Aight finished the little character ref for my main OC, Ray!

He’s an Abyss moth and he spends most of his time either in Wasteland or in Aviary. He’s pretty grumpy and tends to distrust other veteran kids, but his closest friend Shiela often drags him to events and social situations anyways. Ray was actually the person who raised Shiela, even though they aren’t much older than her, which is why he trusts her so much. The reason he raised Shiela was because he has a tendency to adopt and raise moths, since he trusts them more than he does experienced kids. The two of them are currently co-raising a young girl named Natalie.

Mine predates all of the other guys' stories and it's kinda sappy but why not. Mine was the day I met my fellow prankster Show Pony. Despite popular belief they didn't just roll up and start hanging around with us.

The four of us ( Poison, Kobra ,Jet and I) had been in the zones about a year and had pretty well adjusted to life out in the middle of nowhere. We were on patrol by ourselves, one of the first times Dr.D let us do that alone. Basically we got to drive around all day, nothing usually ever happened. On this day in particular we were on our way home and spotted something off in the distance...Dracs? Possibly. We drew out ray guns and headed over only to be met with a horrifying scene of three people, all fairly young, seemingly dead.

"Dear Destroya" Poison remarked observing the sad scene

They definitely had just escaped the city and made it pretty far into the zones...unfortunately they were unarmed and didn't stand much of a chance.

Jet went to the three and looked to see if by some miracle they were alive. First two were a sad head shake no.

The third person had long dirty tangled black hair and was maybe about 17 years old...about the same age as me. Jet gently grabbed their wrist expecting nothing and were were all shocked when he found a pulse.

" Guys! This one's alive!"

" They're bleeding from somewhere on their head" Kobra noted, hiding behind his brother, scared for who knows what reason.

It's not a secret that I hate blood, I get a paper cut and nearly pass out and the guys make fun of me for it a lot, but this time it didn't bug me, I was much more bothered by the fact this poor kid was now hurt and alone laying next to their dead friends. I wasted no time In gently picking them up and we headed back to the car so we could go back to the diner and hopefully help this kid. I rested their head in my lap to keep them as comfortable as I could on the ride home. I took my vest off and covered them with it because it was getting cold. I felt really bad, you know, I was so lucky to have found a good group to rely on and call my family and I think this made me realize how fortunate I really was. This kid needed a friend and I decided to be that friend.

We got home and I carried their limp body in the diner and laid them on an extra mattress we had.

" YO DR.D" Poison yelled

" What's up boys?" He asked coming into the room a few seconds later ( this was before he hurt his leg)

"We found this wanderer on the route home" Poison explained " Their buddies were dead but they're alive for the time being"

He stood over my shoulder looking at the kid

" Should I call a doctor?" he asked after a second

" Aren't you a doctor?" Kobra asked confused

He laughed, realizing he had never clarified where that title came from

" It's just a name, I ain't got a degree to back it up. I don't know shit about medicine" he continued

" Ohhhhh..." we exclaimed in unison

"I'll call someone" He said leaving the room

I sat next to the kid for a while, just watching the rise and fall of their chest for what seemed like hours until an actual doctor came.

He looked them over before coming to the conclusion they were in perfect health other than a head injury.

" Just keep a close eye on them for the next few days,once they wake up they may be a little out of it but I'm sure they will be okay." He said before him and Dr.D went outside to smoke a cigar and gossip for a while.

" Well, you heard him. I guess they're gonna be alright" Jet said. "Well' I'm gonna go change the tire on the Trans-am, it's got a leak."

" I'll come watch." Poison said , Kobra following right behind his brother

Jet poked his head in the doorway after a second.

"You coming Ghoul?"

" Nah, I'm gonna sit with them." I said

" alright"

I sat for a while enjoying some silence until the kid began to wake up. Of course I had never been in a situation like this before.

I sat next to them and gently moved the hair out of their face.

"Ugghhh-shit" they mumbled groggily

'"Uhhh...Um.." what are you supposed to say in this situation?! " He-y?"

They looked over at me and the first they they said...I kid you not was

" Why do you have a bee on your sleeve?"

I looked at my shirt sleeve..I do have a bee on my shirt. Huh...good observation.

" Who...are you? You look funny." They said again

" I'm Fun ghoul, I'm Killjoy." I explained " what's your name?" I asked, unsure if they could answer that question. To my surprise they answered rather quick

" I've been waiting foreverrr for someone to ask me that. My name's Show Pony." They said slurring their speech.

" Nice to meet you, Show Pony... How ya feeling?"

"I dunno" they giggled

"Looks like you hit your head pretty bad huh?"

" I think so" they said continuing to giggle like a crazy person

" What's so funny?" I asked starting to laugh too

" The room's spinning it's like a carnival ride"

" Oh yeah that is fun- do you like carnivals?"

"Yeah...no clowns though"

" Oh you don't like clowns?"

" nu uh they're creepy and smelly...am I smelly? The dessert is gross." They thought for a second before they started crying

" Am I a clown? I'm weird looking and I smell" they said in between tears

I forgot the kind of wack mood swings that happened when you were going through withdrawals from BLI brainwash drugs.

'"Hey, you're not a clown, don't cry" I said, trying to comfort them.

Without a second though I knelt down further and hugged them.

They stopped for a second and were perfectly still.

" I overstepped and made them uncomfortable!" I said in my head " Oh Ghoul you idiot!"

To my surprise they hugged back and quietly whispered

" Thank you"

I spent the rest of the night doing my best to take care of Show Pony and just chatting and giving them a hard time while they tried to tell lame jokes such as this fun one at 2:07 AM

" Hey Ghoul Knock Knock"

"Who's there?"

" Boo"

" what?"

" Nooo you're supposed to say boo who!"

" Aww don't cry Pony"

" Your a jerk"

Show Pony became very good friends with us all and impressed Dr.D with their intense knowledge of music and when he started his station he made Show Pony his official helper.

So yeah, I love Pony, they're one of my best friends no matter how annoying they can be, one of my favorite people and a part of my large Zone family.

Dezi reads Pact

I am a newcomer to Tumblr and have just found out about liveblogging books. It seems pretty darn fun! So I decided to try my hand at it to both exercise my literary analysis muscles and to maybe make a few friends in this site. And I've decided that my first subject on this will be John “Wildbow" McCrae's web serial Pact.

I've been a huge fan of his other work, Worm, for years now (though I do have a couple issues with it). And I'm also a big fan of urban fantasy stories with well designed magic systems, so the premise of this book is already very appealing to my tastes.

I have actually started reading through it before but put it on hold for a while. I am currently sitting in the middle of Signature 8.7 and will be picking up the story from there. I'll try to post once I finish each chapter, sharing my overall thoughts and analysis, and maybe once I finish each arc to stitch them all together and make predictions about the plot.

The road so far

Here are some assorted thoughts I've had on what I've read of the story so far:

Blake Thornburn is definitely a protagonist of all time. This little wet blanket of a man has successfully fled his toxic family, survived homelessness and got adopted into a found family of queer artists only to then be dragged back into his family's issues. And the skeletons in his grandma's closet want to eat his soul.

Also he totally fumbled a threesome. My dude simply can't get a win.

Rose Thornburn is a character who is completely devoid of any trans subtext, thank you very much. At the beginning I thought she was an excellent addition to the story, being a tool to get Blake to externalize his thought process and opinions. The first arcs would have been really dry without her. But she has grown so contrarian; convincing her to help is now an additional step Blake has to do every time he comes up with a new plan of action. I suspect she might become an antagonist even before the end. Is it just me? Is it some kind of ingrained misogyny?

Evan is the best character in the story. He's such a ray of sunshine that every line of his is like a breath of fresh air in this dark and gritty narrative Blake is trapped in. Please, let him become a fire bird. I beg you. He's just a cinnamon roll too pure for this world.

The magic system is maybe the best I've ever seen and is definitely what makes the story stand out. It feels like what I, almost instinctually, always imagined magic should work like. But defined and refined to a point where it actually becomes a usable set of rules. Everything from true names, binding, spirits, demesnes... It's ugh, so good! I will probably dig more into each of those elements as they come up in the next chapters because there's so much to chew on.

The monsters. The author has this amazing ability of grabbing well-known concepts of mythological creatures and giving them their own spin while at the same time seemingly distilling them to their core appeal. After meeting Wildbow's goblins, that's how I expect all other goblins to be like. The same goes for demons, fey, ghosts... As with the magic system, I'll dig into each of those as they come up in the next chapters.

During the discussion of the binding contract, the imp Pauz has mentioned some “inviolable rules", which caught Blake's attention for a second but were not clearly explained. This has been living rent-free in my head since then and I am very sure it will come back later.

Isadora, the sphinx, could step on me. Also, she has mentioned the fact that in the classical Greek myth Oedipus actually gave the wrong answer. I've been dying to know what is the true answer the the classic sphinx riddle, but unfortunately I don't think it will be revealed...

The way they defeated Conquest was, to me, a total copout. I couldn't fully follow Blake's plan until it was all over, and I can't understand why Conquest needed to travel into the mirror world to catch Rose when previously he just pulled her out of it like it was nothing. It just felt anticlimactic to me.

Also, please, can we actually just give him an actual arsenal of stuff he can use? I know Wildbow likes to keep his protagonists as the underdog but this is getting ridiculous. This magic system allows for basically anything but still our main man only has two or three tricks up his sleeve at any time and is constantly losing resources as fast as he can get more of them.

Last time I saw Blake he was swallowed whole by an ontophagic demon, being completely erased from reality as we know it and leaving Rose to steal his life. I know he'll come back, he's the protagonist after all, but I'm really excited to see how it will play out. Will he fight his way out Hell itself? Like Kratos??

The spoilers I already got

I don't care that much about spoilers, but still would like to avoid them if possible. I decided to list here what I could already gather from the future of the story simply by osmosis from the fandom:

There will be a mermaid called Green Eyes who is super cute in a “bite your face off" kind of way.

Blake will become part tree(?).

The ending is bittersweet at best.

Really, the important thing for me is to do something fun with it. I’m always looking for novel ways of expressing the idea of pleasure, and I have fun coming up with structures that could experience pleasure in strange ways—like the petals of his cock being able to open up and reveal even more sensitive areas, or the tendrils and their hormone secretions. The nice thing is that there’s no shortage of inspiration to be found in my line of work; invertebrates have some absolutely wild reproductive structures (or structures that have no reproductive function that I can look at and say “yeah, I can make a weird dick out of that”). I have a lot more ideas on how I can Make Him Weirder, from shit like “literal sex pollen” to a bit of a knotting fic that I’m working on currently. I’m just going where the vibes take me!

Go tired of seeing "old hedgehog" designs of sonic and shadow with them just having greyed out quills and decided to do something about it

I think theyre a little bit on the younger side of the old yaoi? I did consider the fact that some people age differently (some look older whilst others look younger) so Amy and Silver got the more "youthful-ish" complexion whilst Blaze and Espio got the more older one.

Thoughhh im still working on their design. I can always make older old lady Amy (now that i think about it i should 100% make Amy a granny looking buff woman because i feel like thats beautiful)

Either way amy and Blaze kept their uh.. "hair" short. Amy still wears supergirly clothes and Blaze wears more masculine type clothes nothing else.

So Sonic and Shadow dont function like the others here, in that- while saving the world and whatnot, every so often they'd either find a kid following them (similarly to Amy and Tails back in the days) or save a kid during their whole adventure.

The first time this happened was just Luca (a black jaguar) who followed Sonic during one his little solo adventures and Sonic was like "do you have parents i can take u back too" and she was like "nah" so of course, after seriously looking for her parents through ppl with database accesses like tails and rouge, he was like "u wanna stay with me?" And Luca was like "YEAH!"

And then Sonic called Shadow like "Shadow do u want kids" and which he replied "what?" And then suddenly they adopted Luca. This is how it began.

Eventually, as one grew up, theyd find another, and then another and then well now they have like 11 kids in total.

Now, after ALL of this, they took a break and after that years worth of a break were like "wanna make a kid? Like for the challenge of having to that from scratch"

And sonic was like "what?"

So they hit up the labs and made a bio kid who is 2 months old and is the most hectic fucking thing theyve ever had to deal with so thanks for the prior 10 experinces (alas they do not compare to the mega menace)

when they and Kai eventually found their parents again, Ray caught on immediately and copied what name and pronouns Kai used for them. Maya took a while longer and some explaining before she wrapped her head around it. once she understood, though, she never messed up even once

when they were younger, Nya and Kai both wore basically the same thing: white shirt, trousers, and a work apron. Kai worked hard to buy Nya her first dress. he bought it big so that she could wear it for longer

Nya learned to sew from one of their and Kai’s neighbors, so they started making their own clothes and keeps doing it to this day. it’s easier to find things that will fit them and things they like if they just make them on their own

once she grew out her hair and started hormones, she dressed more the way she wanted, which was more androgynous than all the dresses she used to wear. Kai teases her about her leather jacket until she gets him one, too

Nya didn’t mention much about being trans to the other ninja except in passing conversation because, well, who cares? they DID tell Jay the whole story when the two started dating and Jay was a lot more chill about it than they expected (“I’m bisexual so it doesn’t matter what gender you are :D”)

Jay actually got really into the spirit and likes to buy Nya trans-themed stuff for fun. secretly they think it’s adorable 

Nya and Kai started using they/them pronouns at the same time because they both had been thinking about it and brought it up to the other. she/they and he/they solidarity 

Nya’s type in women is… women <3 Nya’s type in men is Jay (scrawny annoying nerdy guys with anxiety) 

Nya, Kai, and Lloyd become the trans friend-force when Lloyd comes out to them first (he/they, she/they, he/she/they). privately, Lloyd tells Nya she’s the reason why he felt okay telling people she was trans

Not at all. I don't have many published works to begin with.

I only recently got back into writing fic, and i'm fairly new to the Lokius fandom (plus I hadn't published anything in 6 years). I actually have many, many, WIPs for this ship because I started writing Lokius way back in like, January (my notes app is nothing but half started lokius fics and ideas hfjgkhdg)

I was also very active in the Legends of Tomorrow and Gotham fandoms back in the day (Ray/Leonard and Oswald/Ed own my entire fucking LIFE), so all those stats make sense.

Originally intended to be a duo with Lenard (he sings/makes the music and she dances) except that never really happened.

On her first ever day of existing she got lost and ended up at Ray's stage and just did a bit with him until they ran out of film. As it turns out the juxtaposition between her and Ray was hilarious and THOSE two became a duo.

Lenard legit doesnt care, especially since she makes sure to brief all the others on what happens down in the Stage 2 set (and vicea versa to Ray)

ultimately the CNBG started to try and push a "beauty and the beast" romance thing except Al (who originally despite his good intentions was kind of spineless and bent to their will) said no. He wasn't gonna make them do that, and he didn't. But the CNBG then told him to get her off the air then.

As it turns out, part of her appeal was people thinking her and Ray were more than friends, and a hard no would upset some viewers (as opposed to lying and agreeing, or doing a "will-they-wont-they")

She walked in on the destruction of some of her clones and was then chased out by the staff tasked with the job, and she fled to the basement (this was after Richie left and Ray got banished) and begged him to hide her because "they tore up my copies and they want to tear me up too!" and he agreed. He hid her and played dumb until the staff left.

She's kind of just... been in his lair since, until of course, the staff stopped showing up, at which point she got free reign of the basement, but she is too scared to leave his side. (she also doesnt make clones because shes afraid they'll get torn up too)

Headcanons:

something is very wrong with her. Her mechanic doesn't really have the "cute-Agression" but instead if gordon shoots her, or another puppet she runs at him to chastise him about it. Aka. pacifism is really important (or you attack when she's not active or looking)

there was a scrapped script from when Al was considering agreeing with the network and forcing it, but then he tossed it. It's. it's very bad and al's written in the margins a bunch about that.

she's around george height! very tall, also very wiggly. Ray is the one person she wont attempt to wiggle away from

also the one person ray confided in when it came to raymond (which. i have a headcanon about him too)

she learned a lot of stuff from ray, however, it was before gordon came around so... yeah she likes to hit stuff with small blunt objects.

in addition to that one. she needs to either be taped up, or lead to ray to deactivate her. (the second one deactivates them both, and they always are in the same room at the same time)

side quest is really just... listening. offering support.

Suri was raised in the Dornkitiya House, one of the most influential houses throughout The Bannarai Republic, her father is a politician and her mother is a judge. She has over several brothers and sisters, all who have very good careers. All except for her, Suri was always the mischievous problem child. Suri did not have a good relationship with her father at all. Her father was a traditionalist guy who would beat his children with rods if they did anything to upset him, he used the rod on Suri multiple times. Each time, Suri would give back a sarcastic or comedic remark rather than crying, and this would only make him spew out such horrible things saying that she was a disgrace to the household. As Suri grew older she realized that she was a transwoman and went through her sex change operation awake without the use of anesthesia or painkillers. She did this after her father called her a coward and decided to do this as a way to show him she wasn't. In the past, transfem Bannarai would do this kind of surgery awake to test their endurance, she went through with it, but her father just thought she was stupid. As soon as she was able to, she stole a ship and left the Republic. News of Suri stealing a ship had a negative effect on her father’s career and he vowed to kill her if she ever returned. Through her travels, she became a pirate and a treasure hunter and eventually crossed paths with Lellain. She came to see him as a little brother and later on as a romantic partner. Suri went out of her way to do things for him, she stole money to give him his top surgery, she bailed him out of problematic situations, and they both got arrested by the Jithran Guards together. In fact, Suri was one of the criminals who staged a jailbreak and stole the prototype prison ship which would then be came to be called The Falaina, their group eventually became The Jade Owls. Suri is currently the pilot of the ship and the real head of The Jade Owls, even putting Miri and Haerile in their places.

Personality

Suri is very anti-authoritarian, rebellious, stubborn and mischievous. She also has a brash, free-spirited, sassy, quick-witted, and confident streak about herself, being one of those people who spits in the face of danger. Suri also has a big mouth, often making chide or sarcastic comments to her teammates whenever they act out against each other, and she has a tendency to become ferociously angry when her limits are pushed.

Miscellaneous

Suri speaks with an accent which, to Human ears, sounds a bit like Korean (like the culinary YouTuber, Maangchi).

She has the power to use Cryokinesis, which is like a cross between Hydrokinesis and Psychokinesis, and gives the user to control ice, snow, and frozen water. She can form weapons made of ice, send a ray of ice toward her opponents to temporarily freeze them, she can also generate ice from her hands, freeze or cool water, and use ice breath.

Suri has a history with Lan Tha, one of the Jade Owls’ enemies, she absolutely refuses to discuss it, even with Lellain. She can become a bit…aggressive when you don’t drop the subject. She REALLY doesn’t want to talk about her past with them. Don’t even think of pressuring her into doing so.

Suri thinks Russell is a cutie-pie and likes to mess around with him, but in a teasing way. She will occasionally nose-boop him, hug him, even lick his face. She does it for fun and not for anything malicious.

She is the third oldest member of The Jade Owls behind Itzapa and Derrick.

She is the shortest member of The Jade Owls, measuring at 4’3.

Suri does not like being around other Bannarai and has a deep loathing for Bannarai Culture seeing it as restrictive. Bannarai culture emphasizes conformity and social harmony above all else and there is a great pressure on children to perform to their best and conform to the aspects of Bannarai society. If you don't act like everyone else you are shunned. Suri absolutely hated growing up in this environment. In addition she finds other Bannarai boring and uninteresting.

Like all Bannarai she has the ability to use Nightmare Eyes, meaning she can make her pupils glow.

Bennet mentions that they hang out/know each other during his hangout event and i find the concept of them being buddies (but fischl REFUSING to go adventuring with him) to be so fun and silly. I am the stubbornest bitch you will ever meet. The other day I was playing a game with a very steep learning curve and I was Not Having Fun but I still continued playing anyway (I did then figure it out and it's fun now). My parents used to have to physically stop me playing skyward sword sometimes bc I would rage but never quit lmao (I do not rage anymore I was just a teenager). I want to be a university lecturer. I would also love to be a policy consultant.
