Summary:

A series of vignettes about the relationship between Maes and Gracia, from her perspective: Gracia's family disapproving of the relationship and Maes and Gracia pursue it anyway; the pain of separation as he goes off to war; Maes' PTSD when he comes back, and Gracia seeing him hurt but unable to fix it for him; the blissful moments in their young family interrupted by work phone calls and Gracia's disquiet as she sees Maes' shift in personality between home and work; the funeral; years and years later as Elycia asks about her father and wants to know more about him and how Gracia loves to tell her but also misses him so much.

1. my birds! They're being extra snuggly today and I love them

2. painting (been on a fanart kick and I absolutely owe it all to royai. I need to draw them some more lol but I do have a few ideas sketched out for some bigger illustrations)

3. we're having an actual spring where I live! (it usually just feels like summer year-round) The weather has been really nice and there are so many wildflowers blooming. The hills behind my house are so beautiful rn

4. I'm heading to the renaissance faire in a few weeks and I can't wait to go! If I'm not too lazy I'll finish up the cosplay I've been sewing but either way it will be really fun

5. reading! this sounds kind of silly but over the past few years I haven't been able to read as much as I used to. I'm finally getting back into the habit of reading just for fun (and maybe coming out of a really long depression 😅) It feels great to be reading again

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

Oh, my. Okay let's try this, looking at all my fics and original stuff.

Themes : overall I write a lot of angst - with or without happy ending (I'd say 90% with happy ending but uh, I have written Ripper Street fics and uh. Misery all over, thanks), romance (especially now that I fell into Royai but really there's almost always a couple at the center of what I write so), family - either blood or found and dysfunctional or not (team Mustang is found family, fight me). Now for the funny part : death, loss and grief, war (Royai of course brings that and there's a lot of war stuff coming, but I do have war AUs already lying around. And a couple of soldiers with PTSD in Ripper Street stuff, I'm sorry Drake), aaaand I don't know if I'm very gore or not but I tend to like gory stuff so, you're warned.

Feels : look at this perfectly sane character. Now they have anxiety. (Wonder why 🙃). Lots of others but yeah I tend to get rid of my own anxiety this way. (RIZA. RIZA I AM SORRY don't worry Roy gets some too).

Scenes : I'm a sucker for dialogue, so expect lots and lots of dialogue scenes (actual funny ones! I do make humor sometimes!). Sometimes I feel bad because I feel most of my fics are just talking heads but I'm having fun so I guess that's just the point of it, you know.

🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

Ow, though question. I don't know. Let's say right now I'm knee deep into one fic that is already over 32K and is not even reaching its (not very planned) middle so I guess it counts as a wild ride?

This and also writing four hands on another fic with @qs63 which is very new to me and an absolute blast. 😃😘

I wasn’t sure if writing ot3 counted as writing M/M 🤔 But it included Jean/Roy so i guess it did.

An old account is actually exciting thing (to me). I have an account on diaries (smth like LiveJournal) and I used it for years because I followed this woman - I started following for cherik fic but stayed bc she is just fascinating. So I read about her moving, about her changing jobs, etc. And last year she published an original novel! I just had to get it. It’s so exciting to see how someone’s hobby and dreams materialise.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

probably and made Hell grant what Love did seek, my plot focused fugio fic that i wrote back in july. i cannot believe it has been so long since i wrote this but i did so much thinking on this one. i really do love how it came out, and i almost want to expand on it and write another chapter because i am so proud of it and i enjoyed writing it SO much.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

how little i wrote! i knew going into this year i would be very busy but i did not think i would write so little. i know this sounds weird but i really thought i was going to write so much more. i'm not disappointed at all, i think what i wrote was good, but i'm just surprised!

All of the following are from my WIP that is currently titled The Bookshelf. It's set in the aftermath of my other story, The Counteroffer.

Mustang was, after all, basking in the afterglow of a tremendous political victory, years in the making. But the young Fuhrer appeared as if he were fresh from a long vacation, not in his first week after assuming the top office in a nation still burdened by decades of corruption. 

On the other side of her office, Mustang has built Captain Hawkeye a veritable library. Every available bit of wall space is occupied by floor-to-ceiling shelves, already brimming with tomes.

Unlike the rest of them, she wears street clothes. A white collared button-up shirt tucked into a brown tweed pencil skirt. Her blonde hair is down and swept over one shoulder, instead of up in its usual efficient style. 

Strange, Breda thinks, pressing his lips into a firm line. He’ll ask Captain Hawkeye about it the next chance he gets.

“Explain.” The singular word is sharp as a blade. Maybe it isn’t wise of him to take such an accusatory tone with his superior - the leader of this whole damn country - but at this moment, Breda can’t bring himself to care.

i am working on an original piece! everything i've shared so far (snippets, aes, vibes) can be found in this tag here, #novel 2023

it all started when i had a Wee Thought and whipped up this... and saw this picture.......

and 45k words later, i'm in deep hahahaha

its a fantasy piece! we have our loveable two main characters, and loveable secondary characters as well! there's ailsa (ale-sa) and ruaraidh (roo-ray), eilidh (eh-lay) and arran, all gaelic/scottish names. i had to represent!

ailsa and eilidh are two sisters, both blessed with magic. ailsa had a "sure shot" kind of magic (i just really wanted to give her a bow and arrow lmao) and eilidh has "seer" magic. arran is our healer boi and is a golden retriever and he and eilidh are v much in love they're both v sweet. and ruaraidh is our mysterious little wild card who appears when he needs some help - and it just so happens he stumbles upon our trio! what are the chances of that!!

they go on their adventure. there's determination, there's feels, big and small, there's (hopefully 🙈) cosy vibes with some stakes. i have yet to create a clear and concise summary, so if you (or anyone!) would like to hear it, i'd be happy to whip something up!

1, 17 and 30 for the wrapped asks 🥰

1 How many words have you written this year? 13678. That's not much but it's a honest work 😂 I wrote mostly in the first half of the year. Then at some point i became too exhausted to write or read. Hope I'll be more consistent next year.

17 Your favorite character to write this year? This year i paid more attention to Jean Havoc's pov so that's him 🥰

30 Biggest surprise while writing this year? How difficult it is to write in present tense 😂 It was worth the try but oh gosh i spent so much time rereading the piece, making sure that the verbs have the right form. Still not sure if I succeeded. Jokes aside, the other honest surprise was the urge to write for other pairings. And it was strong enough that i even completed some of those works!
