"so how did you two meet?" his mom asks sweetly from across the dinner table. you hesistate for a moment, just a split second, and look at gabe, silently begging him to take the lead on this one. "we met on a night out," he answers casually, swallowing his bite of food.

his parents nod, a questioning look in their eyes as they exchange glances. "we met at the common, when the guys and i went to eat on newbury that time," he clarifies, and you can see the relief wash over their faces. "oh yes, i do remember that," she says, smiling again at you. you reciprocate her gesture, but know deep down that gabe is lying through his teeth.

you met at a bar in downtown boston, before sneaking away to the commons for some alone time. then, before telling anyone, the two of you were back his dorm in the middle of a heated makeout session. what started off as a casual hookup, turned into a full blown relationship without either of you realizing it. with gabe, everything was always in the moment. sometimes you were an item, other times you were just friends. you never really thought about it too much, just opting to be present in your short time with him.

"well i'm glad you two are together, you seem like the perfect pair," she says, turning back to the meal in front of her. you smile at that, and gabe gives your thigh a small squeeze, as if showing his agreement.

“You have a little something on your nose there,” he chuckled, dotting your nose with his vanilla frosting-covered spatula.

A couple days ago, you had suggested that you two bake cupcakes together to bring to his house for the holidays. It was going to be your first time meeting his family and you couldn’t be more nervous. You had to make a good impression; you didn’t know what you would do if you weren’t with Gabe. Actually, you’d probably still be doing well given the fact that your success doesn’t depend on a man, but still—he meant a lot to you.

You gasped, swiping your now cold and currently wet nose with your index finger, inspecting the damage and also taking a light lick of the delicious mixture. “You’re dead, Perreault.”

He raised his brow, a smirk playing on the boy’s lips. “Yeah?”

He had a couple inches on you, or more so a whole foot, but that never deterred your ambitious spirit. He had always laughed at you when you stood on your tippy toes, trying to catch his lips in a kiss or whenever you jumped into his arms whenever he came home from a roadie. And while yes, you were a bit on the smaller side, you always had one thing that he couldn’t resist.

“Mhm,” you smiled up at him, your toes rising as you wrapped your arms around his neck, while his head tilted down to look at his beautiful girl. He always reminded you how beautiful you were, but you never believed him. He would spend his whole life telling you, hoping that one day you would feel it too. His hands hugged your torso. “I can’t wait to meet your family,” you said softly, the sound of the oven baking the last batch of cupcakes long gone as you gazed into his moss-green eyes. 

His shit-eating smirk softened to a small twinkle, his expression so in love you could practically see hearts in his eyes. “They’re gonna love you so much I’m probably gonna have to rip my sister away from you.”

“Well, based on how much you told me about Lil, you’re gonna have to rip me away from her. Honestly, I might start liking her more than you.”

He huffed out a laugh, leaving a light kiss on your forehead. “Guess I have competition now, huh?”

You hummed in response, falling down onto your heels and resting your head on his chest. His heart beated softly, instilling a sense of calm in your anxious mind. His chin rested atop your head as you sighed, peaceful and still. You would be okay, you told yourself. As long as you have Gabe, you will be okay.

“I love you,” he whispered. “Thank you for doing this; you didn’t have to.”

“Gotta make ‘em like me, right?” you chuckled.

“They’ll like you no matter what. It’s hard not to love you.”

You grinned up at him. “Well, luckily for you, you’ll never have to know what it’s like not to.” Your words were like kisses on skin. Gabe had never been in love before you came into his life. He was so sure that he was going to end up alone; his hockey life being too much for any girl, but when you sat next to him in class, your bouncy ponytail swinging with every swish of your head and the way you raised your hand on the hardest of questions, the smartest person in class, he knew that that was it. He was done for.

“But,” you squinted your eyes.

His brow raised.

“You might hate me after this one,” you smirked, taking a handful of frosting from the bowl behind you and lathering it all over his face. Covered in a white sheet of frosting, Gabe held your cheeks, kissing every single inch of your face, consequently getting the frosting all over your face as you protested, pushing against his chest as you laughed loudly.

“GABE!” you screamed, laughing as his kisses tickled your cheeks and the frosting slid onto your eyelids. 

Pulling away, Gabe gazed at his masterpiece, an evil grin planted on his lips. “I think we’re gonna have to make more frosting.”

You scoffed, grabbing a towel from the counter and swiping it across your eyes, getting a good look at the devil you call your boyfriend. “You think?”

"for fucks sake." ryan mumbled under his breath as he looked up from his book, only to be met with his friends sitting at the table of in front of yours.

"what's wrong, love?"

"they're here again. they're not even trying to be secretive anymore!" he scoffed as your eyes stayed glued to your work. you had a very important coming up, and you needed a good grade.

"just ignore them, babes. they're kids, let them be." you answered, leaning your head down on his shoulder as his eyes met with will's, who had wide smirk on his face.

"oh my god, what are you guys doing here?" gabe asked as they all got up and walked over to sit at your table. ryan let out a loud groan considering you were in a library as his friends made themselves comfortable.

"get out of here!" he spat at his teammates, making you chuckle a bit, but staying focused on your work.

"are we not allowed to study?" will asked, his smirk still present as ryan sent him a death glare.

"where're your books?"

"in my bag."

"take them out and study then. at another table." he said harshly, making all his friends laugh a bit.

"what if we want to sit at this table?" jacob asked, ryan rolling his eyes. your boyfriend looked over at you, begging you to tell the guys to leave, but you were too focused on your book to realize the look he was sending you.

"it's a library, be quiet." ryan warned the guys before looking back down at his work. your head was still leaning on his shoulder, making gabe snap a pic of the two of you. of course, the boy hadn't realized his flash was still on, making it blankly obvious what he was up to.

"get out!"

"what, why?"

"you're not here to study, you're here to bother us. so leave!"

"it was an accident!"

"can you guys go bicker somewhere else? i'm trying to study." you whispered harshly, making all the boys go quiet as they stared at you. you had finally looked up from your book, now sending ryan's friends a death glare that matched your boyfriend's. "all of you." you added, turning your head to look at ryan.

"me?" he gasped, his jaw dropping slightly.

"yes, you. you're the reason these ding dongs keep bothering me, so get out." you sassed, making ryan roll his eyes slightly before he started packing his bag.

"you guys are such assholes." your boyfriend mumbled as he got up from his seat, pressing a kiss to your forehead before making his way out. his friends followed closely, rambling about something that clearly wasn't making ryan happy.

summary: gabe just really needs a hug from his girlfriend.

Gabe knew she was giving his worried glances as she drove them back to her apartment.

He just had an appointment with the team doctor to check his injury and if it’s healed so he can play. He wants to play in the upcoming game as it is so important for Boston College and it could be the last game of the season and one of his last chances to play with Ryan and Will.

He did not get cleared to play the game and has been incredibly silent since the doctor told him.

He’s just rested his head on the window looking out the car window as she drove them back to her apartment, he was not ready to talk about it and fortunately his girlfriend understands that and is fine to give him some silence and space to process his thoughts.

Gabe flinched and shook his head not realizing she had called his name and gently shook his arm, He gave her a apologetic smile and she shook her head dismissing his apology as she felt there was nothing to apologize for.

“Wanna go inside?” She quietly asked him, gently grabbing his hand and squeezing softly. Gabe slowly nodded and she let go of his hand as they both got out of the car.

Gabe grabbed her hand gripping tightly as they walked through her apartment building and up to her apartment, she unlocked the front door and walked inside with her boyfriend.

They both slid off their shoes and put them on the shoe rack by the front door.

She gently pulled him through her apartment and stopped once they reached the kitchen. She turned to him her eyes looking at him worriedly, “Are you okay?”

Gabe opened his mouth to answer but nothing came out and he shook his head as his eyes filled with tears.

Her face softened completely and she opened up her arms for him and Gabe took a step forward and easily melted into her wrapping his arms around her tightly and hiding his face in her neck. Gabe just really needed a hug from her.

Her arms wrapped around him and her hands held his face to her shoulder knowing that comforts him.

She felt her shoulder getting damp with his tears and felt his shoulders shaking from his cries.

She just held him and let him cry out his emotions and be comforted.

She gently rubbed his head playing with his soft curls as she felt his cries slowly calm down.

Gabe took a deep breath and lifted his head off her shoulder, he felt better after he cried in her arms, “Thank you.” Gabe mumbled softly looking at her with appreciation. She’s never once judged him for showing his emotions and always comforts him when he needs it.

“You never have to thank me for this.” She sternly told him, all she was doing was comforting the man she is in love.

Gabe just fondly smiled not at all suprised by her response.

“Do you want to talk about it?” She offered softly knowing sometimes he likes to talk about the things bothering him but sometimes he’s not ready to talk about it yet.

“Not today.” Gabe answered her. She just nodded not pressing or prying and accepted he did not want to talk about it yet.

“Go get changed and i’ll make you some hot chocolate.” She gently nudged Gabe to her bedroom, as she is already in comfortable clothes but Gabe still has a pair of Jeans on.

Gabe nodded and pressed a soft kiss to her cheek beside walking away and heading to her bedroom to change into a pair of sweatpants and sweatshirt.

She pulled out the two mugs they use when they have hot chocolate together and started making the hot chocolate.

She poured some in each mug and grabbed the mini marshmallows making sure to add extra on Gabe’s.

Gabe walked out of her bedroom back to the kitchen looking a lot more comfortable and relaxed.

Gabe walked to his girlfriend and she handed him a mug and picked her’s up as they walked to her couch and sat down next to each other and she grabbed her favorite knitted blanket and covered both of them.

Gabe threw his arm over his girls shoulder and pulled her as close and possible as they enjoyed their hot chocolate together.

“I love you.” Gabe quietly mumbled against the top of her head as he pressed a kiss to her hair, he was grateful for everything she does for him.

“I love you too.” She mumbled back to him as she contently sipped on her hot chocolate.

you laid on your bed, scrolling through tiktok on your phone, the soft mumbled sounds disrupting the silence the two of you mostly sat in. your hand was tangled in will’s hair as you continued to watch videos, occasionally tugging so he would look up from where his head was lying on your chest and watch the video too.

“when’s gabe gonna be back?” he whined.

“i don’t know, baby. you wanna call him?”

he noddd and reached towards the other side of the bed to grab his phone, clicking gabe’s contact, “hello?”

“gabe! where’s my ice cream?”

you chuckled, pausing your hand so you could look down at him. he pouted as he locked eyes with you, pushing his head into your hand so you would resume your motions.

you shighed and continued, listening to the conversation that was happening, "i just got out of the store. calm your ass."

"i just want my ice cream."

"yeah yeah, i'll be back in 10, love you."

you both let an 'i love you' before he hung up and going back to watching tiktoks on your phone.

just as he said, gabe walked back through the door 10 minutes later with two bags in hand. he placed them both down on your bed, jumping so he could lay down on the other side of you, "here you big baby."

will glared at him as he huffed, digging around in the bag for his ice cream. once he got ahold of it, he cheered before frowning, "i need a spoon."

you rolled your eyes and climbed over your boyfriend to grab a spoon from the bag you had, handing one to your other boyfriend. as you went to get back into your bed, gabe pouted, "can you get me one too?"

you grumbled and grabbed one, handing it to him and then getting back on the bed. gabe and will grinned, cuddling into you and eating their ice cream. you grabbed the remote and turned on your show, watching it as the three of you made little comments here and there.

Gabe and I have been dating for the past 8 months. We met when Gabe played for the NTDP last year. We had to do a project together in school so we got close. I had broken up with my abusive boyfriend about 3 months earlier so I wasn’t looking for a boyfriend, but Gabe made me change my mind.

After a month of knowing Gabe and him trying to ask me out on a date, I told him about my ex which isn’t something I like to talk about but for some reason I knew I could trust Gabe so I told him. Gabe was angry at my ex which is understandable, and he also promised me he would never hurt me and if I gave him a chance he could prove it. 

I ended up giving him a chance and it’s probably one of the best decisions I could have made, he treats me like a princess everyday. He asked me to be his girlfriend last May.

In high school we would go to some of the same places we just never saw each other, until we started working on a project together. We found out that we were both about to start our freshman year of College at Boston College.

We spent most of the time during summer that he wasn’t training together. When we got to Boston College at the end of August we saw each other as much as we could before he got too busy with hockey and me with school.

His teammates are all pretty great. Him and the rest of the Freshman all live in dorms close to each other so I've been spending a lot of time there instead of my dorm. I got pretty close to them, they're great guys, they’re always doing something stupid.

Tonight the hockey team was throwing a party after their big win, since I’m dating Gabe I always go. 

Thankfully the party was at the Seniors house. Gabe told me he would meet me at my dorm room before going to the party. I had taken my car to the arena, I went back to my dorm room so I could change before making my way to Gabe’s dorm room. I was laying on Gabe’s bed scrolling through TikTok waiting for him to get home.

At around 10:00 p.m. his bedroom door opened and Gabe walked in. I looked up from my phone and smiled at him. He dropped his bag at the end of the bed on the floor, before he made his way to me, placing a kiss on my forehead.

“Sorry it took so long, some of the guys needed a drive so Ryan went to drive them to the dorms to get change before coming back here” he said.

“No worries. What time is everyone going to start showing up?” I asked.

“Soon we can make our way there as soon as I get changed.” he said

He was looking in his closet for jeans and a tee shirt, he turned around and chuckled at me.

“What?” I looked at him confused.

“The team is already there, they have been setting up for a little bit, did you not see the text in the group chat” he said laughing. I shrugged.

“I don’t know… I was scrolling through TikTok so I didn’t see it,” I said , smiling shyly. 

Was I that focussed on Tiktok that I didn’t realize they were texting in the group chat? 

I’ve been in a group chat with Ryan, Will and Gabe since the UNTDP days. 

Once Gabe was changed he grabbed my hand.

“Come on, let's go to the party” he said smiling.

I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before I let him walk us to the party.

“This party is going to be pretty big tonight so stay by me please or if you go somewhere make sure you’re with one of the girls” he said and I nodded. 

I’ve always been scared that I might run into my ex boyfriend at Boston College parties since he also goes here, thankfully Gabe always keeps an I on me and most of the parties the guys throw they make sure he doesn’t get in, but tonight is also an open house, so anyone could show up.

We made our way to the kitchen, Gabe took a drink for himself then handed me one. I stayed with him as we talked with Drew and Will. Ryan and his girlfriend Julie made their way to us. 

I talked with Julie while the guys talked with Ryan.

Gabe had his arm around me, we stood in the kitchen next to the counter after the others left to talk to other people.

I was looking around to see if I could possibly see some of my other friends, until my eyes landed on my ex. 

I really hoped he wouldn’t be here, I hope that he knew I was dating one of the guys so wouldn’t come anywhere near me since Gabe could beat him up.

I stood still in shock with my eyes wide. Gabe noticed I wasn’t answering him so he looked at me concerned. He looked to try and find what I was looking at when I felt his body tensed. 

Gabe put his drink on the counter, took mine and did the same before taking my hand and leading me towards the stairs. 

He stopped by Cutter and Charlie before telling them something, I didn’t hear what he said. All I saw was them nodding before he dragged me out of the party and to his dorm room, thankfully it wasn’t far away, but I’m stuck in shock so I didn’t realize how fast the walk went.

He sat me down at the end of his bed before squatting down in front of me. He put both his hands on my cheeks so I could look him in the eyes.

“Hey beautiful, look at me, you have to breath” he said softly 

I took a deep breath. He nodded.

“Just like that… keep doing it”

I did it a few more times, Before I was able to calm down.

“Are you doing better?” He asked

I nodded.

“Thank you, I didn’t think I would actually see him here” I said slowly.

“You don’t have to thank me, Cutter and Charlie said they would handle it” he said and I nodded.

“Do you want to stay here and cuddle?” He asked again.

“Can we? It’s your team's party. I don't want you to have to stay here with me, when you should be celebrating with your team” I asked shyly. I didn’t want to ruin his night, just because mine was.

He shook his head before smiling at me. 

“Babe, I’d rather spend time with you,” he said leaning in and kissing my forehead. He got up and went to his closet and took out sweatpants and a hoodie along with my bag. He walked back to me and gave me the hoodie and my bag.

“Go change,” he said. I nodded and made my way to the bathroom. To do my skincare routine and change into comfy clothes. Once I slipped on my Pj shorts and Gabe's hoodie I went back to his room.

Gabe was laying under the bed covers scrolling through his phone. When he saw me, he put his phone on the nightstand before making a grabby hand at me.

“Come here,” he said. I made my own on the other side of the bed and god under the covers. Gabe pulled me to his chest holding me tight, I closed my eyes, with Gabe I always feel safe. 

He kissed my forehead.

“I love you so much, and I promise I will never let him hurt you again” he whispered.

“Thank you… for everything. I love you too” 

“You never have to thank me for anything. Now get some sleep, I’ll be here when you wake up” he said softly.

I fell asleep listening to his heartbeat.

Stella loved the thrill she felt whenever she watched hockey, especially if someone she loved was out on the rink playing. There was just something so special being present and watching the world juniors. She was there to watch her brothers and friends play the years before, and this year she was watching her boyfriend. It was a well-known thing that Stella was quite the cheerleader in the stands, even if she was surrounded by fans of the opposite team she still would cheer for her team. So, she wasn't going to let a half empty arena stop her from screaming her lungs out for her boyfriend and his team. 

As soon as she saw the puck go into the net she was up on her feet, jumping up and down as she cheered loudly for her boyfriend who just scored his first goal since his injury. Seeing the grin on his face as he celebrated with his teammates only made her cheer louder. When he scored his second goal, she nearly spilled her soda from jumping to her feet so fast, her throat was already hurting from her cheers and her cheeks hurt from all her smiling. 

But she didn't care for the soreness as she cheered her heart out along with the people around her when Rutger scored his hat trick. She had jumped to her feet and cheered loudly, a happy laugh leaving her grinning lips when she saw Rutger point at her from the ice after celebrating with his teammates. Stella giggled shyly and blew him a kiss before sitting back down. Stella was absolutely buzzing for the rest of the game, her smile not leaving her face, she was so proud of her boyfriend and his team. 

Stella just couldn't wait until after the game so she could see him. Seeing that big smile on his face and the sparkle in his eyes as he celebrated his goals made her a little emotional as she watched, especially since she knew he was being a little hard on himself for his gameplay. She stood on her feet and clapped as team USA won, and when the game was over, she waited in the stands a little, knowing that they had interviews and things to do after. But after a while she practically skipped to wait outside of the locker room, smiling politely at everyone she passed. 

She leaned against the wall and took her phone out of the back pocket of her jeans and started scrolling through her text messages, answering the ones from her parents and siblings who were sending congrats texts to Rutger. “Hey stella” she looked up from her phone when she heard her name, and a smile resurfaces on her lips. Walking up to her was a smiling Frank Nazer and a shy Gabe Perreault following after him. 

“Hey guys! Congratulations on your win” Stella greeted frank with a side hug and a sweet smile to Gabe who she hasn't talked much to. They both thanked her, and Frank couldn't help but chuckle at the few sizes too big McGroarty jersey she was wearing, it obviously was one of ruts. “Forget to pack your own jersey?” frank teases. Gabe just stood next to him awkwardly, a little shy and intimidated to be in Stella Hughes company. 

“Yeah, and rut refused to let me come not wearing his jersey” Stella laughs as she remembered the conversation they had earlier and the cute pout on her boyfriend's lips when he saw her all dressed up without a jersey on. Stella always wore his jersey to his games, Rutger loved knowing that his pretty girl had his last name on her back in the stands. Letting everyone know she is with him. 

“Well don't worry your lover boy should be out soon” Frank teases, the trio say their goodbyes and the two world juniors' players continue to walk away from the locker room. She smiled at Rutgers teammates who left the locker room, most of them saying hi to her. Of course, they knew who she was, how could they not with how much their captain talked about her. Stella scrolled through her phone for another 5 minutes before she heard her name being called by a smiling Seamus, a grinning Rutger following behind him and rushing towards her. 

Stella stops leaning against the wall and before she could congratulate her boyfriend and their friend she was pulled into a big hug and lifted off her feet. Stella giggles and wraps her arms around Rutgers shoulders and nestling her face into his neck “You did so good” she whispered between the soft kisses she placed on his neck. Rutger grins at her words and places a kiss on her temple before pulling his head back to look down at her. 

“You played so well rut, m’so proud” Stella said with her dimpled smile, bringing one of her hands from his shoulder to cup his cheek, the pad of her thumb rubbing his cheek gently as they stared into each other's eyes. Rutger didn't care that there were people around him, all he could focus on was Stella and the happiness he felt. He moved his hands from Stella's waist and brought them up to cup Stella's Rosie cheeks from the cold, and eagerly leaned down to lock her lips into a kiss. 

Stella’s usually not the one for kissing in public but she quickly followed his lead. Her head tilted to the side at how passionate he was kissing her, her other hand moving from his shoulder to his hat to turn it backwards before her hand moved to his nape and softly tugs on his wet hair from his shower. Rutger groans at the feeling and chases after her lips, while one of his hands moves from her cheek and down her back to slide into the back pocket of her jeans and squeezes her ass softly. 

“Poor will’s not gonna get any sleep tonight with you two as his neighbor” Seamus snorts as he watches the couple finally part for air. He wasn't used to seeing the couple so touchy like that in front of others, in front of him. Stella has an embarrassed smile on her red cheeks and hides her face in Rutgers chest, she couldn't believe that she basically just made out with her boyfriend in public…in front of their friend. Rutgers chest shakes with laughter, turning his head to look at Seamus with a playful grin “be a good friend and buy him some earplugs?” 

Seamus laughs and mutters a quick good luck to Stella before patting Rutger on the back and walking away from the couple. Stella lifts her head from her boyfriend's chest and smiles up at him, her eyes were filled with love as her mind replayed that moment of his scoring his hat trick and the smile on his face, she was insanely proud of him. Rutger looks away from his retreating friend and back to his girlfriend, a shy smile on his lips by the way she was staring at him

“What?” 

“I'm just so proud of you” Stella whispered sweetly, leaning up to place a few kisses along his jaw and on his flushed cheeks. Rutgers eyes close at the soft feeling of her kisses, basking in the feeling of her touch and words. He felt a weight being lifted off his shoulders, he had tried his best to stay positive, but he knew before he wasn't playing his best, but today showed him that he still had it. The win, The Hat Trick, was great, but it was even better because Stella was there with him. 

“I love you so much” Rutgers voice is filled with emotion and all he wants to do is take his girlfriend back to their hotel room so he could really show her how much he loves her. Stella smiles and places a few more kisses on his cheek before pecking his lips a few times and whispering against them “I love you most.”

“C’mon let's get out of here” Stella grinned as she grabbed onto Rutgers hand and pulled him away from the locker room. Rutger laces his fingers with hers and picks up his duffle bag from the floor and follows his girlfriend. Rutger looks at Stella's side profile, his eyes lingering on her pink lips “Where too?” 

“To the closest store” Stella tells him as they make their way to the exit of the rink, Stella sees the confused look Rutger gives her and she gives him a teasing smile as she leans closer to him and whispers in his ear with a wink. “To buy will some earplugs of course” Rutger pulls her closer to his side and eagerly pulls her out of the rink and to the cars, his other hand already trying to pull his phone out of his bag to search up directions to the nearest store.

as requested, here’s samy & the guys enjoying a fun day on the lake. this takes place a few weeks before samy + will talk during their vacation. i also didn’t know how to really end this so if it’s bad i’m sorry lol btw i'm sorry for my lack of posts, i've been super busy so i got a little behind!

"come on, moose, you don't ever back down from a challenge," ethan hollered from across the boat where mark, rutger, gavin, dylan and seamus all sat watching their friend bicker back and forth with jack.

samy snickered along with kayleigh, hannah, ryan, gabe, drew, and aram from the other side of the boat. it started with jack bragging about how he had the record for being able to stay up on the board longer than any of his siblings. luke's always been the most competitive out of the four of them, so he took jack's words to heart, arguing he stayed on way longer. of course, the middle hughes challenged his younger brother to a friendly competition.

"alright, fine. fine. you're on," luke shook jack's hand like they were making a deal. the older brother smirked, looking to quinn who was amused by the entire thing.

"okay, i'm up first then," jack dropped the board into the water before zipping up into his life jacket.

"jesus, you guys are competitive," hannah rolled her eyes slightly making samy giggle.

"just be glad i didn't decide to join in. we all know i can stay on way longer than them," the youngest hughes hummed, eyes landing on luke who heard all of it.

"don't you start with me, too," the boy warned her making samy shrug.

"what? you're just scared all of us are better than you," she stuck her tongue out making the guys laugh.

"keep talking and i'll throw you off the boat," luke's tone went flat, but samy knew he was just messing with her. he was trying to act tough as always in front of his friends because his little sister could not be better at him at wakeboarding.

"maybe we should add the rest of the siblings into this friendly fire," jack grinned, overhearing the conversation.

"hey, i'm in. you guys know i'm way better than all of you combined," the younger brunette stood, throwing her own life jacket on.

"is that so? why don't you go first then. show us how it's done if you're so much better than us," jack held his hand out to where the board was, the rope in his other hand.

"you're on," samy said before she jumped into the lake.

she came back up and climbed her way onto the board while jack handed her the tug rope. hannah and kayleigh shot their friend two thumbs up while samy gave quinn her own thumbs up indicating she was good to go.

the oldest hughes revved up the engine again and started pulling samy along. she glided across the water before quinn went fast enough to create waves. the guys cheered the girl on while jack kept the time on his phone.

she hit some of the waves in impressive jumps, letting the board take her across the water. "shit, she may be better than you guys after all," mark laughed.

"shut up," luke rolled his eyes in annoyance, but he secretly was impressed that samy hadn't fallen off yet. she never stayed on for more than minute when they were younger and now they were significantly past a minute.

the boat began rounding a corner, so samy leaned back, dipping her finger tips into the wave while the other held the rope tightly. jack checked the time again and saw that his sister was inching closer to five minutes which was a near record for her because she never lasted until then.

"looks like we got some real competition, huh?" jack nudged luke's arm, a smile spreading across his lips.

as much as luke wanted to be mad, he couldn't. he enjoyed seeing samy take on the waves that were once so hard for he. plus, seeing her as happy as them put a smile on his face because it meant she wasn't thinking about will.

after another couple of minutes, samy fell off. everyone on the clapped for the younger girl while quinn slowed the boat back down and circled back around for her. jack and luke helped her back on and held their hands out for high-fives.

"awesome run little hughesy," jack side hugged his sister.

"i guess you have been practicing," luke hummed making the girl giggle.

"i mean i have to do something while you guys aren't here," she threw her life jacket off before going to accept her high-fives from everyone else.

with jack and luke being a bit rusty, they didn't stay on as long as they did normally. jack would complain and say it was his shoulder still healing, while luke mumbled something about being away making him "lose his talent." despite it, the others enjoyed seeing the siblings bickering with one another about stupid things. it always felt like summer whenever the hughes kids got into it with one another for some friendly fire.

samy even convinced hannah to finally give it a go after her refusing to try it. she only stayed on for a minute, but the others cheered for her bravery. gabe and ryan started getting good at it after spending the last three years trying to perfect their form while the other two were too afraid to do it still.

things died down a bit after an hour. everyone spread themselves out while quinn drove them back towards the house. samy sat on the bench with her legs curled to her chest and nose in a book when gabe plopped himself down beside her. she turned to him, smiling a bit.

"hey," the brunette hummed.

"hey. reading anything good?" gabe asked, trying to catch a glance of her book.

"just this memoir. it's actually really good," she showed the boy the cover that read everything i know about love. it was something samy heard about online and wanted to give it a try considering she'd just gotten out of a relationship.

"looks good. this was a fun day," the dark-haired boy said, gaze falling across everyone on their phones or close to sleep from the long day in the sun.

"yeah, it was. i always like entertaining my brother's teasing. although, it still has felt..different. i hate that we're missing.." samy trailed off, but she didn't need to say their names for gabe to know who she was talking about.

"yeah, i get it," the hockey player frowned.

"i just hate that everything is like ruined between all of us. i mean..of course will didn't want to come. grace probably felt weird coming too," the lake house wasn't the same without the smith siblings there and everyone knew it.

"you know they would've been here if they could've. will's got his many things to do before joining the sharks and grace is searching for places and a job. you'll still see them for the family vacation," gabe found samy's gaze again.

"the family vacation is more of a forced thing. just being here..i know will's trying to busy himself as an excuse for not coming. it's probably better like this anyway because i didn't want to really see him anyway," the girl sighed a little. even if he did break her heart, she still thought he'd come to the lake house this summer.

"but you wished he was here, right?"

samy didn't respond. instead, she refocused her attention on her book leaving gabe to sit beside her in silence. the two didn't speak until they reached the dock again where samy scrambled up to help tie the boat in with her brothers. once they secured everything, she beelined to the house.

her bedroom door shut tightly, locking herself in for a moment. she dug her phone out from her pocket where she clicked around until bauer hockey's instagram page lit up her screen. for a moment, samy stared at the pictures of will on her screen and his huge smile like nothing was wrong. he looked so happy in all of them like he was having a blast and here she was with him stuck in her mind.

she probably hadn't even crossed his mind once.

samy threw her phone on her bed, a frustrated sigh leaving her lips. she shouldn't do this to herself. it was summer. she wasn't going to waste these months sulking about him when nothing mattered but being outside and getting really bad sunburns.

"samy? you in here?" ryan's voice startled the girl when he knocked. she quickly popped the door back open a crack where the taller brunette stood on the other side with a raised eyebrow.

"hey, sorry. just looking for something," she mustered her best smile.

"okay, just checking in. you kind of took off once we docked," ryan laughed a bit while samy forced her own little chuckle.

"yeah, my bad. i'll be down in a second," with that, ryan left and samy released the breath she was holding in.

she quickly changed out of her suit back into some more comfortable clothes before racing back downstairs. the others piled into the kitchen searching for something that wasn't the snacks they ate all day.

"shit, i'm starving," gavin mumbled as he stuffed leftovers into his mouth.

"you guys are disgusting," hannah rolled her eyes, tugging her brother out of the way in search of her own food.

"nice shirt," someone nudged samy's arm. gabe stood at her side again, eyeing the clothes on her body. the girl's gaze flicked down, widening a bit when her shirt read boston college hockey across the front because everyone knew who that belonged to.

"m-must've been mixed into my clothes still," she managed weakly. gabe just shrugged.

"you know it's not too late to..reach out?" his voices lowered a few tones so no one else heard.

almost immediately, samy's expression crinkled up, "no way. he's busy with the bauer combine. plus, i'm sure he's met a bunch of other girls there anyway."

gabe didn't say anything, but all he could think about as samy said that was the call him and ryan got from the blonde a few days ago while he had a panic attack in a bathroom. now if only samy knew that..

"guys, wait! you know what i just realized we haven't done yet this summer?" ethan quickly spoke up, catching everyone's attention.

his gaze turned to samy's, flashing with some sort of mischief as he began inching closer to the younger girl. "i think it's time for throwing samy into the pool!" the older boy exclaimed before running at her.

Y/N Olivia “Livvy” Hughes is not only the only girl Hughes but also the youngest Hughes

She was born a year after Luke, she’s a 2004 baby which means she’s older than Gabe by a year!

Gabe and Y/N met because Gabe was going on a Princeton tour to see if Princeton was the right fit for him (it wasn’t, at first)

When Gabe first saw Y/N, he absolutely fell head over heels. Kinda wished he picked Princeton just so he can see her pretty face everyday

Y/N’s middle name is Olivia, which is why people call her “Livvy” It’s a nickname that Quinn, Jack, and Luke have called her since they were all babies so it’s definitely very special to Y/N

Y/N is extremely smart, she was a valedictorian in high school and had high honors. Our Princeton girly.

Gabe actually made the first move and he went all the way to Princeton again just so he can ask Y/N if she wanted to come watch his hockey game (she of course said yes, how could she say no when he went all this way just to ask)

Luke is very protective over Y/N, he calls her “my livvy”

Gemma smiled fondly at her mother’s worrying and just let her mother ramble while she hugged her.

Gemma knew her parents were sad and nervous with Gemma moving out officially, it was a bit different than when she was away from home because of hockey and staying with someone or her going to collage, she is officially moving out of her home and starting a new chapter in her life.

“Mom i’ll be fine.” Gemma softly reassured her mom, she knew her mom would be worried because she was just as worried last year when Adam moved out.

“I know.” Julia agreed cupping her youngest cheek, it still shocked her everyday how fast her kids had all grown up and that Gemma is already eighteen.

“I’ll see you in a few weeks.” Gemma reminded her parents squeezing her Dad’s hand.

Gemma was already confirmed to be on the team on the upcoming season and her parents were planning to come see her first game that would be in Prague, unfortunately Adam definitely won’t be able to go and Luca most likely won’t be able to either.

Julia nodded and pressed a kiss to her only daughter’s head, “Ti Amo my Gem.” Julia softly whispered to her daughter.

“Ti Amo Mama.” Gemma sweetly whispered back and politely ignored the tears in her mom’s eye and she hugged her Dad softly.

Giuliano pressed a gentle kiss to his only daughter’s cheek. They didn’t need to share any words just a look with a smile before he let her go and wrapped an arm around his wife.

Luca frowned feeling incredibly old that his baby sister is old enough to live in her own apartment with her boyfriend all alone in a new city, “Are you going to be okay Gems?” Luca asked worriedly.

Luca has always has hated how much Gemma has been alone because of hockey because for almost his entire life he always had Adam and when he moved away from home he had Adam with him but Gemma is always on her own.

“I’m gonna be okay.” Gemma softly reassured her eldest brother, she was looking forward to start a new chapter in her life especially with Macklin. She was about to start living out the dream she has had for years she was excited not sad.

Luca slowly nodded believing Gemma’s words, “Okay.” Luca pulled her into a hug, “I’ll see you soon.” Luca promised and hugged her tighter before reluctantly letting her go and ticking her hair behind her ear and giving her one more soft smile before walking over to their parents.

“Come here.” Adam opened his arms for his baby sister and hugged her tightly, “Have fun okay. Enjoy this you have earned it.” Adam softly told her rubbing her back and he kissed the top of her head.

They pulled back from each other sharing one more smile with each other before Gemma started walking them out

She leaned on the door watching her family get in the elevator as she waved softly at them. She thought she would be more sad but if anything she’s excited to be living with Macklin.

Gemma watched the elevator doors close, Macklin came up behind her wrapping his arms around and his chin resting on her shoulder as she closed their front door.

Macklin’s family had only left a few minutes before Gemma’s family after they said their goodbyes to Macklin.

“You okay?” Macklin asked her softly kissing her cheek softly.

Gemma nodded slowly, “Yeah i’m okay.” Gemma softly reassured him as her hand rested over his hands. Leaving for Chicago a few years was a lot harder for Gemma but she is use to being away form her family most of the year now, doesn’t mean she doesn’t miss them all the time but she is used to it.

Macklin nodded accepting her answer as he knows what’s she means as Gemma started walking to their couch with Macklin still holding her from behind.

Macklin reluctantly let go of her so they go sit together in the couch and they looked out at the windows of the beautiful view of New Jersey.

Macklin wrapped an arm over her shoulder as Gemma cuddled into his side with her legs draped over his lap and he grabbed the pink throw blanket that was on the couch and threw it over them.

Macklin and Gemma were almost fully moved in already as their family were there to help them unpack and they also don’t have a lot of stuff between them yet.

Macklin thought Gemma had done really well decorating their apartment not that he expected anything else.

Gemma kept it pretty simple in decorations but there are few pink accents decorations that Macklin loves because it reminds him of her.

“We should get flowers when we get groceries later.” Gemma told Macklin as she was looking around the living room, dinning room and kitchen from where she was sitting on the couch and she saw the empty vases that she wanted pink flowers in.

“Whatever you want.” Macklin smiled softly kissing the top of her head, he had already planned to get flowers when they went out later knowing how much Gemma loves to have fresh flowers.

Gemma hummed softly back and closed her eyes letting out a soft sigh as she leaned her head on his chest, “I love you.” Gemma softly whispered to her best friend who is also her boyfriend.

“I love you too my sweet girl.” Macklin softly whispered back rubbing her back gently, “I got you a present.” Macklin grinned as he saw her head look up for her to peak at him.

“What is it?” Gemma asked curiously.

“Let me go get it.” Macklin gently sat up letting go of Gemma and walked to his room real quick and grabbed the small box out of his bag and opened it grabbing the thing in the box and walked back.

“Close your eyes.” Macklin softly told her hiding his hand behind his back. Gemma smiled and closed her eyes.

Macklin sat back down on the couch and moved her hair off her back and gently laid the necklace down on her chest shutting it close. He pressed a kiss to the back of her neck, “Open it.”

Macklin smiled watching as she looked down at the necklace and noticed the charm, a small 17, “Since it’s our number now.” Macklin told her already loving seeing her in their number.

Gemma beamed touching the necklace gently, it was perfect, small enough she could wear it all the time even for hockey, she turned towards him and pressed her lips to his, “Thank you Amore.”

“Always.” Macklin flushed a little red as he smiled at her and kissed her again.
