As for cuddles, Don is kind of shy at first.

He wants to keep any physical affection in private, saying he doesn’t want anybody (Gilda) to know and that he has a “reputation” (he does indeed have a reputation… just not the kind he wants 😭)

Later on in the relationship is when he begins to show you off! The mix of knowing you’re in it with him for the long one AND gaining confidence in himself with the help of the fullscore trio, he loses a lot of his shame.

Doesn’t lose an ounce of his stupidity, though. He’ll walk around with you with his arm on your shoulder and showing you off, acting like he’s the big man 😭

I see Don as a cuddle switch. But tbh I don't really see him doing spoon cuddles. I feel like you two would cuddle lying on your sides directly next to each other, face to face, legs tangled and arms wrapped around each other.

If you're a light sleeper you'll wake up to him pushing you away in his sleep so he's completely spread out on the bed and you're about to fall off

When do you think each of the fullscore trio realizes their feelings for each other?

Copying from this post but I generally hold these sentiments:

Sometimes I go back and forth on this with Emma realizing it earlier but keeping it to herself so the boys have more time to digest and put a name to their feelings so as not to pressure them. She has a very acute emotional awareness.

…except maybe when it comes to herself, lol. Feel like the comparative obliviousness on the matter is the final roadblock for most of her ships with her Type A personality. If she’s aware of it and knows it’s mutual, it’s so hard to see her not just going for it, especially with these two with how badly they can get stuck in their own heads.

As for when exactly it happens, Ray realizes Emma and Norman are special to him early on, though he doesn't conceptualize that love to the full extent it would eventually become. Again borrowing from earlier posts, but:

He loved them more than he feared the consequences of revealing what he knew to Isabella. They comforted him when he'd have nightmares that left him screaming and crying in terror, even when they couldn’t understand what was upsetting their friend so badly and he couldn’t articulate to them what was wrong.

But he's also the last to act on his feelings after years of self-loathing and his firm commitment to ensuring Emma and Norman survive as a set.

One of the immutable truth's of his universe is the two of them belong together, and he would never do anything to jeopardize that, even if it meant remaining silent about how he felt.

Norman feelings for Emma are evident by his eleventh birthday in the fourth story of the first light novel, "A Gift from the 39th Girl."

He admires her deeply, and she inspires him to do better and strive for the seemingly impossible.

With Ray, Norman always had someone he could show his more prideful and impish side to.

I disagree on the wording a bit here because it's not that Norman doesn't show his true nature to Emma, but that the two of them are seeing different facets of a multifaceted person. Emma sees Norman caring for and helping their siblings all the time, and he's not disingenuous in those actions, even if in his pragmatism his mind immediately jumped to just him, Emma, and Ray escaping after being confronted with the truth. Ray was someone he valued and trusted enough to show aspects of himself that he didn't share with anyone else openly at this point in his life.

But it's after two weeks of hating Ray's guts that Norman discovers the true motivation behind Ray's plan at Grace Field:

Norman reaching the same conclusion is one of humbling, relief, and grief. Since Krone first arrived at the house, he suspected Ray was the traitor. He hated himself for it, but that didn’t change the conclusion he drew, and he spent two weeks stewing around in those negative, vindictive thoughts. This is the only time I believe Norman ever truly hated Ray as a person. His being aloof and withdrawn might have been annoying and frustrating when they were younger, but he still accepted Ray as he was and didn’t hate him. This development, however, was infuriating. Norman would have been willing to sacrifice Ray, like Ray tells him he should have done, if he hadn’t talked to Emma in the flashback from the manga that instead plays out chronologically here. It isn’t stated by him directly how he aspires to be like her, but it does cause him to pause, reevaluate, and take a step back from adhering to his more rigid sense of morality. And then he realizes Ray’s true motivation and is humbled even further. In the final seconds of the song, the distorted crackling cuts out, and we’re left with the last rueful notes of the string instrument as the camera zooms in on a single child’s drawing, one that we know is Eugene’s based on the chapter 31 extra of the Grace Field House art gallery… …A good use of resources to convey to the viewer the same affirmation Ray had given to Norman: whatever his machinations might entail, his motivation has always, always been his two most precious friends. There’s relief in that realization: Ray isn’t out to maliciously harm them, but there’s also grief in how Ray doesn’t see himself as worth saving. A very humbling experience when just a few hours ago Norman had been so willing to throw him away, just like Ray wanted.

This settles something in Norman—that Ray is once again firmly in the "dear friend who must be saved and protected at all costs" category of his mind, reflected in his resolute stare in these two additional frames in episode 11 of season 1:

Ray intends to die. From what he said, he's doing it so you and I don't get killed. He didn't include himself in the numbers. He's not escaping. Ray has decided to die inside this house. He's going to set himself on fire to distract Mom in order to let us run away. That's his entire plan. But I won't allow him to do that. Not ever.

But it also leads him to begin reexamining what exactly that all entails, and he has over a year to pore over those thoughts in Lambda.

By the time he razes the facility to the ground, he recognizes that he cares for Ray in the same way he cares for Emma (@vinokurinner conveys it beautifully through this comic)

Emma's cherished the boys as her best friends her whole life at Grace Field. As they're inspired by her, she in turn is inspired by them.

But there's the beat of pronounced, wide-eyed clarity when Ray mentions Norman's special to both of them.

There's her bold declaration of "I'm never letting you go!" to Norman, firm in her conviction that she'll won't let him sacrifice himself or be separated from them again.

There's the faith that now that she has both of them at her side again, they can achieve the impossible.

(Chapter 180)

And there's the visions she has of them in her dreams after they arrive separately in the human world and she's lost her memories, because not even a god can remove the place they hold in her heart.

182 Days of TPN - Day 119

Chapter 119: “Encounter”

Ever since the escape, the WM pen gave Emma hope, insight and a sense of direction, so seeing her drop something she held onto so tightly now that Norman is back is kinda satisfying I guess? He checks off all those boxes for her sorta. She doesn’t ditch it completely though as we see it used later on before the GF raid.

Goes without saying but the reunion was done so much better in manga. All the emotion from Emma reflecting on their time apart hits so hard and of course seeing all the tears they’re shedding contributes to all that too. Also love how they decided to give this moment a double spread as it helps convey that there’s no longer any space between them. The only thing that would’ve made this scene better (for me) is if Emma had knocked ‘em both down to the floor. I know Norman became taller and probably a bit stronger physically since Lambda, but with the amount of speed and force Emma is putting into that hug I’m surprised he’s still standing.

At least the anime remembered his squishy cheeks.

I know this is a very touching moment but honey, why do you gotta say this so causally?? You’re sure as hell ain’t gonna get it back either!

I guess another reason why the manga handles this whole reunion better is that it includes everyone, not just Emma & Ray. Yeah the anime had the escapees see Norman later at that temple they were hiding at, but it didn’t feel the same. As much as I can appreciate the fullscore trio having their own little moment for themselves, I like seeing everyone’s reactions all at once since there’s a wide range of emotions on display here. Emma also looks so pleased with herself with how large their family has become.

I wish there were more chapters focusing on Norman’s time at Lambda. With how closely he was being watched, I can’t help but wonder how he managed to efficiently communicate with Vincent and Smee and how he orchestrated the whole escape without raising suspicions from the demons and Ratri clan working there. (remember when i said no human (on our side) has killed another? well, i forgot about this whole scheme.. so it seems norman has quite the kill count, even if those were done indirectly by an explosion.)

Few chapters ago I wondered if Hayato & Jin knew to look for the escapees based on seeing Norman’s ID or if he told them both what to look for, and though I believed the latter was the valid reason, I can’t doubt the first option now either since his number is in plain sight. I know he typically hides it when outside paradise when attacking farms and making deals with demons so perhaps that’s why I even questioned it in the first place.

And to absolutely no one’s surprise, of course Ray slapping the hell outta Norman is my favorite. The anime pales in comparison to the sheer amount of power and lowkey rage behind manga!Ray knocking this boy on his ass. The shock on everyone’s face is hilarious as well. At least Norman is a good sport about it.

The rest of this moment is still sweet though, like Norman quoting the letter he left Emma and seeing my boy finally break and have some tears flowing makes me wanna hug him.

To hear the boy who cursed his life and had plans to end it all come around and say he’s happy to be alive is just.. aaahh so so very important!!!!

I do like how the anime gave us a better look at his face with this line though.

And I got nothing against the panel of Emma down below (because it is adorable how she questions her sudden inclusion in the hug), but I love how relieved she is upon hearing such words from Ray.

Stupid is a term of endearment. And I wish I could say we can never let this trio be separated ever again but.. you know. Stuff happens.

You were a demon, but your true identity was masked by all of your human qualities

The only thing that gave you away were your pink eyes, which is how Isabella figured out you weren't a normal child when she examined you after you were found crying in a basket near the gate, luckily before you stavred

But the children, with their active imaginations, just assumed that you were unique

Isabella quickly learned that she'd need to properly manipulate and shape you in order to contain you

The biggest issue was your hunger. It could be satiated by human food, but only for so long. So you'd eat with the rest of the children until a new batch of newborns arrived. Isabella would choose one to feed you. But of course, she didn't want you knowing that you were a demon that needed to eat humans. So she'd cook the meat and throw away the rest, and tell the rest of the children that you needed "special meat.

The unknowing children often complained about your special treatment, and you could only laugh, being none the wiser. If only you knew the truth.

As you grew up, you grew closest to Norman, who never judged you for your differences.

He also liked you due to how good you were at hide and seek. You were the only person he genuinely struggled to find

He knew that you were faster than all the others, but everyone assumed that it was just that. You were fast. But in reality, it was due to your demon species.

And due to your exceptional hearing, you could easily hear when Norman was approaching, and knew just how to avoid him.

This also came in handy for tests. With better hearing, it was easier for you to obtain information. You easily climbed to the top, joining the fullscore trio. You may not be entirely as intelligent, but at least you were pardoned from being shipped out. Sort of. Isabella was still figuring out what to do with you when you came of age.

And come of age you did

The trio didn't want to keep you in the dark

You learned the secret, every last detail. And at first, you assumed that that was all there was to it. But then dinner came around.

The special meat.

You took a bite. It tasted good. But it just didn't go down right when you thought of those dead children, being fed to demons...

Oh god

Were you a demon?

You took a second bite, but it didn't take long for it to come back up

You didn't even have time to excuse yourself from the table. You got up and rushed to the nearest bathroom as fast as you could, leaving the other children confused. And Isabella suspicious.

"Mommy, what happened?"

"Let me go see."

Isabella excused herself politely from the table and calmly followed the direction you went in, walking past door after door until she reached an occupied bathroom. She stood there and listened to the gagging that came from the other side of the door.

She heard the toilet flush, the ripping of a paper towel, shuffling... and then the door opened.

You had been too focused on the feeling of sickness that you were completely caught off guard by the sudden sight of Isabella on the other side of the door. She quickly grabbed you. Too quickly. Her touch was firm to keep you from moving, but perfected to be gentle. Motherly.

The way she looked into your eyes was like a warning. She knew that you knew. But it was masked by a look of concern.

"Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, Mom..."

"Why don't you come down and finish your dinner?"

"No-! No... thank you."

Isabella gave you a look. One you couldn't quite read, but you knew she wasn't happy. Then she smiled. You could now see how fake it was.

"Okay... you're sick. Go rest."

It was more of a command than a suggestion.

Stay in your room and keep your mouth shut.

And you did in fact have your own room, another reason for the other children to be jealous of you. It was to keep you separate from the others in case you suddenly became hungry

You obeyed, glad to be away from that horrid meat. But you couldn't stop thinking about the other children still down there with that awful woman. The woman who willingly kills her own children. Maybe not directly, but she allows it. And she was just as disgusting as those demons

But by hating the demons, were you also hating yourself? Who even were you?

Stuck with nothing but your thoughts, you spiraled

You learned to put up a facade, but your thoughts never ceased.

Not when you and the trio discovered more and more about the secret

Not when you and the trio conjured up a plan of escape

Not when everyone was training

And especially not when Isabella checkmated all four of you.

Norman was being shipped out.

The only person who's always been there for you

Despite your differences

Despite you possibly being a demon

You don't know what came over you. Everything just suddenly turned red

You were vaguely aware of the fact that you had lunged at Isabella. That you were on top of her. That your sharper-than-normal teeth were currently digging into her shoulder.

It's been so long since you've had meat. You could barely even hear her screams

Norman didn't know what to feel as he watched you. Or what used to be you. You looked different now. You were... eating. The woman he considered his mother. As awful as she was, he didn't want her to die. And he knew that deep down, you didn't either.

Reality suddenly returned when you felt hands on you, tugging you off of a bleeding Isabella. You froze as you stared at what you've done. The damage wasn't lethal, but you sunk your teeth pretty deep into the skin that connected her neck and shoulder. It would take a while to fully heal.

You turned your head towards Norman, the two of you simply staring at each other for a moment.

You, seeing your best friend staring at you with a fearful expression despite holding you in his arms

And him staring right back, seeing your lips dripping in blood and your look of remorse.

All you could do was burst into tears, and all Norman could do was hold you closer.

You screamed and sobbed, letting out all of the pain you've been feeling since you first learned the truth of this awful place.

And Isabella realized something as she watched.

She was putting her children in pain.

This is how far they'd go to leave this place, to avenge their lost siblings.

And Isabella began to think of a plan of her own...
