the person who replied in the comments is totally right! it depends on the conventions of the country/culture you are but as he specifically asked to be called 'Zhou Guanyu', it's better to use this than put it in a western way, this is the reason why it's in this order everywhere (and f1 struggled with it at first, putting his name in the wrong order but they fixed it since😅)

some people were initially confused because he used "Guanyu Zhou" for his other seasons in single-seaters and changed it right before his first season:

they were also right about Yuki, Japanese names start with the surname too so it sometimes creates confusion with celebrities' names in the press (for example, it's written Hiroshi Fujiwara on his account name (in his bio) but his instagram handle is fujiwarahiroshi, the way it would be written in Japanese, he just adapted it so westerners would find him I guess and sometimes journalists are confused 😅 same thing with actors [he had designed Guanyu's helmet for the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix].

Yuki adapted his name in English too but in Japanese his surname comes first [*this is from his website because there is only english on his instagram account]

he also said that he preferred to be called 'Zhou', so during professional interviews/posts on social media, they refer to him as 'Zhou' when they use the other drivers' first name usually (for grill the grid for example) but fans usually use the first name of their favourite drivers (Lewis, Charles, Lando, Max, ... instead of Hamilton, Leclerc, Norris or Verstappen) in a affectionate way so I don't think in a 'fan space' it's a problem to use 'Guanyu' instead of 'Zhou' 😊

hi! i have a genuine question real quick

when his name is said in all official f1 spaces (official f1 sites, team accounts, sky sports, etc.), he’s called “zhou guanyu”

however, i’ve seen some things floating around saying that his name is actually “guanyu zhou”

first, which iteration of his name is correct? second, if it’s “guanyu zhou,” why do all the official f1 spaces call him by his surname as if it’s his first name? (i say ‘surname’ but i realize there may be more names after it like carlos or charles have, but i hope you know what i mean)

and if what i was reading about his name was just wildly incorrect rumors, then disregard! f1 rumors can get kinda wild sometimes, as we all know 😅
