In 1978, seventeen year old punk rockers Peter Bywaters and Del Strangefish decided to form a punk band and PETER  AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES are born. After a couple of  rehearsals they made their first recording Elvis Is Dead, which appeared on the Vaultage ‘78 compilation of Brighton new wave bands. Radio 1 DJ John Peel loved the song instantly and offered the band a live session. The success was breathtaking and PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES became one of the hottest unsigned bands in the UK overnight.    Their first single ‘Banned From The Pubs’ followed fast, and fans and press freaked out in equal measure. From that moment everything went crazy; sold out concert halls in England and Europe and their big success in the media pushed their debut album Pissed And Proud to #1 in the U.K. independent charts. Directly after that, their 2nd album The Mating  Sounds Of South American Frogs was released in 1983 – a must-have for every record collection – and sold more than 100,000 copies, resulting in invitations to perform from far and wide. THE TEST TUBES BABIES have continued to play shows all over the world and cemented their status as one of the most brilliant and funniest live bands in punk rock culture. A few bass players and drummers have served their time in the band, but the songwriters Peter and Del have always remained the foundation and together they wrote and recorded a long list of classic albums like Soberphobia (1986), and the brilliant Supermodels (1995).   

In 2018 PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES signed with Arising Empire Records recruiting Nick Abnett and Sam Fuller on bass and drums respectively resulting in their now critically-acclaimed album »That Shallot« which went on to receive 4 and 5 Star reviews worldwide.     Fast forward to the present day…. Against all odds the band have pulled  the rabbit out of the hat and come up trumps again with their best record to  date the 14-track »FUCTIFANO«  (a phrase you may hear from a Scotsman whilst asking for directions ‘F***ed If I Know’). The first single is the high-energy track ‘Facebook Loser’ -  a sad tale of the insane world of a Facebook addict (we all know one). And finally, the pipe-smoker in the winter wonderland is from @crimson-creature, who also wrote an amazing poem on the inside of the card. I don’t know if you have it posted anywhere but if you don’t you should share it! 

The third image is a package from @winds-wanderer; I LOVE the Lunch Money pouch and the postcards, and I’m pretty sure you sent the origami (but if not do let me know -- it got separated from its family in my bag :D). I’m planning to hang up the postcards at work! 

And lastly, thank you for your patience, the wonderful tartan bird card and “Fuctifano” coaster (OH MY GOD) are from Rua M; I plan to feature the coasters at my next get-together. Meanwhile, the awesome chocolates and postcard and neat brochure from Hawaii, the blessed candy and the new Ofuda, are from @janedrewfinally. I have to say I’m especially grateful for the Ofuda, since the cats managed to PULL DOWN AND EAT my previous one. I’m hanging this one higher on the wall. :D

SamCait Shits and Giggles Tarot Card Fun (from a neophyte).

I have been a part of the OL Jamie/Claire and Sam/Cait shipper fandom since late 2015. I’ve followed this whole Sam/Cait “are they/aren’t they” debacle up to their current crystal clear status of: 

1. Cait maybe married and maybe married to Tony or maybe secretly married to Sam but she won’t tell us because she hates fans and we don’t deserve to know or because she’s “private” and he’s “shy,” but she likes to wear a variety of wedding-type bands along with her engagement ring that just got larger and was maybe from Tony even though she’s never actually called him “my fiancé Tony” or even “my partner Tony” or “Tony, to whom I’m engaged,” or posted any pictures with him on any social media or shown an ounce of interest in him as a human being while in public with him, and 2. Sam maybe in an unrequited love “friendzone” with Cait, maybe broken up with Cait, maybe with Cait, maybe secretly married to Cait, maybe gay, maybe bi, maybe polyamorous, maybe just a player who can’t sustain a relationship with any of his “love interests.”

So what’s the truth? Well … fuctifano.

Anyway, today I was doing some cleaning and came across a “Secrets of Tarot” card kit, complete with tutorial and card references, that I bought in spring 2018. I must confess that I’m a bit of a cynic when it comes to psychic and supernatural forces. I only used the cards once after purchasing them. So today, I found the results I had written down from this one-time reading, and as luck would have it, I was able to locate the picture I took of the reading (at the bottom of this post). 

What was the topic of my reading, you ask? Of course you know the answer: “Are Sam and Cait together?”

So, for what it’s worth, here’s the background:

The date I did the reading was May 7, 2018. So I looked through my Tumblr Blog Mass Post Editor to see exactly what was occurring in SamCait world at that time. It was, as always, another crazy-rollercoaster-of-shipper-emotions period. Shippers had been on the highest of highs at the end of April, after Sam made the infamous “We are together … and we work together” comment in an earlier interview, and on Sam’s birthday April 30, Cait tweeted him nonstop silly posts with even sillier pics. Shipper gold. However, as we all know, shipper gold is followed by Cait smackdown. And we got that in spades on May 7, 2018, when Cait committed shipper blasphemy. On that day, Cait “Liked” a tweet from some asswipe who tweeted about how sweet it was of Tony to give Cait the “lemon hug.” Horrors! The nerve! Shippers all know Sam gave Cait that damn lemon, so how dare that nasty tweeter! And how dare that shipper-hating Cait!

Stricken with the same indignance as all my fellow shippers, on May 7th I decided to pull out this mysterious Tarot card set and ask the immortal shipper question: “Are Sam and Cait together?”

So, for what it’s worth (probably little), here is my reading, followed by a picture of the cards, with datestamp for reference. I don’t know what cards represent what characters, but I thought the reading was very interesting and relatable to the SamCait situation (although I’m sure some will say Tarot cards are just general enough that they can be relatable to any situation). Keep in mind this reading was done on May 7, 2018, since the cards are broken into what had happened in the Past, what is happening in the Present, the Outcome, and the Extension (which gives further clarification).

The first set of cards relates to the Past, or what is just Passing.

Sun: Marriage, happiness, and bright prospects.  

The High Priestess: Highest card in Tarot deck. Very powerful. Good or bad secrets to be revealed.

Wheel of Fortune: Elevation of money. Overseas trip. Completion phases.

The Devil: Jealousy or trouble. Able to break the chains that are binding you or holding you back.

The next set of four cards relates to the Present conditions, or the next Situation to follow:

The Fool: Good friends. Happiness. Needing to take a giant leap forward.

Death: Death of situation or endings. New beginnings.

Temperance: Money restrictions. Testing the waters.

The Chariot: Movement of residence. Journey. Victory over a situation or problem. Balancing the opposite polarities.

The next four cards reveal the Outcome or where the Situation is leading:

The Heirophant: Marriage. Government or Public Company. Body corporate. Official building of Official Situation.

The Moon: Deception or delay. Emotions up or down. May be deceiving yourself or others emotionally.

The Hermit: Loneliness. Unattached. Soul-searching time needed or time alone.

The Magician: Element of surprise. Good or bad.

Then I turned over four more cards for the Extension, which you’re instructed to do if the answers from the reading are not clear:

The Empress: Delays will prove necessary.

The Tower: Catastrophe. Accident. Things happening very quickly or at lightning pace.

The Emperor: Stability or stabilizing influence coming into your life.

The Lovers: Love affairs. Romance building again within marriage. Relationship. Relatives. Loving relationship you could share with a friend.

Fourteen stories about love, revenge, violence, parenthood, health, the black economy, home improvement, social media addiction and of course drinking. There’s a twist in every tale so expect the bleedin’ obvious! What does that all mean?! 'Fuctifano'. To celebrate the release of the new album today, the band have also released new single 'Screwed Down'. Guitarist and songwriter Del Greening explains the story behind the track: “We came up with the idea for ‘Screwed Down’ in Manchester when we got locked in the venue after a show. Realising we were screwed, we proceeded to drink the bar dry and got completely hammered. The night before we had played in North Devon and been hassled outside the show by some D.I.Y. punks saying the entrance fee to the show was too high and we had sold out. We thought “What the F**k is a D.I Y. punk anyway? Are they into home improvements or something?” Song Idea? To remember our drunken ramblings we started ripping down the wallpaper to write the lyrics on.
