OH WOW A FUSION DESIGN, WHO WOULDVE THUNK!!! (fr they’re one of my favorite character design exercises)

I’ve had a lot of work lately so I’m indulging on some fun Earwig art in-between tasks. They’ve been in my drafts for a LONG time, so I’m very happy to show this!

Mandrake + Bella makes Mandrella! While they don’t have a specific gender identity going on, they go by they/them because it’s a playful way to imply that they’re literally two persons in a trenchcoat.

Mandrake plays on the keyboard and Bella is a drummer, so I figured that Mandrella’s instrument of choice would be a synthesizer with a sequencer. The synth is a very versatile instrument to work with, and sequencers are basically a funky digital way to construct the drumline. Overall, it’s a bunch of clunky musical hardware to slam your fingers on!

It’s VERY fun to balance these two’s physical characteristics, because they’re very much polar opposites of each other - Mandrake is lanky and has very little muscle mass, while Bella is incredibly stocky and plump; their common ground is that they’re both massive as fuck. As a result, Mandrella is a little shorter than Mandrake but they have Bella’s imposing posture, so they appear to be more massive than him. I’ll probably elaborate on this, but so far I decided to make the chest area as ambiguous as possible!

More to come very soon, because fusion is SUPER fun to work with and I’m excited to share ideas jglkdfgdfg
