32. Kameda Yuki fairly new to the scene, Kameda’s growth continued with a appearance in the big-blockbuster  Inuyashiki (2018), as well as cast in the Kanata Hongo and Suga Kenta 2019 film Rin (2019).

36. Nagayama Kento reprise his role in  Cold Case 2, and acted in the star-studded  Shottan, The Miracle (2018). Next year see’s him in the cast for the taiga series  Idaten. 

37. Yamoto Yuma with four dramas and four movies in 2018 including the conclusion film  Chihayafuru Part 3 (2018) and asadora series Half Blue Sky Yamoto continued to be busy as his signature character of the ‘nice-guy’.

38. Sakaguchi Kentaro successful with playing lead with the Japanese remake  Signal, Sakaguchi continued to prove he is more than a model with winning fans hearts in  Color Me True (2018). 

39. Furutachi Yutaro although only acting in one drama this year  In This Corner of the World, this fresh-faced musican-turned-actor is cast as the male lead in 2019 film Ichigo no Uta. 

40. Shirasu Jin kept busy without the year, with appearances in five dramas ( such as Ashitano Kimiga Motto Suki, Seven Detectives: Season 4, Dolmen X ) and three movies (and one stage).

In This Corner of the World Welcomes Drama-Original Character

  The upcoming TV drama adaptation of In This Corner of the World has revealed a new character created just for the new series. And her presence may indicate a new frame story for the historical drama.

  The original manga, which has previously been adapted into an anime film, portrays World War II-era Japan through the eyes of a young married woman named Suze Hojo living in Kure. 

    The live-action series will introduce a new character by the name of Kayo Oumi. She visits Kure in summer of 2018, in search of the Hojo family home. We don't yet know what her specific relationship is to the events of 73 years ago in Hiroshima, but it seems the TV series is setting up a framing story for the main plot.

  Kayo will be played by Nana Eikura, who recently appeared in the NTV drama adaptation of Tokyo Tarareba Girls.

Eikura describes the role of Kayo as a "bridge" for modern audiences. "I think people can be uncomfortable watching period shows because it's hard to relate," she explains, "so I hope Kayo will serve as a bridge and help viewers feel connected."

  Yutaro Furutachi of The SALOVERS will be appearing alongside Eikura as Kayo's boyfriend.

  In This Corner of the World premieres July 15 on TBS.
