turned mischievous and she got up from her chair, leaning over to press her lips against the other‘s cheek, leaving a mark. “You’re aware that you have to keep that now, right?“ She then chuckled. “Wiping it off would mean bad luck for The Warblettes,“

SUGAR MOTTA

‪Sugar had hoped her request would work, but that didn’t mean she was any more prepared for when it happened. In fact, this whole exchange kind of had her head spinning and she hadn’t even gotten a drink with Jessi yet. She caught her reflection in the mirror, seeing her cheek have the imprint of her friend’s lips and though she had her smile still, she gave a casual shrug, “I can live with that,” Sugar decided, pushing her body off the counter-top and standing on her own again. “I wouldn’t want you to accept any less than my best,” Jessi grinned S she picked up her lipstick to refresh it. She couldn’t quiets wipe the smile off her face, but to be fair she wasn’t really trying to either. “And please. I never bring anything less than my A game. You’ll be blown away,” she gave the other a wink before putting her lipstick away. “See you after the performance then?”

‪Seeing Jessi’s wink sent a small, tingling shiver down Sugar’s back. She couldn’t (and wouldn’t) deny that a lot of Jessi’s appeal came from her seemingly unwavering confidence. In the past those Sugar perused or had similar feelings towards were more modest people, like Aria and Rowan. Jessi was a completely different category for the most part, and Sugar was finding herself drawn to that. After all, it was very important to try new things in life, especially if the usual was no longer cutting it, “You definitely will.” She nodded, biting the inside of her lip at the same time from the adrenaline their conversation caused her. She turned around so she could gather herself as she walked towards the way she had come in from. Once by the exit though, she looked over her shoulder at the starlet and paired it with a flirtatious wave goodbye, “Au Revoir, Jess. Try not to miss me too much while I’m gone.” ‬

Jessi couldn´t quite keep the grin off her face as she watched Sugar make an exit. Not that she needed to anyways. She enjoyed this thing that was developing between them. There was definitely a spark and she was intending on keeping it lit. Being around Sugar was fun and to make her a little flustered was something Jessi enjoyed as well. She had her playful side coming out and with having kept it hidden for a while she´d make good use of it now. "I´ll manage, though it won´t be easy." She called after the other woman with a grin. "Make sure you´ve got someone to hold onto though, I can promise you that your legs will have trouble holding you upright." She grinned before turning towards the mirror.

Com menos candidatos e etapas mais enxutas, processo da Safoni desafiou jovens a apresentarem competências e resolverem desafio sobre vacinação em app de videoconferência. Em seguida, os candidatos se apresentaram aos recrutadores e aos concorrentes. Só então, o grupo se uniu para resolver atividades e desafios. A dinâmica de grupo teria sido igual às que sempre aconteceram em processos seletivos para estágio, não fosse por um motivo: ocorreu pelo aplicativo Zoom. Ou seja, foi 100% à distância. Participaram cinco universitárias, duas profissionais da farmacêutica francesa e uma recrutadora. Agendado para às 14h, o processo seletivo não atrasou. Ninguém precisou se deslocar até a empresa. Em menos de cinco minutos, a recrutadora Natália Moreira deu as boas-vindas às candidatas e apresentou as profissionais da farmacêutica Bruna Martins (gerente de produtos sênior) e Maria Motta (atual estagiária). Como as reuniões de trabalho atualmente, o primeiro desafio das universitárias foi escolher o local adequado para participar da dinâmica: tranquilo, com boa iluminação e sem grandes interferências visuais. Apresentação Elas também tiveram que testar câmera, microfone e, acima de tudo, pesquisar sobre a unidade de imunização da Sanofi (à qual estavam pleiteando) e se preparar para apresentar as próprias competências e histórico profissional. Com três minutos cronometrados para cada candidata, as apresentações tiveram foco na experiência que cada uma teve na faculdade, pesquisas científicas realizadas fora de horário de aula e diferenciais competitivos. Um ponto de inflexão chamou atenção: projetos realizados durante a pandemia. Todas as participantes destacaram trabalhos voluntários e aprendizados conquistados durante o tempo livre da quarentena — desde curso de coreano a cuidados com idosos. Tiago Mavichian, CEO e fundador da Companhia de Estágios, afirma que essas iniciativas realmente chamam a atenção das empresas, principalmente em processos de estágio, em que os candidatos geralmente não têm experiência. “A pergunta de 2021 vai ser: o que você fez durante a pandemia? O trabalho voluntário é muito melhor do que um curso porque nele você desenvolve soft skills. Não é esperado trabalho para estagiários, mas sim, atitude”, disse. Desafio Por volta das 15h, a parte prática da dinâmica teve início. As cinco candidatas se reuniram para solucionar um desafio que a Companhia de Estágios havia enviado na semana passada a elas por e-mail: “Criar estratégias para aumentar a cobertura vacinal no mercado público”. Para discutir o caso, as jovens tiveram 25 minutos. Enquanto isso, as líderes do processo seletivo ativaram o mudo e acompanharam o desempenho das candidatas na discussão. É importante destacar a importância das universitárias terem respeitado a vez de cada uma expor sua ideia e argumentar. Em um grupo de cinco garotas, se todas tivessem falado ao mesmo tempo, teria sido difícil para as líderes entendê-las — o que causaria uma enorme confusão. Após o debate, restaram cinco minutos para apresentação dos resultados e minutos adicionais para as profissionais da Safoni realizarem perguntas para as candidatas. Gabriella Yukie Araujo, de 21 anos, da Unesp, foi a candidata selecionada para a vaga da Sanofi. Arquivo Pessoal Seleção das finalistas Diferente dos processos seletivos mais antigos — que demoravam um semestre e reuniam até 10 candidatos em uma dinâmica — nos atuais, as etapas são mais enxutas e poucos jovens são reunidos virtualmente. Segundo Mavichian, antes da pandemia, as dinâmicas eram organizadas em grupos de 40 candidatos e as etapas eram agendadas para dias diferentes. Hoje, são reunidos no máximo 10 profissionais e a dinâmica de grupo ocorre na mesma data que a entrevista com os finalistas. Com isso, o processo seletivo completo passou de seis meses para pouco menos de três. “Fazemos um alinhamento com o gestor para dizer o papel a responsabilidade dele no processo. Ele realmente precisa sair dali com a decisão tomada. Demos objetividade ao processo”, disse. Duas horas após o início da dinâmica da Safoni, por exemplo, as líderes se reuniram virtualmente para definir as duas finalistas, enquanto as candidatas aguardaram no link da reunião anterior para receber os resultados — bastante ansiosas. O que acham os participantes? A estudante do último semestre de farmácia e bioquímica Gabriella Yukie Araújo, de 21 anos, foi selecionada para a vaga da Sanofi. Estudante da Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), em Botucatu, interior de São Paulo, foi o segundo processo seletivo à distância do qual participou — o anterior foi para a General Electric. A jovem participou apenas de processo seletivo presencial na empresa júnior da faculdade, mas já consegue avaliar os prós e contras de dinâmicas virtuais: “O legal de ficar em casa é que não há o imprevisto de chegar atrasada e dá para fazer uma colinha. Eu deixei minha folha sulfite ao lado do computador. Estava preparada para a apresentação. No entanto, ficamos presos numa tela. Não tem mais o olho no olho”, avaliou a universitária. Apesar de distante fisicamente das demais candidatas, Gabriella afirma ter trocado contatos com a segunda colocada no processo seletivo, que também é estudante da Unesp. “Trocamos nossas contas de redes sociais porque tivemos mais tempo juntas na etapa de entrevista. O networking é fundamental para meu futuro profissional e, principalmente, de fazer novas amizades”, comemorou a nova estagiária.

Curatela e ideazione del progetto 

ACINQUE Un archivio d’immagini e parole per la Sicilia

Seconda mostra alla Legatoria Prampolini via V. Emanuele II 333 - Catania 

dal 17/11/2019 - al 21/11/2019

A un anno esatto dalla prima mostra a Palermo (presso l’Oratorio di San Mercurio), s’inaugura il 17 Novembre alle ore 19.00, nella rinnovata Legatoria Prampolini di Catania (Via Vittorio Emanuele II, 333) la seconda tappa espositiva del progetto ACINQUE - Un archivio d’immagini e parole per la Sicilia. Una raccolta di circa sessanta libri d’artista di formato A5 (210 x 148 mm), realizzati mediante diverse tecniche: dal disegno alla pittura, dalla fotografia digitale al collage, accomunati da un unico tema, ovvero il patrimonio materiale e immateriale della Sicilia

Il progetto è stato ideato nel 2018 da Giuseppe Mendolia Calella, curatore e co-fondatore della piattaforma sulle arti visive Balloon Project, contestualmente al ciclo di eventi per la rassegna ATTRAVERSO nell’ambito di Palermo Capitale della Cultura. In quell’occasione era stata lanciata una call in cui s’invitavano artisti, scrittori, fotografi, e operatori culturali di ogni sorta, a realizzare un libro in copia unica o tiratura limitata.

Dopo il successo della prima mostra palermitana, la call è stata riaperta e l’archivio si è arricchito di nuovi contenuti.

In occasione della seconda mostra dell’archivio sarà presentato un folio edito in collaborazione con la casa editrice Moondi contenente testi critici di Cornelia Lauf, Aurelia Nicolosi e Giuseppe Mendolia Calella, traduzioni di Gesualdo Busacca.
