Daddy Knows Best- Chapter One

Everly Schmitt becomes attached to WWE superstar Cody Rhodes, but her ex-boyfriend becomes a problem when he becomes jealous

Everly groaned as the sunlight glared through the blinds of her hotel window. She grumbled as she rolled to face away from the offending light, she fully intended on going back to sleep and just as she was about to drift off, her alarm clock rang out.

"Of course." Everly mumbled and drug herself out of bed. As much as she loved her job, she hated the early mornings. She sleepily brushed her teeth and changed into some shorts and a tank top, she pulled her hair back into a sloppy bun before heading out the door. Everly jogged down the staircase as a crowd of drunken patrons crowded the elevators, she headed straight to the hotel's gym where she could see some of her co-workers had already gathered. Just as Everly had started running on the tread mill, her best friend Justin hopped on the one beside her and smiled brightly at her.

"Morning Evie," Justin greeted. "You look beautiful as always."

"Good morning Justin," Everly greeted back continuing her pace. "Have you been here long?"

Justin ran at slower pace than Everly, jogging beside her.

"Not really, I didn't want to start any intense work outs without you." Justin winked.

Everly rolled her eyes and glanced about the room. Heath, Drew, and Jinder were messing around in a corner, playing air guitar and doing hair flips beside an annoyed John Cena. In the middle of the gym was Cody and Dustin Rhodes both working up a sweat. Everly admired the way Cody's chest rose and fell heavily as he lifted.

"Everly." This voice did not belong to Justin and when Macy turned, she could see that Justin had stopped his machine in order to stare down the person behind them. Everly quickly slowed her treadmill to a stop and turned to face the mystery person.

"Randy." Everly gasped out. She knew she'd run into him again, he worked with her after all, yet she hadn't prepared herself. After they'd broken up, she'd taken a year long leave to focus on herself, and upon her return, she'd heard rumours that Randy hadn't quite gotten over her.

"You look amazing," Randy stated. "It's been a long time."

"Not long enough." Everly retorted, stepping off of the treadmill and making to leave. Randy grabbed her by her upper arm and turned her to face him. "I just want to talk-"

"Get off her Randy," Justin stepped up beside the two. "She obviously doesn't wanna talk."

Randy glanced from Justin to Everly seemingly amused by his attempt to protect her. He scoffed and turned to Everly once again. "You dating Justin now? Got him as a personal bodyguard?"

It was Everly's turn to scoff as she tried to shrug out of his hand. "That's none of your business Randy."

"Hey!" Another voice broke out and Everly snapped her head to see each Cody and Dustin standing before her and Randy.

"Stand down dogs." Randy snapped. Cody smirked and took a step forward.

"I bet Hunter wouldn't like to hear his favourite little soldier is misbehaving."

Dustin stepped forward as well. "Of course, if the young lady prefers, we can skip Hunter and set about punishing you ourselves."

Everly's eyes were large, round disks as she watched the three men. Dustin was a lot more intimidating outside of his makeup. Randy stood as still as a statue for many minutes, the corner of his lips twitching as he finally let Everly go.

"We'll talk later." Randy murmured and walked out of the room. Cody watched as Randy left the gym and kept his eyes on the door for a few seconds longer before he turned his attention back to Everly.

"Are you okay?" Everly nodded.

"Yeah, we just... Had a misunderstanding."

"Big one from what we saw." Dustin chimed in. He turned on his heels and strutted back to their spot in the middle of the gym and resumed his workout.

Cody awkwardly extended his hand to Everly. "I haven't gotten to formally meet you, I'm Cody. I'm sorry for Randy's behavior... He has always had an anger issue."

Everly shook Cody's hand, noting how soft yet strong it was. "Everly.... Everly Schmitt."

"I'm Justin," Justin intercepted. "Gabriel... Everly's friend."

Cody clicked his tongue and shook Justin's hand. "We've met." He once again turned back to Everly. "I hope to see you around more Everly, and if Randy gives you anymore trouble... You can call me."

Cody produced a small card from his shorts and pressed it into Everly's hand and walked back to his brother. Everly examined the wrinkled card that had his name and number scribbled on it. She wondered when he had written this and if she had even been it's intended target to begin with.

"Earth to Evie," Justin waved a hand in her face and sighed. "I don't know why you bother with people like him, he's basically a Walmart version of Randy."

Everly tilted her head and stared at Justin in confusion. "Why are you like this?"

Butterflies - VI

Authors Note: Hi, we're back with another chapter from the unreleased drafts. It feels good to clear them out. Hope you all are enjoying the story.

Pairing: Gabriel Maddox (Rome Flynn in HTGAWM) X Reader

Word count: 1.4K

You make it to Gabriel's place as the 911 text requested your presence urgently. Thankfully it's your work from home day and he has a workspace but it’s not what you expected. You enter looking at the seemingly perfect man dressed in his suit and ready to leave. His usual cool confidence has been replaced with panic. His chest is tight and there are veins in his head signalling the stress he feels. He lets out a deep breath shaking his head in silence as he looks down at the little girl with big brown eyes beside him. 

“Emmy this is a friend of Daddy’s, YN, she’s going to watch you for me while I go in to work”  he bends. Her eyes leave yours and she looks terrified but nods barely moving a muscle still silent.

“Hi Emmy” You smile and wave completely out of your depth. She looks at Gabriel before giving a shy wave and you pray she’s the sweet kind child he speaks of and not a monster because the latter would be the end of your relationship.

“I have to go now” he huffs grabbing his briefcase and you follow him outside his door. Your eyes ask “what the fuck” and his close again out of frustration.

“Emergency motion to have an appeal so now I have to go in and work to make sure the appeal doesn’t go through on behalf of our client.” he says in lawyer speak. He was supposed to be off today.

“Gabe” you sigh and he tenses again looking down at you with earnest eyes.

“I’m sorry I’ll make it up to you I promise” G whispers kissing your forehead. You say nothing more, letting it go and heading into his place. His daughter looks at you with her fathers eyes standing absolutely still. You smile in her direction.

“I have work to do but how about we sit here and you can watch a movie?” You ask while sitting on the couch with your laptop and she follows.

“What do you want to watch?” You ask and she doesn’t change her expression.  “You can choose whatever you like or we can watch my favourite?” You offer and she nods nervously. She sits still watching it while you work until you make her a snack that she eats without complaint unlike any other child you’ve ever seen.

“What do you do for fun?” You ask only to get another blank stare.

“Let’s go for lunch?” You offer closing your laptop and she smiles. She takes your hand and you drive his flashy car. You’re surprised when she buckles herself in with expertise. Emmy continues sitting in silence but her big eyes don’t miss a thing. You hope it’s not an act and are surprised when she doesn’t want traditional fast food. Instead she readily eats the same burrito as you with all the  vegetable content.

“Did you like it?” You ask and she nods looking around the food court. “Drink some juice that was a lot” you tell her and she listens without protest. You wonder what her little voice sounds like and if she’s this quiet with Gabriel. Your thoughts are interrupted by a phone call from him.

You hand the phone to Emmyy who smiles when she sees her father.

“Hey cutie pie. Having fun?” He asks and she nods. “That’s good baby girl, is it lunchtime? What did you have?” He asks. Her eyes look at me.

“A burrito” I tell her and she looks back at her dad.

“A burrito” she says just above a whisper.

“Was it good?” He asks and she nods, holding two thumbs up. “I’m gonna get home as soon as I can, okay? I’m sorry today didn’t go as planned” he says, taking accountability for circumstances above him.

“It’s okay,” she whispers with an indifferent expression.

“I’ll make it up to you and I love you Emmy” he tells her. “I’ll talk to you later princess, can you give YN the phone?” G asks and she nods, handing you the phone. “Everything alright?”

“Yeah, she’s a sweetheart. No trouble at all” you smile looking at her and she blushes just a touch.

“Thank you, I know you didn’t sign up for this and you have your own career. I really appreciate it YN. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome” you tell him and he sighs. “Don’t worry about us, just finish up your lawyer stuff. We’re okay, I promise. Emmy wants you with her before dinner” you smile winking at her.

“Alright, thanks again. Love you ladies” he says as you hang up feeling like it's time to end things.

Emmy’s elated the moment her father walks in. She beams, giving him a hug and he picks her up, handing her a stuffed animal and kissing her cheeks. You get your things and stop the PDA for Emmy’s sake when he comes in for a kiss. Gabriel looks at you  a little slighted before he follows your eyes to his observant daughter.

“I’m going to get going” you comment, giving him a hug instead.

“YN” he reasons as you pull away.

“It was nice to meet you Emmy, goodbye” you smile and she waves.

“Thank you” she speaks to you finally and it makes you take a moment.

“You’re welcome sweetheart” you stand after giving her a high five.

Work takes over the next few days and Gabriel spends time getting settled with Emmy. Fatherhood takes precedent over the relationship. It’s why you don’t date men with kids. You could never expect your relationship to come before their obligation to their children. Most men aren’t good at multitasking. Not to mention he’s upset you don’t want to do dinner with Emmy and his mom. It’s just you don’t think it’s fair to Emmy to take her fathers attention when she clearly needs it. Or that you should get attached or emotionally invested in the family dynamics especially when it’s clear that there’s been some damage there.  Emmy needs help, at five children should be happy and expressive, not terrified to express themselves. Heading out for your midday walk you find Gabriel about to knock at your door with lunch in hand.

“Hey” you gasp out of surprise after stepping back.

“Hey, can we talk?” He asks and you nod, taking off your sneakers and heading to the living room. He unbuttons his suit before he sits. His handsomeness isn’t something you’ve managed to get used to. But his charm is off right now and he seems rattled. He gets his food out, readying his chopsticks with laser focus before sighing and sitting back.

“I hate that we’re not talking or seeing each other,'' he says plainly. “I’m miserable about it and now I’m pissed that you’re fine” he says.. He’s pissed but there’s no aggression as he chews. 

“Pissed?” you ask, opening the container of food  feeling safe still in his presence.

“Tip of the iceberg” he comments with his mouthful. “I know you’re not happy either but I can’t fix that if you don’t tell me how you feel” he adds.

“Emmy needs a lot of work,” you confess. “That’s not a judgement, just an observation. She’s quiet because she’s afraid to say or do the wrong thing. She tries to make herself small and invisible and she’s just a kid. You’re her father Gabriel that should be your focus and not me” you tell him and he stops eating and swallows before clenching his jaw. Now he’s offended and you feel the energy shift.

“You’re judging me” he comments. “Like I can’t do two things at once?” He snaps and it takes you aback. It’s a first.

“If she was my daughter I wouldn’t be worried about a relationship right now” you tell him honestly and he looks at you like you’re unbelievable.

“She drew you pictures for the next time she sees you, she told her psychologist about the show you let her watch, it’s what we watch now, she likes you. When she sees me on the phone she lights up when it is you. You’re both of our friends is what she says. So don’t imply that I’m causing my daughter distress” he articulates plainly.

“I told you from the beginning this would be much easier for me if we were friends.” you tell him.

“You have no idea the week I’ve had. I don’t fucking need this too.” He snaps getting up, he puts his food in its bag buttoning you his suit and getting on his shoes. Your heart says be a good girlfriend, your pride lets him go. You take a deep breath not allowing tears and try business as usual setting out on your walk.

Gabriel hadn’t, not once in his life, felt short. However, every time he was around Maddox, he swamped not only in size, but in clothing. So when Maddox had clearly been only half awake, dressed in one of Gabriel’s shirts that was clearly a little too small, the incubus tried to hold back his laughter. Gabriel had only stolen shirts from the genasi that were comfortable enough to sleep in. He wondered how long it would take Maddox to figure it out. The genasi seemed to be still in a daze, climbing onto the couch beside the incubus. Running his fingers through Maddox’s hair a few times, Gabriel waited a few more seconds, “That’s my favorite Cher shirt. If you rip it because you’re so goddamn big, I’ll haunt you even when we’re both dead.”

The NFL preseason doesn’t mean much if you’re an established starter. At best, it’s a chance to run through a handful of series and break up the monotony of training camp. At worst, it’s a few hours roaming the sidelines in front of a disinterested crowd while zoning in and out of some AAF-caliber football.

But if you’re battling for a spot on the roster, these games could be the difference between earning your jersey and being unemployed come September. Unproven players and longtime veterans looking for one more shot will use exhibition experiences to convince coaches they belong on the team. While stars are going through the motions, they’ll be the guys tearing up the field as though it were January.

This leaves a major opportunity for young players and journeymen to add a little extra name value in NFL circles. In years past, players like Raheem Mostert and Jacoby Brissett have turned garbage time’s garbage time into the resume fodder that kept them on full-time rosters. Who will we have our eyes on as the 2019 preseason kicks into full swing?

We’ve got a few names in mind, and we’ll be tracking their progress through the four weeks of preseason, so be sure to check back for updates.

Garrett Bradbury, C, Minnesota Vikings

Center isn’t the sexiest position in football. You know what else isn’t sexy? Butt sweat. And apparently that’s two strikes against Bradbury.

Kirk Cousins was all loose lips when he told reporters about his rookie center’s “posterior sweating.”

“He says it’s not a problem on gamedays, so the moment of truth: Friday night,” Cousins said playfully before the Vikings’ preseason opener. “That’s a big thing I’m going to take away from Friday night is how tough was it to grip the ball after he snaps it to me?”

Cousins was just having a little fun and really, there is no shame in normal bodily functions like perspiration, no matter where it comes from. Still, all eyes will be on those exchanges under center in Minnesota this preseason, because the last thing Cousins needs is another obstacle to fixing his fumbling issues.

Danny Etling, QB??????, New England Patriots

Etling showed up to the first day of Patriots training camp wearing a white jersey instead of his typical non-contact quarterback red jersey.

The 2018 seventh-round pick spent his first NFL season as the Patriots’ third-string quarterback. But he has been alternating between wide receiver and quarterback drills in camp as he fell to fourth string, behind Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer, and rookie fourth-rounder Jarrett Stidham.

Etling has also made some appearances on special team drills, lending to the idea that Bill Belichick could use him in a Taysom Hill-type role rather than a straight quarterback-to-receiver like Julian Edelman. The problem is Etling doesn’t have the same athleticism that those guys do. It’s a long shot that Etling makes the final 53-man roster, but we still want to see how Belichick uses this August.

And no matter what happens to Etling, he’ll always have this 86-yard touchdown run from last preseason.

Justice Hill, RB, Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore used the 2019 draft to add speed on offense. Oklahoma wide receiver Marquise Brown was the headliner of the Ravens’ draft class, but their most intriguing rookie might be Oklahoma State running back Justice Hill.

Hill was one of the stars of the NFL Combine. He posted results in the 90th percentile for the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, and broad jump. He won’t be taking over Mark Ingram’s role as the starting running back, but he has the potential to create explosive plays every time he touches the ball.

Just imagine this dude paired with Lamar Jackson in the backfield.

Hill can carve out a role for himself in the revamped Ravens offense with a strong showing in the preseason. He’s certainly talented enough to do that.

Jake Kumerow, WR, Green Bay Packers

The Packers didn’t do much to upgrade their receiving corps for Aaron Rodgers, and that’s an endorsement for youngsters like Equanimeous St. Brown, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and J’Mon Moore. But there’s also a 27-year-old Wisconsin-Whitewater grad with what may be his last shot to make an NFL roster.

Kumerow, a former Division III Offensive Player of the Year, bounced around the league before returning to the Badger State. He emerged late in the year to provide a useful third or fourth option for Rodgers, finishing with eight catches and a 72.7 percent catch rate, gaining 103 yards and adding a touchdown in the process.

He still faces tough competition at receiver. Davante Adams is a sturdy WR1, and Geronimo Allison is healthy again after missing 11 games due to injury last season. St. Brown, Valdes-Scantling, and Moore are all jockeying for depth chart position. So are 2016 draftee Trevor Davis and last year’s late signee Allen Lazard.

Kumerow will have a great opportunity in Green Bay — but he might have to show out during the preseason to stay on the roster.

Avonte Maddox, CB, Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles might have found a steal in the fourth round of the 2018 draft. Maddox was pushed into the lineup after the several injuries at cornerback last season, and he performed admirably.

According to Pro Football Focus, Maddox wasn’t just good for a rookie; he was one of the most productive cornerbacks in the league.

Maddox played a big role in the Eagles upsetting the Rams on the road last year as they surged toward the playoffs. Maddox played 100 percent of the snaps, recording three tackles and defending two passes — one of which was an interception.

Philadelphia already has one of the most stacked rosters in the league. If Maddox can maintain his level play from a year ago, the Eagles could be one of the most complete teams we’ve seen in a while.

Kyler Murray, QB, Arizona Cardinals

Who doesn’t want to see the No. 1 pick in the draft in his first NFL action?

Murray was the Heisman Trophy winner in his final season at Oklahoma. He was also a top 10 pick in the 2018 MLB Draft and opted to pass on a baseball career to pursue football.

He’s a dynamic, unique talent who will try to overcome his height deficiency (he’s 5’10) to turn around the offensively inept Cardinals. Helping him to try to achieve that goal is first-year coach Kliff Kingsbury, whose offensive system that will presumably be about the closest an NFL team has ever been to a college-style spread offense.

Oddsmakers have set the over/under for wins for the Cardinals at just 5.5 in 2019. So far, Murray’s getting rave reviews, but his performance in the preseason should provide the first indications of if Arizona will top that total.

Ed Oliver, DT, Buffalo Bills

The Bills already had one of the league’s better secondaries and now they have a potentially dominant defensive tackle to play in front of them.

At his pro day, Oliver ran a 4.73 40-yard dash and had other workout results that were more in line with skill position players rather than defensive linemen. The first-round pick’s athleticism should be on full display against the bevy of backups that he’ll see during the preseason.

Hopefully, Oliver is able to replicate this training camp moment in a preseason game.

Oliver will quickly get a chance to prove that he can replace the recently retired Kyle Williams as the heart and soul of the Buffalo defense. Oliver was completely dominant in college — now it’s time to see how skill translates to the NFL.

Kemoko Turay, DE, Indianapolis Colts

All-Pros Quenton Nelson and Darius Leonard headlined the Colts’ 2018 draft class, but there’s another member poised for a breakout season.

Turay had four sacks in 14 games last season, which is pretty solid production for a second-round rookie. According to Sports Info Solutions, Turay ranked 12th out in pressure rate among the 114 defensive ends and linebackers with at least 200 pass rush snaps in 2018.

While he has a slender build at 6’5, 248 pounds, he’s a ridiculous athlete who can turn the corner like a skill player, like he did on this sack against the Eagles.

Turay developing would help the Colts’ defense take the next step as they try to get back to the playoffs this season. We’ll get a good idea of his progress during this preseason.

Quinnen Williams, DL, New York Jets

Williams was one of the best — if not THE best — defensive players in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Jets picked him at No. 3 overall.

In 2018, Williams won the John Outland Trophy that goes to the top interior lineman in college football, but he can ideally play anywhere along the defensive line. At 6’3 and 303 pounds with a good mix of speed and athleticism, he’s almost impossible to block.

Williams is currently listed behind Steve McLendon at nose tackle on the Jets’ depth chart, but head coach Adam Gase said Williams’ “football IQ” along with his ability will make him an immediate contributor to the Jets’ defense.

Javon Wims, WR, Chicago Bears

Last season, the Bears drafted Wims in the seventh round. With a roster already filled with playmakers like Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, and Taylor Gabriel, the chances of him making the roster seemed slim. Then he impressed during the 2018 preseason and stuck around.

Wims didn’t play a whole lot during the regular season, but he made an impact in the Bears’ Week 17 win against the Vikings. He had four catches in the game, including two on third down on a fourth-quarter touchdown drive.

Just like last year, the competition is stiff. Cordarrelle Patterson and Riley Ridley join an already deep group. But Wims is still hanging around in terms of a roster spot, and another productive preseason could help him crack the rotation.

Hoping for a pick me up while mulling through decisions you end up at a pet store run by a breeder. You enter in heading to the back where the dogs play freely in the facility. The puppies are adorable. And have your full attention until you’re hand is touched. Pulling back and looking down Emmy smilies waving.

“Hi Emmy” you smile making her day.

“Emmy” a woman calls and she shrinks at your side. “I’m sorry miss,” the woman says. “Emmy come on we’re leaving, we have to get back to the daycare” she reasons, reaching for Isabel who uses you like a human shield. Isabel clearly in distress.

“YN, a friend of the family” you speak on her behalf and Emmy takes your hand.

“Can you get her to come back with us? We’ve called dad more times than I’d like to admit today already” the woman says looking exhausted.

“I’ll walk back with you guys if it’s not far? How about that Emmy?” you ask and she nods standing at your side not ready to walk.

“Or course, I’m Lindsay. Emmy’s support worker” she says.

“Nice to meet you,” you smile.

 “What are your tricks? She’s usually not so cooperative” the woman says with zero regard for Emmy who’s quiet, not deaf and can understand just fine..

“Being positive goes far. Patience too. Emmy’s a smart girl right?” You smile at Emmy feeling protective of her and her feelings..

The walk back isn’t too far and it’s  pick up time when you arrive at the facility. Gabriel is on the phone but he stands upright hanging up when he sees you with Izzy and her support worker. She runs to him giving him a hug and he greets her with warmth. He glares at you visibly unhappy before leaving Emmy at your side to speak to her support worker.

“I was at the pet store, Emmy came up to me. Her worker looked stressed so I tried to make things as painless as possible” you reason after he gets Emmy in his car shutting the door to give you both some privacy. He’s still visibly upset. He says nothing tapping the roof of the car so you turn to walk back to your car.

“Let me give you a ride, it’s the least I can do” he says, opening the passenger door.

“Burritos please!” Emmy says once we get in. Gabriel raises an eyebrow and you nod in acceptance.

“Alright princess” he smiles, turning to his daughter who gives him a thumbs up. Dinner is great and you end up back at his place where Emmy shows you her drawings before being put to bed. Gabriel emerges from her room heading straight for a bottle of spirits making himself a drink.

“I’d offer but you’re driving” he addresses you for the first time.

“He speaks” you comment, getting your  purse and heading for your shoes.

“This is not my fault.” He says pointing between the two of you. “I tried, I communicated, I’ve been reasonable. You made your stance pretty clear” he comments while taking another sip.

“Whatever” you comment and he chuckles out of annoyance.

“Why were you in the area? There are breeders in your neck of the woods, trails, everything” he reasons making a point.

“Your tone isn’t making me want to tell the truth” You confess fighting the part of you that says leave, the part of you that has very real feelings for him.

“Maybe then we’ll get somewhere cause accommodating and understanding hasn’t worked” he comments frankly. You drop my purse on the couch heading to his liquor cabinet and pour yourself something as he stands watching you return to the couch sitting down and sipping the strong wine.

“Emmy it’s bedtime” he says  and she hides behind the corner.

“Five more minutes?” She asks.

“Emmy it’s really late and Maria says you don’t like waking up” Gaabriel reasons. 

“Little ladies need their rest” you interject and she smiles dashing back into her room and shutting the door. Your influence on her is evident.

Gabriel sighs again sitting on the couch visibly exhausted. He reaches for you, pulling you in and holding you close. He wraps his arms around your torso and  you his neck as you sit in his lap. His breathing slows and you feel the tension dissolve. You allow yourself to relax, grateful for the olive branch and affection.

“I’m sorry, this is new for me. I want the best for you and Emmy. We’re adults if we don’t work out it’s our own free will but her.”

“YN, stop saying we won’t work out and the best thing for Emmy is seeing me happy.” He reasons. “Emmy doesn’t like people but she loves you. That has to mean something” he swallows.

“It does - more pressure” you shrug feeling stuck.

“But I see you with her, it's second nature” he sighs. “And you like her, and she likes you, I can’t understand the issue” he snaps but he’ll never understand.

“It’s the principle” you reason and he nods finished with the circular conversation.

“I’m going to shower, feel free to do the same your stuff is in your drawer” he says getting up.

“What are you doing tomorrow?” you ask

“My prepping for a case, my moms picking Emmy up from daycare at lunch for the weekend” he explains.

“So, can you pencil me in for 5:00?” You ask and he nods heading to shower. You take a shower in the guest bathroom and finish before him but he doesn’t come to bed giving you space and sleeping on the couch. He’s trying to get you to tell him how you feel but you just sleep in his bed alone.

“Bye YN” a small voice says and you look up to see Isabel timidly watching you.

“You’re off to daycare?” I ask sitting up. And she nods.

“Have a fun day, be good okay” I smile and she gives you a thumbs up. She leaves and you take your  time doing your morning routine and getting dressed. You find breakfast waiting when you’re finished and Gabriel back from the school run..

“Thanks” you comment.

“Your welcome, drop off was smooth today, whatever you said to her worked, thanks” he comments.

“I don’t want to fight with you Gabriel” you sigh and he looks away. 

“My morning depositions have been cancelled,” he says.

“I’m off today” you comment. “So tell me why you’re so stressed out?” you ask and he chuckles. 

“Aside from the obvious” he swallows. “The custody stuff is never ending. She won’t submit to any of her tests! It’s driving me crazy and I want to charge her for neglect. Emmy is afraid to talk, she doesn’t understand boundaries. She cries at school and doesn't make friends. I’m trying to straddle being the best at my career and the best dad I can be.” He explains wearily, his stubble slightly overgrown but he’s still gorgeous nonetheless. “Not to mention, my girl. We’ve been on the rocks” he says.

“Pssh, no way any woman would be so stupid” you smile attempting to keep things light.

“Not stupid, she doesn’t trust me” he swallows. “I don’t know why because it’s clear she loves being with me and my daughter.” He sighs you stroke his stubble.

“I do trust you Gabe” you  admit. He leans back giving a ‘nigga please’ look and it makes you laugh. 

“I got us spa tickets for later on, I know you’re busy but maybe, just maybe you could get Emmy a dog. Zoo therapy does wonders for children. I know a trainer that could help make things a little easier” I offer.

“So your idea of parenting is spoiling children rotten?” he asks amused.

“Exactly” you nod and he smiles. “She’s not rude and it’d make her year. She’d speak more too, maybe to give the dog commands. We could go on walks and if you have work I can take the puppy for you. She could do the training with the puppy and it could build her confidence. She could have her confidant while she builds her trust back in people. That’s it G, you’re getting Emmy a dog” you’ve convinced yourself and he smiles.

“That’s a big commitment for someone who’s afraid of it” he comments, not understanding that it's not Emmy that you're skittish about. Him the seemingly perfect guy that just so happened to be at your lunch hall, the guy who has his shit together and shows up and gives you butterflies and who you feel for more than he could know. Juggling all that between two career oriented professionals is enough already, add in a custody battle and a clearly deeply flawed ex and a child. How could anyone commit to that level of uncertainty without trepidation?

“I’ve always been steadfast in my commitment to your daughters well being” you swallow keeping the other thoughts to yourself.

“Now I’m feeling left out” he comments but he doesn’t mean it. You lean in pecking his lips and he takes your chin slowing the kiss down . His lips are soft, his kiss slow, teasing and provocative. Your temperature rises trying to handle it. 

“I missed you” he rasps his body language and says he wants you. He needs you. His touch, his kiss, everything is intoxicating. It’s not submission or surrender, it's trust when you let him have you. More than anything you want this to last forever. Your heart wins and you decide to let yourself live in the moment and be happy for right now. Gabriel’s eyes soften and it’s like he knows, he smiles before leaning in with the kiss that melts you. He’s true to his word. He takes care of you, he’s attentive, soft when he needs to be and hard to take you over the edge. He listens to every cue. Whispering the sweetest and the naughtiest things into your ear. He’s committed, he’s just as deep in this as he feels. He’s rock hard and every inch of him feels amazing. He holds your hand kissing your shoulder as he switches positions now, the big spoon and still inside you as he drills faster. He lets go of one hand holding your neck.

“There you go baby” he says moments before you feel an insane rush. Your body goes weak and he follows.

Authors Note: Because of the interest and sweetness of this fic, I've decided to purge my drafts and release the unreleased chapters I had before I put a pin in writing it. Hope you all enjoy, I really appreciate all the support and love you have for this fic 💕

Pairing: Gabriel Maddox (Rome Flynn in HTGAWM) X Reader

Word count: 1.7K

You sigh, feeling a little crazy. Gabriel’s been so engrossed in his custody battle he has little time for anything besides good mornings and good nights. Spending the night with him was everything. It felt comfortable, with a strange sense of familiarity, maybe because you’d spent so much time dreaming about having all of the feelings you have for him for someone. One day.

“Where are you?” your bestie asks as you sit contemplating his daughter's room, trying to keep it as blank as possible.

“Gabriel’s” you tell her and her brows bunch.

“Gabriel’s?” She asks.

“He’s away and gave me the keys. After my shopping spree I decided to use the money he gave me for emergencies to decorate his daughters room” you explain.

“What if he doesn’t win?” she asks, always the voice of reason.

“Well I don’t think that’ll happen. But if that is the case at least he can see I care and believe in him” you shrug.

“Let’s see what it is so far?” She asks and you stand showing her what you’ve done.

“I might’ve gone a little overboard” you cringe showing the bed with a high house style wooden canopy with the blue and pink cloud drapes pulled around it. There’s a lot of white and grey allowing for her to choose her own pieces, a place for stuffed animals, a place for her to do artwork, cozy Mats for floor play and bookcases that still needs to be stocked. “I put post-it’s with requests so when G has her they can make a day out of finishing her room” you explain, and when you look at the camera she’s smiling from ear to ear.

“What?” You ask and she shakes her head.

“You love him” she states, shaking her head. “Aww it’s perfect and he doesn’t know how lucky he is to have you” she coos. You roll your eyes to keep from blushing as hard as you want to.

“I definitely care about him, it’s been four months and he’s never done anything to give me cause for worry” you admit. 

“You’re doing amazing and both of them will love it” she assures and you look around at the kind of room you only dreamed of having as a little girl.

You check your watch to see what time it is and speed walk to the terminal half an hour late to pick Gabriel up because of the traffic. He’d only texted you the details for his pick up and the two of you haven’t talked in two days. Longer than typical. You get on the escalator hoping to catch him at arrivals when he catches your eye in deep thought until he sees you lighting up. He gets off his escalator to go down and meet you.

“Hey” you smile only to be picked up and given the warmest hug, he smells incredible.

“I missed you” he squeezes kissing your cheek.

“You too” You admit and he pecks your lips it's scary how good you feel with the familiarity of being with him and in his arms.

“Can you spend the night?” He asks.

“Sure,” you agree. Walking hand in hand with him is something you’ve missed over the past ten days. He puts his bags away after letting you in. He starts the car leaning in for another kiss.

“How’d it go?” You ask and his jaw tightens.

“In the right direction I guess. I’m being evaluated for the next two weeks. She painted me out to be a reckless party boy. Which I was but not when my kid is around. I have to prove my home is kid friendly. I’ll have my neighbours attest to the fact that I’ve never had a party, strangers aren’t in and out of the home, I’ll see a shrink to submit a mental evaluation which is more than she’s ever had - to show I can be a responsible parent” he explains.

“Full custody?” You ask and he nods.

“Yeah, she refuses to share or consider what I think is best. It was her idea. She’s that spiteful” he shakes his head. “I can’t move on if I have a child to raise” his logic is scary and the turbulent relation between him and his child’s mother is a huge red flag.

“Well I’m happy you’re back and I have a surprise for you” you smile setting the alarms aside for the moment.

“A pick me up?”

“I hope so” you admit and when you get in the house you get the sleep mask and put it over his eyes.

“Follow me”  you tell him, holding his hands and stopping at the room next to his. “Take it off” 

“Babe!” He smiles looking at you and looking around the room. His smile is big and couldn’t be more genuine. “Baby!” He shouts in disbelief.

“I was bored and I wanted to do something nice for you and your kid” you admit and he goes to a sticky note.

“Daddy, let's go to the bookstore for stories to read” he smiles, reading it aloud only to pick up another one.

“Daddy, let's make some artwork for the walls in my favourite colour” he reads laughing and putting it back down.

“It’s perfect,” he admits. “I love you” he smiles, giving you a big hug. “Thank you for this”

“No problem, I had fun and I hope she loves it”

“She will, I can’t thank you enough, honestly. I’m shocked” he admits.

“It was kind of fun.” You smile and he leans down cupping your face before giving you a kiss. 

“Emmy’s  coming to visit me in a week with my mom. How do you feel about meeting her?” He asks.

“I don’t know, I think you should talk to the psychologist. I don’t want it to negatively impact your case.” You swallow.

“If you’re not ready you can tell me and I won’t hold it against you? I just want the important ladies in my life to know each other” he says cute as a button.

“It’s Just all new to me, it feels like we’re pretty serious”

“We are” he asserts and you look up at him through your lashes. He tucks your hair behind your ear. 

“I just want to follow your lead cause I trust you that much”

“But there’s pressure” he swallows. 

“I don’t want you to think that I don’t want kids or to meet yours but I understand the situation is complicated and I never want to negatively impact it. So maybe it’s brief, no PDA if we're even capable of that and we do something informal like a movie?” 

“How will I introduce you?” He asks.

“To who?”

“My daughter, my mom already knows” he admits heading into his room with you in tow.

“Aww” you tease and you hear the water running.

“Bath today, massage tomorrow, I know the decorating and moving wasn’t easy” he says coming back and you smile. It's new to be prioritised and cared for with such diligent attention.

“I love being with you” you smile pulling him to you so you’re at each other's eye level.

“You don’t have to say it ba-“

“I love you” you cut him off with a playful smile and he searches your eyes before smiling. He’s damn near blushing. “I’m not kidding” you assert and scoops you up.

“Now how am I supposed to behave myself after that?” He asks and you peck his lips a few times before pouring some bubble bath into the tub. Everything about his place is a dream. The suds start and he gets behind you putting your hair up. When he's finished he trails a few kisses down the back of your neck and to your shoulder. Goosebumps flush over your flesh. His hands reach under your shirt pulling at the hem. He takes it off of you. You count your lucky stars for the fresh wax. He helps you out of the rest of your clothes and your confidence stops your nerves as you get in he draws in absolute admiration. It makes you blush.

“I’m not watching you undress” you comment already in way over your head, confidence waning.

“Fair enough” he comments as you avert your eyes until he’s in. You’re naked together in the same tub and he comes over sitting beside you. You lean your head on his shoulder to avoid eye contact and he chuckles holding your hand under the water as he kisses your forehead.

“You're beautiful” he adds with an arm around me pulling me in so we’re skin to skin.

“And very close to running out of this tub” your inner thoughts come aloud making him laugh.

“You don't have to run from me” he promises, bringing your lips to his with his index finger under your chin. The kiss quells your nerves, igniting something else in you. The quiet is calming and compared to other men, he has the patience and restraint of a saint.

“I’m really happy you're back” You admit.

“Babe, shh. I’m trying my best to restrain myself from the instinct that comes from being beside my naked woman.” he says with his eyes closed and you blush at his man power. Shifting you move to the other side of the tub so you're across from each other and not beside.

“Better?” you ask thankful for the bubbles covering your chest.

“Barely” he says with a dimpled smile. “What have you done? That you feel comfortable doing?” he asks, giving you all the power.

You pretend to be in deep thought with a finger to your temple before smiling.

“I’m an angel, nothing” You smile.

“No toys, second base, third base? Nothing?” he probes in disbelief.

“You smile, no toys, a handjob one time but I dont know i’m picky about who touches me” you shrug.

“So you're a tease?” he asks but he’s spot on. You like getting guys all riled up and leaving them high and dry because the douches of the corporate world need to be humbled somethies. With their disgusting entitlement.

“Not with you” you promise and scoots closer, you allow him to touch you. It feels incredible, he's the kind of man dedicated to his woman's pleasure and you lose track of times coming in waves from his fingers before the night ends.

“So, you’re never home, anymore” your bestie comments as you fluff your curls out.

“You know I’m busy and when I’m not I’m here talking with you” you laugh.

“And your swear that’s it? Are you still dating Gabriel?”

“Ummm hmm?”

“Seeing him tonight?” She pries.

“No not night brunch” you correct.

“Date number?”

“I don’t know?”

“Dang! So many you’ve lost count? How many times a week to you see him”

“Three” you admit and she screams. Your cheeks burn with a serious blush. These are the things you like to keep to the chest.

“So you like him”

“I don’t know…” Thats a lie you think to yourself "Yes” you admit. “But he has to be too good to be true” you groan closing your eyes.

“Have you had sex yet?”

“No”

“Maybe he’s small” she jests but that isn’t funny.

“Maybe, something to keep me grounded. It’s an icky but addictive feeling” you admit. “I feel like I’m losing brain cells cause all I want to do is be a giddy fool” you swallow and she laughs.

“Don’t overthink it, you deserve to be happy. Just enjoy your Prince Charming while it lasts”.

“Good advice” you agree finishing your eyeshadow and spraying your perfume. You’re out of the house and G is sitting outside on the hood of his car like a GQ model.

“Hey handsome” you smile  and he pulls you to him pecking your lips.

“Hey babe” he smiles letting you go and opening the door. The sun is bright and you cover your face.

“I forgot my shades” he takes his off instantly.

“You’re driving, I’ll be fine” you smile kissing his cheek and you end up at the brunch place. The food is amazing and G is attentive as always. He smiles as the waitress flirts with him amusing you.

“You have the whole staff a giggly teenage mess” you smile having another piece of fruit.

“We’re you like that?”

“I’ve always had pretty good self control. But I had my time to embarrass myself on behalf of a good time” you smile.

“You don’t have a jealous bone in your body do you?” He asks and it’s relief on his face.

“Us wanting to spend time with each other is our choice if that changes it changes I’m not good at coercion”

“Yeah right, you have the soft power” he says dropping twice the amount of breakfast on the table in cash. “Come on” he says and you end up in Saks. The sunglasses section he buys you everything you want without flinching at the completely indecent price tag.

“Why are you trying to butter me up?” You ask suspiciously sitting on his lap at the park where you spend time together on nice days.

“I’m going away for a week, so I’m trying to make up for lost time”

“Court for the kid?” You ask getting comfortable and he holds your hips adjusting your position with his big hands.

“Yeah, her mom wants to take her globetrotting” He’s annoyed. “Just to spite me, she knows work is busy so she’s testing what I care about more” he vents.

“Nothing to worry about. You don’t seem like you’re easy to pull the run around on” you smile.

“But, Izzy… social services said she needed a shrink and if you heard what the shrink says. Apparently she’s sad, she has emotional delays, trust issues. Babe, she’s only four” his words resonate and you rub his back before giving him a hug.

“Everything will be fine” you assure and he nods.

“Here’s my keys while I’m gone and some cash in case you need anything” he says reaching into his pockets.

“I don’t need your money”

“Take it, please” he urges.

“Fine” you put it in your purse and he smothers you in kisses.

“We’re official now, right?” He asks.

“What do you mean”

“Exclusive, you’re only seeing me. I’ve always only been seeing you.”

“I guess so” you shrug.

“I’ve been telling people I’m not single anymore” he admits.

“Interesting” you tease making him laugh.

“I’m not a coward or a cheater. You don’t have to worry. It’s getting hot out let’s go to your place” you stand and he follows taking your hand.

“I’m not a cheater or a coward either” he asserts. The ride home is full of casual conversation. And he has his fridge stocked with your fav wine when you arrive pouring you a glass before the two of you sit on the couch.

“I have a question” he says a little nervous.

“Go” you shrug putting the glass down. He swallows putting your legs across his.

“Are you a virgin or celibate and waiting for marriage?” He asks.

“How do you get there”

“Well, I know you’re attracted to me. But you don’t react like women have previously when I touch them or kiss them. I’m not comparing what I’ve done. Shit this is coming out all wrong. I guess you have a lot of self control and I was thinking it’s because you’ve never had sex” he swallows making you laugh.

“And if Im celibate is that a problem?” His face says how he feels about it instantly. Stressed.

“I need sex, I just do” he shrugs. “I’m not pressuring you I have my hand and respect your wishes. I’d rather it be with you than looking at a screen and jacking off but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do” he shrugs making you laugh.

“I’m not abstinent but I am a virgin” you admit and he looks stunned. “It’s really not tat deep. I’ve always just been focused on other things. I’d rather it not be terrible and with someone who can at least make it pleasurable, and take care of me. Everyone our age plays games and I take relationships more seriously” you shrug. He smiles.

“So you’ve just been breaking balls huh” he asks looking at the ceiling and chuckling a bit. Like he’s hit the jackpot. “I hope you know I can take care of you”.

“Are you experienced in that field?” You ask feeling oddly comfortable for the first time

“I’ve never slept with a virgin, having dated mostly older women” he explains. “But I’m a quick learner and you have nothing to worry about. Once it happens you’ll be all in and in love with me” he smiles.

“Don’t ruin your chances with that” you tease getting comfortable as he cuts on a movie.

“It’s a warning, I guarantee it” he asserts.

“Then I gotta be careful” you smile and he pulls your in closer. There’s no shortage of fireworks when he kisses you soft and then harder. But you can feel his heart beating just as fast. He pulls you in in closer kissing down your neck. His hands drift up your sides.

“Now I’m terrified” you pull away breathlessly.

“Just be ready when I get back, I’ll take care of you”

“Thanks for the presents today” you smile pecking his lips more harmlessly.

“A way to show you how I feel” he smiles kissing your cheek. “Stay the night, drive me to the airport in the morning”

“I don’t have nightclothes, my toiletries nothing”  you remind.

“Take the keys get what you need and come back. I’ll keep my hands to myself, promise” he crosses his heart.

“Drop me home I like my car better” you smile.

“What’s wrong with mine?” He asks.

“It’s you but it’s not me” you comment as he stands behind you already ready to go.

“Why don’t we just go get you some things you need then pick up your car so you don’t need to remember to bring things back and forth”

“You’re strange” you comment as he heads to the mall.

“I know what I want” he reminds.

He walks into the lingerie and sleepwear shop cool as a cucumber.

“What size?” He asks looking at an underwear display.

“XL” you comment looking for soaps and lotions. He rings everything up paying and holding your bag as you shop around getting necessities.

“You’re buying so much stuff, I’m Not Moving in”

“Well start with weekends” he ignores making

You laugh.

“I didn’t agree to any of that, just to tonight” you remind.

“One Step At a time” he reasons kissing your hand. His eyes are taken with a lingerie display in a boutique window.

“It’s been over three months of dating. I figure unless I make a move I’ll be waiting forever”

Pairing: Gabriel Maddox (Rome Flynn) x Reader

Summary: Rome has been giving you butterflies since before day A.

It’s childish but you can’t help yourself. A little embarrassing too if you’re telling the truth.

You swallow standing and heading to order instead of staying at your usual vantage point. It’s been a month since your discovery or Mr. Gorgeous. Its not emasculating either its the only adjective suitable for a man too fine to be working anywhere but GQ and in an upscale food court. Its been five minutes of waiting just to have your ever graced with his presence when you decided to hurry and stand in line to you can be back before your work meeting.

“Hi, can I please get the mango green tea with aloe vera?” You ask the waiter when you get to the front go the line. As they tell you the cost you click the tip amount but an arm reaches around you tapping their phone against the machine and paying.

“Can I uhh … let me just get what she’s having” the voice says and the cash person smiles.

“Thank you” you comment turning slightly only for it to be a big fucking mistake.

It’s him.

You nearly trip over your own fear so befuddled as you shift down to wait for your food beyond embarrassed at your lack of poise. Being polished and put together has always been your thing.

Y/N never was a fool for men and I won’t start embarrassing myself now

You swallow getting calm from the lord up above, enough to collect your composure and look in his direction without being glamoured.

“No problem missed you the last two weeks but you’re tan now, so how was the vacation?” He asks casually like you’ve known each other for some time now and are the best of friends despite this being your first encounter.

“Excuse me?” You sputter taken a back.

“You’re always by the waterfall, sitting with your friends or coworkers. I feel like you’ve noticed me.” He smiles hands in his pockets. He’s definitely no good. He’s too good, he’s known all this time.

“Don’t make me that guy” he asks too handsome for his own good. He wants an admission. But your deadpan allows for little give.

“The vacation was necessary” you counter retrieving your drink and he smiles doing the same.

“Where to?”

“Morocco” you respond honestly. His eyes smile as he nods taking a sip of the drink. He’s sin personified. Your heart is still beating like you’re doing cardio.

Your phone rings reminding you of your meeting in fifteen minutes.

“Thanks for the drink” you hold it up walking away.

“Didn’t get your name”

“YN”

“Nice to meet you YN, I’m Gabriel” he smiles with an outreached hand.

“Likewise” you nod afraid to touch him, while you’re such a bag of nerves.

“Your office in here?” He asks walking at your side and drawing as much attention as someone as fine as him should.

“Across the street” you mutter.

“Let me walk you to your building” he offers.

“I think I’ll be fine”

“I don’t doubt it” he smiles showing off his perfect pearly whites. You swallow your blush continuing your walk. His suit is perfectly tailored, he’s not dressed like the rest of the pricks working who think they’re gods gift to women because of their average looks and cushy salaries courtesy of the patriarchy.

“Do you work around here?” You ask and he sighs.

“Here goes the cool thing I had going for me” he smiles. “I work about twenty minutes away. Did a consulting job here, then did lunch with friends and kept finding excuses to come back” he says telling you you’re the reason I’m not so many words.

Fuck, he’s good

“Yeah, foods pretty good” you agree giving you both a moment to exhale the nervous energy and he chuckles allowing you to do the same.

“Well I’m in court all day for the next week. So maybe I can get your number and we can do dinner Friday night?” He asks.

“I already have plans for the weekend” you lie and he smiles.

“Next week then?” He steps closes and he even smells like temptation.

“Hause for seven, next Wednesday?”

“You’re gonna make me wait ten days to see you again”

“Goodbye Gabriel” you smile heading into the revolving doors before he can realize he doesn’t have your number.

Author’s Note: For everyone who missed Rome here is is. Guess what else? The following chapter is written and ready to go.

It had only been five days since your date with Gabriel and it took everything in you to keep calm and not grin and giggle like a school girl every time he called or texted you. Which was consistently, every morning, during his lunch break and after his evening workout. He seemed to be the whole package, smart, funny, kind, considerate and fine as hell. Attentive too but in a comfortable not a creepy way. Its been a wild ride, a really good way considering how the two of you met.

It’s only date number two and somehow Gabriel is amazing at making you feel like you’re his woman. He sits attentive to the instructor replicating the painting with ease and accuracy. His painting blows yours out the water and you smile at his talent.

“So you paint?” You comment once the activity is finished and his is clearly exceptional.

“Nope, just a quick learner” he says as you walk around the museum to pass the time of the canvasses being made to dry. He holds your hand following closely behind every turn.

“You’re the only woman who hasn’t asked about her” he says as you sit.

“About who?” You ask.

“My daughter, my daughters mother”

“Why should I? You’ll tell me what you want me to know either way” you swallow wanting to forget about the blip in his perfect record.

“So, you don’t care?” He asks

“Why should I?” You ask. “I told you where I stand”

“You didn’t say much” he comments.

“We’re just dating Gabriel” you laugh casually even though it understates your feelings.

“So hypothetically if we were serious what would you want to know” he asks applying pressure and causing you to shrug.

“I don’t know I haven’t thought about it...” you admit. “What would you want, you’re more privy to everything”

“Here I am planning for the future and you’re unbothered” he smiles.

“Your daughter is an eight hour drive away remember? You see her as much as you can. You’re not with you’re child’s mother. As long as you take care of your kid I don’t care”

“What about if you’re staying over and so is Izzy?” He asks

“You’d do that?” You ask looking him over.

“You seem skeptical”

“If she’s coming to see you it’s to spend time with you not me. It sounds bitchy but if I was a mom I’d want my kid to spend time with their dad one on one - not with some woman” maybe its trivial or immature but its honest.

“Some woman” G smiles a little amused.

“Me or your kid? I’m not that special” you shrug. “I don’t do drama” you clarify.

“I’m asking because if everything goes well, I’ll be having her more often”

“Excited?” You smile and he nods.

“I am, actually was wondering if I could have your help I’m out of my depth in decorating her room”

“What does she like?”

“To be around me, she’s not big on anything?”

“Really?” It’s hard to believe but he smiles

“I know, she just wants to be near me”

“For now” you tease.

“Her mom is an unfit parent. But so am I based on how much time I spend at work. I’m just putting it all on the line to be upfront” he looks at you for a moment before turning his attention back to the art to let you digest the information.

“Unfit parent how? Why would you have a kid with someone who’s unfit?” You ask not getting that vibe from him.

“Long story short she tried to keep me and lied. It didn’t work and now she can finally hurt me” he explains.

“I think we should be just friends you have a lot on your plate” you swallow as much as it pains you. He laughs with his perfect smile amused by your trepidation.

“Just like that huh?” You ask

“I can help you decorate if we’re friends. Otherwise I don’t want to be involved”

“Fair” he smirks hearing your conditions.

“Take it or leave it” you come up for air putting the necessary safeguards in place.

“I’m a lawyer you know that right?” He reminds mischievously like he has no intention of falling back.

“Aren’t their ethics to that, respecting my will?”

“Persuading you otherwise...” he trails getting closer and smelling so good it’s a sin.

“You’ll be fine, kids are chick magnets. Not that you need help in that arena already”

“I’m fine from where I am now, I was just letting you know that all of this isn’t as perfect as it looks” he motions for his fine self.

“All of this is” you motion to him and he laughs.

“Of course” he nods in good humour.

“How old are you?”

“30, you if I’m allowed to ask?” he inquires.

“25” He looks surprised. “What?” You shake your head and he shrugs.

“I’ve never dated someone younger than me”

“We’re just friends remember” you remind turning to head back to collect your artwork but you’re stopped by a sight. There’s a single table that’s candle lit with paintings all around and a projector showing scenes from your favourite landscapes on the wall. He pulls out your chair.

He’s smooth as hell.

“Gabriel” you comment shell shocked as he places a hand on the small of your back.

“You hungry?” He asks and you could strangle him for making you want to smile from ear to ear.

“Coercion” you comment laughing a little.

“I know what I want and I’m just trying to keep you interested”

“As long as you keep outdoing yourself” you swallow.

“Light work” he smiles. “As long as we’re not friends” he states his conditions

“This is off to a terrible start” you laugh too aware of his charm and how he makes you feel. No wonder a woman tried to trap him.

PAIRING: ROME FLYNN X READER

SUMMARY: Rome has been giving you butterflies since before day A.

It’s a pretty risky thing to do. Going on a date ten days after meeting a guy, to a five star restaurant without having your dates confirmation, phone number or last name.

The doorman gets the door and you smile entering with a manufactured air of confidence until you see Gabriel. Relief washes over the both of you and he smiles, the butterflies resume all over again.

“I thought you might stand me up” he comments.

“Yeah right” you smile and he looks you over clearly impressed - admiring your best features in appreciation.

“You look, incredible” he sighs.

“Hold it together” you tease and he takes your hand so the waiter can seat you. Somehow he looks better now in the restaurant lighting then in his business model off the runway look from in the week.

“How are you single?” He asks after the waiter has brought out your drinks. There are a thousand reasons.

“Single?” You ask with confusion. “Is this a date, date?” You ask looking around and he smiles.

“Don’t play with me like that” he warns with something dominant and alluring behind his eyes.

“You said dinner” you shrug. “You could be new to town, want to make friends, have a good meal - I don’t assume”

“Well next time I’ll officially ask and state it’s a date explicitly to avoid confusion. You get all dressed up and go to five star restaurants with your friends?” He asks.

“My friends and I go whatever we want” you smile.

“What about you?” You’ve done enough deflecting.

“Well my company moved me here. So here I am, change of pace, much slower” he comments.

“Plan on sticking around?”

“Maybe” he shrugs. “If I can find the right reasons” he flirts making the both of you laugh. “I’ve been looking forward to this all week thank you for showing up” he swallows. Its a first. The outing is only beginning, its not the end of the night after wine and laughs and the prospect of scoring is slipping away, when he leans in just a little too close tilting his head down to tell you you’re appreciated to seal the seal.

You’re parched instantly and he smiles proud of himself as you sip your drink.

“You’re welcome”

“You don’t have to hide your blushes” he laughs. “I like them, thats why I keep trying you” he lets up being more casual and looking away to give you a second to breathe.

“Number one con, about moving here?” You ask changing the subject.

He turns to face you and his eyes get serious. “I’m a five hour drive from my daughter”

Red flag number one. But a point for honesty.

“How old is she?”

“Five” he smiles.

“Daddy’s girl?” You ask and he nods.

“A thousand percent. So I’m back and forth from the airport as much as I can be.” He explains.

“You’re a little young to be divorced” you pry.

“You should try law with your leading questions and deflection” he calls you out but you can’t deny you appreciate his intelligence.

“Touché” you surrender before having a sip of your wine.

“I wasn’t married” he answers with good eye contact, either he’s honest or his practice has made him a good liar.

“I’ve never been married either” you smile giving a little, lightening the mood.

“Does my daughter ruin my chances?” He asks more direct than most.

“That’s a pretty loaded question? Can you be more specific please?” You ask sweetly not wanting to think of it and to enjoy the rest of the night.

“Do you date men with children?” He’s upfront and frank.

No, not typically.

“I can date a man who is responsible and takes care of his responsibilities. If I feel like my needs infringe on him doing that I’ll gladly remove myself. Kids need their dads more than I do” you comment and he nods. He lets your words resonate before resuming the eye contact.

“Needs like” he sips his wine making you wish you could just dial back his allure.

“We’re not there yet” you look into your plate and away from him.

“Well my job keeps me pretty busy and with travelling that affects my free time as well” his communication is excellent.

“That’s right you’re a lawyer and by the looks of that watch and suit you don’t defend the innocent” you comment and he smiles just cute as a button.

“You don’t miss anything do you?” He asks amused and for once it feels like a man appreciates your intelligence and isn’t threatened by it. “Well, they should pay in some way shouldn’t they?” He asks and its comfortable conversation.

“It’s not for me to decide, not my line of work” you shrug as your orders are served.

“Is it what you want, how you like it?” He asks before looking at his own meal. It’s the finest gesture.

“Yes thank you” you respond to the very big dick energy. No wonder he got someone pregnant. At this rate its a miracle his child count is at one.

Conversation flows the rest of the night and after a two hour dinner you’re ready to go.

“Do you need a ride home?” He asks as the waiter brings the bill.

Oddly enough, you trust him after an hour and a half, “Yes, and just a ride home”

“I got it” he laughs paying without studying the price tag and making the waiter smile and wish us the very best.

“You made his day” you laugh as he gets the door - his colognes perfect. Its a miracle you aren’t swooning.

“I’m just showing off” Gabriel shrugs taking your hand and handing the valet his ticket. You roll your eyes to yourself seeing a car you haven’t seen on the roads around here. He opens the door for you before walking around. You’ve never been in a car like this before.

“Where to?” He asks and you set the GPS aware of how he’s admiring your cleavage as you reach forward.

“I know exactly why you’re single” he scoffs shaking his head. “All trouble, too much to handle” he comments as you sit back. “What’s that perfume you’re wearing?” He asks.

“It’s by Killian”

“Well I’d like you to wear it on our second date and while you’re at numbers - put yours in my phone” he says handing you his device you oblige without protest calling yourself to prove it and when you hang out he locks his phone. Before putting it down.

“Where are you taking me?” You ask.

“I get to choose?”

“I chose this time so you can choose the next” you shrug.

“Something a little more casual” he suggests.

“I don’t like running around”

“Yeah right” he mutters looking you over in appreciation of all the time you’re figure.

“It’s not my idea of a date” you swallow not wanting to be sweaty and winded around him from exercise - or for him to draw conclusions of you being unhealthy because you were bigger than average.

“No running around, I promise” He smiles reading you like a book.

“Good choice” you tease making the both of you laugh and your heart flutter for the hundredth time.

He cuts on the radio and its a nice change of pace as the two of you move through the flashing lights and darkness in comfortable silence.

“Can I see you again this week, for lunch before our date?” He asks. Everything about him is different. His consideration for you, his confidence and his demeanour. For whatever reason despite your heart racing you’re not feeling inclined to run.

Sitting back with your head against the headrest you look at the traffic ahead slowing to a bottleneck.

“Yes”
