Well bookworms, I have just finished Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers! It is a book I have heard so much about and a copy has sat on my Australian bookshelf for ages! I was gifted a copy by @hmhteen this year for my UK bookshelf and I’m so glad I have finally read it! The writing was not as strong as I was expecting however I thoroughly enjoyed the story! Set in medieval Brittany (France), Ismae is trained by the nuns of St. Mortain in the arts of assassination and is then sent out on her missions. She finds herself among the Duchy of Brittany and must fight for her survival and for those she comes to care about. Although she is trained to kill without question, Ismae has a heart and realises that her instructors may not be as infallible as she is lead to believe. Instead, she follows her heart and is rewarded by her patron saint for doing so. . I really enjoyed the historical context, the ruthlessness of the royal court and the duplicitous characters! I’ve always enjoyed historical fiction for those aspects! I hate you for every sob that has torn its way out of my throat at the thought of you. �� I hate you for all the times I have pulled away from a hug.   I hate you for all the times I have jumped when my dad has touched my back and for all the times I have flinched at my mom’s hand on my knee.   I hate you for every sleepless night and every bad dream.   I hate you for every memory of your hands on my back and my shoulder and my stomach and my ass and my breasts and my…..   I hate you for every fucking night you touched me while you thought I was sleeping.   I hate you for every prayer I sobbed out, begging God to make the memories, the pain go away.   I hate you for every morning I wake up and they are still here.   I hate you for every moment I spend wondering if I am the only one you have done this to and every moment I spend in fear of if it happens to someone else and I could have stopped it.   I hate you for every time I have prayed for death because surely that must be easier than living with the memory of your hands on my body.   I hate you for every time I see you and you look at me as if you had not killed a part of me with second your hands were on my body.   But most of all, I hate you for making me hate myself because I did not do anything to stop you. I froze and I let you do that to me for one, two, three, four nights.   I hate you for the tears that are rolling down my face as I type this and I hate you for this emptiness I feel.
