Keeping my saltyness out of the tags outside of spoiler tagging so I don't rain on other people's parades, but oooogh the new Sonic movie did not meet my tentative expectations. That was a Jim Carrey dick stroking fest to an uncomfortable degree. Really didn't want Gerald's character to be done by him for a reason. The lack of attention on Shadow despite it being the Shadow movie was so frustrating, summarized perfectly by Shadow's final scene still being overshadowed by Carrey. I don't think Maria even got the fact that she was disabled mentioned whatsoever? Very strange. I had fun, had some laughs, enjoyed with fellow longtime Sonic dorks that were just as excited to see it as me, but we all went out disappointed. :/

saw a discussion where someone said Beat It is camp bc it expects the viewer to believe mj is street tough, whereas Bad is ironic bc it's the same thing as Beat It but worse, and mj wasn't in on the joke. i haven't even formed any thoughts or opinions about that yet but i AM curious about what percentage of people, mj fans or not, interpret Bad as intentionally ironic/funny. and if mj WAS in on the joke, what does that mean?

rewatching ben whishaw's richard ii and yea i think the biggest difference between his and the rsc version is that he plays richard's flippancy/disregard for other people's lives completely straight and in a kind of sinister way while david plays it for humor
#shoutout to the scene with dt's richard and gaunt because it's so FUCKING funny dwhgjkflkjwjlw#it's like that one twelve scene in dw where he's reading clara's flashcards for social interaction#and he's like 'uh i'm sorry for the death of your friend slash family member slash pet'. Same energy#ricky 2#ws#in terms of 'what's more fun for me to watch' i like david better but both are v good ways to play the character imo#one emphasizes the dislikability and the other emphasizes the hubris#although i don't think playing richard's character for humor would work as well without an audience to bounce it off of#one of the weakest parts of david's 2009 film hamlet is that (now that i've listened to an audio clip of the stage recording)#the hamlet w rosencrantz/guildenstern bit in act 2 scene 2 is filled with too much dead air where the live audience would normally laugh#and like hamlet Is meant to be more Funny as a play in a way richard ii is not so it's not like. dealbreaking or anything#but i am so grateful that the rsc richard ii is a stage recording rather than. made for tv bc i can imagine a world#where tv dt richard ii would have a bunch of scenes like the hamlet/ros/guil scene where it would drag more than it needed to#so like while i do slightly prefer the rsc version both versions are ultimately best suited to their respective mediums#also rory kinnear plays henry a lot more human and sympathetic than nigel lindsay does#which means that while he is much much much more entertaining to watch#i do feel like the wider theme of the fragility and sheer ridiculousness of the monarchy as a concept comes thru better in the rsc version#as well as (perhaps accidentally..) satirizing the english nationalistic sentiment expressed by a bunch of the characters#but then again i don't think that's what hollow crown was shooting for they wanted to do a grounded drama and they did a grounded drama

If I was absurdly rich well there’s a lot of things I would do for others and also maybe buy out congress to pass health & childcare but one I daydream about a lot is being a patron of literature like if I read a novel I loved I would give a big grant to the author so they could quit work and do some more writing. Just read an essay in the Atlantic and I was like damn I would give you soooooo much money if you want to turn this into a full memoir. But also I could get weird with it like enter a mutually beneficial arrangement with someone struggling with writers block to write specific plots I’d always wanted to read etc I’d just be a Medici for American letters it’d be awesome

"I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable asking, Emily," June said gently, as she pushed her dinner around her plate (a part of her could hear her father admonishing her for it, but truthfully, she was much too nervous to think about eating), adding, "I just...well, it's like you said, you don't feel like you're over a hundred years old and, well...you certainly don't come across that way."
That night that she and Wilhelm kicked Emily out of the house (a night she continued to regret), her perception of the young woman had changed, going from a sweet, soft-spoken young lady her son was smitten with, to a manipulative monster looking to sink her teeth into Randall's soft flesh, and that image stayed with her long after that night...
...but now, in the gentle light of the kitchen, looking at her now, that familiar visage of a good-natured, gentle-hearted woman returned, though more tinged with melancholy, for reasons June now understood, and was sympathetic towards. She saw not a monster, but a very lonely soul, in need of love.
"Well, uh," Wilhelm commented, similarly eating little (despite his usually strong appetite, it was, like his wife's, waning this evening) as he took a stab at humor, joking lightly, "You look pretty good for a centenarian, lass!"

One thing that was kinda ingrained in me while storyboarding on Big City Greens was screen direction and the sort of illusion of progress that screen direction can create (this isn't just a BCG thing by the way, it's an actual film technique but this is where i learned it)
It wasn't a hard rule or anything but our showrunners generally preferred to have the characters going from left to right as the story/episode progressed (you'll probably notice this in a lot of movies now if you didn't know about this before haha). I've definitely had to restage sequences due to this rule when I first started LOL but it's become second nature to me at this point. Whenever a character moves left to right, in my brain, that means they're moving the story forward, much like how when you read it's usually left to right and you yourself are moving the story forward (obviously this is a more western thing).
I, in hindsight, realized I was doing this in my pilot. When I was first visualizing the pilot I always imagined Aika going from screen right to left at the beginning of the episode for some reason. I didn't really give it much thought but afterwards I asked myself why I did that, because I always start characters going left to right. It just felt correct in my head and now I'm understanding why. Because she's running away, actively trying to get away from the story and the goal. It's not until she gets to the cafeteria and starts moving left to right, towards Zira, who unknowingly is going to be the reason Aika has to dive back into her story. Then from that point on the left to right screen direction continues (even into the credits). I thought it was cool that my brain was just wired to do that after all these years but also a nice reminder about how important but subtle filmmaking and cinematography is. I think a lot of people do this even if they don't know the technique!
Idk why I felt like sharing this LOL. Just thought it was funny and maybe helpful for anyone looking to get into storyboarding or filmmaking! I actually don't know if there's a technical term for this? This video calls it Lateral Character Movement so maybe it's that!
youtube
but yeah anyways thought it'd be fun to share. I LOVE ART!!!

Wanting to create art but not having the skill or motivation to learn how to do it. Wanting to see a piece of art, only to soon realize it doesn't exist, and you can't make it. Wanting something to exist, but not being able to make it simply appear, realizing you're going to have to work hard to see if you can make your vision come to life. And you'll probably fail, you almost definitely won't be able to recreate the idea you've cooked up in your head, but no one else is going to do it, so either you learn and you try or you just don't get the thing.

@beatingheart-bride
In turn, Randall squeezed her hand back, as he drew in a deep breath. Despite his best efforts, clinging to the notion that his parents would at the very least be understanding once everything was laid out on the table for them, seeing that Emily really meant him no harm and that they truly were in love, there was no denying that growing cold pit in the bottom of his stomach, worsened only by her suggestion. A part of him sort of wanted to (however lamely) protest, instead suggest they save it for another day, and just enjoy themselves for now...
...he knew, in his heart, she was right. They would have to tell them at some point, and it was better to do it now rather than later; Randall had never been one keen to lie to his parents, and he knew the guilt of keeping such a massive secret from them would eat him up from the inside out. Thus, it was just better to get it out of the way-for both his and Emily's ease of mind.
"You're right," he sighed, as he brought her closer, wrapping his arm around her as he nodded, "They...they do deserve to know. I'll, uh...I'll give them a call in a little while, tell 'em when I'll be home, and that you'll be with me. We'll...we'll tell them together."
He punctuated this with another loving kiss, this one pressed to her cheek as he reassured her, "It'll be alright, Emily."

NSFW/Not Safe for Work is a funny concept to me because I have on separate occasions worked as 1. a creator of porn comics for an online subscription service, 2. a film archivist, digitizing material for the The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. I got to experience the dissonance of writing a crisp, professional email to my editor like I was taught to in art school and then attaching 18 pages of dong pictures to it. I've called a coworker over to dispassionately watch hardcore pornography over my shoulder so that they could help me make sure I was scanning a film at the correct frame rate. We were both wearing lab coats at the time. In terms of raw percentage, I have likely spent half or more of my professional life working in situations where it would not be all that unexpected to see someone's hole(s) in the course of my duties.

SASSY MEN DO IT BETTER! | TOM BLYTH
PAIRING. tom blyth x fem!actress!reader
SUMMARY. in which yours and tom’s behind the scenes gossip session goes viral and everyone’s dying to know who’s it about
AUTHOR’S NOTE. thank you to whomever requested this, nonnie i love you! this was so much fun to write and instead of Instagram posts, I decided to do tweets this time! enjoy as always and thank you for the overwhelming support on my au, it means so so much
installment of this au (recommend reading for context)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It started off innocent.
Just you and Tom in the background of a Behind The Scenes video where Rachel was currently talking about her character, Lucy Gray Baird.
You and Tom were fairly close in proximity—as you always were anyway—and you two were scrolling through your phones, showing each other funny videos or pictures of beautiful places that showed up on your feed.
That was until a message popped up from your ex, some jerk who had somehow gained a role in a movie and thought he was now some hotshot in the film industry.
“Oh seriously,” Tom mutters, watching as you tapped on the messages your ex had sent you. “He’s got to be kidding.”
Your ex had apparently “missed you greatly” and wanted to hang out so you two could catch up. He said he watched The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and was in awe of how well you acted. If he wasn’t such a toxic asshole when you two were dating, you would take it as a compliment.
“I don’t know where he has the nerve.” Tom says, giving you a disgusted look. “Like girl, please.”
“Girl please?” You say, giggling as your head fell back into his chest. “Baby, I didn’t know you said things like that.”
“There’s plenty of more where that came from,” he says, “Okay, I need to stop. What if someone on set thinks I’m crazy?”
“They already think you’re crazy.”
Tom rolls his eyes, shoving your shoulder back slightly. “You’re lucky you’re my girlfriend.”
“I think you’re more of the girlfriend in the relationship Tom,” you say, shrugging. You fail to hold in your laugh as you watch Tom’s expression turn into shock. “I’m kidding, thank you for being the best boyfriend I can ask for.”
He grumbles a sure whatever under his breath when you engulf him in a tight hug.
“You’re practically crushing my lungs.” He says a minute in, only to be responded with a roll of your eye. “But hey, I’m much better than that newbie actor ex of yours, right?”
“Is that even a question?” You say, pulling away. “He was just nonchalant and mean to me half of the time. Don’t know why I even dated him.”
Your phone goes off, another message coming from your ex. “Oh, he called you knock off Draco Malfoy, which by the way, isn’t even an insult because he doesn’t even come close to you or Draco Malfoy in terms of looks.”
Tom lets out an honest to God laugh at your commentary, shaking his head in amusement. “Yeah, but didn’t you have a huge crush on Malfoy as a kid?”
You pretend to think for a minute before nodding your head teasingly, “yeah, I guess things never change huh?”
“Okay stop, you know I’m a fake blonde.”
And the entire moment between you and Tom is captured on camera, sending your fans into a frenzy as they watched how cute you two were with each other.

drew and actress!reader having crushes on each other for 10 minutes
masterlist | actress!reader masterlist
super cute idea based on a request and taking place before drew and y/n became a couple
when they were dancing behind the scenes…
The country club set was done up for Midsummer, the OBX cast scattered about in their finest attire for the elegant event. Between takes, Madelyn and Madison filmed a video touring around the set.
“We have this super nice bottle of champagne…” Madison said as Madelyn filmed her picking up a large and expensive bottle of alcohol. Madison jokingly raised it to her lips before sitting it back down on the table, Madelyn and her continuing their tour. As they stepped off the patio, they ended up in the middle of the dancefloor. There was no real music playing, extras chatting in their little groups, but two people in particular didn’t seem to care about the lack of music: y/n and Drew.
In the middle of all the actors, the two of them were spinning around and laughing. Drew grasped onto y/n’s waist with one hand, holding her hand lightly in the other as they sang some song they’d been listening to all morning,
“And this is the dancefloor, where y/n and Drew are… I think they’re dancing— I’m not really sure.” Madelyn said, furrowing her brow as Madelyn zoomed the camera in further with a giggle. Drew and y/n broke apart, breaking into the robot together and laughing until they gasped for air. The two of them collapsed into each other, grasping onto each other's arms in an attempt to keep their laughing forms upright.
when they answered interview questions like this…
The two of them sat on Zoom in opposite rooms of their shared apartments. Following the success of Outer Banks season one, countless outlets were vying to interview the young cast that was quickly rising to fame.
“So, out of everyone in the cast, who would you want to be stranded on a boat with?” The interviewer asked.
“Oh, y/n.” Drew said quickly, barely taking even a minute to think about it. Y/n’s eyes widened, trying her best to hide the flustered expression on her face.
“Yeah, I would pick y/n because she’s funny and resourceful. The two most important things when it comes to surviving.” Drew said with a chuckle, his eyes lingering on y/n’s video on his screen. He smiled gently, causing y/n to smile as well.
“I think I would pick Drew.” Y/n grinned. “He’s a good fisherman and he just seems like he knows how to survive in the middle of the ocean.”
At y/n’s response, Drew’s smile grew impossibly larger, a blushed pink rising to his cheeks.
when the cast teased drew…
Chase and Austin lounged on the couch in their apartment, watching as the comments on the live stream flew past.
“‘Where is Drew’?” Austin read. “That’s the question, guys, he said he was gonna be here 15 minutes ago.”
“He’s probably busy talking to y/n.” Chase muttered, causing Austin to try his best to stifle his laugh just as Drew walked in the front door.
“There he is! Starkey, the people have been waiting for you for ages!” Austin said, resting his arm on the back of the couch as he angled the camera towards Drew. He quickly kicked off his shoes before crossing the room.
“Sorry, sorry, I had to pick something up for y/n.” Drew said, stepping over the back of the couch before wedging himself between Austin and Chase. The two men leaned around Drew, catching each other's eyes with a cock of their eyebrows, casting knowing glances just in front of the oblivious Drew.
when the cast teased y/n…
“You guys have quite the hot cast, both in terms of popularity and in the looks department.” The interviewer said, raising her brows as the OBX girls broke into giggles over the video call. “What’s it like being surrounded by hot people every day?”
“It’s great, I mean… look at everyone. Definitely easy on the eyes.” Madelyn said, gesturing to the computer as Madison and y/n laughed again.
“With that being said, there’s gotta be some crushes amongst the cast, right?” The interviewer continued further. Y/n could feel her cheeks warm up, blinking quickly as she tried to focus on the totally fun and lighthearted question and not a question that nearly made her heart skip.
“We have our theories…” Madison nodded, biting back a smile.
“Oh yeah we definitely have theories.” Madison doubled down, giggling to herself. Y/n furrowed her brows slightly, trying her best to remember what “theory” the two of them were exactly referring to.
“We have theories?” Y/n asked, eyeing the camera suspiciously as Madison and Madelyn simply laughed in response.
“Well Madison and I think someone has a crush on you,” Madelyn teased. “But that’s for us to know and you to find out.”
when y/n made a cake for drew’s birthday…
The entire OBX cast sat around y/n and Drew’s kitchen table, freshly moved into their new apartment together. Drew sat at the head, a cheesy blue party hat resting atop his mop of hair. The talking that was filling the room quickly died down before breaking out into song as y/n stepped into frame.
In her hands sat a cake smeared in white and green frosting, topped with a dash of sprinkles and flickering candles. Their friends continued to sing around them, the words to “Happy Birthday” falling on deaf ears as Drew watched y/n walk towards him. His attention graced the cake for only a second before they focused on y/n, a concentrated expression on her face as she carefully carried the cake towards him. The flames of the candle cast beautiful shadows on her skin, highlighting each curve of her face.
Once she finally sat the cake down in front of Drew, her eyes flicked up to look at him. She hadn’t been expecting to meet Drew’s eyes, and let out a slight gasp before her lips fell into a wide grin. As the last notes of “Happy Birthday” played out, the cast burst into applause and hollers. Drew turned to his cake, blowing out the candles before turning his attention immediately back to y/n.
“Happy Birthday, Drew.” Y/n said quietly, patting his shoulder gently. Drew smiled up at her, a wide cheesy grin making its way across his face.
