i think it's important to remember that jason isn’t a killer who takes pleasure (or displeasure) from what he does. it's best to view him as a force of vengeance punishing those he deems unworthy of life.

so why does he do it? because the only person who ever cared for and loved him was murdered and he bore witness to it. jason’s killings are a way of avenging her, fuelled by the belief that he’s fulfilling her wishes. in freddy vs. jason, this becomes more apparent: jason’s personal nightmare is an endless cycle of killing. it’s not about pleasure and sadistic joy—it’s about duty.

he also does not hunt for the sake of killing. his violence is reactive. he only targets those who come to his territory ( as can be seen in jason goes to manhattan ). and again, in the friday the 13th remake, one character notes that jason just wants to be left alone. if no one came to the lake, jason would have no reason to kill.

wild question 👀... favorite slasher? (personally, i have a deep need towards dead by daylight ghost face...)

My favourite slasher is Jason Voorhees! His lore is kinda patchwork and nonsensical, but even so, his backstory is so sympathetic. The man just wants to be left alone in his camp in rural New Jersey. That's completely understandable, imo.

But I totally agree!! 🤩 Danny Johnson is honestly so compelling as well.

Also, not related, but I feel like his story (a 90s reporter who is reporting on the crimes he commits) would make such a great true-to-form, 80s-esque slasher flick. I think the DBD film will be too heavy-handed to really explore it, but I think it would be a really good short film, or installment piece if the movie does really good when it's released.
