Alright ive finally finisbed stargate 94 and i gotta tell ya! It sure is A Movie!
Like as a film its. Well it sure is incoherent at parts. But as a Thing to Look At? Very fucking beautiful. I LOVED looking at this movie, the costumes for Ra and his cronies were fucking Cool, i Love a good costume.
Speaking of visuals?? All the alien tech in this movie looks like if you put some halogen bulbs in a toaster and told it to spin and it kicks ASS every time!!
Uhh what else. I thought people were over exaggerating when they said the movie didnt have shit to do with shit in regards to the show but yeah no aside from the very fundamentals points of the movie (ie daniel and jack being there, them having defeated Ra, the basic details of where the stargate was found and how goa'uld tech sorta functions) it is its own separate entity entirely.
Anything else? Oh yeah Daniel is so cute, this is fairly obvious but i want it on the record that i Love Him So. He's just doin his best, even when his lecture hall clears out, even when soldiers toss his shit around and try to get under his skin, even when he gets dragged across a dessert by a space camel, even when he's literally killed! He just smiles and faffs about awkwardly and does his Genius thing and saves everyone's asses and the only thanks he wants is to enjoy living in the culture he's spent his whole life studying and god. I love him. What was i saying-
#OH ALSO THAT FUCKING GUY. THAT OTHER TRANSLATER GUY WHO DANIEL BADICALLY CALLS AN IDIOT? HES THAT ONE POTIONS GUY FROM ATLANTIS#I was like OH SHIT I KNOW HIM#anyways just Some Thoughts. all in all its kind of not a very good film in terms of linear story telling. but its fun and very funny-#-if ur drinking. which i was ♥︎

rewatching ben whishaw's richard ii and yea i think the biggest difference between his and the rsc version is that he plays richard's flippancy/disregard for other people's lives completely straight and in a kind of sinister way while david plays it for humor
#shoutout to the scene with dt's richard and gaunt because it's so FUCKING funny dwhgjkflkjwjlw#it's like that one twelve scene in dw where he's reading clara's flashcards for social interaction#and he's like 'uh i'm sorry for the death of your friend slash family member slash pet'. Same energy#ricky 2#ws#in terms of 'what's more fun for me to watch' i like david better but both are v good ways to play the character imo#one emphasizes the dislikability and the other emphasizes the hubris#although i don't think playing richard's character for humor would work as well without an audience to bounce it off of#one of the weakest parts of david's 2009 film hamlet is that (now that i've listened to an audio clip of the stage recording)#the hamlet w rosencrantz/guildenstern bit in act 2 scene 2 is filled with too much dead air where the live audience would normally laugh#and like hamlet Is meant to be more Funny as a play in a way richard ii is not so it's not like. dealbreaking or anything#but i am so grateful that the rsc richard ii is a stage recording rather than. made for tv bc i can imagine a world#where tv dt richard ii would have a bunch of scenes like the hamlet/ros/guil scene where it would drag more than it needed to#so like while i do slightly prefer the rsc version both versions are ultimately best suited to their respective mediums#also rory kinnear plays henry a lot more human and sympathetic than nigel lindsay does#which means that while he is much much much more entertaining to watch#i do feel like the wider theme of the fragility and sheer ridiculousness of the monarchy as a concept comes thru better in the rsc version#as well as (perhaps accidentally..) satirizing the english nationalistic sentiment expressed by a bunch of the characters#but then again i don't think that's what hollow crown was shooting for they wanted to do a grounded drama and they did a grounded drama

Fat Man on a Beach (HTV, 1974)
"I'm going to read some more poems now. Erm. It may be that if you want to go and have a cup of tea, this would be a good time. I know that's what you masses are like. The mention of poetry and off you go."
#fat man on a beach#b.s. johnson#classic tv#documentary#htv#michael bakewell#aled vaughan#a frankly incredible and truly unique piece of television. according to Johnson's biographer‚ the novelist Jonathan Coe‚ this film was#described in tv listings at the time as a documentary about Porth Ceiriad‚ a rather beautiful beach on the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales#it.. is not that. i can only imagine the baffled reactions of an idle audience tuning into HTV in 1974. true‚ this is entirely filmed at#Porth Ceiriad‚ but any element of travelogue (or even really of documentary) is dispelled almost immediately: the first lines heard are#those of an unseen narrator who tells us we are about to watch a film about a fat man on a beach. 'Do you really want to watch that?' he#asks incredulously. it's a challenge‚ the first of several from Johnson‚ who spends the next 40 minutes variously pottering about the sands#mugging to the camera‚ reciting poetry (his own and others; literary and dirty) and baring his soul. I've never seen anything quite like it#I'm not sure that much has been made that is quite like it tbh. Johnson was a fiercely original‚ brilliant mind; he was a novelist#a poet‚ a critic and a filmmaker. he was also‚ when this first aired on uk tv‚ dead. a few weeks after completing filming on this‚ his#final work‚ he sadly took his own life. i mention it not as a grim factoid but because it is a vital contextualisation of this film; the#play has been described before (and play is not the right word) as a sort of loose form manifesto from Johnson‚ a laying out of his own#peculiar philosophies and interests in a disjointed manner‚ peppered with asides and distractions and filming mishaps (all kept in the#final product). for me‚ the feeling was inescapable that this was like viewing a suicide note. whether Johnson had already come to some#conclusion on that front or not‚ the fact is that his own obsession with morbidity‚ with the spectre of death and of decay (it runs right#through his work‚ particularly his work in film) transforms this into something almost confessional. there's a section of the film where#the author recalls witnessing the aftermath of a traffic accident‚ a motorcyclist thrown through wire fencing and sliced like cheese#the absurdity of the comparison is lingered on‚ Johnson almost stalls and appears to lose his train of thought (briefly discussing instead#the modern mass production of cheese) but he also seems clearly affected‚ delivering the tale in a halting‚ reverent tone#not that this is all darkness and gloom; it's just as often funny‚ or surreal (the film frequently cuts away to a bunch of bananas‚ only#later explained by one of Johnson's biographical recollections) and includes visual puns‚ bad jokes and a few moments of physical comedy#the writer doesn't seem distressed. rather‚ he seems... if not at peace‚ then as though he has come to terms. confident in his own beliefs#and ideals. but perhaps that's reaching too far‚ or reading in what the viewer wishes to read in. the sad fact is that Johnson took his own#life‚ but he left us with a body of work unlike almost anything else‚ and which is still being celebrated and analysed today. rip bsj

One of the funniest things about the Repo! The Genetic Opera soundtrack as available on most streaming platforms is that is misses most of the. actual Genetic Opera.
#like not the opera song ofc chromaggia is there#and the album has crucifixous too the cut opera song in german#but like in terms of The Genetic Opera As An Event In The Film?#there isn't amber's blame not my cheeks song even if it gets cut shirt when her face falls off#there isn't the whole fight where rotti tries get shilo to kill nathan#and so on and so forth I think its' funny#repo! the genetic opera

If I was absurdly rich well there’s a lot of things I would do for others and also maybe buy out congress to pass health & childcare but one I daydream about a lot is being a patron of literature like if I read a novel I loved I would give a big grant to the author so they could quit work and do some more writing. Just read an essay in the Atlantic and I was like damn I would give you soooooo much money if you want to turn this into a full memoir. But also I could get weird with it like enter a mutually beneficial arrangement with someone struggling with writers block to write specific plots I’d always wanted to read etc I’d just be a Medici for American letters it’d be awesome
#i love the term American letters. it’s so funny to me. obviously I would widen my horizons I just wanted to say American letters#and I’d do this for film too but that’s a separate thing with different feelings lol#my film industry feelings are…angrier and more jaded. and my American letters feelings are already angry and jaded enough

My eldest and I have this really stupid inside joke that has gotten so obscure so now my dad is confused because eldest came up to me with an edited t-shirt that is just a picture of them as a toddler with the words "babygirlie" in barbie font and I start laughing
#faerietalks#for context theres 3 layers of this joke#the first contect is boss baby and boss babys gf that he has in the second film#this created girl boss baby#the second layer is Kristen Applebees saying girlie in that funny tone during Junior Year of Fantasy High#the third layer is i am an english nerd and i told Eldest that girl used to be a general term for children. not gendered#so therefore a babygirl in this context would be a toddler because its a baby child#babies by themselves are their own context

"I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable asking, Emily," June said gently, as she pushed her dinner around her plate (a part of her could hear her father admonishing her for it, but truthfully, she was much too nervous to think about eating), adding, "I just...well, it's like you said, you don't feel like you're over a hundred years old and, well...you certainly don't come across that way."
That night that she and Wilhelm kicked Emily out of the house (a night she continued to regret), her perception of the young woman had changed, going from a sweet, soft-spoken young lady her son was smitten with, to a manipulative monster looking to sink her teeth into Randall's soft flesh, and that image stayed with her long after that night...
...but now, in the gentle light of the kitchen, looking at her now, that familiar visage of a good-natured, gentle-hearted woman returned, though more tinged with melancholy, for reasons June now understood, and was sympathetic towards. She saw not a monster, but a very lonely soul, in need of love.
"Well, uh," Wilhelm commented, similarly eating little (despite his usually strong appetite, it was, like his wife's, waning this evening) as he took a stab at humor, joking lightly, "You look pretty good for a centenarian, lass!"
#((oh absolutely! i like his style; i like that he's a horror fan; enough to name his band 'white zombie'))#((after the bela lugosi movie of the same name; and i enjoy some of his music))#((like 'living dead girl' which was on the 'bride of chucky' soundtrack as part of tiffany's introduction))#((but...his movies are oftentimes just too nihilistic and mean-spirited for their own good!))#((and you're right; baby and otis are some of the most reprehensible and irredeemable out of the fireflies))#((and so it makes it really hard to root for them-honestly 'the devil's rejects' was a pretty damn good ending))#((to the firefly family; going out in a hail of bullets; and had it just been left as a duology with 'house of 1000 corpses'))#((i probably would've been fine with that; but still; rob zombie's movies are just a little too bleak for me!))#((i think in terms of the firefly trilogy; he took a lot of cues from 'texas chainsaw massacre'))#((and the sawyer clan; but like you said; the firefly family and their brutality puts ol' bubba and co. to shame!))#((i'm sure that's why he cast bill moseley; who was chop top in 'tcm 2' as otis))#((but while chop top was kinda funny in a very deranged way; otis doesn't have any of that))#((and i think rob could learn to include a little more levity into his films; to at least take the edge off a little!))#outofhatboxes#beatingheart-bride#V:Dark Shadows

if possible i would recommend seeing barbie with your sister and 25 of her closest friends
#all of whom have a history of Committing To The Bit#very fun movie#not at all groundbreaking#but very very funny#i am not someone who spends a great deal of time thinking about marketing#but i think a study of the marketing for this film would be absolutely fascinating#especially in terms of what footage and information they released in trailers and previews and such#vs the actual plot of the film#i’m thinking particularly in comparison to the mcu films#like it’s clear some amount of care was taken to keep the details of the story’s direction under wraps#and there’s been the whole ‘it’s not what you expect’ line of talk#but it didn’t market itself around the secrecy of its plot#nor did it really market itself around its story#as i’m typing this i’m realizing that what it marketed itself on was its tone#and in doing so allowed itself to market itself as an experience#really really effectivr strategy that i’m going to assume was deliberate#because just because i don’t know what marketing strategy meetings look like or how one could possibly come up with this kind of stuff#doesn’t mean there aren’t people who are very very good at it#yes capitalism marketing etc etc#but i’m willing to give it to them#because they did in fact provide a very fun experience#and a character called sasha 😌

anyways. have yall seen the deliverance. and if yes have you read the wikipedia article. because like. that woman 100% was literally just straight up abusing her kids and used the church to get out of it. the movie doesnt even try to hide it that hard. "based on a true story" except of course for all of the important bits of context like how the cps agent was not in fact a nonbeliever in the supernatural before switching to her side and never did so and that the kid could only walk up the wall with his grandma's help and that none of the prior tenants had similar experiences (@ trey whered you go) and the POLICE CHIEF BELIEVED IN DEMONS BEFORE MEETING HER !! and that every SINGLE thing that happened in real life can be (and fucking IS) explained by child abuse. half the time the movie is just like "ok yeah sure maybe she was abusing her kids, but only because demons made her do it". and then drop little hints that she was in jail before for Something (doesn't say what but i can guess) and that her drinking problems are well established and that her oldest son was stockpiling money to get away from her long before they moved to that house. also i could be misreading the timeline but seems like her supernatural experiences only started after her own abusive mother moved back in with her which can SO easily trigger old wounds to come back to the surface so like OF COURSE youre gonna start seeing shit, disturbances can be a ptsd symptom !!!!
tldr; fuck latoya ammons so hard, if this is the made-presentable-for-tv version then like. i want to say i cant imagine what the real life version was like, but i very much can. and for that, fuck her. immensely. i hope her children are actively writing a rebuttal and/or reaching out to lawyers to sue her ass as we speak.
#origibberish#'ammons claimed she was choked by an unknown force' hmm wild maybe uhhhh it was one of her children fighting back though? consider that?#'ammons claimed she saw a shadowy figure that left bootprints' ok and in the movie her self insert uses a big fucking boot as a weapon#and if i was an abusive mom trying to hide my actions (like her self insert OPENLY DOES. THE WHOLE MOVIE)#i would also claim that big fucking boot prints appearing in my house were ghosts rather than admit they were my boots.#and can i also just say: MASSIVE fuck you to wikipedia for the format of that article. the background and skeptical analysis sections#absolutely 1000% should not be separate here‚ that is insanely irresponsible at best and outright validating delusions in support of#child abuse at worst#i get that christians would be pissed if you said 'no‚ she didnt abuse her kids because of demons‚ she literally just abused them and here'#all the evidence front and center'#but like. so?#sucks to suck. dont abuse your kids then#i am so fucking tired of freedom of religion being taken to mean that anything done in the name of religion is automatically#true and right and good and playing pretend that any of that shit makes sense. you did not abuse your kids because of demons.#you just abused your kids‚ and then forced them to lie and agree with you about it. you show you doing exactly that MULTIPLE times in the#film. outright. you don't even try to hide it‚ just make a movie saying 'no but it was fine though'#excusing her actions for all the world to see‚ including her children.#as someone raised in a similar family and church environment: FUCK latoya ammons#at least now the rest of the world gets to see how the excusing of abuse within the church works.#i guess.#also its like. not even a good movie#like. the 'tell don't show' vibes are off the fuckin charts. and the ending is. well. its. uh. well. hm. how do i put this#so bad its incredibly funny#which i know is a wild emotional switch but. good god yall#i swear they blew their entire budget on the makeup and even then just copied waters of mars#also fag does get said at some point which. for me is one of those 'this isnt funny for the reasons you think its funny but it#unfortunately is still quite funny'#purely because in my house fag is a term of endearment#but yeah. tldr‚ bad movie bad mom 👍

Wanting to create art but not having the skill or motivation to learn how to do it. Wanting to see a piece of art, only to soon realize it doesn't exist, and you can't make it. Wanting something to exist, but not being able to make it simply appear, realizing you're going to have to work hard to see if you can make your vision come to life. And you'll probably fail, you almost definitely won't be able to recreate the idea you've cooked up in your head, but no one else is going to do it, so either you learn and you try or you just don't get the thing.
#art#craft thoughts#there's a scene in bojack horseman where tarantula-tarantino is making a film#and they keep reconceptualizing it into a new media form or something and it ends up not a movie but like a bi-monthly gift basket#(bi monthly like twice a month? or once every other month?)#and sometimes I think about my projects in those terms like#does this need to be a visual art piece or written?#can I make this in photoshop like a collage#or should I paint it with proper references?#should I fine tune the description and write it into a book?#or would it be a funny one off for a fic?

@beatingheart-bride
In turn, Randall squeezed her hand back, as he drew in a deep breath. Despite his best efforts, clinging to the notion that his parents would at the very least be understanding once everything was laid out on the table for them, seeing that Emily really meant him no harm and that they truly were in love, there was no denying that growing cold pit in the bottom of his stomach, worsened only by her suggestion. A part of him sort of wanted to (however lamely) protest, instead suggest they save it for another day, and just enjoy themselves for now...
...he knew, in his heart, she was right. They would have to tell them at some point, and it was better to do it now rather than later; Randall had never been one keen to lie to his parents, and he knew the guilt of keeping such a massive secret from them would eat him up from the inside out. Thus, it was just better to get it out of the way-for both his and Emily's ease of mind.
"You're right," he sighed, as he brought her closer, wrapping his arm around her as he nodded, "They...they do deserve to know. I'll, uh...I'll give them a call in a little while, tell 'em when I'll be home, and that you'll be with me. We'll...we'll tell them together."
He punctuated this with another loving kiss, this one pressed to her cheek as he reassured her, "It'll be alright, Emily."
#((it's all the sort of thing that fueled sci-fi novels and films for decades-but now it's a reality))#((and in some cases sci-fi has a funny way of sort of predicting the future when it comes to medical science!))#((what was once the stuff of fantasy-organ transplants; artificial aids; what sounds like b-movie fluff on paper))#((has actually turned out to be pretty viable in the medical sector; which itself is pretty cool!))#((and same! as someone who has been in the same boat in terms of mental health struggles; and for a long time))#((it's a great relief that we don't live in a time where every doctor is gung-ho to perform a lobotomy))#((or some other horrible kind of treatment that does more harm than good!))#((the humanization of people with mental health struggles; better understanding of those conditions))#((changing social mores; de-stigmatization; we really have come a long way!))#((there's still room for improvement of course but still; we've made a lot of steps in the right direction!))#outofhatboxes#beatingheart-bride#V:Dark Shadows

NSFW/Not Safe for Work is a funny concept to me because I have on separate occasions worked as 1. a creator of porn comics for an online subscription service, 2. a film archivist, digitizing material for the The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. I got to experience the dissonance of writing a crisp, professional email to my editor like I was taught to in art school and then attaching 18 pages of dong pictures to it. I've called a coworker over to dispassionately watch hardcore pornography over my shoulder so that they could help me make sure I was scanning a film at the correct frame rate. We were both wearing lab coats at the time. In terms of raw percentage, I have likely spent half or more of my professional life working in situations where it would not be all that unexpected to see someone's hole(s) in the course of my duties.

SASSY MEN DO IT BETTER! | TOM BLYTH
PAIRING. tom blyth x fem!actress!reader
SUMMARY. in which yours and tom’s behind the scenes gossip session goes viral and everyone’s dying to know who’s it about
AUTHOR’S NOTE. thank you to whomever requested this, nonnie i love you! this was so much fun to write and instead of Instagram posts, I decided to do tweets this time! enjoy as always and thank you for the overwhelming support on my au, it means so so much
installment of this au (recommend reading for context)
It started off innocent.
Just you and Tom in the background of a Behind The Scenes video where Rachel was currently talking about her character, Lucy Gray Baird.
You and Tom were fairly close in proximity—as you always were anyway—and you two were scrolling through your phones, showing each other funny videos or pictures of beautiful places that showed up on your feed.
That was until a message popped up from your ex, some jerk who had somehow gained a role in a movie and thought he was now some hotshot in the film industry.
“Oh seriously,” Tom mutters, watching as you tapped on the messages your ex had sent you. “He’s got to be kidding.”
Your ex had apparently “missed you greatly” and wanted to hang out so you two could catch up. He said he watched The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and was in awe of how well you acted. If he wasn’t such a toxic asshole when you two were dating, you would take it as a compliment.
“I don’t know where he has the nerve.” Tom says, giving you a disgusted look. “Like girl, please.”
“Girl please?” You say, giggling as your head fell back into his chest. “Baby, I didn’t know you said things like that.”
“There’s plenty of more where that came from,” he says, “Okay, I need to stop. What if someone on set thinks I’m crazy?”
“They already think you’re crazy.”
Tom rolls his eyes, shoving your shoulder back slightly. “You’re lucky you’re my girlfriend.”
“I think you’re more of the girlfriend in the relationship Tom,” you say, shrugging. You fail to hold in your laugh as you watch Tom’s expression turn into shock. “I’m kidding, thank you for being the best boyfriend I can ask for.”
He grumbles a sure whatever under his breath when you engulf him in a tight hug.
“You’re practically crushing my lungs.” He says a minute in, only to be responded with a roll of your eye. “But hey, I’m much better than that newbie actor ex of yours, right?”
“Is that even a question?” You say, pulling away. “He was just nonchalant and mean to me half of the time. Don’t know why I even dated him.”
Your phone goes off, another message coming from your ex. “Oh, he called you knock off Draco Malfoy, which by the way, isn’t even an insult because he doesn’t even come close to you or Draco Malfoy in terms of looks.”
Tom lets out an honest to God laugh at your commentary, shaking his head in amusement. “Yeah, but didn’t you have a huge crush on Malfoy as a kid?”
You pretend to think for a minute before nodding your head teasingly, “yeah, I guess things never change huh?”
“Okay stop, you know I’m a fake blonde.”
And the entire moment between you and Tom is captured on camera, sending your fans into a frenzy as they watched how cute you two were with each other.
