When my teachers ask the class, “How are you today?” I can hardly resist the urge to reply, “Full of beans and ready for cheese, [sir/ma’am/xer/professor].”
They have yet to provide a reaction. As I am quiet, I doubt they hear me. I shall provide updates as to their reactions as this continues.

(Not So) Silent Night
A/N: This is all @auripigmentum‘s fault. She sent me a screenshot of a German personal ad, and went, "Imagine Stiles and Peter." And I did imagine. And then I wrote. Because I'm weak. Damn you!
“Santa Claus, 42, looking for a sweet angel, 18+, with big or small Christmas ornaments for not so silent nights together. Tree stand available and ready. No Santa hat, no action.”
Several people swivel around to glare at Stiles, but, really, he can’t be held responsible for this. Sure, a waiting room isn’t the best place to suddenly burst out laughing, but it’s totally the fault of whoever laid out the latest issue of Bella Diva. It’s not like Stiles normally makes a habit of buying and reading women’s magazines.
Apart from the occasional Cosmo. The quizzes are always hilarious.
Once the pregnant woman across from him has gone back to scrolling on her tablet, and the two older ladies in the corner have started talking again, Stiles sneaks a quick picture of the personal ad with his phone. He’s curious what kind of guy would put something like this out there for anyone to see, and Lydia and Ally will definitely get a kick out of it.
He forgets about the whole thing when his dad steps out of the doctor’s office, jumping up to demand a detailed update. His dad rolls his eyes, and grabs Stiles’ by the back of the neck to steer him outside, but dutifully lists Doctor Yukimura’s findings.
They go out for burgers—actual meat, but no bacon or cheese, because his dad’s cholesterol is down, but not down that much—before his dad has to head back to the station, and Stiles has to go home to change for his shift at the Beacon Bean. Working at a coffee shop is about as terrible as Stiles had always imagined it to be, but it pays well as far as summer jobs go, and he gets to drink as much free coffee as his stomach can stand, so it could be worse.
The after dinner rush is brutal, as usual on a Friday, but things calm down by nine, and get downright boring after eleven. There are a few high schoolers still hanging around, someone who looks hungover already sitting at the bar, a few business people with their laptops and serious expressions scattered around, and a few women getting ready for a night out in the booth in the corner.
No one has ordered anything in over half an hour. Stiles entertains himself by spamming Scott over text, but gets ditched the moment Kira arrives home. He sends Scott four whole rows of grumpy emojis, then opens his pictures to find something to annoy Isaac with. He snorts when he comes across the ad again. It gets posted in their group chat, then he saves the number that came with it in his contacts under Creepy Santa Guy. After a moment of hesitantly chewing his lower lip, he hits call.
Stiles and boredom have, historically, never been a good match. And what’s the worst that could happen, anyway?
Watch out for the break. Or read the rest of it on my [AO3].
It only rings twice before a smooth, slightly harried voice demands, “Yes?”
Only, it’s not just coming through the speaker, but also from the armchair across the room. Stiles’ eyes widen when he realises what’s happening, and he fumbles with his phone to hang up, nearly dropping it in the process.
The movement’s enough to get Creepy Santa Guy’s attention. He lowers his own phone, blinks once, startled, then looks over at Stiles, and raises a pointed eyebrow.
“Shit,” Stiles says.
The guy’s second eyebrow joins his first, and really, shit. Stiles should probably do some damage control. He’s already gotten two reprimands this month, and sure, they were both from their famously bitchy regular—one because his coffee wasn’t hot enough anymore after he added a shitload of milk too it, and the other because Stiles was too chatty early in the morning—but this guy looks like the sort of person who could actually get Stiles in trouble.
Rich, definitely, going by the fancy three-piece suit. Intense blue eyes, perfectly styled hair, thick, gorgeous neck, nice hands, expensive briefcase. Probably a lawyer.
So, of course, the thing Stiles blurts out after walking over to him with an apology cupcake is, “You’re not what I expected.”
The guy leans back in his armchair, and crosses his legs, all casual, looking amused. “Oh?”
“Yeah,” Stiles says, waving a hand at the guy’s—at his everything. “I mean, no offence, but I was thinking more of a, like, midlife crisis look?”
That makes the guy purse his lips. “And why would that be?”
“Well, you know.” Stiles shrugs, but plops down in the chair across from the guy. It’s not like he has anything better to do, and this has proven to be way more interesting than cleaning cups or restocking the teas so far. “Those are usually the people who go for ads like that. And, dude, come on, you have to admit it was kind of sleazy.”
And that’s putting it nicely, honestly.
“What ad?” the guy growls—actually growls, and Stiles’ absolutely does not shiver at the sound, nope—leaning forward, and narrowing his eyes at Stiles.
“Your ad?” When the guy just keeps looking at Stiles, uncomprehending, Stiles fishes out his phone, opening the picture, and slides it across the table towards him. “This ad?”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” the guy mutters, pinching the bridge of his nose. He reaches for his own phone with an apologetic, “Just a moment, please.”
When whoever he’s calling answers, all the guy says is, “You are dead to me, Cora,” and Stiles just about hears some gleeful cackling before the guy ends the call.
Stiles winces in sympathy. “Angry ex?”
“Meddling niece,” the guy says, then corrects, “Well, nieces. And a nephew.” He huffs, and rolls his eyes, but he sounds more fond than pissed. “Family.”
“I sense a story there,” Stiles prompts, waggling his eyebrows. He leans back in his chair, and gestures around the shop, now even more empty. “And I’ve got time.”
The guy takes a bite of his cupcake, studying Stiles as he chews slowly. “My sister’s kids. They’ve somehow gotten it into their heads that I need to settle down, and have been trying to set me up for months now.”
Stiles shoots a sceptical look at the picture of the ad still displayed on his phone. The guy laughs, and licks some icing from his lips, then smirks when he catches Stiles staring.
“I assume they’ve grown tired of my lack of cooperation, and decided to get creative,” he says. Then, sighing mock wistfully, he adds, “At least some of the dick pics I got when they secretly installed Grindr on my phone were actually usable.”
“Oh my god,” Stiles chokes out through his surprised laughter.
The guy grins, eyes crinkling, and holds out his hand. “Peter Hale. It’s a pleasure to meet you,” he glances down at Stiles’ badge, “Stiles. At least they got my type right.”
Stiles can actually feel his cheeks heat. “I don’t know why your family thinks you need help picking up.”
Peter strokes his thumb over the back of Stiles’ hand, humming softly, mouth quirked mischievously. His voice is low, almost predatory when he asks, “When does your shift end?”
Liam, displaying some impeccable timing, walks through the door right then. Stiles has to clear his throat, which makes Peter chuckle, all self-satisfied, before he manages to say, “As soon as he’s settled in.”
“Well, then.” Peter lets go of Stiles’ hand and gets up, picking up his laptop to shove it into his briefcase. “I’m parked around the corner.”
With that, and a smile full of promise, he turns around, and leaves.
* * *
Later, draped across Peter’s chest, still panting, sweaty and sticky, and sore in all the right places, Stiles slurs, “I’ll sit on your lap any time you want.”
“Ho ho ho,” Peter says, deadpan, then proceeds to kiss the dumb laughter right out of Stiles’ mouth.

Taylor Swift details past eating disorder in 'Miss Americana'
When it comes to pop stars, Taylor Swift isn’t the most forthcoming. While her fans love to read into her every song lyric, she never actually reveals who her music is about. Unlike Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga, her social media presence is pretty demure, mostly reserved for photos of her cats and promotional material. So when it was announced that Swift had agreed to be the subject of a new Netflix documentary, we couldn’t wait to see what — if any — candid details she’d disclose in “Miss Americana,” which begins streaming Jan. 31 on Netflix. We went to the Sundance Film Festival premiere of the movie on Thursday, and took notes on all the doc’s biggest revelations. 1. She struggled with an eating disorder In New York City, the outside of Swift’s apartment — her “front yard,” as she calls it — is permanently surrounded by paparazzi ready to snap photos of her to sell to tabloids. But in “Miss Americana,” the singer acknowledges that she’ll no longer look at the images posted of her online daily. “I tend to get triggered by something — whether it’s a picture of me where I feel like my tummy looked too big, or someone said that I looked pregnant or something — and that will trigger me to just starve a little bit. Just stop eating.” Swift goes on to reveal that she struggled with an eating disorder for years, often feeling as if she was going to pass out during her concerts. She made a list of everything she put in her mouth each day, exercised constantly and got down to a size double zero. (She’s now a size six, she says.) “I would have defended it to anybody who said ‘I’m concerned about you,’” she says. “I don’t think you know you’re doing that when you’re doing it gradually. There’s always some standard of beauty that you’re not meeting. Because if you’re thin enough, then you don’t have that ass that everybody wants, but if you have enough weight on you to have an ass, then your stomach isn’t flat enough,” she says. “It’s all just impossible.” Now, whenever she has the urge to judge her body harshly, she practices positive self-talk: “Nope. We don’t do that anymore. We do not do that anymore because it’s better to think you look fat than to look sick.”

She wishes she’d spoken out against Donald Trump during the 2016 election After years of keeping her political beliefs to herself for fear of isolating her fan base, Swift first voiced support for a candidate during the 2018 midterms. The film shows her weighing whether or not to speak out against Republican Senate Candidate Marsha Blackburn, and those closest to her fret that it will put her in physical danger. During a heated family discussion, her father points out that old-school performers like Bing Crosby and Bob Hope never talked about politics. Swift, her eyes filling with tears, tells him she’s “sad” she didn’t publicly oppose Trump two years ago. “But I can’t change that,” she says. “I need to do this. I need you to, dad, to forgive me for doing it — because I’m doing it.” Just as she’s about to press send on an Instagram post about Blackburn, her team is still concerned about the impact. Her publicist warns Swift that “the president could come after you.” “ that,” Swift replies. “I don’t care.” 3. She used to live her life to be liked As a kid, Swift says, she kept stacks of journals. But she didn’t just write in them with sparkly gel pens. At one point, she used an actual brass quill and ink. And what did she use the antiquated writing tool for? To write about her “moral code” — “the need to be thought of as good.” “It was all I wrote about. It was all I wanted,” she admits in the movie. “It was the complete and total belief system I subscribed to as a kid.” She lived for “pats on the head,” she says — any praise that she was doing a good job on her homework or her songwriting. She only found fulfillment through external approval, and subsequently became “the person who everyone wanted me to be.” That’s why public criticism — She’s annoying! She’s gone through so many boyfriends! She’s only friends with models! — has been difficult for her to overcome. “When people decided I was wicked and evil and conniving and not a good person, that was the one that I couldn’t really bounce back from,” she says, “because my whole life was centered around it.”

Her sexual assault court battle changed her irrevocably In 2015, Colorado disc jockey David Mueller sued Swift, claiming he lost his radio station job after her security team accused him of groping the singer. Swift countersued, alleging assault and detailing the inappropriate touching. She won and was awarded the amount she sought: $1 in damages. But the emotional impact the verdict had on her was far more consequential. “I was unspeakably and unchangeably different after the sexual assault trial,” Swift says in the film. “No man, or organization, or my family, will ever understand what that was like.” Despite winning the case, Swift said she didn’t feel any sense of victory “because the process is so dehumanizing.” And in her situation, she had seven witnesses and a photo backing up her claim. “What happens when you get raped and it’s your word against his?” she asks. 5. She was attracted to Joe Alwyn because of his ‘wonderful, normal, balanced kind of life’ Swift has dated a handful of famous men — Jake Gyllenhaal, Harry Styles, Tom Hiddleston — who have also made their way into her music. But when she started dating actor Joe Alwyn in late 2016, she liked that he had more of a “wonderful, normal, balanced kind of life.” His vibe put her at ease during a difficult time in her life, she said, when she was facing Kanye West-fueled backlash. (Remember the “I made that bitch famous” line from his 2016 jam “Famous”? Yeah, it was about her.) Alwyn barely appears in the documentary, though. At one point, she kisses his hand during a car ride. She also runs into his arms after a concert, and the couple sweetly drape their arms over each other’s shoulders as they wander around backstage. 6. She didn’t try a burrito until she was 26 Just as she’s about to turn 29, Swift sits in the record studio reflecting on what the age signifies. There’s a part of her, she admits, that isn’t ready to have kids — for “all this grown up stuff.” Heck, she points out, she just tried a burrito for the first time two years ago. Which means that Taylor Swift did not eat a wondrous mix of meat, cheese, beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream until she was apparently 26 years old. Process that. 7. She’s not ready for kids yet While Swift takes excellent care of her feline children — she even feeds one at her dinner table as she eats alongside the animal — she isn’t ready for kids of her own just yet. At 29, she says, part of her feels “57 years old” — but another part is “definitely not ready to have kids.” Case in point? She recalls visiting a friend who just had a baby and hearing how the newborn’s schedule consists of sleeping, eating, and being changed. Swift’s response? “So it’s like a Tamagotchi,” she says with a smile. Read More Read the full article

You can get all the protein you need from a varied plant-based diet. Protein is found in greens, veggies, beans, grains, nuts & seeds, avocados and so on. And there is no need to consume these foods in any special combination. – Sharon Gannon • He created the flavors! He created the colors. He created it all, and he did it all out of the overflow of his perfections. It’s not like he was thinking, ‘Oh, I’ve got some fajita flavoring over here. I know: let’s put it on the cow and the chicken.’ He created the avocado to have a certain flavor; he created the skirt steak, the fillet, and the tenderloin to have certain flavors. That was God’s doing. So every aspect of creation, from the largest galaxy to the tiniest burst of flavor in food or drink or seasoning, radiates the goodness of God. – Matt Chandler • How many fingers am I holding up?” he inquired. Lucille regarded him blearily and said, “Avocado. – Sarah Rees Brennan • I do love my avocados, which are great for the skin. I eat pretty healthfully. – Mary-Louise Parker • I don’t like to leave what I’m going to eat in other people’s hands, so I’ll pack my own lunch. I chop up a salad with lots of greens – everything from spinach, baby spinach, arugula, cucumber, avocado, radish, cauliflower, and green olives to parsley and cilantro, all chopped really fine – with a piece of wild salmon. I even bring my own tea in a Thermos. – Miranda Kerr • I don’t think I’ve ever bench-pressed anything in my life. Until about two years ago I swam a mile almost every day. Then I stopped and I lost a lot of weight because my appetite was less. I’m not skinny now – I’m spindly. I eat an extremely simple diet – mostly salmon, avocado, feta cheese, chicken, eggs, peanut butter, blueberries, and quinoa. – Nick Antosca • I feel old and vulnerable. I now realise that I knew nothing and know nothing, but back when my career was beginning, I thought I was a man when, in fact, I was a dewy-eyed boy who’d not seen an avocado or eaten a tomato. – James Nesbitt • I have this wonderful personal chef who sources and stocks all my organic produce and I basically live on five smoothies a day. I’m totally vegan. I blend this green concoction with kale, cucumber, broccoli, string beans, avocado. My protein comes from protein powder. There is absolutely no milk, butter, cheese. – Larry Hagman • I love things that are indescribable, like the taste of an avocado or the smell of a gardenia. – Barbra Streisand • I normally don’t love green juices, but Body & Eden makes theirs tasty by blending ingredients like avocado and banana with the usual suspects like kale and spinach. Delicious as they are, they’re low calorie, and the drink names are catchy: I Have Balance, I Have Energy, and my favorite, I Have Calm. – Gayle King • I see my large nose, like half an avocado. I broke it falling downstairs when I was six, and it now resembles a large blob of play-dough. – Arthur Smith • I spent years working in low-budget horror films. When you’ve done ‘Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death,’ you can handle anything! – Adrienne Barbeau • I suppose there are people who can pass up free guacamole, but they’re either allergic to avocado or too joyless to live. – Frank Bruni • I think a lot of education has to be involved. If they would have alternative items, so that, say, for a dollar more, you can get breakfast tacos stuffed with egg whites, and olive oil, and avocado; not guacamole, because they put the salt in it. Just ask for fresh avocado slices, and you could have that. – Sandra Cisneros • I use a lot of spices, fresh veggies and fruit, extra virgin olive oil, nuts, avocado, soybeans and organic ingredients as often as possible. We need fat in our diets and using the healthier fats is key. – Todd English • I use color as my chief guide. But I always squeeze an avocado – you want the fruit to feel close to the skin. If you can feel a separation, the avocado is past its prime. The avocado should have a little give, but not much. – Dorie Greenspan • I’d go to the farmers’ market in Santa Barbara, and I’d put out my guitar case, and I’d test out these little ditty songs that I would write, and I would get a couple of avocados, a bag of pistachios, and, like, fifteen bucks. That was a lot of money for me. – Katy Perry • If we got an educational program going, we could tell people, “Instead of butter, use avocado.” That’s something we eat, it has the good fat, and it has a good texture, and it tastes better. Just imagine if you substituted that. Or if we switched to olive oil, the extra virgin olive oil, we could still have our taquitos, but put a little oil on them and put them in the oven and bake them. – Sandra Cisneros • If you have nothing but love for your avocados, and you take joy in turning them into guacamole, all you need is someone to share it with. – Jason Mraz • Just to have my kids be in the sun every day-picking avocados, going for a swim, she says. “Even for two years or something, and come back when they go to senior school.” Just what kids want to do, pick avocados. Also: senior school? – Gwyneth Paltrow • The avocado is a food without rival among the fruits, the veritable fruit of paradise – David Fairchild • The California I knew, old rancho California, is gone. It just doesn’t exist, except maybe in little pockets. I lived on the edge of the Mojave Desert, an area that used to be farm country. There were all these fresh-produce stands with avocados and date palms. You could get a dozen artichokes for a buck or something. Totally wiped out now. – Sam Shepard • The cucumber and the tomato are both fruit; the avocado is a nut. To assist with the dietary requirements of vegetarians, on the first Tuesday of the month a chicken is officially a vegetable. – Jasper Fforde • The real secret to guacamole is that you use exactly the elements that you need, which is cilantro, onion, tomato, and jalapenos. And, of course, avocado. – Demian Bichir • This is my breakfast: Two poached eggs, turkey bacon, and a half avocado. The yolks in a poached egg are alkalizing. Avocados are a great source of fat and vitamin E; great for your skin. Its super light and not too heavy. Sometimes I like a little sweet as well, so I have a cup of plain yogurt with blueberries. – April Bowlby • Three days a week and Im home at the ranch in Fallbrook with my avocados. – Martin Milner • We don’t care if these girls want to eat their men. That’s the Piranha Man’s problem. We just want the avocados. – J. F. Lawton • We’re [Avocado League] trying to just urge people to add avocado into their diet. It’s healthy and full of vitamins and minerals. – Jennie Finch • What peaches and what penumbras! Whole families shopping at night! Aisles full of husbands! Wives in the avocados, babies in the tomatoes!–and you, Garcia Lorca, what were you doing down by the watermelons? – Allen Ginsberg • You can’t sow an apple seed and expect to get an avocado tree. The consequences of your life are sown in what you do and how you behave. – Tom Shadyac

How to Choose the Best SIBO Diet to Heal
SIBO diet is a combination the SCD diets and low FODMAPs. This restrictive diet may help relieve more symptoms in some people. Read this post to learn more about SIBO diet and all the food categories.
How to Choose the Best SIBO Diet—Keto, AIP, Low FODMAP & Beyond
Let food be thy medicine…especially when it comes to your SIBO diet. Here’s an overview of the best diets for treating SIBO—Keto, AIP, low FODMAP included—and a 3-step approach for choosing the best SIBO diet for your individual needs.
SIBO 101
SIBO, or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, is a condition, affecting the small intestine, wherein bacteria that normally grow in other parts of the gut start growing in the small intestine.
SIBO Symptoms
Common symptoms include:
bloating after meals
loose stools
IBS
constipation
food intolerances
nutrient deficiencies (like anemia, brittle nails and hair, pale skin, cold hands or feet).
However, it’s important to be aware that SIBO can also manifest as many non-gut-related symptoms (such as skin conditions, high cholesterol markers, poor immune function, allergies (seasonal), blood sugar or hormone imbalances, and a slow metabolism).
Because of this, SIBO often goes under the radar in traditional healthcare settings.
SIBO Diagnosis
SIBO is currently diagnosed through both:
An analysis of your signs and symptoms
At-home breath testing
Currently, an at home lactulose or glucose breath test is the gold standard. Although its not perfect and some cases SIBO may still be missed, this test is the best measure for assessing whether or not you have abnormal amounts of hydrogen or methane gas in your body (related to abnormal growth of gut bacteria).
Stool testing, organic acids urine testing (OATS) and inflammatory blood markers are also helpful test tools that may contribute to your clinical picture. Under the guidance of a trained functional medicine provider or other knowledgable practitioner, you can better determine whether or not you have the condition.
5 Essentials for SIBO Treatment
So what to do if you’ve been diagnosed with SIBO?!
Successful SIBO treatment involves a five-pronged approach including:
Proper Diagnosis & Testing Breath testing and/or working with a skilled clinician experienced in assessing and diagnosing SIBO.
Lifestyle Factors Addressing stress and lifestyle factors to promote SIBO healing, such as getting enough sleep and proper exercise—not too much, but not too little.
Appropriate Supplementation & Anti-microbial Treatment Beyond probiotics and pre-biotics, a supplement protocol and/or prescribed SIBO medication by your doctor that helps decrease the overgrowth of bacteria is essential. (Fun fact: studies show that herbal anti-microbial treatment can be just as effective, if not more, than prescription medications) (1).
Nutrient-Dense, SIBO-Reduction Diet Foods that help decrease your SIBO symptoms, and support gut healing.
Re-testing & Reestablishing a Healthy Gut Flora After SIBO is eradicated, a “plan of attack” to both re-assess if your treatment worked, and gameplan for adding back in a balance of healthy gut bacteria.
While there is NO one-size-fits-all treatment protocol for kicking SIBO to the curb, these 5 essentials are “non-negotiables” for kicking SIBO to the curb.
The best part?
SIBO healing and the remission of your symptoms is greatly within your own control!
In fact, there is no question that one of the greatest influences in your SIBO healing is what you are feeding your gut bugs (i.e. your SIBO diet).  (In other words: You cannot supplement your way out of a poor diet).
Thus, a nutrition plan that works for your body’s unique needs is ESSENTIAL to not only feeling good, but helping your total SIBO protocol work for you.
SIBO Diet Recommendations
The 4 most popular dietary recommendations for treating SIBO are:
The “Low Fermentation Diet”
The Low FODMAP Diet http://atxwoman.com/fodmap-diet/
Specific Carbohydrate Diet
Elemental Diet
Generally, the Low-FODMAP, Low Fermentation and/or Specific Carbohydrate Diets have helped many people over the years improve their symptoms. Then you have the Elemental Diet—more of a “last resort” 2-week diet, consisting of drinking an elemental formula. Elemental formulas are pre-digested, easily absorbed forms of nutrients to help starve gut bacteria.
All four of these SIBO diets are very similar, however, in that they restrict carbohydrates—specifically“fermentable fibers” and sugars that your gut bacteria LOVE to feast on (i.e. carbohydrates).
While certain foods may be “allowed” on one program, but not the other, generally the top foods to eliminate include:
SIBO Diet Foods to Eliminate
Grains (breads, pastas, rice)
Starches (potato, sweet potato, yucca, taro)
Beans, Soy & Peas
Industrial Seed Oils (sunflower, grapeseed, cottonseed, soybean, canola)
Dairy (cheese, milk)
Sugar & Sweeteners (agave, honey, corn syrup, sweeteners)
Alcohol
Corn
Cruciferous Veggies (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts)
Garlic
Onion
Many fruits (apples, cherries, pears, bananas, watermelon, plums, nectarines, mangos, peach, pears)
Mushrooms
For some: Avocado, Coconut
The result? SIBO symptom relief from gut upset that typically happens when you eat a sweet potato, Brussels sprouts or quinoa—at least in the short term.
The Problem with SIBO Diet Recommendations
The research is still out as to whether these diets help people improve in the long term—particularly once you’ve started a SIBO treatment protocol (supplements or medication).
While all 3 SIBO diets are safe and can be helpful for gut issues like eliminating bloating, gas and IBS, a problem many people run into with these approaches is HOW and WHEN to reintroduce eliminated foods (if at all)—often discovering that their SIBO symptoms soon return when carbohydrates are allowed back in to the diet.
“Will I ever be able to eat broccoli (or rice, or sweet potatoes, or apples) again?!” They cry.
Unfortunately, long-term prebiotic fiber (carb) and FODMAP restriction can also backfire—since it not only decreases unhealthy bacteria, but healthy gut bacteria too.
So what should you do?!
Mix and match!
Here are 6 novel (no-long-term-restrictive) SIBO diet approaches for healing your gut (and SIBO) for good— taking the most effective strategies from various gut-healing diets, and forming them together—all in one.
The ultimate goal? Least restrictive diet as possible—all within the context of nutrient-dense foods of course (with the occasional Friday night pizza night if you must).
6 Non-Restrictive SIBO Diet Approaches
Start with Establishing a Real Food Base Simply put: Eat real food—as close to its natural state as possible. If it didn’t grow on the land, roam the earth, or swim in the sea, it’s not real food.  Real food includes:
Meats, poultry and fish.
Healthy fats.
Veggies & Fruits
Minimal starch
No added sugar
Lots of clean, filtered water
Supporting local, responsible producers and organic as much as possible
Phase 1: Short-Term Low Carb Diet (14-30 Days) Once you realize what “real food” is, you’re now ready to attack your SIBO diet in phases—starting with a lower carb or lower FODMAP reset. One consideration many people find short-term effectiveness from as a “therapeutic diet” is the ketogenic diet—a popular low carb (or “very low carb”) approach to eating that includes plenty of nutrient-dense healthy fats (ghee, coconut oil, coconut butter, olive oil, avocado, raw nuts/seeds), moderate amounts of organic protein, and 20-grams of “net carbs” or less per day. Many people with SIBO symptoms, find that a short-term break from many of the gut-bacteria-feeding foods (i.e. carbs and sugars found in carbs) can be a great relief from their SIBO symptoms while they get their personal SIBO treatment protocol (supplement supports and lifestyle factors) in place. Call it “keto,” “low carb,” or yes, “low FODMAP” or “specific carbohydrate diet,” the bottom line here is to confirm that for a short term (2-4 weeks), going “low carb” can be effective. The key for the effectiveness of these “low carb” approaches however is to ensure you are eating ENOUGH.  A common roadblock SIBO sufferers run into is unwanted weight loss, low energy and frail health due to the malabsorption of nutrients and IBS symptoms. Hence, reason why a keto approach may be more effective for curbing SIBO symptoms (in lieu of just going “low FODMAP” or “low carb) is that the emphasis on healthy fats can help boost energy stores (given your gallbladder and liver are healthy and able to digest these fats in the first place).Check out the sample SIBO kickstart meal plan below for a sample day on a “short term” lower-carb phase.
Phase 2: Eat 1-2 Prebiotics Per Day After your “short-term” reset, and once your full SIBO treatment protocol (i.e. supplement https://amzn.to/2xLJkmO or medication digestive support) is underway, it’s crucial to also feed healthy gut bacteria—to make sure the good guys stick around while you kill off the overgrown “bad guys” Enter: prebiotics—fibers found in certain carbohydrates that “feed” beneficial gut bacteria.Prebiotic foods include:Green-tipped bananas and plantains Cooked & cooled sweet potatoes/potatoes Cooked & cooled long-grain white rice, parboiled Asparagus Seaweed Cabbage (sauerkraut) Dandelion Greens Artichoke Leeks Jicama Onions & Garlic Chia/Flaxseeds Coconut/Coconut Flour Yucca/Cassava Berries Raw Manuka Honey https://amzn.to/2ztx2Se Endive Apple Cider Vinegar Soluble Fibers (cooked carrots, butternut squash, acorn squash, delicata squash, beets) Supplements (like Sunfiber https://amzn.to/2QYXzO0 or Glucomannan https://amzn.to/2IeIfso )Aim to incorporate 1-2 prebiotic based foods into your diet, as tolerated after your short-term low carb reset.
Inflammatory Considerations Beyond just FODMAP and carbohydrate foods, consideration of other “gut inflammatory” foods that may contribute to your personal symptoms may be warranted—particularly these suspects:
Eggs
Dairy (cheese, yogurt, milk, etc.)
Nuts
Peanuts
Soy
Corn
Beans/Peas
Shellfish
Instant Coffee
Cocoa/Chocolate
Nightshades (spices like chili and paprika, bellpepper, tomato sauce, tomatoes, eggplant)
If any of these are regular additions in your diet and your symptoms or SIBO is still present—particularly at the end of your SIBO treatment protocol, a short term 30-day AIP (autoimmune protocol) may help further support gut healing. This is especially true for individuals with “leaky gut.” In other words: There is more to SIBO eating than just “low FODMAP” foods, and broccoli may not be as big of a culprit as you’ve been made to believe.
Don’t Forget the Digestive Support!Once you’ve established a real-food diet, with moderate carbohydrate introduction (prebiotic), and potentially the short-term elimination of any inflammatory foods you may suspect (like almonds, yogurt or hummus), adding in some “gut loving” support is the extra 1-2 punch to take your SIBO treatment to the next level. If you’re working with a skilled practitioner (https://drlauryn.com/work-with-me), that individual should be able to help create and guide you through a custom SIBO protocol—established specifically for you—with pharmaceutical-grade, high-quality formulas that can support not only gut health, but the elimination of overgrown gut bacteria. Here are a few top general recommendations:SIBO Baseline Antimicrobial Support: Dysbiocide https://amzn.to/2IfMSCF  + FC Cidal https://amzn.to/2ztIJIl from Biotics Lauracidin https://amzn.to/2xQTAu9 Biofilm Disruptor: Interfase Plus https://amzn.to/2IgezLA Soil-Based Probiotic https://amzn.to/2IgBNRJ Prebiotic (Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum) https://amzn.to/2IfMZ13
Bloating Atrantil https://amzn.to/2DDs1ua
IBS Iberogast https://amzn.to/2IkbJ8w
Constipation IB Guard https://amzn.to/2zuhfCq
General Digestive Support Digest Enzymes https://amzn.to/2xQLnGi HCL (Hydrochloric Acid) (Aids in stomach acid production): https://amzn.to/2OaHw0P
Liver/Gallbladder Support (for digesting healthy fats) Beta TCP by Biotics https://amzn.to/2IeR7hI Beta Plus (if no gallbladder)  https://amzn.to/2QYZ0vS
Immune Support Tumero Active (Liposomal Curcumin) https://www.apexenergetics.com/turmero-active Liposomal Glutathione https://www.apexenergetics.com/trizomal-glutathione
Nutrient Support B-Complex https://amzn.to/2xRm8n9 Basic Nutrients (Thorne) https://amzn.to/2DvllOK Cod Liver Oil https://amzn.to/2Dx2ovc
ReintroductionFollow your practitioner’s instructions as to how long to be on your personal SIBO protocol. Treatment length will depend on the severity of your SIBO, typically ranging 30-90 days. During your SIBO protocol, it is imperative you stick as closely to real food as possible—particularly limiting the Western diet influences of wheat, conventional dairy, sugar/sweeteners, industrial seed oils, corn and soy. However, as noted earlier, sticking to a strict low carb or low FODMAP diet is not advised for the longevity of your SIBO diet plan—given your symptoms are not severe when you do eat a little bit of prebiotic fiber or grass-fed, fermented yogurt.Once more: There is NO one-size-fits-all approach to the ideal SIBO diet, but as your treatment plan ensues during Phase 2, the “least restrictive as possible” approach tends to work best for people’s sanity and relationship with the healing process. To “reintroduce” foods that you may have eliminated during your Phase 1 or “Anti-inflammatory” food considerations, reintroduce foods 1 food at a time in this fashion:
Day 1 Re-introduction: Eat a small portion of the food alone (2-3 bites). Day 2 Re-introduction: Eat a little bit more of a portion/a serving of the food, alone. Day 3 Re-introduction: Add the food in alongside a meal or appropriate pairing foods.
If symptoms are noted during reintroduction, it may mean your body is not ready yet for it, or it is simply an inflammatory food for you.

A gadget revolution!
We have had a  “Gadget Revolution” amongst our team (plus some of our friends) and have been raving about their latest tech or the latest must have item for the home. These gadgets have been well and truly put through their paces over the past few weeks and we thought we’d share our thoughts with you:
The Thermomix
We’ve been aware of this so called “super” gadget from some chats on Facebook so knew it was something a bit special. If you haven’t heard of them before, the Thermomix is a catch all kitchen gadget and really does mean you can ditch pretty much every other gadget you own! Yes, really, because it is a food-processor, it weighs, cooks, chops, crushes, emulsifies, whips, mixes, steams, blends, kneads, grinds simmers, grates and mills. Despite its extensive repertoire for the kitchen, it is actually quite neat and will sit comfortably on any counter top without demanding too much space. Why would I want one? Well, this is what one new local owner Nicola has to say: “Before I bought the Thermomix I said to my husband that nobody NEEDS a Thermomix but it is an amazing luxury to have. Now that I have had a Thermomix for a month I think every kitchen needs one!! It is amazing. It makes it so easy to cook meals from scratch which not only saves money but lets me now exactly what is going into them. I am also saving on my shopping bills because I am no longer buying more expensive packaged food. I love, love love it!” Sarah Sproston, our Marketing Manager has recently experienced a demonstration (the cheese scones & mango sorbet were absolutely delicious!) and is completely sold on the concept!
Coffee machine
Our very own Nicola Jordan has a new coffee machine and we think it sounds pretty special, in fact we’ve now been over for coffee and are completely converted! “We were spoilt in Italy this year, the villa we stayed in with friends had a bean to cup coffee machine.  When we were showed how to use the machine, I must admit, I didn’t think that much of that fact it was ‘bean to cup’ as a lifelong lover and advocate of Nespresso, this looked a bit more effort and I wasn’t sure that it would be any better.  How wrong could I have been! Everyone loved the machine – and we could prepare the milk just how we liked – flat whites, Cappuccinos, latte’s (only before 12 as we were in Italy!) then fantastic double espresso.  Coming home to our Nespresso (which was on last legs….) wasn’t great! With a husband who lives on double espresso with two sugars, this was a huge problem! So I went about researching bean to cup coffee machines with a view to getting him one as his Christmas present. After all my research I settled on the Delonghi Bean to Cup Coffee Machine. It’s fantastic – and brings back the wonderful memories of our Italian holiday every day (with the added bonus the children can have hot frothy milk on demand for their favourite hot chocolates with marshmallows!)”
TV
Our Area Sales Manager Zac recently treated himself to a new 4K TV as he loves watching programmes like Planet Earth in full HD – can you imagine how on the edge of the seat you’d be watching the snakes and iguana episode on a screen like this?! He admits it was a bit hair-raising!
SkyQ
Cliff has recently indulged in a SkyQ system and feels like he has entered the modern age of watching TV! When combined with Fibre broadband TV is now essentially fully on demand. Even though the box is capable of recording up to 6 things at once, he says that “in reality you never need to record anything as it is always ready to download and view immediately”. He loves that he can seamlessly move what he’s watching to another TV, mobile or tablet and pick up exactly where you left off. “Streaming though high speed fibre broadband is a totally different experience to normal broadband. Everything is just there, and never any of the dreaded buffering!”
Amazon Dot
One of our photographers, Ush had a funny story to tell about his “kind” gift from his parents:
“I received this gift for a couple of reasons. Firstly, to annoy me and secondly, to prove how useful they could be. My parents have owned the original Amazon Echo unit for a fair while now after using one in the US. When I visited them some time last summer they took great pride in showing it off to me. I wasn’t impressed. Listening to someone use an Echo is a confusing and somewhat uncomfortable experience. Hearing my mother call out “Alexa?” and then pause, as if waiting for a response from another human, made me realise that perhaps my parents weren’t quite so used to using the Echo either. I was shown a few menial tasks that the Echo can accomplish. They showed me that she could read the weather out for me, or search for information online for me. I use my phone for something similar already. A machine which offers me a feature I already carry around in my pocket didn’t impress me!
Fast forward to Christmas day then, when they chose to lumber me with my own miniature version of their device. The unobtrusive Echo Dot. Their smug faces as they watched me open it and have to feign gratitude was something I’m used to with them. I’m not one to turn my nose up at a gift, and a fairly expensive one in this case. So I’ve taken to using it, moreover, my girlfriend Claire has taken to using it daily. Once I’d shown her the ropes so to speak, she was off, including her new friend Alexa in her morning routine. Claire no longer has to pause from applying her mascara in the morning to look at the news or weather. Alexa can give her the specifics she needs, whenever she needs them. Train information, traffic information and then when we’ve got what we need she can play our favourite radio stations for us. All in all, my parents have converted me, as much as it pains me to say it!”

Over the past three decades, reports of new – and in some cases extraordinary – new healing techniques have been widely publicized. This has had a very interesting effect on many people and on how they choose to take their medicine.
In the United States alone, there have been countless thousands of studies and research papers written on “alternative medicine”, health, and healing. Topics that have been extensively covered included green juicing, acupuncture, Ayurvedic medicine, energy healing, vitamin and herbal supplements, meditation, yoga, relaxation, visualization, and deep breathing exercises.
The Alternative Cancer Cure Menu:
Step 1: Choose Survival
Decide to survive. Decide to live a long time and to live a healthful life
Step 2: Relaxation Is Essential
Start with a deep breathing relaxation — “In Our Most Relaxed State Our Healing Occurs”. Deep breathing and meditation are the best ways to achieve total relaxation.
Step 3: Do a Deep Cleanse
Begin treatment for cancer with an interior cleanse, which includes the use of cleaning herbs, green juicing, bran products, and supplements. Complete cleansing can occur within 30–60 days.
Some cleansing herbs are: Mugwort, Willow Bark, Rosemary, Sorrel, Black Walnut, Dandelion, and Wormwood. Drink tea made from them, bathe in them, and use them in enemas and in sweating.
Cleansing is important to both rid the body of toxins and also to make it ready to allow healing to occur.
Include coffee enemas! Coffee enemas help to rid the body of toxins and speed the production and elimination of bile from the liver which is essential to healing. Coffee enemas should be done no less than once per day during treatment and than four times per year following.
Step 4: Move On To Treatment
Change your diet to organic fruit and vegetables, brown rice, nuts, fish, and grains. Stop all sugars of any kind during the time of treatment. Also stop all caffeine, meats, milk, cheese, eggs, wheat and alcohol. This helps in creating an amenable environment in the body to assist in recovery from illness and dis-ease.
Use wheatgrass juice freely — Drink 4 to 8 ounces daily. Wheatgrass is all alkaline and full of chlorophyll and essential vitamins. The effectiveness of wheatgrass juicing and chlorophyll as well as the desirable state of alkalinity has been discussed in hundreds of volumes of research papers and books.
Add Colloidal Silver to your diet. Countless studies have been done over the past twenty years on Colloidal Sliver, and the reports are nothing short of outstanding for the treatment for many ailments including cancer.
Add the supplement Immune Assist to your diet. Immune Assist can only be found on the internet, sold my Aloha Products. My dear friends, I have seen this supplement work on hundreds of cases of every major complaint a body can have.
Add to your daily supplement intake potassium plus all essential minerals
Potassium is an essential mineral found in most foods. Along with sodium and calcium, potassium helps regulate major body functions, including normal heart rhythm, blood pressure, water balance in the body, digestion, nerve impulses, muscle contractions, and pH balance (the balance of acidity and alkalinity in the body). The body cannot make potassium on its own and must get it from foods. Potassium is found in foods such as apricots, potatoes, bananas, oranges, pineapples, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, and lean meat. Most salt substitutes also contain large amounts of potassium. Potassium supplements may be prescribed by doctors for patients with imbalances in blood chemicals.
Also add oil–specifically flax seed oil–organic Getting a good balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the diet is important. These essential fats are both examples of polyunsaturated fatty acids, or PUFAs. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation, while most omega-6 fatty acids tend to contribute to inflammation. A healthy diet should consist of roughly 2 – 4 times fewer omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. The typical American diet, however, tends to contain 14 – 25 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. Many researchers believe this is a significant factor in the rising rate of inflammatory disorders in the United States. Flaxseed — but not flaxseed oil — also contains a group of chemicals called lignans that may play a role in the prevention of cancer.
Step 6: Use special herbs in the treatment of cancers
Some examples are: * Yellow Dock * Red Clover * Chaparral * Pau D, Arco * Slippery Elm, * Burdock Root * Echinacea & Goldenseal
Use these herbs in tea, bathe in them, take enemas with them, and do sweating, using them in the sauna or lodge. Herbs are nature’s gift and should never be taken lightly or discounted in their effectiveness in treating all body ailments, from the common cold to heart dis-ease and cancer.
Please note: there is a natural supplement one can purchase from just about any health food store called Wellness Formula, it’s made by Source Naturals and has all the herbs for natural immune building–which is important in treating all body challenges and ailments. Helps to fight off colds and flu as well, use just before cold and flu season.
Add the herb Oil of Oregano to your diet. Mix it with your favorite juice; this is just one more example of a magic bullet used for every common complaint and dis-ease with miraculous results. Be sure the label says Oregonal P73. Oregonal P73 is the original, certified wild, handpicked Mediterranean oregano product line. P73 always indicates that it is powerful and effective. P73 is your guarantee of purity and power. Always look for P73 – it is proof of quality for oil of oregano. The ancient Greeks were one of the first people to recognize oregano oil for its health benefits and medicinal qualities. It is known to be a potent antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic oil that can reduce pain and inflammation and effectively fight off infections.
Some of the specific benefits of Oil of Oregano are: * Destroying organisms that contribute to skin infections and digestive problems. * Strengthening the immune system. * Increasing joint and muscle flexibility. * Improving respiratory health.
Step 7: Add Daily Supplements
Increase vitamin intake with all natural (food) organic supplements and minerals. This helps to build the immune system and give vital strength in combating unwanted entities.
Step 8: Include Additional Techniques to Boost Healing
Increase your level of activity. Walk daily, even if for only a few blocks. Exercise is always important, whether you are sick or well.
Have massage work done regularly. Massage aids in relaxation and thus in healing.
Try cognitive therapy. Get to the source–it works!
Breathe, relax, meditate, and affirm – all is well and so it is.
Get acupuncture regularly, get energy work done, and see yourself as whole, well, and healed.
Pivot the energy to succumb, draw back your personal power and Choose to live! We are, in fact, responsible for our own healing. Energy work is a relatively new science to many people, and will prove one day to be a miraculous healer in its self.
Laugh as much as possible. See yourself as already healed and well.
Aren’t we just talking about “faith healing?” Maybe it is. But maybe not – maybe it goes much deeper than that. A great writer named Napoleon Hill once wrote, “What the mind conceives and believes it can achieve”. This is true to a much larger degree than many people believe, but it is not simply a matter of faith. It’s a matter of physics. Stay with me now, please. Our homosapien minds and our physical bodies are essentially made of matter, energy, space, and time…and the controlling factor, the factor that dictates our overall well-being, is energy. Why is that? Because energy runs the whole machine. Without it, the other three would not exist. That’s just good old-fashioned high school science…so what’s the news? It’s this: correctly applied techniques for manipulating or controlling energy can allow bodies to be healed, to be made whole, and to live far longer than anyone heretofore thought possible. In fact, strictly through controlling energy flows, we can live a very long time–dis-ease free. It’s not all just about “faith”, but one might do well to put their faith in taking responsibility for their own healing with the use of the menu above and having energy work done as well. Furthermore there might be much credence to the notion that cancer is a separate but very real living force that has chosen a body to live within. Furthermore, energy work just might be one new way to deal with this life (energy) force.
And now this–new potentially miraculous product Covalent Silver,
IMPORTANT Note: following treatment with any natural or manmade products it is vitally important to add back to the body vital bacteria lost in various treatments. This writer/healer believes one of the best methods for this is to use Acidophilus bacteria and the best product on the market today is Bio K. easily found in most health food stores throughout the country.
Natural healing is now available worldwide and cures for all that ails one is also available. Finally, well worth the time to look into is new evidence of Hemp Oil being the new magic bullet. I have experimented with it and found that it works in curing cancer, heart trouble, diabetes and increases T cell counts. While the use of this product remains illegal in many states, this writer/healer believes the risk is worthwhile. Many large pharmaceutical companies that still exist today sold hemp based medicines in the 1800’s and early 1900’s. They knew then what I have recently found out. Hemp oil if produced properly is a cure-all that the pharmaceutical industry can’t patent.
