A character as minor as this is not expected to be loved at all, but really, I experience a reoccuring phenomenon where I become a fan of the most irrelevant characters in existence.

Tube Town was a blast altogether, not gonna lie. The song, the theme and Snip-Snap (which is, for the record, a power plug). I remember having a whole roleplaying game with my younger brother years ago. I was Snip-Snap (among others) and he was Gordo (among others).

Alright screw it, full list of Kirby crossover Overwatch skin ideas:

Kirby Echo. Hard to explain how it looks with words but it works in my head.

King Dedede Reinhardt. In my heart this one is the Mythic skin of this bunch with variants for unmasked, the classic Masked Dedede mask, and the Forgo Dedede mask.

Meta Knight Genji. Not much explaining needed I think.

Bandana Waddle Dee Tracer. I didn't have any better ideas for either end of this pairing, but like. again it works in my head.

Whispy Woods Bastion. I swapped my ideas for Orisa and Bastion back and forth, but figured Ganymede dressed as the small Kirby bird of your choice would make more sense. Plus, Orisa already has a nature-themed skin.

Paint Roller Lucio. I think this is a fan favorite obscure miniboss, plus it'd be a fun different look for a Lucio skin.

Nightmare Sigma. With every idea for group skins I keep casting Sigma as the ultimate big bad, but like... c'mon it works too well here. The Hyperspheres are the ball form.

Dark Matter Swordsman Soldier 76. mouthful, yikes. I actually had a list of notes I decided to check partway through making this post, and I forgot about this one. I think the idea was the visor? Could be cool I think.

Marx Junkrat. funny little guy who chucks exploding balls. Could do a fun detail with his prosthetics looking like pieces of Nova.

Heavy Lobster Orisa. Favorite obscure Kirby boss that never shows up in a series full of recurring bosses. Definitely a skin nobody besides me consciously wants.

Mr. Frosty/Chef Kawasaki Roadhog. Hard to pick between these two iconic midbosses, but I very much only see either design working as like, an edgy slasher villain parody of the original when on Roadhog.

Adeline Brigitte. Flail is the paintbrush. That's all the justification I need to say.

Ripple Queen Mei. Definitely a more obscure character to prioritize but the idea won't leave my brain, I think it'd look too cute to pass up. Also yes: Snowball is Ribbon.

Dark Meta Knight Reaper. ow the edge.

Daroach Cassidy. Hat. Though would also consider Ashe, if only just for the sake of Storro B.O.B.

Drawcia Moira. I mean Moira throws around blobs and sprays of bright colors around, it works. Plus I think this'd be a fun look for her that's not too out of place stylistically.

Necrodeus Doomfist. Felt bad not having a Mass Attack reference of any kind for some reason (even though I don't have an Epic Yarn character here and that's my favorite spinoff). This was the best pairing of "cool bad guy" matching that I had left, but I mean I think it'd look cool.

Magolor Zenyatta. Silly floating man with his orbs and mysterious past.

Landia Pharah. Another niche one but it looks sick in my head. Was also considering giving her Dyna Blade.

Taranza Lifeweaver. Okay explaining this one: sad pretty boy with trauma and a flower motif. Plus they both use grabby magic to yoink people. Works with how average Rein players feel about Life Grip.

Queen Sectonia Symmetra. I wanted to have Sectonia somewhere and by process of elimination this is the idea I like the best. Not explicitly meant for a SymWeaver thing but hey that works too. the inverse height dynamic between the pairings feels wrong though...

Susie D.va. This is another obvious one, little pink bitches with big mechs, little pew pews, trauma, and room for me to project onto.

Haltmann Torbjorn. Another one from my notes I completely forgot about. But like. Yeah no it still checks out.

Francisca Junker Queen. A guilty pleasure choice aside from the shared blue hair and axes.

Flamberge Illari. Listen the brain blast I had when I realized "burny powers and also her gun looks like a weird sword." Plus they both scream an above average amount.

Zan Partizanne Widowmaker. It'd be a crime if she wasn't one of the most canonically french Kirby characters.

Hyness/Void Termina Ramattra. I don't know the exact logistics of how this works but in the abstract concept in my head this looks awesome.

Gorimondo Winston. monke.

Yeah that's the list! Everybody besides Mercy, Hanzo, Zarya, Ana, Sombra, Ashe, Baptiste, Sojourn, and Kiriko got one. Also no Mauga... or Venture... or Space Ranger... look this list was from a while ago, plus none of these are even out yet so sue me. (actually had a few ideas for Mercy, but none of them felt really satisfying. Favorite idea for her was using Forgotten Land's final boss mostly because of the silhouette being... more similar than you'd think at first.) Also I got at least part of each of the dream friends besides Gooey, but like. Literally what Overwatch character reminds anyone in any way of Gooey. Be honest with me here.

my kirby's epic yarn review bc i couldn't fit it in the google reviews

i found this game at a Big Lots for $7 in 2012 and i think that is the greatest insult to any game ever. also this game singlehandedly led me to one of my closest friend groups and led me to a strong interest in physical crafts which has gone on strong even today so i have very strong positive opinions toward this game.

Oh, you wanted me to talk about the game itself. Let's just say this game EARNED all five stars to start things off.

Epic Yarn is a solid platformer with absolutely gorgeous visuals. Like. I cannot possibly articulate with any string of words or letters how PRETTY this entire game is. More on that later. The level design is fairly good and each level has a coherent theme with good use of antepiece (which is like a tutorial of a task to introduce it) and setpiece (the actual task) to showcase the mechanic of the level. No part of the game feels like it's too difficult to proceed or like there isn't any clear direction of where to go. You don't feel like you're being led by the hand to the goal, but you don't feel too lost. It's all and all a very refreshing game.

The game is extremely beginner friendly, to the point that my older sibling, a person who is normally very aversive to games and has little experience or skills with most platformers, was able to pick it up fairly quickly and clear the game with me, having much fun while doing so. This game stands out as lacking a health or lives system, which makes the game very easy and relatively stress-free to play. It's the sort of game you play to feel good after a bad day, or just to unwind, like a warm bowl of chicken noodle soup when you're under the weather, or a warm fluffy blanket on a cold winter night.

The story is rather simplistic, but it fits rather well with the aesthetic. Yin-Yarn is an evil wizard who wants to take over Patch Land, and Kirby and Prince Fluff have to stop him! The game's story is primarily told through lovingly animated cutscenes resembling a pop-up storybook, and the calm and comforting narration makes the whole experience feel akin to a bedtime story.

The music of Epic Yarn is quite varied, and all of it is wonderfully composed. Each track has an entire music team's worth of love packed into it, and it shows. From the peaceful piano of Kirby's Pad, to the mystical and adventurous violin of Fossil Reef, to the jaunty steel drums of Meta Melon Isle, the music of the Kirby series is a good portion of its appeal, and for good reason. This title pulls out all the stops for a one-of-a-kind musical experience.

The character design of the game works quite well for how simplistic it often is, which is arguably one of Kirby's strong points as a franchise. Prince Fluff's design of being remarkably similar to Kirby lends well to his identical playstyle, making him suitable for a second player, not to mention absolutely, cheek-pinchingly adorable. The design of the enemies, allies, NPCs, and bosses are all extremely clever, cute, or both, with the 3rd and 4th bosses standing out in particular.

And to address the beautifully crafted patchwork elephant in the room: the visuals and design. This game is gorgeous with a capital "G". This game, in terms of file size and coding, is one of the largest Wii games, and for good reason. All space on that disc is put to excellent use to show off the most impressive visuals I've ever seen in any video game. The entire landscape feels like a grand artpiece put together by a team of master quilters and knitters and even though the world is plush, it feels so distinctly alive. Patch Land feels like the sort of world one would dream about as a child or read about in a bedtime story, and the visuals and music portray this EXPERTLY. There is an incredible amount of love put into this game, and it shows in every aspect of its visuals and music. This game knows exactly what kind of experience it wanted to be, and went all in with it.

All and all, this game is a beautifully unique masterpiece with solid gameplay, good music, and a wonderful aesthetic. Definitely worth more than $7.

Ten Very Specific Happiness-Inducing Things

You have the whole day ahead of you, and it’s going to be cool/cold and rainy and overcast and lovely and things feel so relaxed. No pressure (except air pressure lmao).

Do I need to explain this one? The entire game is almost sugary sweet but in a soft, comforting way that makes me go to all the trouble of setting up the Wii again so I can play it every once in a while.

When the obnoxiously loud neighbor, whose emotional range typically varies between angry, very angry, apoplectic, and Having Sex At Everyone Else, is having a “silly-words” exchange with his (visiting) kids and seems to be enjoying himself quite a lot.

It just makes me happy to hear someone so obviously miserable be happy for like, even a minute. Even if I can’t stand him.

The perfect homemade pancake

A pancake that’s not over or undercooked, with that gorgeous, even browning that you usually only ever get from a restaurant griddle, that isn’t too porous so it lets the syrup sit on top of the pancake instead of soaking in and vanishing, with that texture that’s not mushy, not dry, just perfectly springy and soft.

(I was diagnosed with prediabetes earlier this year. I haven’t eaten a pancake in months. It shows lmao.)

The first time you fully understand a complex or deep mechanic in a video game that has plagued or eluded you for months or years.

I’m usually not great at deep-mechanics or long-term strategy, and figuring it out on my own is just *chef’s kiss* mwah!

When a song key changes in a certain kinda’ way.

Despite being a musician and singer for literally my entire life, I’m absolutely terrible at music theory so I don’t know how exactly to describe this or even what is happening musically. But you know when you’re listening to a song and the key shifts in a direction you weren’t expecting? Like suddenly just one chord is minor or it shifts from like C to G or whatever? Idk how to describe it, it’s just such an ASMR-inducing, warm-belly feeling and I love it. 

(The bridge in Toad the Wet Sprocket’s “Windmills” is an example coming up for me right now. Around the 1:50 mark, "Tell all the passengers [the change is here] we’re going home.”)
