Here’s a little snippet from an upcoming GaaLee high school AU: Hold Your Head High, Heavy Heart

It is objectively a bad picture. In it, they’re sidelit by the last of the sun, both of them half in shadow. Lee’s hair sticks in sweaty clumps to his forehead and ears, while Gaara’s is so concealed by his hood that he looks bald and alien, all hollow eyes and bare browbone. Lee’s crooked, close-lipped smile is even more awkward on film than it is in real life. Gaara’s minute smirk can hardly even be called one. Part of Gaara’s face is off the screen entirely, and there’s a telltale, shaky-handed blur across the lot of it. 

But their faces are nearly touching. And along the bottom edge, there’s the green line of Lee’s arm thrown across his shoulder. 

Maybe he doesn’t want to share this with Kankuro. Maybe he wants to keep it to himself. Let his brother go on thinking that Lee’s a fiction, an obsession. 

With or without his brother’s validation, the proof of the reality is right here in Gaara’s hands. 

And when he lays back onto his pillow, he can still feel the weight of that arm across his shoulder, can still smell oranges on his skin, can still hear the ring of Lee’s laugh.

Hello folks! I've had this AU bouncing around my head for a little while now, then I blinked and ended up with a whole page of illustrated taxonomy notes, a bunch of lore, a first chapter and several fic illustrations, featured in this first chapter! Amazing! I'm very excited to share this AU, enjoy and please let me know what you think & spread the word/reblog so that others can enjoy my hours of hard work too <3

Sometimes plans go awry (like a bus being late on a rainy day), then sometimes aliens crash land a few feet in front of you and turn your entire life upside-down: It was the little things, the small, everyday wonders that…wait, what the— A large, round object raged a few meters above the road, silhouetted by the ambient light. For a second Lee thought that his eyes were playing tricks on him but then he stopped squinting and felt his jaw drop. It was ominously shifting with glowing energy and emanated a menacing hiss, joined by a low ‘whoomphawhoompth’ sound that was mostly drowned out by the pat-pat-pat on the roof and the howling wind. And then it opened; this brilliant flash of rich, swirling gold, hinting at pocketed depths far beyond its surface. It promptly spat something out, landing with a cut-off shout and a grunt of pain, before collapsing in on itself, and disintegrating immediately into a pool of sludge. What? “What?!”

Finally finished the concept design for Gaara in the GaaLee Alien AU I’ve been working on recently. I’ve already written up the first chap, not sure where it’s going to go yet, but I’ve got a basic outline and lots of notes written up.

Gaara’s design is based on my own species in my original stories that I’ve been working on for 10 years now. The main character of this species was loosely inspired by Gaara back when I was a teen, so this feels like homing home in a bizarre full-circle moment 🥰💖

There are more palette designs under the cut, but this is my favourite 💖

Testing some new paint stick pens I brought today with Gaara from my GaaLee Alien AU, ‘Falling Fast Through Fragmented Universes.’

Being the 'Quasar of the Largest Black Hole' is something that Gaara compares himself to while explaining his situation within the story to Lee, to give a grand scale of his abilities, and the Deep Shit he is currently in. 'Quasars: Glowing thousands of times brighter than the Milky Way, Monsters exploding and screaming into the void with a violence not thought possible before. Quasars kill galaxies.'

But, no spoilers for that! You'll just have to wait and see <3

This was so much fun, I’ve never drawn with anything with such a broad nib, it kind of feels like drawing with very soft, creamy oil pastels!

In nutshell, I’ve been fascinated by tarot for years, as another member of my family is a practicing witch of 30+ years, so I’ve grown up learning about many of these practices and rituals. I see the cards and their meanings in a lot of things and situations IRL all the time, including in books (Annihilation with the Reversed Tower/Tower/Reversed Tower anyone?), so I’m excited to incorporate these into my own works!

I have only practiced Tarot a few times for myself (all very insightful experiences) and I would love to continue more frequently. I have a couple of decks, one of them being flower-themed, which is what I have been basing the ‘Tarot & Flower’ combinations for each chapter on.

Flowers, water and light will all be reoccurring themes throughout the chapters, and I always consult the meaning behind the flowers featured on the cards before assigning them to the chapters to make sure that they work well.

The reason for the flowers is a hint at the bouquet that Lee gives Gaara which basically kickstarts their relationship, as small kindnesses like these are very rare for Gaara to come by.

The meanings behind these choices are as follows:

During the first chapter: The Tower and Venus Flytap:

The Tower of course represents unexpected, massive change and upheaval (my favourite card for sure!), and Venus Flytraps signify resilience. Definitely appropriate for both Gaara & Lee’s situation and their worlds suddenly turning upside-down upon meeting.

For chapter two, A combination of 6 of Swords (Gazania) and 5 of Wands (Pale Persicaria):

6 of Swords means gradual change away from chaotic situations, danger, and offers a solution to current problems (a long journey or pain), which Gaara has just been subjected to.

Represented by the medicinal flower Gazania (which can be used in combination with aloe), it represents richness and treasures. In the story, this is in the context of Lee’s home becoming an oasis in the middle of the chaos and violence that Gaara has been just through. The richness of love that Lee has in his connections between his friends and family, which is something Gaara only really has on the sidelines at the moment. To Gaara, at least, it is a treasure that he has such community surrounding him.

5 of Wands focuses on inner conflict and obstacles preventing growth (such as miscommunication), much like Gaara is experiencing in this completely new situation. Luckily, as stated in the first chapter’s title, Gaara has ‘found the good ones’ amoung humans, and is completely unsure how to handle that at the moment.

Pale Persicaria (aka Smartweed), is a weed that is used in medicine to stop bleeding (which also very relevant to the second chapter).

Used in combination with each other, 6 of Swords and 5 of Wands represents healing from a period of conflict and turmoil, much like Gaara is just starting to in the second chapter, with Lee & Sakura’s help.

Working on Chapter 2 of my Alien GaaLee AU, Falling Fast Through Fragmented Universes, and I decided that it’s secret name (not the actual chap title) is ‘Sakura and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Night.’

Lee & Sakura’s friendship is that of a comedy duo, I don’t make the rules.

Here’s an extract for you all, with the context that Sakura is currently talking to Gaara:

“I don’t know. I have never had painkillers here before.”

“Here as in…?”

“Earth.”

Sakura glanced at Lee with wide, accusing eyes, as if it were his fault that an alien had crash-landed in front of him and completely changed the way she viewed the world. Lee smiled sheepishly and gave her an awkward thumbs-up.

“You know what? Yeah, that checks out. Alright. Okay, we’ll try them anyway. Good thing I get migraines, I guess.” Sakura fished out a packet from her light pink dressing gown, “Lee, water.”

I had planned on doing a compilation of events chapter 2 of FFTFU but im 6k into one scene djfisksfje. To be fair it’s important! Im doing that for the next chapter anyway

Also all of the artwork will be traditionally drawn bc tablet isn’t working as it should. This means it’ll take longer to finish even though I’m nearly done writing, but it’ll be a fun read in any case!!

I kinda want to do this for a different GaaLee fic but since Falling Fast Through Fragmented Universes is the only one I’m interested in writing currently, I’m going to add Tarot card references at the beginning of each chapter and an assigned flower for them.

I think it works because I personally see the cards in lots of different situations IRL, GaaLee’s relationship is positively introduced first through (aside from avoiding a close call) a giant bouquet, and I just think it’s a really fun little thing to do.

Update time!

I’ve been writing non-stop but I definitely need a new tablet, and a new laptop RIP. But also currently doing a lot of work that isn’t drawing, which is why I haven’t been updating!

I feel like I haven’t got anything to post unless I’ve created something, and that’s fine, but hey I’m still here!

I’m around halfway through a much later chapter on my Alien!GaaLee AU ‘Falling Fast Through Fragmented Universes,’ which is basically one very long, very spicy scene, so you all have that to look forward to! Also have gotten the inspiration as of late to continue chapter three, wahoo!

But that’s all for me now, though once I have some technology back I’ll have more to share!
