hey its time for episode 4
starting off with one of the funniest fucking scenes in this whole show with suletta just fucking hauling ass right out of there after guel just surprise proposes to her
just want to juxtapose this with her wild feelings speech in 17 about buying rings and wearing the prettiest dresses
this shot just reminded me of a random detail from the manual for chuchu's demi trainer - it says earth house can't afford their own demi trainers so chuchu's is a modified older version because thats the best they could do.
suletta pilots a demi trainer during the whole field test thing so like... does she own or have a demi trainer loaned out for school use or something? i honestly forgot chuchu pilots her own suit in this scene cuz i had just accepted that the demi trainers for practical exams etc were like just there for the students to use whenever
i know this was like probably the easier way to write suletta becoming friends with earth house but lmao why didnt she just ask miorine from the start to help for the makeup exam. baka suletta.
suletta please.
till will forever go down as bestboy in the series tbh. like someone needs to write a fic where he wingmans for suletta while nika does it for miorine
suletta, you naive little baby
there really was absolutely no reason for miorine to get all handsy and possessive here lmao like she could just stood infront of suletta or even right next to her and still had the same confrontation and warning about the other houses being bad news
the 2nd light novel picking up from here and highlighting miorine's jealousy over el4n during this whole arc is perfect lmao
kinda fun to speculate on how suletta saw miorine during the beginning. like she was completely surprised miorine didnt belong to a house. suletta's so awkward and socially inept she couldnt tell she was dealing with the one other person at school who was equally socially inept
i feel like there's a lot of frames i never paused on to read like this one lol. i never realized suletta got so many questions wrong. well "wrong" cuz reading through her answers it almost sounds like she just didnt give the benerit group approved answers lmao kinda like when you get stupid training stuff at work and they're just chockful of anti-union propaganda
never forget the first time we saw miorine's room
i know so many people don't really care about the class conflict in ad stella, but god, i wish they really hadnt dropped the ball on this. like in the 1st cour they had something really good here
obligatory shot of chuchu's dads
miorine rembran will not let anyone insult her woman
does anyone know what this gold gate/door thing was supposed to be? after the second school shooting, there's a shot shown where it's the only thing left standing in that area and i dont think ive ever seen anyone talk about it before
see like even this is good re: class politics. like its not this cut and dry all spacians are evil capitalists thing. mercurian miners were pretty much lured out by the benerit group to be exploited for their labor and then left to dry once a cheaper source for permet was found. bless the fic writers who've turned that into appalachian town suletta because it's such a perfect analogy
suletta mercury literally got decked in the face and we all just focused on the chuchu punch
imagine miorine sitting with her in her room just helping her ice her face
by the way how excited do you think suletta was to call someone senpai just like in her fair use mangas lmao
ok all set with episode 4. ive gotta say, it is super jarring to go back to these slice of life school episodes after everything we've been through in the second cours. like yeah that was kind of the point in having the first half of the series have pretty much no stakes since these kids are about to be thrown into war
you know for all the complaining a lot of losers did when the show started about this not being a "real" gundam series, the only difference between watching suletta's journey versus say amuro's... is that we got to see suletta's life before everything got wrecked. with amuro we just immediately start off at the point where Everything Goes Bad

the more I think about it, as much as I do wish the whole anime ends with this cour (I'm the type who just wants to know Everything Now), I am becoming more convinced that g witch needs at least one more cour to wrap up its plotlines, even if that gives more characters more chances to die.
but I'm thinking if they're going to focus on the presidential race for the rest of the episode and maybe even set earth up to be a more active player in Spacian politics, they would be right on track to expound on quiet zero and og elan in the next cour. like remember how delling was touted as the big baddie in cour 1 until sophie and norea came in? and then prospera replaced them as the big baddie until they made it obvious that she only has bad feelings for the rembrans? this is pure speculation now but they could give og elan the same treatment by unseating shaddiq and making everyone realize that the reason why he's being kept under wraps is because he's something of a big deal.
alternatively, if g witch does end in this cour, and assuming they won't be releasing movies and ovas and books after it, i think it would be downright hilarious if og elan was just never given the time to shine after all that setup XDDD
#g witch#gundam witch#but like even tho shaddiq looks more active than elan hanae natsuki is consistently at the 4th billing during the credits#the only time he rose to the third is when guel/azakami youhei is missing from the episode#furukawa makoto always comes after hanae natsuki#and even in the official character page the order of the three branches is guel then elan (no 4) then shaddiq#all this to say: there's got to be something more about elan right?!

wait wdym gwitch before ep 12 D: im still on 11 did they fuck it up? (dont worry abt spoilers)
oh not at all! I thought episode 12 was masterfully done by the writers, and a fitting end for the first half of the show, it just left me shocked and emotionally affected, but I’m glad the writing is good enough to elicit such a response. it definitely left me wanting more
to not spoil too much, I would just say that episode 12 is incredibly similar in tone to the prologue episode, and doesn’t pull any punches for various characters
the actions of two particular characters will very much have consequences for the latter half, especially the person involved in the post credits scene (yes there is one for this ep so make sure you watch it). It is a very shocking scene to end the first half on, but it’s setup for the next.
we are back to square one with one relationship in particular (or perhaps even worse off) but I don’t think this is out of nowhere on the writers’ part, rather it’s one of the lowest points in a characters as-yet-unfinished arc. they’re reaching rock bottom, but now they’ll have to wake up and untangle themselves from the manipulative forces around them. I am v interested to see how they will navigate repairing their relationships and earning back trust, and then breaking free of their bonds to start on their path to self actualization
#n e ways yeah I have had episode 12 on the brain for the past 4 days. I am mentally unwell#I have so many many thoughts on themes and character arc for this show#I am anticipating so much mirroring support arcs#for s2 bc we need certain characters to rebel and realize they’re being used#g witch#ubb chirps#asked and answered#gundam#gundam the witch from mercury#witch from mercury#g-witch#oh also yeah it was a great episode but wow if I think about g witch too hard I get sad#THEY’D JUST FIGURED THINGS OUT!! THEY WERE IN SUCH A PERFECT POSITION TO PROGRESS IN THEIR RELATIONSHIP!! AAAAAAAAA#I’m sure they’ll return to eachother but wow they have so many things that will b pulling them apart that they’ll have to overcome#if they don’t I’m just giving up

#dragonowlie's random texts#like. i was a dumbass and didn't realise Space Oomfie was an entire episode and not a flashback until after i finished ep. 4#so i was not expecting a tragedy. but holy fuck my dudes. this prologue is so fucking good#I've watched eps 1-9 twice too but the prologue just has me in an iron grip.#no thoughts head empty only g witch prologue#actually. no thoughts head empty only g witch series as a whole

no but i'm literally so averse to seasonals i have to remind myself that the only inherent difference between them and any of my dearly beloved older series is release date . the last anime i kept along w while it was airing for the entire time was g-witch and we all know how badly that one went
#no i swear it's literally been ya boy kongming. g-witch and bsd and that's It for anything released within the last few years#like i hopped on the ya boy kongming train around when episode 3 was airing and g-witch i think it was episode 3ish as well#bsd i barely even count as a seasonal bc i hopped on a few months before season 4 and like . the rest of it is old it's just that there was#a massive season gap. i mean ig it's a seasonal but it's also like. you wouldn't call one piece a seasonal (<not comparable at all). y'know#romeo.txt

Suletta is an Amazing Pilot
I still see this idea floating around that Suletta is NOT a good pilot. That this is even a somewhat accepted opinion is WILD to me, because the show makes it clear she is a fantastic pilot. I shouldn't even have to write this article, because one can simply see it by watching the series with their eyes open. To claim Suletta is not a good pilot is to jump through way more mental gymnastics to make that claim than to simply accept what G-Witch is literally showing you.
1) Cradle Planet
At age 6, Suletta has already been training to fly mobile suits. By age 11, she's the best pilot on Mercury. Eri states that Suletta handles her beam sabers with surgical precision and calmly pilots her mobile suit through dangerous terrain that would terrify any normal person. Prospera raised Suletta with the purpose of her piloting the Aerial in mind. She raised her to be the best.
2) Episode 3
So, I'll give reigning Holder Guel the benefit of the doubt and say he only lost the first duel because he dicked around and then got caught with his pants completely down. Surely he'll do better in round 2. Except, even though Guel knows what's coming AND he's in a better suit, Suletta would have ended this duel in about 20 seconds were it not for the Darilbalde's AI saving Guel from a head shot. That this 2nd duel lasts as long as it does is only due to Vim's interference, and even with that Guel couldn't win. Suletta doesn't even use the Gundbits for the final strike of the match, the decisive blow she scored against Guel was all her own piloting.
3) Episode 4
This is the episode most people continue to cite as evidence that Suletta is a bad pilot. But the facts are clear: Suletta was doing just fine in that test and would have passed with flying colors of not for bullies blinding her mobile suit. At that point she was piloting an unfamiliar MS, not allowed to use backup cameras, and needing to navigate using only someone else's word. Anyone would struggle. Imagine trying to drive a car through an obstacle course at full speed while blind with only an outside spotter. And that completely ignores that she was having an emotional breakdown the entire time because she was being bullied. And even then, with each successive attempt, she was improving! Would a "better" pilot have adjusted faster? Sure, maybe, but this wasn't the heat of battle; this was a high school test, and Suletta is using an unfamiliar machine. And Suletta's emotional state was compromised, leading to her struggles. Because that was what this scene was about: Suletta's emotional state, not her piloting skills.
4) Episode 6
Suletta holds up incredibly well considering she's using a cobbled-together-in-a-week thruster pack and still at a heavy disadvantage against the Pharact. Not to mention this time her pilot also has a Gundam with the benefit of the Gund Format. And while Eri's data storm resonance may have opened up the final blow for her, it was Suletta’s piloting that pushed Elan to go to Permet Score 4 despite his advantage. And even at Score 4, Suletta was pushing Elan into a corner.
5) Episode 9
This pretty much speaks for itself. Suletta holds off multiple mobile suits at once, eventually finding herself alone against 6 of the best pilots at Asticassia and none of them can take her down. She survives even through her self doubt, even through the GUND format being disabled and having to pilot normally. And then she activates Score 6 and it's all Suletta. Suletta was the one completely outmaneuvering the entire Grassley team, piloting the Aerial AND manually controlling the Gundbits the entire time. While also processing all the information the Gundbits were feeding her about the battlefield. Suletta survived that 1v6 and may have even won it if she was forced to. We'll never know because ultimately Shaddiq fell into Miorine's trap.
6) Episode 12
Gundam vs Two Gundams! Suletta has a new ride and it's arguably the strongest MS in Ad Stella. Still the best mobile suit means little without a good pilot. And Suletta takes on two Gundam pilots actively trying to kill her. Two Gundam pilots that just wiped the floor with Plant Quetta's professional security forces and also have the Gund Format. And yet Suletta fights them both off.
7) Episode 13
Okay, this isn't really fair. Suletta and the Rebuild are far and away superior to anything the lesser Benerit companies can throw at them. But it's still impressive she went through a gauntlet of what presumably the best of the rest could throw at her w/o breaking a sweat.
8) Episode 14
Sophie is ultimately killed by the Gund Format before there could be a conclusive resolution to their fight, but again, Suletta did not struggle against a trained child soldier using a Gundam trying to kill her.
9) Episode 17
Suletta does not lose this duel unless Miorine and Ericht betray her. In fact, it's not even a contest if Guel doesn't use the Darilbalde's AI. He even admits he's not a match for her without it. And to top it all off, the Aerial starts this duel still damaged from it’s battle against Sophie. Guel has some success this duel, and thanks to the AI piloting is able to put Suletta on the defensive, but despite having multiple shots at taking her antenna, he still couldn't close the deal, and once Suletta got serious, it was over. It took one of the best pilots in Asticassia piloting a top of the line new model MS using a top of the line learning and piloting AI just to get a solid shot at defeating Suletta 1-on-1 and he still couldn't beat her.
10) Episode 18
A short scene of Suletta easily passing one of her Demi Trainer tests. All while she's suffering from severe depression due to the divorce.
Calibarn
Her piloting the Calibarn as a whole is a testament to Suletta’s superb piloting skills. Suletta takes on Quiet Zero and Aerial all by herself, and she comes out of the battle with only some superficial damage. Before this battle, Ericht took on an entire SAL fleet of professional soldiers and was wiping the floor with them using her Gundnodes, before even engaging the override. The story establishes that Ericht + Quiet Zero > A fleet of trained soldiers. And Suletta takes her on all by herself and comes out on top. You can't even use the excuse that she benefited from an advantage with the Gund format and piloting a Gundam because so is Eri. And Ericht is perfectly synchronized with the data storm.
And yes, they weren't trying to kill each other, but that is actually more difficult in the heat of battle. In fact, you can see Suletta making the fight more difficult for herself by punching and kicking away the Aerial’s Gundbits instead of simply destroying them because she doesn't want to kill the coven. It's a testament to Suletta incredible skills that she's able to dodge all the incoming fire without accidentally dodging into it, all while dueling her sister without killing her.
And of course, she's doing this all while the Calibarn is trying to kill her. Even with her permet resistance, she is still under constant strain while piloting the Calibarn, you can hear it in her voice the entire time.
The only other argument I see made against Suletta’s skill as a pilot that isn't a double standard rooted in sexism is that the Gund Format elevates her from a terrible pilot to a good one. Which is pretty ridiculous because we don't see that with any other Gundam pilot in the show. Yes, they have a tech advantage being in a Gundam, but the format is not enough to turn a terrible pilot into a one-woman army. Otherwise Suletta would have been easily overwhelmed by Sophie and Norea at Plant Quetta. Would Lauda struggle against an AI-less Guel in a Dilanza, needing Guel to let Lauda score the finishing blow to win, if the Gund Format made every pilot as good as Suletta?
If your only other arguments are that Suletta isn't a good pilot because she pilots a Gundam, she's some form of enhanced human and/or she doesn't directly control the bits for most of the series, those can all be dismissed. Every Gundam MC pilots a Gundam, usually carrying with them a significant tech advantage over their opponents, does that make every Gundam pilot less skilled by virtue of piloting a Gundam? Nearly every well regarded pilot in the series is some sort of enhanced human depending on the setting. Newtypes, Coordinators, Innovators, X-Rounders, etc. Nearly every main series MC has some sort of supernatural and/or super human ability. Are you going to argue that Amuro, Char, Kamille, Judau, etc are all bad pilots being carried by Newtype powers alone? And regarding the bits, not every Gundam series has telepathically or directly controlled bits. Many are controlled by advanced onboard quantum computing systems. Suletta’s situation with Aerial is no different than many famous pilots over the years. No one argues that Lockon is a bad pilot because he's assisted by a Haro.
Every single one of the above arguments is rooted in misogynistic double standards. The things that people argue that prove Suletta must not be a good pilot are things virtually every male Gundam MC has, but are basically never used as an argument against their skills: it's just part of their skill set.
Ultimately you have to jump through more mental gymnastics to argue that Suletta is a bad pilot than simply watching the show and seeing what it's showing you: that Suletta is a tremendously skilled pilot with no peer except Ericht herself and maybe Shaddiq. Someone in Discord mentioned that Suletta as a pilot is very much the equivalent to an endgame Amuro or Kira. She was already raised to be an elite pilot before setting foot in Asticassia, and her only defeat in the entire show was not to another pilot with better skills or a better mobile suit. It was to Miorine, who attacked her heart and betrayed her at a critical moment. The show was not about her growth as a pilot because unlike a lot of young Gundam protagonists, she's already starting with elite piloting skills because she's been training in harsh environments since she was a child. Her only struggles piloting in the show are entirely due to people attacking her emotionally, something she was not equipped to handle due to her upbringing on Mercury. And that is where Suletta’s character growth lies.
I don't like comparing pilots across the different Gundam universes because there are way too many different variables to take into account. But I think the only reason the fandom in general doesn't consider Suletta among the elite pilots of the franchise is because she's a woman. Instead, I see her compared against other female pilots that fans will say are "average-to-bad" and then make the claim Suletta is worse because of some of the above arguments that they don't make for male pilots.
#suletta mercury#g witch#the witch from mercury#I know I'm mostly preaching to the choir here#But I have to call out what is IMO a clear case of fandom misogyny

My main takeaway from my G-Witch rewatch so far is that if anything, people have actually undersold how catastrophically down bad Miorine is for Suletta.
Like, she is literally on a ship to Earth in that 2nd episode. This is the closest she's ever gotten to achieving her dream of escaping the Benerit Group and getting to Earth and instead she decides to give it up in order to go back and help out a girl she knew for literally one day. And then of course, when she sees that girl again, she decides to do a running (floating?) leap straight into her arms.
Then in Episode 4 she goes out of her way to teach herself how to do enough mechanics and spotting in one night just to help Suletta pass her test.
And then Episode 7, should very much speak for itself. Girl started an entire company just to protect Suletta and Aerial.
And the funniest part of it all, is that at the start of Episode 7, Miorine has the audacity to tell Suletta that she's never been moved by the plight of another. After she's spent the whole season trying to protect Suletta and going out of her way to help her with all of her problems.

Re: Witch From Mercury/Shin G-Witch Episode 2 - Homework on the First Day? ___
The Benerit Group's response to Suletta's duel will not be immediate, they can't definitely prove that Aerial is a Gundam and are aware of that. The first half-ish of the episode will be giving time to Rajan Zahi and Dominicus to react to the situation and begin to make their moves, keeping a very watchful but distant eye on Suletta Mercury.
The lunchroom scene and Miorine's gamer moment shouldn't interfere, but now that there's no big court scene, the time will be dedicated to Suletta and trying to figure out the whole bride-to-be thing while juggling her first assignments in the piloting course. Note the material she's been given, I want Shin G-Witch to lean much harder in on the militarized school angle.
The pair bicker a bit with Miorine wondering how Suletta can be a pilot and not know some of this and Suletta's frustrated in-turn with Miorine's patient impatience but doesn't sense any malice from her.
This is a subtle change in Suletta's character in that she's a bit more perceptive of when people are trying to hurt/bully her. Think back to when she was unphased by the comment on her hairband in ep. 1, I think the original approach is actually very nuanced but for some of the characterization I'm aiming for, it would be difficult to work with. I imagine in Shin's version of that scene, Suletta would become agitated almost-but-not-quite to tears (gonna save that until ep. 4/equivalent like the OG) until things started exploding, to keep emphasizing her dual nature.

Interestingly, I noticed that Suletta never calls out any permet scores. This plays into your theory with Aerial being a whole generation ahead, because it likely is running on an entirely different operating system and/or user interface.
It may be that due to there being no side-effects to operation, that Aerial is able to operate at full throttle at all times. Giving it a distinct advantage over other Gundams limited to a short burst of mass output before their user’s hearts give out.
So a bit of a belated G-Witch post that I’ve been forgetting to do, but ever since episode 6, I’ve seen people discussing how Elnora/Prospera apparently copied, recreated or acquired the anti-Gundam ‘Antidote system’ and installed it on Aerial.
But here’s the thing…
You know when Sophie drops this interesting bit of information about the ‘Antidote’ system used by Cathedra?
Specifically that it can only shut down Gundam that are operating at a Permet score of three or lower?
Well… does anyone else remember just WHAT Permet Score Elan 4 had the Pharact operating at when Aerial shut his ass down?
Yep. Dude was operating at a Permet Score of FOUR. As in, a score HIGHER than an Antidote system would be able to shut down.
Meaning that this right here…
…is almost certainly NOT simply an Antidote system. Perhaps unsurprisingly at this point, it turns out that Aerial has an entirely different, and superior form of anti-Gundam tech to what anyone else has.
Going back to my earlier post on how Aerial is essentially a whole development generation ahead of any other Gundam at the moment, I would not at all be surprised if it turns out that this isn’t so much a dedicated ‘system’ like the Antidote, but rather its simply that Aerial can manipulate the GUND-Format to override and shut-down older, less-advanced Gundams.
I mean, heck what if she can outright take them over?
Like remember back in Gundam Unicorn when we saw the Newtype-Destroyer System do crazy stuff like hijack enemy psycomm devices like bits and funnels?
What if Aerial can take that a step further and just hijack the whole damn enemy Gundam?
#gundam#gundam witch from mercury#g-witch#g-witch analysis#g-witch theory#aerial gundam#sophie pulone#gundam pharact#elan 4#elan ceres#curious theory tbh makes me want to redive into the episodes to see what else i could catch

It's fun looking back on that original post now--two months later and having now completed both Iron-Blooded Orphans and The Witch from Mercury. I wanna say, "I didn't know what I was getting myself into," but that'd be a lie. I was expecting to watch a pair of space operas revolving around giant robots fighting with stories that would probably get me emotional. Both shows are generally well regarded so I expected them to be good going in. Suffice it to say they both still managed to exceed my expectations.
I firmly believe that these shows should be watched together. If you watch IBO, move on to WFM--if you watch WFM, go back to IBO. WFM very much feels written with IBO in mind (the similarities between the GUND Format and Alaya Vijnana System being the most obvious example of IBO's influence) and I feel that having the immediate context of one going into the other enhances your experience. WFM is IBO's little sister through and through and watching IBO before it made me appreciate the show (especially its ending) more than I would have otherwise.
If you wanna know which one's my favorite, it's Iron-Blooded Orphans. Largely because I love a good tragedy, but also because it felt more complete than its successor. It's kinda obvious in WFM season 2 that they wanted more episodes than they got and had to cram a lot near the end. I could especially feel this in the last 4-5 episodes. Was it bad? Hell no! But there were a lot of plot threads awkwardly left hanging and some others that were under-cooked or felt contrived (the Space Assembly League are painfully under-cooked). I feel like WFM needed at least one more season to reach its full potential, but what we got was still damn good and had me crying waaaaayyy more than I usually do watching television.
In summary uhhhhh...
Mobile Suit Gundam is really good and words cannot describe what these two kids mean to me.
I'm still letting G-Witch settle in my mind before I move on to the next Gundam show and while I know I should go back to the original and start my UC journey; y'know, to enrich my experience through the AUs and mecha anime as a whole...
There's still one other Gundam show I got unfinished business with...
