lmfao it turns out Firmament used AI tools to modulate human voiceovers and muss up some textures and now kickstarter backers are malding and asking for their money back. and news outlets are treating those requests like they aren't ridiculous
#kickstarter backers wanting their money back for entirely baseless reasons is always funny but this is up there#the only salient complaint listed is that the human VA for the narrator isn't credited by name#and the studio's rebuttal is that the VA chose to not be credited by name + had full control over the AI modulation of their voice#and that this same VA had also gone without being credited in previous games at their own request#articles also seem to be implying that the lore of the game is “shallow” compared to Myst because of AI involvement#as opposed to the part where Myst is 3-4 games being dimly remembered through nostalgia goggles whereas Firmament is a standalone game#they could be lying about the VA thing i guess but that's such a bizarre and easily falsifiable claim to make

Listening to the BBC radio adaptation of Pratchett’s Night Watch (which is great, incidentally, and I will link to below) and fully realising that not only is Vimes an influence on Endeavour’s Fred Thursday (that goes without saying and has been confirmed by Russell Lewis as well as being just obvious once you know both characters pretty well :) ), but a couple of Igor’s lines (ones definitely lifted from the book) are suspiciously close to the sorts of things Max says. I mean “I find that when I’ve got someone on the slab and had, you know, a rummage around...”... (We are talking about the young Igor working for the Watch, after all, and he’s pretty much a pathologist...) Russell Lewis, you are a beautiful Pratchett-obsessed weirdo. ;-)

(Night Watch is fantastic. It also comes with some content warnings especially for things concerning childbirth and political oppression. Also also it itself is partly an AU of Les Miserables which means that Thursday is based on a (heroic but very cynical) character who is both Javert and Valjean at different points in this story which is PERFECT because of course Roger Allam has played both, one in the musical and the other in the radio adaptation :D ).

apart from mlevens trying to claim the van scene as el’s genuine feelings for mike, one thing that also gets on my nerves is the way they make it seem like all of mleven’s relationship issues in s4 were resolved because mike and el had stellar “communication”....as if the second love interest didn’t do 90% of the work for them 😭 PUT SOME RESPECT ON WILL’S NAME!
#and the “communication” in question is the monologue which wasnt even a MUTUAL conversation? be serious 😭#when will they admit mleven wouldve keeled over in an instant without will in the picture#lets list out all the construction work he did for them shall we#he told el to stop lying to mike#mike would have been clueless about everything el was going through in lenora had will not told him the full truth#professed el’s “undying love and need” for mike in her stead#pushed mike to say something to el while she was in the brink of dying bc otherwise he would have just stood there#played the role of mike’s partner and gave him comfort and reassurance the entire season#gave el credit for the painting in hopes it’ll save their failing relationship#basically most of the pivotal mleven moments heavily involved will in some way#and its impossible to just remove him from the equation completely#mlevens’ first mistake was downplaying just how important will’s role is to the current state of their relationship#and trying to pretend will’s little pep talk for mike before the monologue didnt happen#plus theyre convinced mleven is going to come out of the painting reveal unscathed...well. they better not say we didnt warn them!#byler

realised that the shitty action movie wip is like really transparently about covid not sure what to do with that but aware of it nonetheless
#makes up an entire fake pandemic so i can make my set in the future space travel story affected by it somehow#can't wait to make this like a full decade after the fact and go yeah covid fucked everyone up so i made a movie about it 💞 and everyone#goes it's 2030 and i go well there's other themes in there too but it all ties back to covid 💞#no but On A Serious Note: i can't really imagine making art without it in some way being influenced by covid i spent like. my formative tee#years in lockdown like of course that is going to do something to my art. hell i wouldn't be ON this path if not for covid ultimately#it also unfortunately ties back to tog which is also a heavy influence on this movie. but my letterboxd influences list is already unhinged#so it's not THAT weird. i think you'll be able to tell tho#anyway my favourite part about making a movie in my head is currently picking end credit songs / soundtrack

final bottoms review: it was funny, not as funny as I thought from the hype it got. I didn't realize it would be a comedy where reality bends for the purpose of comedy, and i think if I went in expecting absurdism instead of expecting a story I would have liked it better.

yayy today was so productive

hi-fi rush is only tango gameworks’ third game after evil within and ghostwire and they’re already exhibiting SO much range?? and the animation is incredible??? I need to familiarize myself with some of the names in the credits
#I looked up the full game credits already but the site only lists game animation credits. so it's reminder to look up individual names later#to see if they worked on films etc before#because I usually dont see this level of cartoony expressiveness in games#kramblings
