NewYork TRIP #2

今回、ニューヨークtripの個人的なイベントとして、スニーカー、D J 、バスケットボーラー、敬愛するBobito Garciaが主催する

Full Court 21 World Final in New York

に行ってきました。

日本から来た選手はyukke

実はyukkeは予定の飛行機が遅れ、本来は前日の夜中に現地NYに着くのが試合当日の午前中に着いていた。

試合当日、Queensのラガーディアに迎えに行き、無事にyukkeとWHAT'S UPしてマンハッタンのホテルへ直行した。

会った時はそこまで疲れた様子では無かったが、相当タフな状況からスタートしたんじゃないかと思う。

ホテルでのチェックインと準備を済ませ、早速west 99stのGOAT Parkへ向かい、近辺のアジアンレストランで食事をとることに。

俺が頼んだエビ焼きそばの海老がコンディション悪くてまじで吐きそうになったのを反面に、YUkkeは美味しくビーフを食べてました。

会場を着いて、知り合いにもwhat's upし、試合開始までチルタイム。

LAのチャンピオンで来てたJordanが俺らに一番気さくに声をかけてくれていたかも。

日本予選で全部入っていたらしいフリースローが全部外れていて、何本かシュートをmakeしていたけど点数が稼げず予選&敗者復活も含めて敗退。

全体の感情としては、yukkeも自分も過去にS.H.Uの一員として活動（年代は違う）していた時期があってまさか初めて会えたのがニューヨークだったのがs.h.u streetの引き寄せの縁を感じた。

day offは時間があるかぎり色々な場所に連れて行ったが、バスケ以外に興味がないと言い切る人間で、相変わらずs.h.uを噛んでるやつは面白い。

なんか宮城でやるみたいだから常に楽しみな人間です。

明日は国立市の流域下水公園プレイグラウンドにて、FULL COURT 21 JAPAN FINALというイベントが朝10時から開催されます。

その中のエキシビジョンマッチで、Boogies School TokyoからMasa, Kon. Saitama校から、Shu, Atsuya and Kaitoが今回は出場します。

日頃練習している成果を感じたことのない環境の中で楽しみながら思う存分出しましょう。

コート上の誰よりも熱く。

そして明日、3月10日に行われるBリーグのアルバルク東京対サンロッカーズ渋谷の試合のハーフタイムショーにKing Kai（Team Kanagawa）とKanta Sugaya (Team Tokyo)が出場します。

2017 NYC CHAMP PHILIP THOMAS WILL DEFEND TITLE

2017 Full Court 21 NYC Champ Philip Thomas aka “The Af-Am Professor” won the July 24 Qualifier in an intense match that featured every past NYC champ including Matt Thomas (2013 & 2016), Tyson Hartnett (2014), and Jonathan Guerrero (2015).  Thomas will defend his title August 21 at the legendary Goat aka Rock Steady Park. Should the 6′2″ guard repeat, he’ll represent the five boroughs in the All World Final the same evening.

My NY dad aka Bobbito Garcia just stayed 2 days in Tokyo. We had a chance to learn NYC basketball history from him! Was such a cool time. And we just had a lunch together before his flight. Safe flight, Bob! See you soon! 俺のNYの父さん、ボビートが日本に2日間だけ来た。その短い間にみんなで彼からバスケの歴史のついて聞ける機会があって色々教えて貰った。みんなにとって素敵な時間になったと思う。 今日もさっきまで昼飯一緒に食べて空港に向かっていった。また長いフライト頑張って。 またすぐに！

A few weeks ago I took part in @fullcourt21ca , the world’s most unique basketball tournament with the expectation that I would push my skills and fitness to their limits. I did. You don’t have a team to rely on. It’s you against 5 other players who want the ball at all costs. My body hurt for 2 weeks after and I learned a lot about what parts of my game and conditioning need work! The funny thing is that my mind was actually challenged as much or more than my body and skills. For most of the tournament, my body was mad at me for making it work that hard in the hot sun. It wanted me to go home. It and many others told me I was too old to play. When I got the ball, my body didn’t want to protect it. It said: “give the ball to the first person who’s too aggressive on defence”(and sometimes I listened to it). But at some point, I told my body to fuck off. I dug in, tried to ignore that negative voice in my head and played hard til the end. I didn’t win the competition, but I defeated myself so I’ll take it.
