Scary Witcher fics (Geraskier)

Last year i decided i would compile a mini list of some dark/spoopy Geraskier fic recs to share with the masses. In no particular order:

The Only One Who Resonates by crushcandles

"Did you really worry?" he asks, licking his lips.

How Geralt hated them, hated the word. His wish had driven Yennefer away. His wish had bound Jaskier to a life in which he could not do what he loved. Geralt didn’t deserve forgiveness. So he did not ask.

He wears many rings on his fingers, and several necklaces tangle at his throat. Handsome, with nut brown hair with a bit of a curl to it, and a fine jaw and nose, but his eyes.

His eyes are horrible.

Jaskier was gathering his things and he wasn’t panicking. He’d known that Geralt was going to leave any day now like he always did, so that was no surprise, even if it hit him like a punch to the gut (he was familiar with Geralt’s punches to the gut and he could say with great authority that getting left behind again felt slightly worse). But he had enough money to get to Oxenfurt now and his headache was gone and the vomiting seemed to have been short-lived. Other than the whole “can’t speak without the pain of a thousand rusty knives” situation he was right as rain.

In the corner, the thing that looked like him winked.

So I have been having a really rough couple of weeks, and I know this is probably weird to say, but your writing has kept me sane. I basically drown my sorrows in reading, it's my destresser. You're a wonderful writer and I've loved everything that I've read of yours (I really love the dark creatures au). I apologize if this is really odd, but I really just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your writing. I hope to be as good of a writer as you one day and I hope you have a good day!! :)

And I am so glad that in some way my stories and writing has been able to help out, even if only a little. And thank you so, so much for your kind words. When Newt sneezes, it catches them both by surprise. Graves sets down his papers, one brow quirked, and asks “Are you alright?”

“Yes, of course,” Newt says simply, brushing the question off, only to sneeze again - thrice. He sniffles.

“Can dragons get sick?” Graves asks, bewildered and concerned and a little amused.

“Dragons are just like any living creature,” he recites, trying to ignore the way his nose suddenly wants to run. “However, it is usually only younger dragons who fall ill…”

Graves is already on his feet - knees popping - and fetching Newt some tea. If ever there were a moment Newt loved the man, it was then. It is as though the realization that he sneezed had somehow opened the floodgates to a million more sensations. The exhaustion he had not realized had been crawling into his bones feels suddenly like lead beneath his skin. He slouches into his chair by the fire place and feels his eyelids droop. He accios a box of tissues to himself before he accidentally spoils Graves’ rich carpets with his snot and sneezes.

As though time had passed in a blink, Graves is suddenly in front of him - his own hands curling Newt’s around the soft, warm curve of a mug. Cinnamon tea and a splash of honey. Newt hadn’t even realized his throat had been hurting until he smelt the warm gust of scents from the tea. 

“Thank you,” he said, bewildered but comforted. He hadn’t been sick in years. Decades, honestly. Colds were human things, human trials…

“How did this happen then, if only the young of your kin get sick?” Graves asked as he drew a blanket across Newt’s lap. Newt purred.

“Usually the young fall ill because, well, they’re young - but also the young tend to assume their human form more often. Curious about people. Insistent on being among them, learning from them. Stay in your human skin too long and some things - like colds - are inevitable.”

He looked up at Graves and blinked, confused, when he found the man smiling and seated in the arm chair across from him. His smile could light a room and rare as it was, these genuine moments like this where Graves didn’t mind expressing himself freely, Newt felt himself preen knowing the man was his. That his smile was his. That his heart was his. 

“What?” Newt asked.

“You caught a cold for me?” Graves asked.

“What?” Newt asked again, even more bewildered.

“You stayed in your human form for so long so you could stay with me, be with me, live here with me - you caught a cold for me?”

Newt blinked, then smiled above the rim of his tea.

“I suppose I did.”

do you have any recommended fics?

So I don’t get to read a lot on tumblr bc if I’m on, I’m answering asks or typing, but just picking a few off my AO3 bookmarks (some of these I have recommended before): 

 In a Parallel Life by Firestar385 it’s a batfamily fic and I think the first multichapter batfamily fic I’ve ever read and it’s AMAZING! I’ve literally adopted this writer’s characterization– like, if I watch something DC and one of these characters don’t act the way this writer has them act, I’m going to be shook. Anyway, the plot is basically Bruce and Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian get mysteriously transported to a different dimension, and they have to fend for themselves for a while before they start uncovering answers and what not. It’s very well written and had me hooked from the start!

steady as the stars in the woods by tobeconvincedoflove this is a les mis fic where Enjolras and crew are in/working a musical, and Enjolras gets hella sick opening week– like legit hella sick. It’s over 10k words, and it’s so freaking well written and I am absolutely in actual love with it!

stuck on you by wearing_tearing it’s a Stucky fic that I’ve recommended a million times now on my blog because it’s just so damn good! Basically Modern AU sick Bucky and Steve trapped in an elevator. Need I say more??

To Be Human by Funkspiel is a DBH fic where some anti-android assholes create a virus that mimics a common cold and our sweet son Connor of course gets it. It’s VERY VERY VERY well written, and I just thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

I don’t have this next fic bookmarked, and I don’t know why because it is very very very very VERY VERY VERY VERY good! It’s called Watercast by Fishwrites. It’s a Voltron fic, and I’m going to copy and paste the fic summary be I probably wouldn’t make sense if I were to try and explain it myself, lol. Would definitely tell everyone who loves Voltron to check it out: Shiro has been a Galra prisoner for over a year; with his flight feathers clipped and unable to fly. Desperate to escape, he jumps overboard while being transported to the capitol on a Galran ship. Lance is a merman who saves him from drowning. Keith thinks Shiro is about to become mermaid dinner. Hunk just wants Lance to stop going to the surface all the time, dammit!(AU where Avians (winged folk), Galra, humans and merfolk cohabit earth. Shiro and Keith are avian soldiers, Lance is the youngest son of a Queen, Hunk is also a merman and Pidge is still looking for her family. They get caught up in a war.)

I also don’t have these next fics bookmarked but I go back to them CONSTANTLY! Lessons in Cartography by crazy_like_a and The Cartographer and the World by crazy_like_a. So both of these fics are like continuations after the All for the Game book series by Nora Sakavic. I’ve screamed about this book series and these fics on my blog before but it’s sports, whump (so much freaking whump I cannot express that enough), found family, gay, AMAZING CHARACTERS like you guys, the book series is so good. So when I found these fics that serve as a continuation after the trilogy, I was SHOOK! To this day, I’m still not convinced the writer of these fics isn’t the author of the books because the characterization alone is SPOT ON!

I have too many prompts/AUs I would love to read. Among those are florist/librarian!Newt and smitten customer/reader! Graves. Or musicians!Gramander (Percival plays piano, Newt plays the violin and they’re paired for some contest- Imagine prodigy Percival falling in love with Newt’s soft music style, and later with Newt himself -AAAAAAAAH.)

An Anon!Writer sent this lovely piece below to me in regards to the scenario laid out in this post and this post, based off this Dark Creature!AU.

WARNING: Character Death/Suicide

So I’ve been thinking (and here’s an AU of an AU of an AU of an AU, because when I read that bit with Grindelwald burning, I might have jumped to some possibly wrong conclusions):

Maybe Newt gets to Graves. Maybe he pulls Graves away from Grindelwald’s influence and they go away somewhere they can be alone. It’s too late for Graves, Newt knows, but he hopes anyway. Graves would have put himself down on the spot if he remembered what he nearly did to his Aurors, but maybe – maybe he’ll stay for Newt even when he remembers what Grindelwald made him do. Maybe Newt is enough.

The moment Graves comes back to himself Newt is watching him, chasing away the aftereffects of the Change with heat, whispering in Graves’ ear that it wasn’t his fault while the man sobs his heart out in Newt’s lap. It was Grindelwald’s fault for setting Graves loose in a populated area. It was Newt’s fault for not being more careful with his dearest treasure.

“Be angry at me,” he says. “Hate me, but please, please believe it wasn’t you.”

Graves goes quiet and still. Newt catches his answer on the breeze.

“But it was me.”

And Newt knows what’s coming, but he hopes still that Graves will find it in himself to stay for a little longer. Is 40 more years so much to ask for? 40 years is nothing. Newt’s watched creatures pass him by. But Graves is heartsick, and Graves is (was) human, and Graves is a lawman who is too fond of his city and its inhabitants’ safety to be able to absolve himself of being used as a murder weapon.

Graves is hungry and Newt brings him apples picked fresh from the orchard. Graves needs water and Newt carries him to the clearest, coolest spring in hundred of kilometers. Graves gets sick and Newt searches three days before he finds a house in the middle of nowhere with medicine. He would do anything for Graves, as caught in mate-lust as he is, if Graves only asked – but Graves won’t.

Newt curls himself around Graves at night, willing himself warmer, pressing his nose between Graves’ shoulder blades, and he’s so scared he can’t stop shaking. He’s too late. He should have done more. He should have –

“Newt,” Graves says, turning over slowly so they’re facing each other. “Newt, what’s wrong?”

His voice is hoarse. He’s spent all day crying and his words are hardly a whisper. Newt can’t make himself answer honestly.

“You know I love you, don’t you, Percival?” He says instead. “I love you so much. I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you.”

And Graves lets himself be held.

Newt wants to believe he’s lucky this time. That just this once he can have his wish without paying for it up front. He holds Graves and he hopes this is the light at the end of the tunnel, but –

“I love you, Newton Scamander,” Graves says in the dark as Newt is falling asleep, their fingers tangled together. “God, but I love you.”

“Stay,” says Newt. “Please just stay.” But he’s tired and hope is a drug and he’s asleep before he hears Graves’ answer.

“I don’t think I can.”

In the morning, Graves is still and silent, and there’s an empty bottle of cough medicine in the bottom of the wastebasket, and Newt stops hoping. He was too late for Graves after all. In his chest, his reptilian heart burns down to cinders, and then ash, and then freezes entirely. Grindelwald took Percival from him. Grindelwald took his dearest treasure away and broke him.

It’s only fair if Newt returns the favor.

FUNKZPIEL SAID:

I WASN’T READY. I WASN’T READY FOR SO MANY FEELINGS. OH MY GOD. But seriously, this is fucking beautiful. My heart is devastated. How am I supposed to heal from this?! AU of an AU, yes, but what an interesting concept of how things might have ended up!

But also, imagine the reign of fucking vengeance Newt would bring down upon Grindelwald and his men.

One day, MACUSA stops even bothering to look for Grindelwald because his forces are all but decimated, his followers terrified and in hiding and desperate not to be identified because “He’s hunting us, he’ll find me, oh God - please don’t tell anyone. Take me away, arrest me. Anything. Just don’t let him find me.”

A number of followers just turn themselves in, eager for safe harbor behind the bars of MACUSA’s cells. They still die. Bitten by spiders or poisoned by strange fogs or strangled in the middle of the night. MACUSA launches a task force investigation.

Tina finds out it was Newt all along.

They’re standing atop a hill, the sun set a brilliant maw of orange and reds that make the sky look on fire. It seems fitting. Newt scoffs. He’d laugh if he could still feel his heart any more.

“Newt?” Tina asks, her voice a small tremor in the air between them. Desperate for it not to be him. He turns and breaks her heart.

“Tina.”

“Why Newt?” Tina asks. “Those things you did; those horrible, hideous things…”

She shivers beneath the dead weight of his stare. He’s smiling at her softly, kindly, like he once did - but Newt is gone. There’s no light behind his eyes. 

“Because they stole from me,” Newt says as simply as he might name the color of the sky. “My mate, my treasure, my heart…everything. And for that, I will not stop until every last one of them is dead.”

“Newt,” she breathes. “Killing them won’t bring him back. He wouldn’t have wanted this. He died because he didn’t believe in senseless death. He believed in justice.”

“He died,” Newt snarls suddenly, making her jump, making her heart still. “Because I wasn’t enough. And I will never fall short again. This? This is justice.”

He turns from her, his shadow a writhing thing that prepares to take him away. He can hear Aurors in the distance - back up ready to apprehend him. 

“Newt, please don’t do this!” Tina cries out. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You can’t,” Newt says. “No one can.”

He disappears.

Oh no… I made myself sad.

Do you ship anyone with Credence?

I adore Credence’s character to death but he’s not my go-to when it comes to ships. However, that being said, I have read a few Real!Graves/Credence and Newt/Credence fics that have been absolutely great, adorable, amazing - so in short I’m not against it, it’s just not my go-to pairing in this fandom.

I’m not sure what “Ship AO3″ means... XD I thought AO3 was the fanfiction platform. Is it a ship/kink type too? 

Do you ship with reader?

Generally, no. I haven’t ever done that writing style before but I wouldn’t be opposed to trying it, if someone has a prompt in mind.
