SHARES MY BIG VISUAL TIMELINE HERE WITH Y'ALL.

I wanted to pin down Ophira's life before the events of BG3, and kinda after a bit. And that kinda ties into Zerxie too since they're childhood besties/exes. Kind of a fun visual thing for myself tbh!!

Can't just be normal.

They have a 4 year age gap. They meet at Bloomridge park where he's studying his magic but also reading about swarm keeper stuff, and she's studying fungi and flowers because of her mom.

Both are from non adventurer backgrounds, but he's studying magic because he has sorcerer blood. But he tells her about his ambition to be a swarm keeper ranger. She's like THAT'S SO COOL... what if we were rangers together.

By 13, she's taken to archery with a passion and learning how to track things. He's still trying to get in tune with how to take advantage of his sorc gifts.

By 18/19 he starts getting into ranger training - he's more into martial weapons [swords/knives] and by 20 he's bonded to a fae shapeshifter swarm.

By I think 20/24 they've decided to try dating and it goes okay. Mostly. He's over protective at times, and she's bullheaded - so they tend to fight a lot about that. Otherwise they're both nerds and bond over found literature and the like a lot :0

By 27/31 they've both kind of got…what would you call it… factions they work for? ASSOCIATES? She does a lot of tracking/escort work, and he sometimes tags along. There's a mission she gets really hurt on and after it he is like hey, what if we like SETTLE DOWN? Which is not something she wants.

So they end up breaking up there and diving into work for different reasons. Her with zeal, and him with THE SADS™ by 27 she's really leaned into the gloomstalker ranger type, doing a lot of like upper city work in BG for sad wife types lol and he's traveling a lot and doing arcane work.

Which wraps up in the during and post BG3 events, she probably got swooped up while minding her business or on downtime between association work/contracts whatever and he would have been out in Waterdeep I think we decided on business. Haven't seen eachother much since 27/31. BUT YEAH. THERE'S THEM.

Now he has a kid [Nerissa, who is like 2/3 by the time they meet again] and is working from the mansion where people come see him, probably really embracing things like alchemy and his sorc gifts, and she's off hunting treasure and chasing stories from journals and books she finds with Astarion. 👍👍 But they keep in touch after they see eachother again!

Given a whole story thing I have about an abandoned wizard tower she finds I gotta think how her style changes over the years, and decades following too but WE'LL CROSS THAT BRIDGE WHEN I COME TO IT!!!!

I picked this one because I love Grumpy x Sunshine and this is also kinda cosy but also relatable! And it was so atmospheric too, I felt like I was on the bus and had to keep quiet haha.

Like I Can, Bradley Bradshaw, @sometimesanalice This has such cosy rom-com feels and I love it! I pictured everything that was happening on the page and it played like a film in my head and it’s such a comfy read. Bradley’s so protective and lovely.

Love to Lie, Bradley Bradshaw, @ddejavvu INCREDIBLE! Oh my. I don’t want to spoil anything, because it needs to be experienced,  but it has all the emotions and I love it. Genuinely got upset when this finished, I looked forward to it every week! :)

The Boyfriend Experience, Bradley Bradshaw, @notroosterbradshaw My Rooster origin story! I was originally a Jake girlie and then I happened to come across this one and I loved the trope and thought I would check it out and ahh fell right in love with Mr Bradshaw. In a way this fic kind of changed my life, because now I’ve written fics for him and read so many too! It’s honestly such a delight to read and both fun but also sad. Very Bradley. I love it. 

the one where they go camping, Bradley Bradshaw, @ofstoriesandstardust OKAY SO I LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH! It has a bit of everything! The angst is there and so well written and also a trope I really enjoy to read. One of the other reasons I love it,is because it is so immersive! There’s a whole world and I feel like I’m the one going away with my friends! Very relatable, as are all of Ky’s fics!

The Trial Run, Bradley Bradshaw, @jupitercomet I genuinely felt stressed trying to pick just one thing by Bugs! All of their work is so so good! I’m going with their current series of The Trial Run! It hurts your heart and makes you fall in love at the same time! So excited to see where it goes!

Fic in Review 2023

This looks fun, thanks to @writer-and-thrasher for the tag

Total Number of Completed Stories: 16, which is great because my goal was 12 (one a month, which didn't happen, but oh well)

Total Word Count: 77,440! Again, I had a goal and surpassed it (getting to 300k on my account) and it feels really good.

Fandoms Written In: So much Ted Lasso, which I discovered after Sunflowers came out and was trending. I saw canon gay characters and went sign me up even if I don't normally like comedy stuff. I'm super glad I did because I've not written so much for a fandom so fast since my Shadowhunters hyperfixation years ago. Other than those 12, I did some PJO, Supernatural, and Batman, and Teen Wolf.

Looking back did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expect: so much less! Ted Lasso brainworms truly won this year

What’s your own favorite story of the year, personally?: I'm super proud of myself for finishing Past and Present Now Embrace, one of my few non Ted Lasso fics. Bianca was a very interesting character and the Percy Jackson universe it a great sandbox to play in.

Did you take any writing risks this year?: I think my trend towards gen stuff, because obviously romantic stuff gets more hits a lot of the time so I've trained myself to sprinkle it in even when it doesn't really need to be there. But with Ted Lasso I really felt like I could embrace the platonic stuff and when I did write romance it was because I wanted to.

Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?: I want to write a multichapter, and I'm hoping that multichapter will be either Stranger Ranger or Guard Your Heart. I've also been watching to rework the second and third parts of SSA Sam Singer.

Best story of the year: personally I'm really proud of the Fundamentals of Love and Lying, which is so self indulgent

Most popular story of the year: Get It Off Your Chest for sure, and I think that's all to do with the blurb I used in the summary

Most personal story of the year: Oh for sure it's a rather touching notion which is also probably the one I wrote the quickest. An aroace character figuring out who they are, feeling outside of so many social interactions because they lack romantic and sexual attraction? Pure projection. Also The A Team because yay autism.

Funniest story of the year: While the summary for Get it Off Your Chest is funny, Colin's reasons for picking up lesbians is deeply sad so I can't really say that. Eliza's exasperation with Jamie in Flowers for Dani is pretty funny though.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Fundamentals took a lot of work but it's also a rarepair I invented the tag for and narrated by a character that is basically an OC, so I understand why it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Most fun story to write: Holy Novelty Socks Batman is pure fluffy crack and made me smile a lot

Story with the sexiest moment: none of them really. Fundamentals and some of the other TL fics have some sex allusion though.

Sweetest story of the year: I'll say Shake It Out, a teen wolf fic from early this year that I'd completely forgotten about. What's sweeter than breaking into your school at night for a date?

“Holy crap that’s wrong even for you!” story: dito on not doing scandalous, but for angst then maybe this fic where I give Dani my caffeine sickness

Hardest story to write: Past and Present Now Embrace, for sure took the longest, with me working on it for over a year. I wanted to get it up before the Sun and the Star came out but that didn't happen.

Biggest disappointment: Not any published fic in particular but I have a lot of drafts I wish had been able to see the light of day this year

Biggest surprise: the community I feel like I've found this year, especially within Ted Lasso. Doing these tag games, trading asks and ideas with other writers, is something I've never gotten to do before and I feel so lucky and grateful for my mutuals.

Are you named after anyone? My second name (that I never use) is the name of an actress who won a Cesar the year I was born

When was the last time you cried? I don't remember, most of the time my tears comes from being tired. I don't feel sad for real long.

Do you have kids? No, and I don't think it would be good for me to have children.

Do you use sarcasm a lot? I use sarcasm

What sports do you play/have played? I used to bike a lot (and i do bike a bit more since october), now i don't play sport but i miss it a lot. I think I'll try to play badminton again or learn escrime when I'll be settled

What's the first thing you notice about people? Their height and the way the energy they put in their movement. If I'm at work, i pay a lot of attention to how they walk and put their clothes/shoes on/off, stand up/si down, talk while doing something else etc...

What's your eye color? From dark brown to light brown depending on my fatigue state and the light

Scary movies or happy endings? I only watch scary movies on purpose if i have someone to cuddle with. But I dont especially want an happy ending i love open ends!

Any special talents? I can often make a silly song on the spot with silly rhymes

Where were you born? Not so far away from both the Channel Sea and the Northern sea

What are your hobbies? I like to be outside walking or riding my bike, i love to play games or sport or videogame (i play mainly on my phone mainly last day on earth)

Do you have pets? No but in my area we have a lot of samll animals and insects coming into the house and i like to name the one i recognise. I also have plants!

How tall are you? Enough to reach the top cupboard (when i stand on a stool)

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

four. wow. why does that get so huge if i just do the number

2. What's your total AO3 word count? 

113,782. more than i thought!

3. What fandoms do you write for? 

Dishonored, Black Sails, and Horizon: Forbidden West have all gotten varying amounts committed to the page. Stargate: SG-1 has plans but no actual fic

4. What are your top five fics by kudos? 

let’s just not worry about this

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? 

yeah, i really like to, but i suffer from forgetfulness disease so i don’t always manage it. i’ve made friends in the comments! 

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

the planned ending of No Worms, for sure. the only non-canon upsides are that Vane and Abigail Ashe survive to the end. they will be desperately miserable but live to see another day

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? 

a kind of peace that might even last. i sidestep all the sadness of DH1 by making some things happen eight years ahead of schedule :) 

8. Do you get hate on fics? 

i’ve never gotten hate, but there was a person reading Potential Merits that kept leaving comments about how genuinely, personally upset they were at the narrative choices i was making that really contributed to me burning out on that one :/

yeah, sure! as for what kind… i’m quite sure i have not written enough to establish a brand

i shrimply cannot answer this. i have so many beloveds. 

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Potential Merits. the thought of trying to go back over all 86,000 words of it and make it into something i could be proud of again is way too daunting. 

16. What are your writing strengths?

i like to think that my characterization is strong, and that i’m good at leaving breadcrumbs. i always know the end i’m working toward, too 

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

banter. good god i do not know how to banter. there’s a reason i’m writing a poorly-adjusted ranger in my BG3 fic instead of, say, a bard. i’m never as poetic as i’d like to be, either

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? 

i wouldn’t do it unless i had someone fluent in the language helping me, i’d be too worried about making mistakes. i really enjoy reading it in others’ work, though. 

19. First fandom you wrote for? 

PotC, all the way back in 2nd grade

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

a kind of peace! i think my humor lands, it’s fun, i met all the goals i had for it.

Ethedis for the LOTRO ask game?

(for this ask game where you send in one of my OCs, and I give you a synopsis of what it would look like if they were the main NPC in a tutorial quest)

o hmm, I think there's a way I could be a little mean about this heheh

so I think that I mentioned at some point that before the elf intro, Ethedis had actually befriended Amdir. I haven't fleshed out all that much of it up until now, but I'm thinking this could be a short adventure with Ethedis and Amdir where you could see them being besties (before The Horrors)

this will probably just have to be one instance, as it would flow best into the Elf or Human starting zones and we don't need to stack two entire intro questlines on top of each other lol

(under the cut bc How Did This Get So Long??)

I think it actually starts in Rivendell, with the Player Character (probably an elf/human only intro) preparing to leave on the expedition to Ered Luin, at which point you are introduced to Elrond's excited young apprentice Ethedis, and the Ranger Amdir who is going to tag along for part of the trip but plans to part ways in Bree.

Fast travel to somewhere in the wilderness of the Trollshaws, you Ethedis and Amdir are a little ways ahead of the group to make sure the road is clear. Surprise! wood-trolls! combat tutorial! After the fight Ethedis will remark that it was the first time she's actually had to put her combat training to the test against a real foe, which surprises Amdir, who says that he wouldn't have guessed it was her first real fight. One of them might ask the player character about their combat experience, which would allow you to pick from a few different responses (always a fun roleplay option and tbh I wish they would use it in more quests). I think if the PC says they're also inexperienced Amdir will mention that he's very glad you're both catching on quickly and didn't get hurt (bc he would not have fun explaining how he let two newbies get injured on his watch, and would feel very bad. classic protective Ranger moment)

Fast travel again to somewhere in the Lone Lands, you all are camped near Weathertop. Ethedis is talking about the history of the area (it sounds like she's been talking about this for a while now), and overall seems very excited to be here and see this historical site in person. Amdir smiles and says he's glad that she's interested in Dunedain history, as it brings him comfort to know that others still wish to keep his people's history alive. Your character might be prompted to give an opinion on Ethedis' loredump, either saying they found it boring (which Ethedis will simply laugh off and say that's probably why she's not a minstrel, but Amdir will just glare at you) or say it was interesting (which will prompt both her and Amdir to loredump even more)

Once you make it to Breeland, somewhere in South Chetwood, Amdir says that he must part ways here. Ethedis says she's sad to see him go but hopes to meet him again once the expedition to Ered Luin is done, and Amdir will tell her that he looks forward to it if such a meeting can be arranged, but tells you both to be careful in your travels (vaguely alluding to a growing danger in Breeland.

Then you can have two different outcomes depending on your race:

If you're a human, you part ways with the Ered Luin expedition at the same time as Amdir. He will bid you farewell and safe travels, and says that he has urgent business to attend to before disappearing into the woods without further explanation (as Rangers are wont to do). Your quest objective tells you to head to Bree-Town, but after you've been heading in that direction for a while you run into a large group of Brigands and get knocked on the head. Wake up in the Blackwold jail, human intro progresses mostly as normal from that point onward (but without the combat tutorial) although Amdir's quest dialogue would be different. If we want to get really mean, maybe one of the last things he says to you as himself is something along the lines of "I fear... I will not make it to see our friend again... tell... tell her that I tried"

If you're an elf, shortly after Amdir departs Ethedis will offer to explain to you the history of Edhelion as it was told to her by her mother before she left for the Havens. Then you get the old elf intro instance but cut down a bit and framed as a flashback, there will also be an elf woman there with a vaguely familiar face holding a baby in her arms (it's never explicitly stated, but that's Ethedis' mom and baby Ethedis), she will be there when Ethedis' dad Talagan brings down the library and she collapse to her knees in a sobbing heap when it happens. No one draws attention to her but she's still There. Anyway after that you arrive in Ered Luin, quests progress as normal but Ethedis is along for the ride. Like when you go to talk to the survivors of Edhelion, Ethedis will be in the ruins with some quest comments ("Even after all this time, I can sense the sorrow in this place..." "The land remembers it like it was yesterday, and I understand now why we still leave it abandoned" and "I think this may have been my parent's house. And to think, we all could have lived here together..."), she's also going to have Opinions about the Dourhand's borderline-worship of Skorgrim lol

After everything in Thorin's Hall is over with, she will disappear for a little bit but rejoin the story during the united elf/dwarf assault on Rath Tarag. When she hears that you're planning to go to Bree next, she will ask you to try to find Amdir and see how he's doing (surely you'll only have good news! surely!)

Later on you might run into Ethedis in Rivendell, and she'll have a short quest for you, talking about missing your fallen friend but finding comfort in your shared memories of him (very similar in tone to Gorwen's quest in Thornhad after finishing Before the Shadow) Amdir was the first mortal friend she knew, and she didn't realize how much this loss would sting. Overall it's a bittersweet reunion.

naomi is so close with rosie that he’s an open book about his experience and her feelings about it are mostly being Big sad that her dad who she thinks is perfect is carrying so much hurt ): and similar kinda vibes with josie and micah. they don’t know about john’s attempt until they’re much older, but gale has a really hard time for a phase when they’re old enough to somewhat understand.

jj is the only one who ever enlists. no one else ever considers it outside of maybeee one of the non-wyatt-or-sawyer blakely kids, but they ultimately don’t. since ev stays in for so long until his getting shot in the chest the blakely kids prob kinda feel. the Most indifferent about it out of all of time because it was a part of their life for so long. save for wyatt because, well. <\3. ev being deployed is reallyyyy hard on him when he’s still a kid but old enough to grasp that his First Daddy Died by also going away for work. poor thing.

i think this general theme comes up a looot more in side b given what happens to croz. jj still enlists in side b but it’s his mama who really freaks out about it. jean sees so so much of harry in him as is and him telling her he’s gonna enlist feels like she’s watching a nightmare play out all over again.

harry told her he was going to enlist once too, and that story ended with a call from a park ranger about finding his body in the woods with a gsw in the head.

ev and curt both try to talk to him and it turns into a hugeeee fight where jj says something to the effect of don’t worry i know better- know it would be selfish to just leave everyone like he did.

youch jj. neither ev nor curt really know what to do with that.

Hello thereee, just dropping in to say that I binged-read your Six fanfic in one sitting and I honestly enjoyed it very much! Given that this series already lacks worldbuilding it's always nice to see what OC's and locations others come up with to fill in the blanks.

I also love how much care you've put in Eira's character (backstory, characteristics and just about every detail) aswell as the emotional states that Six is in throughout and based on the canon itself. Usually many media tend to downplay the potential emotional turmoil that the characters are put through and sweep them under the rug with not really any precautions (usually to save time and effort but you didn't hear that from me) but you've really taken your time here without slowing the plot down. Idk if you will write for other characters in the future but if you ever do, ill probably consume that content ngl

Hello there anon! Thank you for taking the time to read my fanfic. I know it’s not done, but I’m trying my best to get it done.

To me, when it came to world building, I had a fun time searching about places and try to pinpoint where I could place my locations, but then again, I love geography and history so it’s like my way of exploring the world while inside my house. As for OC’s, I just wanted Six to have a life outside of being a Klipse and the fact that he went crazy in season three, I wanted him to have an actual reason to go insane so giving him friends who am like him despite his family history would be a good, if not heartbreaking reason to go insane.

When it comes to Eira, her entire backstory has evolved from when I made her to how she is in the story. Mostly because I kinda neglected her, but when I made my way back to her, I realized that her character isn’t who I wanted her to be anymore because she’s supposed to be this princess and is fine with her life despite all the sadness, and I didn’t want that anymore since if she was a real person, Eira would’ve been all this turmoil and anger if she’s all alone by herself, so I changed everything about her to fit the princess I neglected. That’s why she now has all these people who love her and stay with her and why she starts having feelings for Six, I redid her story so despite her flaws and her sad childhood, she isn’t alone now and she has people she trust.

And when it comes for Six’s personality, the reason for how I write them is the fact that Six hasn’t had much to show in the series on his emotional state, he’s like a blank canvas and we only see so much in season three up until he got into custody. So I gave him the emotional turmoil and the feeling of a teenager who actually feels the weight of his actions. Six is a someone who lives a life an obedient clone and, in a way, a weapon, but he is still a teenager who does have emotions, so all the interactions he has with his friends, his family and stepfamily, and Eira are him being the emotional teenager we were robbed of.

Cracks knuckles, this is my brand of autism, let me go in. I picked the big guy/girl, or what I usually refer to as the tank. I'll get into that in a moment, but let it be known I was SAD to see it as the least voted option amongst the five traditional roles. Regardless, as someone who almost exclusively writes whump in a five man band setting, let me get into why EACH role is great for whump. The hero/leader This role *can* be the main character, though personally I believe they shine the most when viewed from the perspective of another character. The Hero is a self sacrificial character, whether for a cause or for their found family or what, they are decisive. Due to their capacity to lead, the are AMAZING for hidden injuries, exhaustion, and general "brave face" whump. Favourite Tropes: human shield!hero, martyr!hero, hidden injuries On the other hand, the Hero is also an amazing perspective for angst in general, especially survivors guilt. Please write more heroes with survivors guilt, and then tag me cause I WANT TO READ THAT!!! The Lancer/Sixth Ranger

Do I know that these are separate roles? Yes. Do I think that, most of the time, they share the same purpose? Also yes. The Lancer is in opposition of the Hero, while still being a team. They challenge the Hero's actions, beliefs, yadda yadda, and in the end it makes the whole team stronger. Shame is a great tool when whumping a Lancer, whether that be shame in themselves, or an "I told you so" moment after someone (maybe even them) gets hurt. **EXTRA NOTE** Heroes and Lancers get shipped a LOT. They just kinda have that dynamic. Lancers are very fun caretakers too, imo. Like, imagine a bitter Lancer patching up a Hero after they did something stupid (read as: self sacrificial) and then imagine the difference in tenderness when they patch up, say, the Heart. They're also amazing for holding in captivity. There's a really common trope of the Brain getting captured and the angst around that, but personally I think it hits even harder with the Lancer, because all the Lancer does is argue with the Hero (in their perspective), why would the Hero spare any resources to save them? I'm a sucker for Lancer whump haha. Still not my favourite though. The Heart

Listen. It is SO easy to fuck up the Heart, like, character development wise. It is hard to make a character genuinely so likeable that it makes sense why an entire group would fall apart without them. I know this because there are so many Hearts that don't work. This section is about Hearts that do what they're supposed to for the narrative. Easily, the most impactful character death you can implement is the Heart. The Heart is there to get the group through emotional hardship, so by taking them away, you are leaving your characters without their usual coping mechanism for distress, loss, and mourning. I'm not the biggest fan of whumping the Heart themself, moreover I love using them as a tool in the whumping of the other group members, to demonstrate the ways the group needs to grow into the loss. Without the Heart, characters are rash, aggressive, not thinking straight, and that is a beautiful recipe for whumpy disaster. If you're familiar with Dungeon Meshi, Falin is the heart. She is the drive of everything that party goes through. That is where I believe the Heart shines the most. The Brain

Typically, the Brain is not my cup of tea in most sci-fi/fantasy iterations of the Five Man Band, so let me first go over a couple other ways the Brain can manifest: - The one with the most common sense - The one with the niche, but important information - The one with the most emotional intelligence - The one with the most analytical approach The Brain can be anyone from an engineer at a space station to a bimbo who knows everything bit of gossip about everyone. Regardless, their importance to the group is based almost solely in what they can provide, which is ALWAYS a great starting place for angst.

Erase their memory. Hold them hostage for information. Gaslight them. Make them stop believing they're right about anything. On the other hand, throw them into a situation where they are completely out of their element, or expose them to a trigger from their past that completely unravels their logical ways of thinking. Turn them into someone unrecognizably insecure. The Tank

Of course, I saved my favourite for last. Oftentimes, the Tank is depicted as being a very physically imposing character. This isn't a requirement of the character archetype. What really matters is dynamic with the other characters. The Tank is always hit first. The Tank is always hit hardest. This is why, in my opinion, they make for amazing whumpees, because maybe they can handle that at first. Maybe the first few fights, they shake it off. But then they start getting chronic injuries. Then they start taking longer and longer to heal. Then the nightmares from the fights creep in and deprive them of sleep. The Tank is the first to take a hit, and the last person anyone expects to fall, and nobody knows what to do when they *do* fall. It's glorious. Anyways, I was just beyond surprised that the big guy/girl was the least voted for out of the roles, so I had to share!
