The First Edit

so i've spent untold hours trying to learn GIMP to edit those scans, and now i've almost built up the confidence i need to post them. so here's my least-favorite result of what i've done so far. NOTE: i said this was my least favorite RESULT. i am kind of proud of how far i got with it, but i am really not very good at the editing thing.

The Picture

this is an abandoned barn near an undisclosed highway. i took it on an olympus om-1 with an olympus f. zuiko 1.8 50mm lens. the film was fujicolor 100 super hg-ii, expired probably 20something-30 years ago. this frame came out worse than a lot of the other frames. i think my editing effort was valiant, but i've only been doing this for a couple days. the sky is so damn blue and i couldn't get the weird orange highlights around the leaves out once they were there. anyway, i've got two 4x5 sheets eagerly awaiting development, so i'll try to get off the computer and into the darkroom now.

The Second Edit

so my computer is dead right now so i'm posting the one of the edita i have saved in my phone. in personal photography news, i have not developed those 4x5 sheets from like a week ago. i did a roll of 120 the other day and it didn't come out great + i smelled like fixer for days after that. it kind of took me out of the developing mood. i'm currently on the prowl for an old kodak folder in decent condition - preferably one that takes 120. also i want to put together a little zine-type thing of some of my 4x5 stuff, but i don't know where a bunch of negatives went. anyway, since i'm just throwing out vaguely connected thoughts, i just finished the combray chapter of swann's way. goddamn is that a good book. here's the picture

The Picture

this is a picture i took on an early morning ferry ride. i believe i took it with the same setup as the last picture (om-1 with 50mm; fujicolor super hg-ii 100). i think this is one of my better edits, though i do think the unedited version can stand on its own two legs as well. it's one ofy favorite pictures i've ever taken, if only for personal nostalgic connection.

i also have a roll of ektachrome to post here. pictures are less spectacular (as scanned slide film tends to be), but it will probably grace this blog pretty soon. the pictures all have a weird blue cast

EDIT: for some reason the images posted as two small side-by-side images instead of large one-on-top-of-the-other images. i'll post better versions later
