I’m saying this to no hate with minoharu because I like minoharu a lot but I also am in the hobby of playing devils advocate (in the “thinking up counter arguments to your claim is a great way to strengthen your own argument” way, not in the debatebro awfulguy way) so it really rubs me the wrong way when they’re held up as the pinnacle of prsk ho yay/gay subtext ignoring both “I fucking love my idol” culture (i disagree. I think minori is gay as fuck. But yk. Stan culture. Look at straight swifties.) and the fact that anhane is right there. Anhane had “I’m going on a date” “with kohane?” & now they have the misheard “the moon is so beautiful” confession joke in mysekai. Anhane is atp as close to canon as you can get from this game genre.

Tbh I think the irritation mostly stems from people just picking “I love u haruka!!!” and going ok there’s a random yuri pair I can point to ignoring haruka’s (reciprocated) side of the dynamic and the other more prominent yurisms in the game. I don’t know. I think the queer coding threads that ignore anhane are getting to me. We aren’t even touching on shizuai and the category nine lesbian event that happens every time they talk to each other.

It feels like a lot of the fanbase treats minoharu as a token lesbian ship instead of an actual dynamic to the point where with things like shizuai/anhane/kanamafu etc I get to see really cute moments and analysis & then with minoharu I don’t get to see that. And I want to see that. I want to see people talking about haruka’s side of the dynamic and the moments they have that aren’t as influenced by minori loving haruka as an idol but more influenced by her loving haruka as someone she’s grown close to and actually gotten to know.

I’m a wxs oshi first and foremost but I really love hearing about what other unit oshis have to say about their faves (dynamics or just solo character talking) and I feel like any talk about haruka or minori gets bogged down by people who (from my perspective) don’t even seem to have read many mmj events… maybe I just need to find more mmjoshis….

The idea of a girl being inspired by an idol to keep chasing her dream after multiple failures and then in a twist of wattpad y/n one direction fic style fate that idol shows up at her school is already peak but adding in minori turning the inspiration and motivation haruka gave her into something that reignited haruka’s love for being an idol and in turn inspired haruka is really sweet. I wanna see more of “look at how haruka is inspired by minori and look at how seriously minori takes being by haruka’s side” and less “haha minori is in awe of haruka this is definitive queer coding.” Does that make sense? I don’t think it does. Whatever. I lost the plot of this post.

first impression: ok this is the one with the gay thing with blue girl right? she's cute. nice design

impression now: this fucking hamster has altered my life good god. they put so many social anxieties into her. how she is the only one in the cast who does not have any specific goal or wish at the beginning of the game. how she believes she can only have it now because of other people. but the fact she picked up that resolve and wanted to continue singing to begin with shows that this is something she DOES want. her desire to support An, who is why she can have that dream in the first place. the frustration she's beginning to let herself feel. and also she's just so. weird. just because. but in a tamer way to some of the other cast so it doesn't come out unless you know her. she's got a pet snake and has an interest in pxl to the point she knows the spots for all of the hidden phennies (and found a new one on what is basically a date) and she does photography but didn't consider it a proper passion until meeting vbs. have I mentioned how she doesn't view herself as someone capable of feeling passion for something unless she gets it from someone else? hey colopal are you going to do anything with that or do I have to. uhhh anyway yeah Kohane Azusawa I like Kohane Azusawa. A Lot.

favourite moment: ough there's so many good ones. first of all Kick It Up A Notch is a beautiful event I have no notes and her solo is beautiful. her fes story. so much good stuff there. "it's frustrating" is a line that haunts me and I used it as fuel for what is just the most self indulgent thing I could have possibly ever written. OVER RAD SQUAD. THAT SCENE WHERE SHE'S WALKING INTO WEEKEND GARAGE WHILE CONTEMPLATING EVERYTHING AND AN/AKITO/TOYA ARE IN THERE SINGING. yeah it's probably that scene actually. that's my fav.

idea for a story: (stares at Kohane timeloop au) uhhhh I really would like to do a continuation to the crossover fic with my initial idea for it in mind (putting the boy in street sekai to see if that maybe fixes him) (it won't but the moment of spiderman pointing at spiderman between him and kohane will be hilarious) but other than that. I do want to do something with the "Kohane has a classmate that's terrified of her because everything she does is out of context to her" idea. or aforementioned timeloop au. make her suffer <3

unpopular opinion: outside of "stop making her the background lesbian", An Shiraishi being unit leader makes no sense from a story standpoint. while it is odd that VBS is the only unit to do a pov switch after the opening chapter we the audience just would not get as good of a story from An's pov because we do not know the world of Vivid Street like she does. Kohane's character is designed in a way where we learn things as she does in the main story, and also unit leaders mean nothing besides marketing it's really not that big of a deal. also some people don't get AnHane at all lmao

favourite relationship: AnHane my love my life my everything in this wah wah world. they orbit each other and want to be the best they can for the other but they're messy because they've never had anything like what they had with each other before. honeymoon couple of singing duos. they make me insane. Kohane's relationships to all of VBS (and the NPCs) make me sick but An specifically... ough...

favourite headcanon: Kohane does become a photographer in the future. VBS do all just set up another cafe outside of Vivid Street (Kotaro keeps Weekend Garage... I think he deserves it) but she does photography on the side. also fuck colopal she still wears her glasses frequently just not when performing

You know what, as a wlw im extremely tired of this fandom.

There are:

4 boys

15 girls

1 Mizuki

And the fandom manages to get the 4 boys twice as popular as the most popular wlw ship.

Up until a few months ago there were more wlw fics even if ruikasa and akitouya were always top 3 but then the genshin fujoshis entered this fandom but this isn't about that now.

I understand ruikasa and akitouya are great ships, but can't people spare the time to give wlw some love too or are people gonna continue being straight up lesbiphobic and misogynist?

MinoHaru and Anhane are THE MOST EXPLICIT SAID ships in the full game. And anhane still gets more attention because they're from vbs, a group with two boys. MinoHaru has so few fanfics actually dedicated to them, most of them are chatfics or background couples.

Its full on misogynist when:

The fandom treats leo/need and more more jump too, they're the only full female group (im not counting niigo because of Mizuki) and said as "boring" and the girls without personality, Saki saves actually because she is Tsukasa's sister.

Both of those groups has amazing stories that might not be for you, but it does not gives anyone the right to say its boring when you didn't even pay attention to it.

I've seen people call Kanade, Mafuyu, Ena boring even, but then go and amplify Tsukasa's depression (which is another fucked up thing) because sure, girls cant be as interesting as boys.

Treat Shiho, Ena and Airi as this assholes but turn around and say Akito is the best written character as if those 4 dont have the same thing of acting harsh but genuinely caring.

People put stuff like ruinene and mizurui as past abusive/toxic relationships for the sake of mlm.

People keep up putting Saki on the hospital or dead in favor of Tsukasa angst, which is not only misogynist but also ableist.

People treat Ena as this abusive older sister when really, it's not that at all. (Also used for Akito angst because people love doing this to the siblings apparently)

Its full on transphobic when:

People dont treat Mizuki as nonbinary, or their ships being nblw/nblm or even wlw would be more correct, people treat Mizuki differently. Yall barely treat them as a person, just for your ship. Mizuena and Mizumafu are extremely sexualized as if thats the only good thing for the character.

Its full on lesbiphobic when:

The 4 boys have more content than 15 girls.

A lot of the most popular wlw ship is just as a background for Akitouya. (Seriously dont even tag them when its not important to the story, when i want to see Akitouya i go to the akitouya tag).

In early fandom, people demonized Anhane to say how Akitouya is this great thing.

Someone had to write anhane fics near daily (Kohane420 if you're out there you're a legend) because there were more akian fics than anhane.

It's straight up homophobic when:

The mlm ships has a lot of fetishization and smut.

They change Tsukasa's personality to be an innocent bean who does no wrong and Rui's personality as this sexualized person just to write fanfic.

I wont be mad if you like the boy characters or the mlm ships because that is valid but sometimes you should stop and look at if there's any reason to that or if you're not leaving the girls behind for it.

uhhh long story short trans headcanons are cool especially when they may contradict canon identity. it is never too late to find out about those things and characters only finding themselves after a story is a great thing to look at. anyway rant.

idk I think that trying to say that people headcanoning Akito/Toya/Tsukasa/Rui to be transfem are misogynistic by neglecting the many canonically female characters in game is a fucking stupid claim that reeks of transphobia and transmisogyny in particular. first off tell me why you think someone writing about a character, who in a game presents as male, deciding that a story where they consider identifying differently could be interesting is misogynistic. second off where are all of these people having those headcanons because I know like. 2 people off the top of my head and one of them is me. there are people who hc Shiho/Haruka/Mafuyu/whoever else to be a trans boy which were not brought up once here (I have seen differing opinions on Mafuyu specifically and I am certain there is a claim that these hcs are also bad but the post in question referred to the others). (and I love these hcs as well btw).

fandom misogyny is definitely a thing that should be spoken of, ESPECIALLY in Sekai. but the people making stories or art of these characters actually exploring identifying as another gender to the one they may present as in canon? that is not an issue here. it was never a fucking issue and I'm so glad there was at least one seperate post willing to call out how bullshit it was.

the misogyny within sekai fandom issue has existed for years and many have made great posts about it. it is very much true that of a cast with a majorly female cast, the 4 boys getting the spotlight is an issue. however trans headcanons had never been a part of that discussion because, putting it lightly, they probably never should have been. do you really think the people that will sideline AnHane for AkiToya care about headcanoning either of the latter as girls? no, because the reason this issue exists is because the people writing AkiToya fic about them just kissing again #5000 don't fucking care for the women they are reducing to one note characters for it to work.

it becomes obvious when these things no longer become "I think exploring this characters relationship to gender is very interesting and I would like to draw/write about it" and switch to "I think women can not be interesting so I will only consider liking a character if they are a man". there are literally the claims of "L/N would be more interesting as a boy band" (and the similar ones for MMJ) which is very clearly just saying they would be better characters if they were presented as guys in game and an excuse to not think about the rest of the cast.

there's something I've been thinking for a while now but it relates to something from months ago and it would just be bringing it back up maybe and it's late so I'd feel stupid but rifkrof.
