G/T WAC Prompt 2:

Scenarios I Want To See More Often

Oh baby get ready cause I’m about to freaking rant.

Shrinking: it is my favorite trope of all time. NO ONE UTILIZES IN ANY FUN WAY. Ok I’m sure there are but I hardly see it. Normally a shrinking scene in a fic or show or movie just happens then we move on. Worst off it happens off screen or while the character is passed out or something. Like yeah it’s good for tension but 0 fun points.

But enough complaining time for me to pitch ideas. First of all my favorite kind of shrinking usually happens in universe over the course of a couple minutes, maybe a few hours max if it’s written right. Why? Let me tell you why. Desensitization. If the scene goes on too long the audience and or the character is no longer freaking out over the actual shrinking happen. That being said if it happens over a few second then audience certainly doesn’t have enough time to invest in it. I think a few minutes in universe is the sweet spot.

What is the character doing as they’re shrinking? A lot of the time, especially in visual mediums, they just stand there and let it happen. Maybe they’re freaking out in their heads but that’s the most we ever get. No! GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO DO AS THEIR SHRINKING! What if they decide they need to climb up stairs as they’re shrinking? Will they make it? How much does it take to reach each step the smaller they get? What if shrinking is the solution to a problem? The character shrinks down maybe to hide from someone or something, are they prepping their hiding spot, trying to reach their hiding spot? Maybe they’re holding something that isn’t shrinking with them. Usually see this trope in Alice in Wonderland adaptations with the bottle she drinks staying the same size as she shrinks. Does the character notice it getting heavy? Do they put it down while they still can or drop it and see the aftermath of drooping said item as their shrinking?

What’s the shrink process like? Personally when I write shrinking I love to write it as sudden burst of shrinking rather than a straight forward one. I think it makes the scenario much more fun and chaotic. The character won’t know when they shrink each time, it just suddenly happens. Maybe they shrink an inconsistent size each time, the first time an inch the second time half a foot the third 4 inches, have fun with it. I also love when the shrinking can somehow be controlled. For example I love the idea of someone shrinking whenever they sneeze or hiccup. Like they’re gonna shrink no matter what but maybe if they can hold back that sneeze or hiccup it’ll give them just a little bit more time. Time for what? Something, anything! Open a door, Climb a table, call for help, anything! Also love when this specific trope has the character sneezing/hiccuping in rapid succession and instead of it combining into one burst it individual shrinks them each time. Side note: just have fun reasons/conditions that’ll cause a person to shrink. Every time person A sneezes they shrink or if they say the wrong thing they shrink, or their height is tied to something like a cursed candle that will shrink them when it’s lit. I want more creative scenarios for shrinking.

Another thing, I really like the trope of shrinking out of clothes, I just think it adds more chaos to the whole deal. I don’t like nudity though? It’s weird. Anyways, I like when people can creatively come up with ideas around that. I have a comic I drew in October where the person shrinking has a towel set to the side so when they shrink out of their clothes they have something to immediately change into. Obviously this doesn’t fit every scenario, if the person shrinking didn’t plan for it how will this problem be resolved. I’ve seen scenarios that have characters wear clothes under their normal ones specifically designed to shrink with them to give you the fun of shrinking out of clothes with none of the nudity. I appreciate ideas like that.

My friend @sucker-for-shifters suggested forced shrinking which is one of my favorites. Forced shrinking/not knowing why your shrinking is another one of my top their shrinking tropes! Let’s throw ideas shall we? I like when persona A is actively being shrunk by person b against their will and person A is putting up as much of a fight as they can. Maybe not physically but person A can be trying to keep a level head and not give the satisfaction of seeing them panic. Maybe A is readying the space for their inevitable fate or doing everything in their power to keep person B from capturing them when they get too small. Like it’s a super villain scenario and I think it’s so cool. Also like is someone shrinks cause they were tricked into doing something that triggers it. Drinking a weird potion, wearing an experimental piece of technology, reciting a spell. There’s a lot of ways to do it. Love the sub trope of the size shifter that is normal height then suddenly shrinks under certain circumstances and has to wait it out til they turn back to normal. No control over when or how it happens but can at least prepare for it.

I think I’ve said everything I wanted to on the shrinking trope. Share your shrinking stories or ideas, I’d love to see them.

BONUS PROMPT:

Give me more tinies in G/t scenarios with super powers that aren’t size shifters. No hate to size shifters at all, love them to death. Just think it’s more fun for a tiny to have a random power that gives them an edge over their giant. Love Ant Man, but give me a tiny with super strength or that knows magic or that can duplicate themselves.

G/t WAC - Day 1 (oops I'm late)

First wanna shout out to @entomolog-t for putting so much work into the G/t Writer's Appreciation Challenge. I think it's a very fun, extremely sweet idea and while I know I'm not gonna be able to hit all of these (I am ALREADY LATE for Day 1!!) I'm going to do my best because, especially right now with everything going on in my life, ***I*** could use the push to read more and the idea that everyone is sharing their favourite things and there's so much already available (plus the things that will inevitably be created throughout this month with or without the g/t wac) that seeing it all get shared around is a huge huge boon to my mood right now.

Day One: Share Your Comfort Fic

This probably comes as no surprise, but my comfort fic is by @adjacentperception, from their Rose & LaPorte series (directory link).

I have so many pieces out of this collection of short stories that I adore and find myself going back to when I need something to brighten any given day, but the one I go back to the most often is Witching Hour Curly Fries Pt. 2. It brings me, among so many other things, such a deep catharsis for emotions I have struggled with (and now, thankfully rarely, still struggle with) through the lens of Atticus and his unique situation.

There's something about how real both Atticus and his best friend Quinn feel as people, not just characters, and also how shockingly real Atticus makes the fantastical problem of being 4 inches tall (most of the time) feel to the reader through this piece in particular. There's a connection I felt the first time I read it that I have never stopped being able to come back to; there's something so deep there that hurts me to feel so strongly, that even through fiction and fantasy is still, at the core, so human and emotional.

There are times where you just need to sit with your best friend and talk, even though it isn't fixing anything. Even when the point is for you-- both of you, even-- to come to terms with the fact that the problems go so far beyond what they appear to. That there's something so much deeper, and that it may be genuinely unfixable at that level. That the wrappings and trappings and the portrait of what everyone, possibly including you, think your problems are merely just brought forth deeper issues that you don't know if you can untangle and process, let alone work toward correcting.

It's a beautiful piece to me and I have cried over it so many times for the pain and hope it gives me. Zip is wonderful writer, and always has been. Their characters are so human that they feel like coworkers or roommates to me sometimes, and their ability to find a real, core person in any character they make is one of the reasons I love them so much.

I really can't recommend the Rose & LaPorte series enough. It has more than earned it's place as one of my Permanently Open Tabs, and there's really something for every mood I'm in. I love Zip and all of their precious dingdongs and their adventures. <3

trope i'd like to see more? mmmmm being stuck with a giant while they're still in feral mode. the most pressing danger is over, but the larger doesn't recognize that. in fact, they're solely focused on you. being cradled to a chest with a clawed hand. held precariously between two fingers and inspected for injuries, pinned under the gaze of two massive, clouded eyes. trying to sneak away only to be met with a sharp, booming growl. all that stuff.

maybe some progress is made, and you're able to walk away long enough to retrieve some supplies, pretending like you don't hear a whine echoing behind you. coming back, and whatever new materials you have being sniffed curiously, cautiously. eventually, you settle down. neither of you are sleeping tonight. not the giant, clutching you to their chest or neck, ready to pounce at anything that so much as twitches towards you. certainly not you, flight-or-fight still roaring, both from the altercation and the presence of this behemoth. you can only pray the lucid, reasonable person you knew soon returns. but...

in the meantime, it is kind of nice to be cradled to a massive, warm chest. to know, like your own name, that anything that tries to harm you wouldn't be around to do so much longer.

G/t WAC Day 2

"Post a prompt/scenario you wish you saw more often"

Oh boi, there's so many things I want to see more stories of!

More adventurous stories. Usually, some g/t stories feel a little... Boring. Sorry. It's just, even when there's fantasy it mostly revolves around two characters interacting in a slice of life rhythm, in the same place (usually a house or an apartment) and it gets stale pretty easily. I talked about this in a post before. Put your blorbos in situations! Make subplots, or conflicts, explore your world, change the setting, raise the stakes, you know? I just wish giants and tinies stopped being fixed in the same setting the entire story, and if they are, make smth more interesting happen, idk. I struggle with this too so I understand.

Growth. It's still so underutilized in stories. But oh, not any type of growth, no, I wish there were more lowkey body horror growth scenes. Like, make the character terrified of what they're becoming, make the growth painful, almost monstrous smh, make me, the reader, terrified, idk lol. I just wish there was more horror-centered growth sequences and the existential dread that comes with becoming five stories tall.

Giant Kaiju battles. Yeah. This is so hyper specific lmaoo like, I've only read one story with giants duking it out in the middle of the city and it was so cool that I wanna see more of it. Preferably with the little humans running away, to add that sweet old tension!

Accidental city rampage. Like, I never see this trope, ever. Idk, maybe this is the climax of a story, or a giant is stranded in a planet of tiny people and ends up in the middle of a bustling city, or someone becomes a giant and is so confused they're stepping over cars and breaking stuff. It's just that underlying fear of someone unwillingly commiting so much destruction that keeps me on my toes.

Giant elves?? Idk, just a race of really big, really elegant giants.

Fairies and fairy worlds! I loved Tinkerbell as a kid and just wish to see more stories with that child-like wonder of discovering a magical society of cute, tiny fairies.

Bring back that trope of someone finding a giant in the forest but like, let it come to a tense climax. I've read some stories that have this trope and then... Nothing happens. It's just, the giant lives comfortably in a huge house or smth, or goes back to their dimension, or is friends with the government. Where's the drama?? Lmaoo like, make a climax where the giant gets captured and the whole world knows, or give the tiny a rescue arc but then the giant secret is exposed, idk make stuff happen lol you could even add accidental city rampage in this one, there's so many possibilities.

I think that's all I could think about!

FIC REC WEEK 31 - GENDERBEND

Nightmare Scenario by jellybeanforest

Summary: Natasha Stark is kidnapped and held captive in Afghanistan. When she escapes and is found walking across the desert, her husband Steve is overjoyed but quickly becomes concerned when Tasha remains withdrawn and spurns all attempts at intimacy.

Reasons why I love it: This is such an amazing take on canon. Both Steve and Natasha are perfectly characterized, and their conversations throughout this whole fic are fantastically written. And the ending makes me feel so much for Tasha, I'm so glad that Steve has her back through all of this. Definitely read this one, I love it so much!

Chirp of Destiny by Neverever

Pairing: Steve/fem!Tony Rating: G Words: 1,494 Tags: Mutual Pining, Falling in Love, Earth-3490

Summary: Natasha isn't in love with Steve because he removed a cricket from her workshop. That would be silly.

Reasons why I love it: Oh my god, this one is so cute! I love Natasha freaking out over her feelings for Steve, and Carol and Jan hyping her up is fantastic. The ending made me pump my fist and go 'hell yeah, go get your man!' I hope you check this one out, it's amazing.

Summary: “Okay,” she says, taking the coffee from him. Reasons why I love it: Aaaah, this is the cutest, I can't! Married Stony being absolute dorks in love is my favorite thing ever, and this fic ticks all of my boxes. If you're having a not so good day, give this one a try and let the fluff give you a mood-booster!

Pairing: fem!Steve/fem!Tony Rating: E Words: 1,948 Tags: Canon Divergence, Identity Porn, Getting Together

Summary: Antonia Stark, WAC aircraft mechanic, has a number of questions when she is unexpectedly reassigned to Project Iron Man. Luckily for her, the most important one is answered very quickly.

Reasons why I love it: The concept of this legitimately made me gasp with how genius it is. I adore the thought of Toni and Eve finding each other like this, and the nudge towards their possible future at the end made me so happy. Plus, the smut is incredible. I love this one, and I really hope you check it out!

Summary: Steve Rogers from Earth-616 meets Natasha Stark from Earth-3490 in a world that is neither his nor hers. Together, they share (soft) drinks, a (slow) dance, and a few uncomfortable truths, while waiting for the multiverse to drop them back home.

Reasons why I love it: I really love the dialogue in this one. It's charged with delicious tension, and their discussions feel super in character. Plus, the ending makes me want to read a billion more words in this universe. Definitely check this one out, it's so good!

Post Your Comfort Fic

Super late to this, I know but better late than never.

Firstly wanted to shout out @creatorofuniverses Spirit of Adventure and its sequel Winter of our Discontent which I’m linking bellow

Any murder mystery lovers out there? These are the fics for you! The story follows Nettle a viri (basically a borrower) who can speak to ghosts. Imagine what happens when he gets roped into helping a bunch of cops with a case they thought was open and shut but is way more complicated than they could have ever anticipated. Add in Sheila, Nettle’s ghost friend AND BEST GIRL and you have a fun time.

Love rereading this one it’s just a fun take on the typical tiny gets found by human scenario and god I love Nettle so much. Like he’s tiny but he’s not gonna take shit from anyone, he has so much sass in him I love it. Please go read it!

G/t WAC day 14 prompt: Date Night!

Levvie crouched slightly to duck under the doorway and into the warmth of the tavern. It was nice that she could even fit through the door, while most establishments catered to larger species like dragons, few creatures reached heights quite like sea monsters and as such Levvie often had to kneel to enter shops.

She approached the counter where Pumpkin was wiping down silverware. The kôreborne glanced up briefly “aye Levvie, find anything good scavenging today”?

“A few pearls, a bit of gold… oh a picked these up for you” Levvie grabbed a sack from her waist and set it down for Pumpkin to see.

“Oh! Stone Crabs” Pumpkin excitedly grabbed the sack. “Well ,thank you I’ll throw these in the freezer and send out Kal for ya”.

Levvie sat on a stool as Pumpkin jumped down and made her way into the back of the tavern. There was a flurry of sudden commotion before Kal burst through the swinging doors, wings a blur of movement keeping his feet inches off the floor. Levvie tried not to laugh as he crashed into the bar with a gentle OOMPH!

He righted himself and quickly approached Levvie “are you ready” she asked.

“Are you kidding, I’ve been waiting for this all week” he beamed.

It was only a short walk down the docks to the new creamery. Lanterns and lights twinkled in front of the modest building. Kal almost ran up to the counter and Levvie, even with her stride, struggled to catch up.

“One small vanilla cream with honey drizzle and strawberries, and whatever the lady would like” he glanced towards Levvie.

She leaned to be eye level with the human at the counter “a large chocolate cream, with cookie bits please”

The human nodded, Kal handed over some coins and soon they both had their ice cream. Levvie held Kal’s hand and hummed as they walked further away from the docks to the community garden. Taking a seat on a bench Levvie started spooning her dessert into her mouth.

Kal set his cup on the bench, wings flicking. Levvie watched as his form shifted, shrinking, skin giving way to floof and a tail unfurling behind him. Now in his fae form, Kal sat on the edge of the cup and started using his hands to scoop cream into his mouth.

Levvie smirked “You better be careful, or I’ll have to throw you in the fountain again”.

“Hey! You said that was an accident”!

Levvie chuckled “so.. is it as good as you were hoping”?

“definitely, oh you have to try this” he exclaimed, scooping a strawberry into his arms and using it like a spoon. After he decided it was properly loaded with cream and drizzle he leapt up, wings buzzing to get him airborne. His tiny frame rushed to Levvies face and she pulled back slightly to make sure he wouldn’t slam into her.

“I don’t know Kal”.

“Come on, just try it, it's only a bite”.

Levvie opened her mouth, gently taking the strawberry from Kal. She chewed contemplatively as Kal buzzed before her. “Hm, that’s not bad actually”.

“Told you”!

“Now you have to try mine” Levvie lifted her spoon with one hand and held her other up open for Kal to land. He settled into her palm and grabbed at the spoon greedily. He shoved his entire face into the chocolate cream and then pulled back with eyes wide.

“oh” he gasped.

“see! I told” Levvie was cut off as Kal tipped the spoon while eagerly trying to get another bite and dumped chocolate all over himself.

“Oops” Kal laughed, licking his palms.

“Oops” Levvie responded as she leaned down and kissed him, her lips smothering his face. She pulled away “I hope you know you're definitely going in the fountain now”.

“Nooooo”

“Yesssssss”

The most fun tags I've gotten recently were from g/t july, and some of my favorites were under the prompts from my Twelve AU, Time After Time. I had a bunch of ideas from last year's prompts, and all the lovely tags gave me so much energy!

Never really done this before, wasn't sure if it was more polite to tag people or not; figured it was safer to not, but I will if y'all don't mind

I'm super excited to put the spot light on some of the amazing creators in the community!

There were some questions about opening up a server or sideblog to promote the event- and as much as I love the idea, I am not tech savvy enough nor do I have enough time to plan/run something of the sort😅 (It is a great idea though)

I hope this event can act as a fun opportunity to get to know new creators and drive some engagement toward the writers in the community. You all are incredible, and I hope this month will help to make you feel more appreciated💕

G/t WAC DAY 2

Ok so...prompt or scenario I wish I could see more ... Just a warning, this might not be the cup of tea of everyone, and I understand it, but as a person who loves happy and sad notes equally---I gotta say: Extremely possessive, jealous , overprotective, controlling, and maybe aggressive giants. Let me cook So, the tiny can be anything for the giant (depending the context ofc). A friend, a partner, a crush, a creation, a prisoner, a property. YOU NAME IT. But I just love the angst that could come out of that kind of situation. A fight for freedom for the tiny, who wishes to become something more by their own, maybe a group of friends are trying to make them see what their giant is doing is wrong. Or just so happens they are abducted by their giant! Who will never let them leave unless is under their supervision, and will do whatever is needed to teach their tiny a few lessons of obedience. Or just having a tiny so used to it that just doesnt notice how many other tinies are scared or freaked out by their own giant's doing. Now to that, a giant could keep them locked up, chained, maybe just never letting them go off their hands. Giving them everything they need except for their freedom. Maybe a stare that could kill, as they see their captive precious thing on the floor, after attempting to escape. Their furious reactions after being lied to by their tiny, who expected them to be distracted more time for them to make a move. Idk I could be doing this all day, but I think its a prompt that could go for a story of horror, angst...but could end in a happy note! or maybe not! But I wish I could see it more.
