As happy as I am to have Wynonna back and the gang, I can no longer be a part of the fandom.
Forever grateful for the actors and the story for helping me figure out my sexuality…but the show runner and her band of favorites that dick ride her, make fans with an opinion feel uncomfortable and unsafe, including me.
Getting blocked, simply for live tweeting, and using the hashtag to avoid spoilers, and the piece of shit show runner specifically seeking out my page…that’s my cue to leave and cut out all media.

It’s true that they didn’t hide Kat’s pregnancy very well. At the same time - I actually love the fact they didn’t. I love the fact that she just looked like she put on a lot of weight and no one even made an issue out of it. Think about what would have happened if the creator and showrunner for WEARP wasn’t a woman.
More specifically - wasn’t Emily Andras. How do you think they would have addressed that “problem”? Because it would very much be a problem to them.
I can tell you how immediately: “You can’t do the job.”
Kat is pregnant, not incapacitated. But I guarantee you if it was anyone else that did this special that they would have behaved as if pregnancy was incapacity.
Emily did the opposite and said: “Your character ate too many lemon scones and that is completely fine.”
Because fat characters are fine.
And pregnant actors are fine.
It’s not a problem. It’s not incapacity. It’s human nature. And the fact they didn’t bother to hide it well…
👌
Kat got a fucking job and Nicole got to be a Fat Amy.
And I think that’s fucking awesome! Good on Andras!
AND… I also very much guarantee you that that off-screen WayHaught sex scene wouldn’t have been off-screen if Kat hadn’t been pregnant during the filming. So what’s even more amazing is that Emily sacrificed what would have been “necessary representation” to the fans so Kat wouldn’t have to take off her clothes.
WEARP is a gay IP targeted primarily to gay people. They would have absolutely tried to one-up 4x02. So the only conceivable reason why they didn’t was that. Putting the priority on the safety and comfortability of Kat over “WLW representation” points with the fans is an honourable, respectful and admirable thing to do.
So instead we got a pretty passionate intimacy scene between WayHaught that we were cut away from in exactly the same way as we were with the WynDoc intimacy scene. But I absolutely can guarantee you that were Kat not pregnant when filming the special - it would have been more than that because… in that case… Emily would have prioritised the fandom needs. That most definitely tells me straight away that what was most important to Emily Andras (and Tubi as well) throughout this venture with ‘Vengeance’ was how safe and secure the cast was in coming back to do it.
And I don’t know about you guys but I absolutely think that’s much more worth having than a sex scene. So if there’s any fans that are disappointed about that…
There’s your answer. Take it or leave it.

Little rant about Wynonna Earp: Vengeance.
I am someone who has a deep love and nostalgia for this show, it was a really important part of my coming out and discovering myself journey etc and I can honestly say I was obsessed with Wynonna Earp. With that in mind I did genuinely quite enjoy Vengeance and I’m so happy to see all the characters again so any of my criticisms are with that love in mind. That being said there were quite a few choices that frustrated me that I have to get off my chest.
Lowkey afraid to post this because I know so much of the fandom think Wynonna Earp is immune to any criticism (read: the whole racism debacle).
Also I’m sure a lot of my criticisms could also be levied at the show itself but tbh I haven’t rewatched it since it came out so I’d have to rewatch it and put on my critical brain.
SPOILERS BELOW
1. I think the more the show puts Mercedes through the wringer the less of an impact it has. As awful as it sounds I kinda wish something happening to one of the other characters (eg. Nicole) but not necessarily death, could’ve been the catalyst. (I’m less strongly opinionated on this point I just thought it’s worth mentioning.)
2. I though the fight choreography was pretty shit, I felt absolutely no stakes during the hell hound attacks.
3. This might be a controversial opinion, but I think there WASN’T ENOUGH fan service. Considering this is a reunion almost entirely aimed at fans on a random-ass streaming service, intended to lean in to fans nostalgia. Unless I’ve missed it they only mentioned Dolls once (quite subtly and they mention Bunny Fucking Loblaw more than him) never mentioned Rosita, Robin, Chrissy, Rachel Valdez, Kate etc etc and again I might have missed this but they didn’t even mention Julian??? Glad Jeremy showed up at the end though
These next three are the most egregious in my opinion.
4. WHY TF DID THEY MAKE WYNONNA A COP??? It makes no fucking sense for her character. So much of her character arc is about distancing herself from her father and making her own path then she follows in his footsteps???? If they wanted to give her a job to show she was settling into the Purgatory community and still on the look out for demons she could have I don’t know, been a Park Ranger or a PI or literally anything else. Like I get that she has people she trusts and loves on the force in Nicole and formerly Randy but this still doesn’t make sense to me and feels like more copaganda than the show already has.
5. Wtf does Emily Andras have against Wynonna being happy with her child. At the very least even if it was unsafe for Alice to live with Wynonna they could show her visiting her and forming a relationship (which she so desperately wants). It also feels like a disservice to Doc to not follow that up. I wish the ending had been Wynonna sitting with Alice and telling her about Doc instead of just ‘hey welcome to the force! Congrats!’
6. Considering the show has such limited representations of First Nations peoples (I’m struggling to think of any), the only Native American character being a demon feels dodgy af to me. But that alone could theoretically be talked out of as ‘there are demons of every race’. Ok, then WTF would you have your main character making fun of the Native characters calling her ancestor a coloniser??

Yeah, they upped the ratings for the final season.
Emily Andras was like…
You wanted the characters to say fuck? Here you go.
You wanted a lesbian sex scene? Here you go.
You wanted blood, guts and gore? Here you go.

malex and echo were written in the pilot. throughout the fabric of the show malex are a love story too. I guarantee if malex were a straight couple there would be no questions about it. no one questions echo at all, people just know they are endgame.
I guarantee if malex were a straight couple there would be no questions about it.
No, there wouldn't, but they're a queer couple, and the only certainty we have, is uncertainty.
They are woven into the fabric of the show, absolutely, but
there's still a difference between how straight and queer couples are treated: queer couples are rarely treated as an obvious endgame (Wynonna Earp and Schitt's Creek did it, and Emily Andras and Dan Levy made it clear in every interview that their queer couples were endgame, but these shows really are an exception, we're not usually that lucky and get this kind of reassurance), and even when there's a set-up like Malex (high school sweethearts, mentions of cosmic, and so on), there's no certainty or guarantee (bc it's never been CONFIRMED by TPTB).
With Echo, there's never been a shred of doubt that they are endgame (it was clear from the opening scene of the pilot when they looked at each other and said each others' names), bc that's what every story in every book, show, or movie's been telling us for centuries (and longer). The princess gets her prince in the end. Fairytale. Happy ending guaranteed. The Hallmark Channel and every romantic comedy ever's built on that straight HEA formula.
With queer couples, it's often still something completely different. More often than not, we don't get a happy ending, instead, we're served misery, uncertainty, breakups, and whatnot. If we're even so lucky to get a canon queer couple, that is.
In that regard, we already got super lucky bc we got a queer couple in canon. Like, we didn't have to make this up in fandom spaces bc we saw the potential and chemistry between the characters, we know for a fact that Alex and Michael have a decade-long history, and that they love each other bc we saw it on screen! What a gift!
But whenever a queer couple happens in canon - and it doesn't happen nearly often enough (I won't even get into this thing where a mlm couple is okay-ish, but wlw couples are so rare, they barely exists, let alone any other kind of queer couple), it's pretty much guaranteed that something overly dramatic will happen to them, and it's certainly not guaranteed, that they'll get a HEA. Bury your gays is still a trope that gets (ab)used too often...
As for RNM, with Michael being bisexual, and M/M being the OTP of the OG show, fans have always worried about RNM potentially going back to that pairing. I highly doubt they'll ever touch it again (LOL, can you imagine the backlash?), but casual viewers (who might also be familiar with the OG show and somehow expect M/M to be repeated) wouldn't necessarily be aware of that. "It's a TV show," is what everyone keeps saying - because it's happened time and time again on TV shows, and somehow it's to be expected, that an endgame couple breaks up at least once. Also, straight usually trumps queer.
As fans of a queer couple, we rarely have the luxury of being as certain about the endgame status of our OTP as fans of a straight couple usually can be. And RNM's no exception.
I mean, just look at all the interviews with Nathan and Jeanine ahead of S3. There was so much reassurance that Echo will figure things out, soothing any worries fans might have, making it also pretty clear that Heath is going to be nothing but a mild inconvenience, and certainly not a threat.
All the while we had to go through 1 1/2 seasons of triangle misery (and worse) without knowing for sure whether there'd ever be another chance for Malex. Malex was deemed "too complicated" and "it just hurts" in canon, and regardless of Tyler and Vlamis advocating for Malex, all they could ever express was some nebulous "hope" that they'll find a way back to each other.
Insofar I'm eternally grateful that they ended things with Forrest so quickly and clearly in 3x01 - clarifying with one sentence that they never even were exclusive, and then Forrest left town at the end of 3x01, possibly for good.
This means that going into S3, there are no lingering feelings from a long-term relationship that could potentially threaten Malex, and there's no "ex-boyfriend" hanging around either. Even Maria's already in the process of being paired up with someone else (i.e. eliminated as a potential triangle option once again). We may not have gotten much reassurance in interviews, but the show's set things up in our queer couple's favor.
Still, Echo fans got plenty of reassurance that Echo will figure things out (basically telling everyone it's really just a matter of when, not if they'll get together), while all we've gotten so far is "there's hope", and "they'll become friends". Yay. -_-
They probably don't even realize how unbelievably frustrating that is, how much we fret, and how hard it is to be a fan of a queer couple. All this tired BS of "you'll see" or "you'll have to watch and find out", while the actors of the straight couple are free to tease positive and hopeful things.
I'm still very confident that Malex will happen this season, but man, the lingering fear of "what if not" is still there. It probably won't ever go away, bc we've been fucked over by so many shows over the years...

‘Wynonna Earp: Vengeance’ SDCC panel. 2:54:36
Watch it now before it gets taken down.
Kind of a bummer that they can’t really say anything about the movie but least they’re all so excited to.
Emily told them that they’re allowed to evolve and that she’ll meet them where they’re at and see how it goes. That’s much better than forcing unrealistic expectations and pressuring the actors to conform to what the characters were and are known best for.
I respect Emily Andras as a showrunner so much.
She’s doing it right. If people don’t like it - fuck them. Yes, it’s an actors job to portray people not like them but at the end of the day, they still need to feel safe and that’s what Emily does. Puts their safety first.
Dom was so certain that they’d never act again. The only reason they’re doing so now is because of how much they trust Emily Andras and Co. So enough about Waverly not looking like Waverly anymore. Just drop the complaints please or you will be blocked. I don’t fucking care. Dom’s safety and comfort means more to me than some fictional character’s aesthetic.

A thank you note to the Holy Trinity
Thank you Wynonna for being a hero that we all need. For being a badass with all your inner demons and struggles and you still kicked ass effortlessly every single day.
Thank you Nicole for being authentically yourself, for loving so fiercely and never apologizing for it. For standing to your moral ground and turning out to be the best version of yourself after all that you've been through.
Thank you Waverly for being and angel on earth, for being selfless and positive but also a fucking badass when needed. For getting up that courage and kissing that girl. For accepting yourself completely.
Last but not least, Melanie Scrofano, Kat Barrell and Dominique PC, thank you for giving a life and a voice to those fearless and multilayered women. Thank you for living through them, for growing with them and for giving us an opportunity to witness all of that.
A special mention to Emily Andras and her understanding of representing Queer characters in the media. Thank you.
This show will always have a special place in my heart. I'll cherish it forever.
I wish I could watch it all over again for the first time.
